1-0 out of 5 stars "Lapidary Review" - What a total misnomer!!
I expected this magazine to cover articles related to rocks, cabochons, semi precious stones etc.I have just received my second issue. At least 50% of the 95 pages are simply advertising - which I think is, to put it mildly, far too much. Their features this month are: "Dreaming in Metal," "Improving you Opal cutting," "2004 AGTA Spectrum Awards."The Step by Step projects include: "Forged hinged bracelet." "Ancient Vessel" - using glass, foil, and lampworking skills to create this "fun" pendant!!" , and how to make a pair of bell earrings using PMC paper!!

Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary defines lapidary as:"a) sculptured in or engraved on stone; b: of or relating to precious stones or the art of cutting them; c) having elegance and precision." This review deals with nothing even close to this definition.I wish I could cancel my subscription, but there is no place on their website where one can do this.

3-0 out of 5 stars gone downhill
This used to be a great magazine but in the past year they have changed format, and have cut their articles by a third. The projects they go over have become less challenging, more for crafters then for jewelers. A third to half the magazine is advertisements, and they are always, the same.

4-0 out of 5 stars Top of the line...
Lapidary Journal Magazine is #1 in my book as far as a magazine geared for people in the jewelry field. Covers just about all aspects from creating to selling and even has project plans! Has a lot of great advertisers if you are just starting out as a hobby jewelry maker. This magazine will help you locate just about anything jewelry related you are searching for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MAGAZINE. I HIGHLY RECOMMNED IT.!
THIS IS A GREAT MAGAZINE. IT HAS JUST ENOUGH OF ALL THING S THAT I LIKE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO IT EVERY MONTH. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON.

1-0 out of 5 stars Exasperated, Failed Unsubscriber
Yes, COMPLEX Magazine is cheap. That about says it all. It's a sorry rag that preys upon the insecurities of every teen and twenty-something out there who, sadly, is rich enough to buy the clothes and other crap the magazine pushes so they can look poor.Yes, I realize this has become the cultural norm of the MTV-Y Generation, but it is still quite pathetic. My GREATEST complaint is that I never asked for this magazine, never subscribed to it, never paid one cent for it, and yet it won't stop showing up in my mailbox!I've tried to "unsubscribe" (which is funny, given that I never "subscribed" to it in the first place) by email and by phone but I can't get them to stop.If anyone else has had any luck ridding themselves of this magazine, please let us know, as I'm sure I'm not the only victim.

5-0 out of 5 stars NEXT LEVEL
Complex is the wave of the future! It's like a pop culture mag with a hip-hop sensibility -- and a great product guide.I think it's really enjoyable to read and more closely reflects my actual lifestyle than any other mag I've seen.

What I like the most about it is that it doesn't take anything too seriously. It doesn't put Hip-Hop on a pedestal and it covers a much broader range of topics than Vibe, The Source or XXL. It has a great sesne of humor and surprisingly sophisticated tone of voice.

That said, there is a lot of advertising and the occasional piece of garbage in there. But I think it's pretty new -- and I would recommend it to any of my friends. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent depiction of tattoo culture
Many people ...moan about the articles in this magazine, it is really unfortunate that no one is interested in the tattoo culture as much as the tattoos themselves.I am a collector of tattoos (12 and still going strong), but why get tattoos without knowing about advancements in tattooing, or the awesome people that do it.People who have tattoos should really enjoy the articles, and the people that keep tattooing alive. The culture is as entertaining as the pictures, and if you don't apreciate that than you shouldn't get tattoos.Respect those that make a living sharing their art with the world, don't be close minded and expect only pictures, that's not tattoing or the tattoo world. This is an excellent magazine and I would suggest it to any one!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it, but....
Being tattooed myself (currently 11) I love checking out new art from around the world... which has made me addicted to this magazine. The only problem? I have to agree that there are just too many articles that have nothing to do with tats. Granted, the mag has introduced me to some new cds, but that really isn't what I'm buying it for. If you're into articles as well as pics, get a subscription. If you're looking for just pics - check out Flash magazine.
