Super Bee
The 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee in the book that has the Superbird wing on the back is not a stock car, that makes people think that Dodge made that car in 1970.

A muscle-car lovers dream!
This is a great book in the category of muscle-cars and one of the best offered by Amazon.com,however its not recommended for todays youth who werent around when these great cars ruled the roads.To enjoy this book,you need to be at least in your mid to late thirties.This book is not intended for todays teens or early twenties,theyre only permitted to enthuse about todays cars.

A damn good book !
This is a great book for the muscle-car lover.Its comprehensive,offers accurate and complete technical specs and great photos of some of the hottest american cars ever produced.This book is recommended only for men 45 years old or older,its not appropriate for these young guys that werent even around when these cars were conceived and built!

Great photographs, but poorly organized
American Muscle Cars has terrific photographs and lots of interesting information.The first part of the book focusing on early muscle cars is particularly well done.Overall, however, the text is poorly organized andseems to jump back and forth between subjects and periods.

OK
This book is alright. Although not entirely accurate, its OK for someone new to muscle cars. Most of the muscle cars are covered and all have descriptions of there different models. There is also a price guide in the back for those interested in specific models and years.

Informative..Yes.Accurate..No.
When one purchases a "Standard Guide", one would expect a thorough and accurate accounting of the subject.This book does not meet that minimum standard.The information provided as to model information is shoddy and poorly researched. Production numbers are inaccurate, photos are of poor quality and in some cases, identifying the wrong vehicle. One need not be a gearhead to identify or grasp the magnitude of the errors made in this reference guide. For example Steve McQueen DID NOT drive a Charger in "Bullitt".The lack of proofreading and research evident in this "Standard Guide" is an affront to educated automobile afficiandos everywhere.

A commendable effort
I too enjoyed the original print ads for a great many of the cars shown. And the information is generally reliable as well. Although one should keep an open mind. In the section covering the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T the editor states that this is the car driven by Steve McQueen in "Bullitt." This, of course, is not true as McQueen drove a Ford Mustang fastback; the mafia hitmen drove a black Charger 440 R/T. ... Read more

Dry but interesting
Interesting for someone just getting into this subject, it's more of a recitation of model-year features than an in-depth examination. Prose is a little dry, it livens up when Herd talks to actual designers or drivers.

Worthwhile addition
More of a coffe table book than a reference guide,thisbook touches on all versions of the cars including the Volare and Magnum variants.Dozens of beautiful pictures and original ad copy capture a time when horsepower meant everything.For some reason the author must have insisted every car photographed be red, I would have liked to see some of the other colors offered. The author really understands the magnetic attraction these cars had for guys growing up during the classic musclecar era.The book is great - it covers all makes fairly and has a wealth of photos and descriptions.But it also gives you a real understanding of why these cars were (and are) so special and why they're still revered today.Buy this book!

Excellent Teaching Material
This book was bought for my 8 year old son.We are a family of car lovers and he took to it right away.I was surprised to hear him talk about Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs and other American Muscle Cars like he has known about them for years.When I asked him how he knew about these cars he said he saw them in his coloring book.
I recommend this book for anyone that enjoys American Muscle Cars.

Pretty Pictures
I was confused as to who authored this book, as Sarah Bradley's name never appears in my 2002 edition which also has a different car on the front cover than pictured here. The book does have many beautiful and stunning pictures of great muscle cars. Most of the pricing, production figures and engine configurations are very interesting. The only problem with the book was that it was never proofed for errors after printing. Many of the picture inset desriptions are referencing the wrong picture and sometimes even on the wrong page. Some of the descriptions are in error as to the year of the vehicle (eg. a 1967 Chevelle description of a 1968 Chevelle). One of the pictures is even inversed making the Satellite look like a right-hand drive car with funny license plates. It is a shame that such a fine book was never proofed checks for such obvious errors, but, still a fine book for muscle car lovers. ... Read more

An overview of the dawn of the american muscle car era
Firstly I must comment on the quality of the photos in this book, they are oustanding, mainly colour, crystal clear and printed on quality paper, complemented by concise line drawings. For this reason alone the book is worth the asking price. In 120+ pages it tries to cover a decade in which cars and car technology leapt forwards, this it does by being brief on most subjects and omitting other areas. In contrast to this the writing style can be heavy going at times, not a book to be perused lightly. As a taster of the fifties era though it can't really be faulted. Great Pictures
This book has some really good pictures. The cars in this book are very rare muscle cars. Their are statistics showing of how much of each car were produced. Their is also some good information. Too bad they didn't have the 1969 Yenko Nova which is a very rare car.

Fantastic photography of rare muscle cars
This book was a gift from my uncle who liked muscle cars. It is an excellent book on cars from the Otis Chandler collection. The collection seems to be biased towards mopar, especially the famous 426 HEMI cars that have become especially collectible-due to flamboyant design-even by muscle era standards, and the rare Hemi engines. So that is the good and the bad-It is mainly covers Hemi mopar-especially ultra rare convertibles, and GM big block muscle. COPO, Yenkos and other relatively rare and unknown to the general public muscle cars. Very few Fords, but they can be found elsewhere. But the photography is excellent, and each car reflects a story about the muscle car era-insurance, OPEC, etc. while discussing the car. The Challenger T/A has an entertaining descriptive story that I liked the best. Camaros, Chevelles, and Corvettes are well covered.The book concludes with a 1971 Hemi'cuda convertible that is familiar to most tv viewers.This book may cause you to petition Chrysler to reopen the assembly lines and start making the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda again!
