MY SISTER (LAUREN) SUBSCRIBES AND I PAGED THROUGH (DON'T TELL HER) AND I LIKED IT! I'D LIKE TO GET IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Teeny Peeps
This is a great magazine, vice versa to all those other customer reviews. It's just a fun-filled, style/gossip magazine. Along with styles and what's 'in' for the season and what's 'out'. If you are the type of person who hates gossip, fashion-talk, boy-talk and such, I don't suggest it. But if you do, then heck with it! Grab one and start reading. They have full-color pictures or stars--Star Tracks, SCENE--where celebrities talk, what's happening, most embarrasing moments, quizzes, love-talk, sneek-peeks, what's new and what's old, new movies, awsome books and movies to watch, and advice for girls just like us.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
i subscribed to this magazine thinking it was like its "parent" People , which i love to read.
however, this is just awful. its all about sex, guys, and expensive clothing. i flip through in 5-10 min. and im done. nothing real here at all. they publish bits about "I stole my best friends guy!". its stupid to read and glorifies being mean to others. STUPID.
unless your a preppy, shallow, rich girl, dont even think about this magazine. worst $12 i ever spent.

    Editorial Review

The perky authority on all things girl since 1944, Seventeen magazine still provides advice and encouragement to masses of young misses. Although the primary focus is fashion and famous folk, this teen zine is not mere eye candy. Mixed among the cutting-edge styles (and multitudinous ads) you'll find short but plentiful articles. Topics range in import: fluff stuff like "What Will You Wear Back to School?" and "The Ultimate Ponytail Guide" is balanced by heavier fodder, such as "No One Believes I Was Raped" and pieces on having a gay sibling and the dangers of binge drinking. Skewed largely toward a Caucasian teen audience, the magazine's coverage of beauty and relationship conundrums does offer nods to young women of color. The tone is resolutely positive, and amid all the talk of must-have hairdos and hottie alerts, the message is girl power in its most nonthreatening guise. --Brangien Davis ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine!
I love this magazine. It is really good for young girls and young women. It gives you advice on shopping, health, beauty, love, and more. And the models are not just skinny white blondes with blue eyes. There are girls that are diffrent races, and body shape. Buy this magazine!!!!

    4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Judge
I would like to comment on a letter written to Seventeen Magazine by a girl named Sarah from Plano, TX in the June issue. I was outraged when i read waht she had to say about homosexuality. "People learn to be homosexual from advertising and T.V." I am a military brat and have been blessed to know all different types of people and Sarah you might want to realize this country is based on the principals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. you have the right to be religious, do you not? So why can't people by gay? Being gay is not something you learn, your attracted to who your attracted too. Maybe you should ask your history teacher about homosexuality because it goes way back. I don't believe the Greek had televisions. And if you have such a big problem with the issues of today, instead of purchasing a magazine that is going to have those issues in it. Go to your local Wal-Mart, walk over to the stationary department, and buy a bible. Because honey, obviously your not as religious as you think, because the bible says to love thy neighbor, and not to judge people.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MAGAZINE
This is my favorite teen magazine. It is the only one that is truly worth its money. It is a nonshallow mag which features all races and skintones, as well as girls of different shapes and sizes. The girls in the magazine are anywhere between sizes 2-20. I would definetly recommend getting this magazine. They have artcles on college, politics, and current events as well as fashion, make-up, and celebs. It is a good magazine for girls ages 12-22. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best of the best...
Ithink I like this teen magazine the best of all the teen magazines. It wasn't trashy and focused a lot on clothes and fashion.Which I love.It also had other things typical ofteen magazines but it is a lot classier in its function.I think this magazine also delves into your inner-self and not so much about how you look (fat, skinny, curvy) but that you can look great no matter what your body shape is long as you love yourself.I think this magazine is worth subscribing to.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD MAGAZINE... REVIEW FROM A teen
This is a great magazine. Every single one of my friends likes cosmo girl. I really like it because it talks about issues, but also has quizzes, celebrities and personal stories. It is my favorite magazine. Every single page is exciting for me. It also shows clothing and models that are not only zero size. They are normal. I think any one who wants to read about issues and have some fun, while reading about celebrities should read this magazine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible.
When I saw the latest cover of this magazine saying: "Find your own style" and "REAL LIFE DRAMA - He stole my lottery ticket!" I knew I just had to write a review. Now, I once bought this magazine every single month for a few years. So yes, I have read it. And I am here to warn you and your teenage kids. Do NOT buy this, for Christ's sake! It's terrible. It ruins any form of individudality. It makes you feel depressed and ruins your self worth. Please don't give in to this. Sure, if you want to be a highly unintelligent bimbo that has no god damn life, read this all you want. I just think it's sad... This magazine has no purpose or whatsoever, other than making young girls feel like they NEED to buy all the "beauty products" and all that crap. I can't hate this magazine enough. Surely, all the other teen girl magazines are probably the exact same. This just happened to be the one I fell for, back in the days. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!
i read this magazine at my friends house once and loved it. it tells all celeberties we like and it has really good articles!!plus it has awsome posters!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good "newspaper/news" for Teens
I love J-14 magazine. I have been reading the magazine for 3 years, since I was 10. It lets us know what is happening out in the celeb world. It is our "newspaper". Teens need to know what the stars are doing; this magazine does just that! Pick up a copy of J-14 today!

4-0 out of 5 stars Read it at a friends...and liked it!
    Hi,
I read this mag. at a friend's house and I think it's pretty cool! some of the articals were downright boring but most were really cool! Also at my age everyone wants to know about the latest celeb. gossip but not the junky britney spears kind of stuff. ya' know...the songs and singers that are hot and stuff! I think it's great that they finally made a mag. for kids about celeb's but without all the inopropriate stuff that parents don't want kids to see! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST mag for cheerleaders!!!
Notice that all cheerleaders who have "reveiwed" this mag gave it 5 stars, and the other people who aren't or hate cheerleaders gave it one, naming it trash. Well if I was rating a basketball mag, I wouldn't give it a high score either!!!
***Why would you rate/ buy this magazine if you weren't a cheerleader in the first place?!? If you hate cheerleading, don't get the magazine!

*I cheer for 2 high school & All-star competitive teams

4-0 out of 5 stars Geared to squad members, not coaches
but I still enjoy flipping through its pages along with my girls, and find the articles on cheers, chants and stunts to be most helpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just ok
I got a subscription for my birthday and I won't be renewing it. Every once in a while you get an interesting article but a lot of it is kinda boring and looks like it comes from a doctor, not a magazine writer. I wouldn't reccomend it for people that aren't CHEERLEADERS (I am on a middle school pom squad) because you can't relate to it as well. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
I bought subscriptions to both elle girl and teen vogue two months ago, and now I wish I'd only gotten teen vogue. Each month's issues of elle girl and teen vogue cover exactly the same stuff, so you only need one, and teen vogue's miniature format is so cute with such pretty photography.Elle girl bugs me with its shallow, just-for-show interest in current issues, and its emphasis on boring celebrity interviews.Definitely go for teen vogue.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Ever
This magazine, although intended for the teenage crowd, seems to contain mostly advertisements. It holds only a couple of actual articles that are more than a paragraph long. I would never suggest this magazine, unless you are the kind of person who buys them to look at the ads.

3-0 out of 5 stars also appropriate for state and federal inmates on low budget
    1.
One star omitted because trees were cut down for a luxury.
    2.
    One star omitted because color semi-glossy paper was used;
a reader with a bit of imagination could do with matte B&W
    3.
Although this QUALITY periodical was not intended to be an
inmate's fantasy 'book', it can serve the purpose, and for
an extremely low price. At the risk of seeming ridiculous,
allow me to say that the calibre of the female models is a
rare treat. Being that the 'normal' fare of jail detainees
or convicted inmates is a MUCH lower-class, mostly nude or
all-nude collection of rather trashy females who appear in
raunchy magazines that are protected by the Constitution's
first amendment (freedom of the press), ELLE GIRL raises a
guy's standards by presenting fully-clad, very attractive,
non-provocatively-posed young women in well-composed photo
spreads. The text of the accompanying articles and sidebar
features are useless filler to a con, but the sheer amount
of top-of-the-line lasses makes this 'zine a real bargain.
    4.
To the friends and relatives of orthodox Jews or observant
Muslims who 'happen' to be in a state/federal correctional
facility (i.e., prison) or county jail: your guy does have
NEEDS, and Elle Girl can play a wholesome part in the ful-
fillment of male atraction to the female sex, withOUT smut
    that would debase a God-fearing man/young-man. There's not
a bad apple in the whole bunch of young damsels who flaunt
their God-given beauty on the pages of Elle Girl, and they
are presented so TASTEFULLY that they actually put females
who show more flesh to shame! I really think this magazine
can and will raise the standards of your loved one for the
duration of his confinement (and consequent deprivation of
mixing with the opposite sex). Pray on it, then ACT on it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing publication
I'm not one of those anti-teen magazine people. There's nothing wrong with liking fashion as well as books and the environment and other things. But as much as I like to read magazines like YM, Teen Ink is even better. It is the most well-edited magazine of teen writing I have ever seen--and I've seen a lot. It's filled with great writing of all kinds, as well as a college directory and a yearly college issue with tons of information.

    5-0 out of 5 stars ``
I have looked high and low as a teen writer for a magazine that I could call a potential market. I have scoured the internet, and could find depressingly little other than the average teenybopper magazine such as CosmoGirl or Seventeen, until I found Teen Ink. Teen Ink is a great magazine, chock-full of stories and articles teenagers with fresh ideas and perspectives have written. It is a wonderful magazine that is enjoyable to be read and to consider sending in one's own work to.

I give Teen Ink two thumbs up!

    Elisabeth

5-0 out of 5 stars You Have To Read It!
I am a teenage writer and when I found out about Teen Ink from my English teacher, I fell in love with the magizine. Now, I am a member on thier advisory board. It's a great magizine for teens to express themselves through writing and art. The entire magizine is written by teens for teens. Also, it is a place where teens can state thier opinions on issues of everyday life. So if you are not reading the Teen Ink magizine, you are missing out on a lot. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Why waste your time reading it?
It is beyond me why any pre-teen or teen would want to read this kind of magazine. I was reading this magazine a couple of weeks ago on a ski trip because my 13-year old friend happens to get it in her mail. The truth is, this magazine lacks substance.

I don't see why people even care what JoJo's friend thinks about her being a celebrity, how MK is recovering in the hospital from being anorexic or what Jesse McCartney's marital status is.Leave the celebs alone; let them live their life. I've seen the same things printed in this magazine over and over. This magazine is shallow and is downright materialistic (i.e. some articles that I have seen on various covers were "Get him to do anything you want!", "What's Jesse McCartney's nickname?" and "Terrified of being alone?").

I don't like most magazines, but if you want a mag with REAL substance, look forth for Seventeen or CosmoGIRL! magazine. And to the preteens--skip this magazine. The editors write at a level that 2nd graders can understand. Read anything but this--your local newspaper, even National Geographic (one of my favorites). This magazine is $17 for 10 issues--don't you think that's a bit pricey? If you're a parent, please don't buy your daughter this mindless garbage. Can't you find anything decent for your kids to read?

1-0 out of 5 stars Loved it...when I was nine.
I must say that I've read just about every teen magazine on the market, and this is by far the worst one I've ever read. However, at this point in my life, everything appears superficial and immature.

I first picked up Twist when it debuted on newsstands. I believe that was in August 1997. I was nine then, and looking to be fashion forward among my girlfriends who were still into the Jungle Gym. Because of my insane desire to be cool, and because Twist wasn't too hard for me to understand, I loved it and bought it religiously for about a year. My obsession with it slowly faded as the magazine got progressively worse and I didn't pick it up again...

...until my junior year in high school. Looking through a then-current issue of the magazine, I noticed that the way in which it was written was MADE to be comprehensible to a nine year-old, or the lowest common denomination of older teenage readers. What I'm trying to say is this magazine is totally dumbed-down. It doesn't give girls any credit for being able to think creatively, let alone read above a fourth-grade level.

I also found the content to be more childish and superficial than other teen magazines (although they are all superficial to an extent - that doesn't mean they don't make delightfully fun and entertaining reading to share with friends). Therefore, I recommend this magazine to tweens (9-13), and tweens only. But even they can do better than this magazine. Older readers should check out the somewhat more sophisticated 'Elle Girl' or 'Cosmo Girl', my two personal favorites.

P.S. I agree with one of the other reviewers who pointed out the numerous spelling errors in the magazine. Possibly my biggest caveat is the constant misuse of the apostrophe (i.e. Tuesday's instead of Tuesdays).

    1-0 out of 5 stars anti-teenybopper
How's J-Lo doing? Are Jennifer and Brad Pitt still together? What are the Olsen twins up to? Is Orlando Bloom a hottie or what?? Well...

WHO THE HELL CARES??? I got better things to care about than some news about these celebrities--people I've never actually met, let alone "know." Please, teenagers should be steered away from this kind of worthless, trashy magazine (other examples include Seventeen, YM, Teen People, and the list goes on). There are other issues which happen to be more important, you know. Try National Geographic or The New Yorker instead. The newspapers are also good. ... Read more
