Editorial Review

What's the No. 1 group dance for the pre-school set? Hint: it's not the "Electric Slide" or "Cotton-Eyed Joe." You guessed it, and so did Elmo: the "Hokey Pokey." Though Elmo doing the "Slide" would be a sight to see, he masters the Pokey quite convincingly, to the probable delight of his toddling fans. After loading his foot with four "AA" batteries, press his hand and he performs the popular jig. He sticks out both his right hand and foot, shakes his body all about, then smoothly spins in place, thanks to a rotating platform under one foot. Elmo even spices up the beat, and sporadically speeds up the action; both innovations crank up the fun factor. The only downside: he was de-plushed, presumably because of all the mechanisms needed to help him dance and maintain balance. The result, still, is an impressive performance. He's just not very cuddly. --Diane Beall ... Read more

Can we say neverstop!! - she ran this thing into the ground!! played with it alllll the time and still does - highly recommend

5-0 out of 5 stars My todler loves it!
I bought this for my son about two months ago. And I believe I must have gotten the most durable one. My 20 month old son was only dancing with him the first two weeks, until he discover that it's more fun to squeeze him, while he shakes, then throw him against the floor or wall. So far it has been over a month, and the Elmo is still singing, dancing, and saying oops or thank you. I would recomend this toy to any one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good times for kids
My 2 year old has this and loves it. He's already a huge fan of Elmo, so I'm sure that helps. The toy itself is rather neat since it pretty much does the hokey pokey. Elmo puts in his hand in, his leg in and he shakes all about, then he turns around in a circle. Doesn't work so good on carpet, better on smooth surfaces. The sound it good and lucky for us parents, the song doesn't last too long. If you tip him upside down he says "whoopsie!", and something about needing to be turned back upright. Cute toy. My son thinks Elmo is dancing with him. ... Read more

Editorial Review

"La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la, Elmo's World." Greeting children and parents alike with the theme song to the popular Elmo's World show, this Elmo plush looks and sounds like the real deal. Adorned with soft red fur and a bright orange nose, Guess What? Elmo is equipped with a built-in clock that activates a new conversation topic every day for seven days. When Elmo's hand is squeezed he'll talk about popular topics from the Elmo's World show, including birthday cakes, bugs, balls, hats, bananas, crayons, and shoes. He can say over 200 phrases in all, and whenever Elmo sings or talks, his mouth moves up and down. Measuring a little over 20 inches from the top of his head to the bottom of his furry feet, Elmo is soft enough to cuddle with, but you can feel a solid plastic body inside when you squeeze his tummy or chest. Requires three AA batteries (included) for operation. --Chris Burns ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
This toy would have great potention to be both fun and educational, if only you could hear what elmo is saying. The sound of the jaw moving covers every word coming out of elmo's mouth rendering the toy useless. As a result my son (19 months) would rather play with his other elmo doll, that says not a word but it great to cuddle with. And this elmo just sits on a shelf rarely touched.Don't waste your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality...darn
Despite the poor reviews on this item, I bought it for my then-12-month-old who loves Elmo. Out of the box, when Elmo would talk, his mouth would "click, click, click" and get stuck. This is exactly what all the reviews I had read stated. Amazon promptly exchanged it for me, and the same happens with our new one, although not as badly.

It's still a cute toy in terms of educational value. And I like that it can sit up on its own. But it is a very hard "stuffed animal" and not so great for cuddling.

If you're a huge Elmo fan and feel you must have this, know what you're getting in terms of reliability and quality. At the clearance price, I'd say it's worth a shot. I gave it a rating of 2 overall because it consistently fails to perform as designed.

4-0 out of 5 stars the best elmo on the market!
i bought this item for my one year old daughter.although it's a little sophisticated for her, she loves elmo and we play with it together.he says lots of fun phrases and is a much better looking elmo doll than most of the others i have seen.i have but one complaint, i thought the way elmo moves his mouth when he "speaks" was a great feature but it occasionally sticks and makes a loud popping noise.it scares the baby, so she doesn't play with it as often as she might otherwise.overall, i still think it's great and she'll have even more fun with it when she gets a bit older. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
One word does it!

I loved it as a child, my daughter loves it.Your child will to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped Foster My Love and Respect for Animals
(...)

Living in the country as I did, I saw plenty wild animals in my backyard (squirrels, raccoons, possums..), but armed with Ranger Rick, I was able to appreciate and see them up close with out being bit, scratched, mauled, or hauled off to the emergency room for rabies shots!

Besides the wonderful animal features, there were projects, games, and activities to keep me and my brother busy. The concepts put forth in each issue emphasized recycling, kindness to animals, and conservation -- values and beliefs I carry with me almost 30 years after the fact.

So whether you live on a farm, the suburbs, or the city, Ranger Rick would be a wonderful gift for your child. It will help foster a life long love and respect for animals, as well as reinforce key values (conservation, recycling, etc.).A few things have changed over the past 30 years, but Ranger Rick is still consistantly a good magazine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ranger Rots!
This magazine is too old for kids like 6 year olds, and buy the time kids are old enough to understand it, the topics are too babyish for them. The pictures are okay, but they are all the same after awhile. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Elmo has certainly sold out. The fuzzy red Muppet is dressed up in a chicken suit, with only his red face and hands showing. The fuzzy suit is bright yellow with a white chest, orange feet, and a red comb on the hood. Push the button on Elmo's left foot and his high-pitched voice encourages little ones to do the Chicken Dance with him. His arms flap and his knees bounce up and down as he sings the lines, "Elmo wants to be a chicken, Elmo wants to be a duck" to the familiar, but annoying, tune. Press the button on his right foot and Elmo will cluck like a chicken and move his head. Note that these two actions are the only ones Elmo does; there is no volume control, repeatedly hitting a button will cause a "rap effect," and the body under the chicken suit is hard plastic, which hurts his huggability factor. --Pam Lauer ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
Since he was an infant, our son has LOVED the Chicken Dance, and when he was 5.5 months we bought him Chicken Dance Elmo.At first he thought it was odd, but then he started to like it and we knew that whenever he was upset Elmo could get him to calm down.Eventually, at 7 months he went through a phase where he no longer wanted to be changed on his changing table.Wouldn't you know, Elmo was the the one toy that could occupy him long enough for us to change his diaper.

My BIG disappointment with Elmo is that he is not very durable. We used him for entertainment purposes only and after two months he just stoppped singing. He still clucks like a chicken if you press his foot, but when you press the other foot nothing happens (no song and dance). We thought it needed more batteries but after trying that its clear that Emlo is broken.Which is too bad since we really liked this toy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for young kids!
I bought this toy for my neice on her 1st birthday.Out of all the awesome, expensive toys that she's gotten, this was her favorite! The best $15 I ever spent! It goes everywhere with her, and she's learned how to dance from watching and playing with Elmo.I loved this item so much I'm buying one for my baby (well actually it's for me)!

4-0 out of 5 stars Suprise hit!
Our kids are shy (usually) but they immediately loved Elmo & danced along with him bending their knees & flapping their arms!I wish the song were longer, but our kids have a very good time with this & return 2 or 3 times daily! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute and simple intro to manners, sort of.
Since Elmo can do no wrong in our house, this book seemed like a natural pick to help introduce manners to our fussy two year old who likes things her way. She actually followed along when we read about teaching Cookie Monster to say please, but when it came to the part where Bert says, "How do you do?" to an octopus, I think it went over her head.Obviously the idea of learning basic manners early on is a great one, I just think the book didn't hit the mark squarely enough so that young ones can apply what they see and hear to their everyday activities.Better to have shown real life scenarios that a child can relate to when showing them how to behave politely.

"Thank you" and "excuse me" are also covered, so it doesn't miss the mark completely. And the large board book format is perfect for lap reading and rough little hands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gimmie Cookie Please!
This book is my son's favorite bedtime book, as it has been for over a year now. This book has been instrumental in creating a good foundation of manners for my son. We also use this book to reinforce sign language for "Please" and "Thank You."

Concerning the language used: If one reads Cookie Monster's request in the Cookie Monster voice, then children recognize the difference between human language and monster language.

I highly suggest this book. It is a fast read with great results!

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't lose with Elmo!
My almost 10 month old son loves Elmo. But truthfully, I think he likes holding the book (great for diaper changes) more than he likes to hear it read to him.But I do use this book bedtime, and it works like a charm! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Soft Doll Adventure
I just purchased my first issue of this magazine. To my delight, it contains full size patterns for several dolls, as well as very detailed, illustrated articles on how to make each individual feature of the dolls. This is a project I have wanted to tackle for some time, and thanks to this magazine, I now have the confidence to get started. My first project is not yet complete, but I can already tell this is going to be a good one.The dolls in this magazine are not toys, and they are not simple to make.If you want something for your grandbaby to chew on, this is not for you. These are very complex, soft sculptures. However, the directions are so complete, even a first timer like me can follow along, and achieve success. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Toddler Magazine For Your Animal Lover!!!
We ordered this magazine for our son when he was one year old because he loves photographs of animals. This magazine is so cute. Each month they feature a baby animal with real photographs and a short story. The issues also include an animal fingerplay, an animal comparison (Showing your child how a particular animal is similar in one way to him or herself.), a short story about a child and his or her pet, and a picture hunt for a little skunk that is hidden four places in the magazine.Other material changes each month and feature an early childhood concept. Some months you will have counting, other months focus on a beginning sound (and all the animals that start with that sound), opposites, and other skills are introduced. What a greatintroduction to magazines.A must for every toddler that is an animal lover. My son is now 17 months and will bring his Wild Animal Baby magazine to me and sit in my lap wanted it to be read over and over.

Another plus to this magazine is that it is small for little hands (about board book size). The corners are rounded and the pages are sturdy (but not as thick as board book pages). The magazine is also glue bound so you don't have to worry about a curious toddler and staples.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything is good except the binding
The magazine is interesting and informative. My toddler can recognize and tell the names of many animals, she learns a lot from the magazine.
Just one thing is that the binding easily coming off after a few times of flipping.
We would like to keep the magazines and so the siblings and other kids can have the chance to read them.

I have been gluing and putting scotch tapes all over the magazines, but they still not holding up.

Hope the publisher will look into this matter and have it improved.
Thank you for your attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler magazine!Nice size for little hands.
I started my daughter's subscription on her first birthday. She loves the idea of getting her own magazine, and we spend lots of time looking through each issue. We keep all the issues with her books, and I've often seen her looking at them.We take them with us when we go out to eat so she has something to look at.They're also terrific potty reading material; easy for her to hold and great pictures. ... THERE ARE SO MANY TOPICS THAT THEY HAVE.
I'M GLAD I FOUND THE BACK ISSUES.
GREAT LEARNING TOOL FOR KIDS
GREAT FOR PROJECTS AND HOMEWORK
EVENIF I DID NOT HAVE A HOOK UP WITH THE ISSUES
I WOULD STILL BUY THIS MAGAZINE FOR KIDS
THE MAGAZINE IS ABOUT 20 PAGES LONG

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best educational mag's I've found
I bought this for my children and was surprised to find my husband and myself reading it as well. Not only did it come in handy for homework, but the old issues have been saved and used in projects, papers, homework and even by the teachers! I have five children, so they have had alot of exposure to diffirent age levels and have always proven usful. Some of the teachers were excited because this subscription was one that they wished that they could get every year as part of their class materials.
As an added point, while on vacation, we have spotted the back issues on sale in gift shops for as much as four ninety nine $4.99. These were issues that contained stories about the particular historic event, etc that they thought informative enough to sale.
You can't go wrong with this one!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
