1-0 out of 5 stars Test some cars for the "Average" buyer
This magazine is not for the average car buyer. They might as well call this the Robb Report. They only test highend cars and the "best" ones are the ones that go 0-60mph the quickest, not ride nice or get good mpg.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pound by pound the best
In USA, you can't find a better magazine. These is the magazine if you want to know the technical details on a simple but professional way, and at the same time, has great humor. Just check that the other magazines are loaded with C&D former talents.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best General Interest Car Mag Out There
I subscribe to all of the mainstream North American auto publications, plus several European ones. There are several magazines which drip of advertiser influences. Their car of the year and/or reviews are obviously slanted toward the makers who advertise the most. Wouldn't want to upset the profit apple cart, you know.

Car & Driver, like its sister publication, Road & Track, are both top flight reads, written by engineers and former car industry hacks, who know how to keep it interesting even for those who are less mechanically inclined. The information is complete, the tests are consistent, the photography is top-notch. There is even good humor to be found (John Phillips is a must read).

I've read this magazine for decades, dating back deep into the David E. Davis (now of Automobile Magazine fame), then through the William Jeanes era and now Csaba Csere (pronounced Chubba Chedda). It has been consistently the best overall car writing available for a reasonable price.

If you like Car & Driver, you'll also enjoy Road & Track, Automobile and the weekly AutoWeek. Each are interesting, although reading all of these will get you some overlapping coverage. If your budget and time allows only one subscription, make it C&D or R/T. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best weekly car rag
I currently subscribe to three car magazines: Grassroots Motorsports for my bi-monthly amateur motorsports/project car fix, Road & Track for my monthly car comparison and vintage car fix, and Autoweek for my weekly new-car-news-first fix.No other printed publication can touch Autoweek for being the first to press with the latest and greatest car news and racing coverage. And they always do it with beautiful photography, informative and entertaining writing, and an easy-to-read format.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for news!
While this magazine may be the good for racing and car reviews I keep getting because it gives real NEWS. All the other car magazines have lead times of months or more. Autoweek can tell you what happened last week in the automotive world. Where this appeals to me most is finding out what new cars are coming. If you are someone that wants to know that the new Mini-Cooper is coming this Spring then you could have read it in Autoweek two years ago, with pictures! Learn week by week that the new BMW M3 is delayed, things like that. They often have driving impression reviews months before other car magazines. Another sometimes great part of this magazine is the last page called BWTM for 'But Wait There's More...'. Here they make fun of the automotive news. Other than those sections the full car reviews are average at best, not as good as Car & Driver. The racing coverage of Nascar, F1, Cart and sometimes IRL is good but you only get about 2 pages of each per issue. Not much coverage of other racing. The editorial columns are 2nd rate and not as good as Car & Driver. Buy it for the news, that's my review!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for racing coverage
Many of the columnists, writers, etc. (Leon Mandel, Rich Ceppos) "graduated" from other, monthly car magazines.Overall, this magazine covers racing much more thoroughly than the monthlies (not surprising, considering that a weekly can cover individual races), yet still extends to individual car reviews and to other aspects of the automotive world (Keith Martin's classic car auction reviews are an example) and industry news events much more quickly, again because AutoWeek can cover those issues almost immediately, as they happen.Still, if you want coverage of Formula One, CART, IRL, and NASCAR, among the major magazines, this is your only choice. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Sport compact magazine
This magazine is packed full with great down to earth writting and tons and tons of project cars, and with the project cars they tell you EVERYTHING! If you dont like the sport compact cars this might not be the magazine for you but if you do this is the one. Every issue is almost like a book it has so much stuff inside. Get this if you r into and type of sport compact car or just need to fix some stuff on your own!

5-0 out of 5 stars The sports compact scene without the lifestyle BS
This magazine isn't a fashion show about the new youth culture and it doesn't pander to people like some of the car shows on TNN.It stays focused on the cars and doesn't stray to the "lifestyle" aspect of the sport. This is a real magazine for real car guys.I was impressed by the detailed technical sections and by the understandable explanations about how various parts do (and more importantly don't) help your car perform better in the real world. The head to head tests are excellent. There are lots of pictures and features about cool cars, but they haven't pushed the substantive sections of the magazine out - its a very nice combination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written, Informative, and not Boy Racer Friendly
I am a loyal subscriber to SCC, and I must say that it is by far the most well written and technologically informative and up to date automotive magazine in print. One of the things that impresses me about the mag is the fact that they use real horsepower ratings. They measure the amount the car actually puts out to the wheels and not to the flywheel. They also actually know what they are talking about in terms of suspension dynamics and well thought out engine mods. The fact that they focus on more than just the Honda "scene" is also a breath of fresh air.SCC, as its title emphsizes, does cover a niche market, but they are always accurate in their reviews of new cars. These guys are hardcore, and they could care less if the newest import to hit the market has cup holders or not.All they care about is how the car performs, which frankly, is what a technically minded, all go, no show guy or gals wants anyway. The only other mag that can hold a candle to SCC is perhaps Grassroots Motorsports. ... Editorial Review

Founded by former Car and Driver editor in chief David E. Davis Jr., Automobile doesn't attempt to dodge its kinship to that leading consumer automobile monthly: apart from Davis, who's since stepped aside to pen a regular column and occasional features, the younger magazine showcases features, road tests, essays, and news from a staff noteworthy for being C/D alumni and contributors. Jean (Lindamood) Jennings, one of the first women to carve out notoriety as an automotive journalist, now brings her own brash, high-spirited stamp as editor in chief while wisely letting her pedigreed scribes strut their stuff.Automobile thus proves to be as authoritative and well written as its somewhat better-known progenitor.--Sam Sutherland ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Automobile writing uninspiring
Automobile was created by one of a former editor-in-chief of Car and Driver. It's initial premise was to make automotive journalism more gender-neutral, with less emphasis on technical material and more on aesthetics and dynamics. This is evident as the editor-in-chief of Automobile is a woman, Jean Jennings. While I find the writing to be uninspiring, others apparently do. The circulation of Automobile surpasses rivals Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Read it at the newsstands to see if it fits you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Keeps slipping every month
This magazine is turning into a picture show with very little content.Everything is subjective in the magazine with very little (or none at all) technical data to base their opinions on.There just isn't enough to this magazine. It only takes a few minutes to get through it, since it's basically a picture-book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Automobile Mag sub
I like Automobile mag.It keeps me up to date on new cars and concepts in contrast to all my reading on import modding magazines.I think that Automobile is similar to any of the other car magazines such as Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, etc.I dont think it matters which mag u subscribe to.Just pick one.You could go to a bookstore and browse through each magazine to see which one u like the best, and then subscribe to it. ... Great Magazine,

I use this magazine and go to http://www.buyacarforum.com to learn everything about cars and to buy a new car, try it out, its great!

5-0 out of 5 stars All-Car News in One Magazine
The best magazine that brings you all of the next events releated to cars like new upcomping cars and models, Recommended for you is you want to be up-to-date with the new cars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Motor Trend - Not Too Bad!
I've had a subscription to Motor Trend for over 3 years and for the money $10-$12 a year it's not too bad.Sometimes the vehicles they show in the main article of the month are way out of normal blue-collar family budgets but they try to show a broad look at all vehicles and they do a great job of explaining everything in detail.I would give 5 stars if they would cut back on showing the real extravagant vehicles. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Okay only if you're a serious gearhead
In my opinion Road & Track is just okay. While they test the
newest cars and always have the lastest news on the auto industry, the magazine entirely lacks humor and is plain boring. By itself its okay but not when compared to its rivals such as Motor Trend and its sister magazine Car & Driver- which is in my opinion the best by far. Also, Road & Track probably doesn't test half as many cars a year as Car & Driver does and they don't test SUVs, minivans or pickup trucks as does its rivals. Road & Track's writing style can also tend to get boring with not an ounce of humor talking strictly about 'technical' stuff. The editors are also seem to be afraid to criticise poor performing cars, giving instead praise to every car they test.
If the traits of Road & Track forementioned above don't bother you in the slightest, then feel free to subscribe- but make sure you purchase a newsstand copy first just to make sure you like it- otherwise buy Car & Driver or at least Motor Trend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Automotive Journalism at its best
I'm a subscriber to Road & Track, Car and Driver, and Motor Trend. Simply put, R&T is the one I look forward to the most each month.

If you're looking for a well-rounded auto magazine, this is it. In R&T you'll find:
    -Road Tests and First Drives.
-An excellent "Ampersand" monthly feature with all the latest info on future cars and prototypes.
-News about the latest races and drivers.
    -Top-notch photography and art.
-Witty columnists. (see Side Glances by Peter Egan)
    -The occasional technology-related feature.
-Classic cars, classic drivers, classic tracks. The best historical content in the business.
-Very little content on SUVs. (a positive in my book)

    The competitors:
Car and Driver has substantially more road tests and previews, and some good specialty features on a pretty regular basis, but hardly anything on racing and history.

Frankly, Motor Trend isn't anything to write home about. The articles are shorter and less captivating, they can't seem to settle on a design theme, and they also have a lack of racing and historical content.

If I had to pick just one, Road & Track would definitely be my choice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Maybe I'll like it more when I'm older
I'm under 30 and don't remember all the old cars that some of the journalists have such fond memories of.Also, this is a very serious magazine.I can see how the articles and their serious, "just the facts" style can appeal to some people, but I like the lighthearted and funny style of C&D.R&T sometimes seems very dry to me.MT tries to be funny, but it never works.MT writers remind me of people with really bad senses of humor that think they are funny. They wind up just being annoying.I would place this magazine as a middle of the road magazine.Sportscar international and C&D are #1, R&T is in the middle, Automobile slightly lower and MT is the bottom of the barrel ...
