5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a magazine
Woman's Day has the feel of a community with its intensely personal warmth. From parenting advice, health, cooking, crafts and homemaking and more, it bonds its target audience together whether you're a single mom, happily married, or even single. I enjoyed this magazine as a teen with my mom and love it even more as an adult. Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Articles
Woman's Day is a good resource for women. It covers a variety of topics, including health/beauty, diet/exercise, relationships, children. There are tips for getting organized, recipes, crafts and decorating tips also. There's a Tip A Day Calendar as well as a Day to Day meal planner. It relies heavily on reader's tips which are scattered through the magazine and in the various articles. Each issue tells you how to join the Woman's Day Readers panel to submit tips and maybe win a prize. And even if you don't want to join the Reader's panel, there are plenty of other prizes given away by Woman's Day.

Woman's Day is well worth subscribing to!

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring, Really Boring
....The articles and spreads are not at all remarkable; there's nothing here that will blow your mind. The projects are fun but they don't look good at all.The recipes are ok but nothing you couldn't find in any cookbook.I understand that for a very low price you get 17 issues but if you actually hold an individual issue, it's incredibly thin.I noticed that even the binding is bigger than the amount of paper!.... Woman's Day is the school marm of the bunch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
I really enjoyed my subscription to Parents Magazine while I was pregnant and during the first year of our daughter life. I liked the product recalls...found it very helpful. I now buy it at the store when I am wanting a magazine. There is things I think they should change with this magazine but overall it is worth buying.
Great gift if you know a new mommy that isn't already getting this in the mail.

3-0 out of 5 stars Should change its name to 'Mothers'
As is true of most of the mainstream parenting magazines, I find the articles almost exclusively geared toward mothers, rather than (both) parents -- only rarely to fathers. Perhaps this is a little less true of this pub. than of its chief competitor, "Parenting."The voice of the articles often specifically addresses the mother/female half of the parenting team and the features with beauty tips in the "taking care of yourself" vain are pure fluff, more appropriate to 'Vogue' or 'Self' and of course, again, never addressing the male half of the parent team.

I agree with other reviewers who have noted that the general tone of many of the articles seem to be mostly aimed at upper income, traditional families. While we can often find something of interest/use in this mag. As'older' (over 40) parents of a 3-yr. old transculturally adopted daughter, this targetting is makes the magazine less useful than it could be. As the 'father' half of the team, I find it even less helpful, although, if I had to choose between this pub. and "Parenting" I would opt. for this one.

I guess the marketeers believe that fathers don't read magazines about parenting, and saddly maybe this is mostly true, but I would love to see a magazine that is truely devoted to parenthood -- all types and all both halves. This ain't it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Raising Kids in the Modern World
Parents magazine is a very good publication about raising kids to be happy, healthy adults. It offers some good advice about the task of parenthood, illustrating the hard work and rewards that go hand in hand if parents perform their role in the best possible manner.

I like this magazine as a whole, but there are a few things that potential readers need to know about before they pick up a copy to read. First of all, the articles in Parents magazine deal mostly with younger children, below twelve years of age. You won't find much of value in this magazine if you have teenagers. It is intended more for families with youngsters.

Another thing about this magazine that makes it less practical than it otherwise would be is the suggestions for family activities. The ideas presented here are all pretty good, but the problem is that the majority of them involve outlays of cash and/or time that are unrealistic for most families. I can agree, for example, that adding a game room would make a nice addition to one's house and would add tremendously to a family's time spent together. But how many among us can afford a home addition? Parents magazine talks about activities and enhancements like this in an unrealistic way, making them seem much simpler and easier to implement than they really are.

Aside from distractions like that, however, Parents is a very good magazine to read. It's one of the longest magazines you can buy, with 200 to 300 pages per issue. Add to that the low subscription price, a few pages of coupons, and the generally sound parental advice and you have all the makings of a good magazine for young families.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Mens Room
Esquire magazine covers a wide range of subjects for the modern male in today's America. It's much more sophisticated then other mens fare, like Maxim, Stuff and Playboy--not that there's anything wrong with those publications mind you. Esquire has no problem profiling a beautiful leading lady every now and then, it just does so much less in your face or obvious. I have also found that the stories are much more in depth. It also is a good place to read solid fiction from time to time-from some of today's popular writers. Politics Entertaiment, World Events, Sports and Fashion are all given their due. But at the same time it also has enough room for the fluff stuff as well.

Rcommended read and well worth the cost.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than the competition
I use to enjoy Playboy, yet it has devolved into another typical guy mag (i.e. FHM). I gave Esquire a shot given the positive reviews & exceptional price. While it's not bad, on average I have found the magazine mediocre. Some issues are better than others, sometimes there is interesting commentary, interviews, stories, etc. Unfortunately, there seems to be a fair bit of the fluff that you also find in the other mags as well. In addition, much of the writing is generally a bit weak IMHO. Overall it's not bad; although, I gave an extra star for the price. Worth a look for 8$.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Men Need to Know
This is the ultimate magazine for sophisticated men.
    =
It deals with every issue of concern to masters of the
Universe -- money, clothes, cars, life-style, and of
course, women. The only thing is that this magazine
handles these topics in a much more elegant manner than
    Maxim, Playboy, GQ, what-have-you.

For example, there have been tremendously enlightening
articles about cutting edge books, music, even a vocal
instruction cd called "Voice Lessons to Go" and a sex
instruction dvd which was awesome called "New Sex Now"
have been brought to my attention through this
    excellent monthly.

    =
I read this magazine carefully, especially the annual
lists of things men need to know about. It's not something
to read on the subway -- rather, take it to the cabin
in the country and ponder every word in your favorite
    chair with a single-malt. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best of the best...
Ithink I like this teen magazine the best of all the teen magazines. It wasn't trashy and focused a lot on clothes and fashion.Which I love.It also had other things typical ofteen magazines but it is a lot classier in its function.I think this magazine also delves into your inner-self and not so much about how you look (fat, skinny, curvy) but that you can look great no matter what your body shape is long as you love yourself.I think this magazine is worth subscribing to.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD MAGAZINE... REVIEW FROM A teen
This is a great magazine. Every single one of my friends likes cosmo girl. I really like it because it talks about issues, but also has quizzes, celebrities and personal stories. It is my favorite magazine. Every single page is exciting for me. It also shows clothing and models that are not only zero size. They are normal. I think any one who wants to read about issues and have some fun, while reading about celebrities should read this magazine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible.
When I saw the latest cover of this magazine saying: "Find your own style" and "REAL LIFE DRAMA - He stole my lottery ticket!" I knew I just had to write a review. Now, I once bought this magazine every single month for a few years. So yes, I have read it. And I am here to warn you and your teenage kids. Do NOT buy this, for Christ's sake! It's terrible. It ruins any form of individudality. It makes you feel depressed and ruins your self worth. Please don't give in to this. Sure, if you want to be a highly unintelligent bimbo that has no god damn life, read this all you want. I just think it's sad... This magazine has no purpose or whatsoever, other than making young girls feel like they NEED to buy all the "beauty products" and all that crap. I can't hate this magazine enough. Surely, all the other teen girl magazines are probably the exact same. This just happened to be the one I fell for, back in the days. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Women I Find Attractive
Keep your Maxims.Keep your Blenders.Keep your Stuffs.Keep Your FHMs.Hell, keep any magazine with frail and sickly looking women on them.To quote a verse from Sir Mix A Lot's "Baby Got Back": "To the beanpole dames in the magazines, you ain't it Ms. Thing."This magazine is all I've ever asked for and then some. The women on the cover are women that I actually find attractive, not the skinny chicks that are nothing more than pretty faces (and sometimes they aren't even that).I won't get into color and all that, but we all know who those other magazines are made for and I guess that's why the chicks that could use a meal or two always make the cover. To be honest with you, I still don't understand the logic behind that.I also fail to see the attraction to women that have their entire rib cage showing, but hey, to each his own I guess.King Magazine contains everything I've ever wanted in a men's magazine: stunning women of ALL colors, music reviews, fashion tips and articles to read after you're done drooling at the women.I highly reccomend this to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars The women are smoking...
I don't know why it took so long for a magazine to come out with women models with meat/curves on their bodies.I agree with the previous reviewer that I just don't "get off" on the thin girls in Maxim, FHM, etc.I am a male hispanic and I just subscribed to this magazine not only for the hot curvacious women but they got some pretty cool articles and interviews.About time!

    Editorial Review

Founded in 1985 by Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione's son, Bob Jr., Spin magazine aimed to occupy a space forged and outgrown by Rolling Stone, which had since moved on from counter-culture reporting to a more pop-culture focus. Due to its well-funded birth, Spin rode the wave of the burgeoning alternative rock movementand was afforded the luxury of being as controversial as it wanted, forsaking at times somewhat slanted reporting in favor of the punch and jibe. Nonetheless, it brought into America's peripheral vision early stories of the ravages of AIDS in Africa, in addition to standard artist interviews and album reviews. Switching from a tabloid format to a glossy perfect-bound publication, the magazine now reports on fleeting music trends and the Next Big Thing more than it unearths alternative-rock gems, but it still does a good job of uncovering behind-the-scenes-stories, such as the violent acts and deplorably unhygienic conditions of 1999's Woodstock III music festival, in a way no other music magazine does. When the Beastie Boys released Hello Nasty in 1998, Spin published three different editions of the magazine--each with a separate headshot of one member of the renegade hip-hop group. Three years later, Rolling Stone copied the gimmick, featuring the members of boy band 'N Sync individually on five different covers. If Spin's influence in rock journalism was ever in question, this event provides irrefutable proof. --Beth Massa ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent overview
Ok - This is not pitchforkmedia.com - the online music review who's more concerned with prose rather than the actual reviewing of music BUT nevertheless the greatest source out there to new music. This ain't Rolling Stone neither, who'd have a better place in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame rather than the newstand, as it doesn't mean anything anymore to contemporary music fans. This is the guy stuck in the middle, between the one who does not want the intellectual crap of the one, neither the commercial junk from the other. Hence, a 3-star for ideal pulp, just what you want if you have 10 minutes to spend on the toilet! But then again, this is a daily occupation...

1-0 out of 5 stars Egocentric Trash
I'm sure that this review isn't unique.Spin rotates the same ten bands on its cover, not to mention the ridiculous articles written within. By the time they get done describing the 'euro-punk-indie-pop artist that just slammed them in the face on their way to the train station with their jazzed up sound' I've completely forgotten the point of thier article. They must have the greatest time just sitting around finding how many contradictory adjectives they can tag onto useless music and still manage to say nothing. They sound like cyber-nerds who need to get out a little more and stop getting thier info from mtv.com. I'm sure that i've learned more about what thier editors do in the office on any given day than anything remotely close to music while reading spin.Next time you see it on the stands, I suggest you spin in another direction.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the serious golfer
Golf tips magazine is one of the most aptly titled magazines available today. It is chock full of heavily-illustrated exercises and other tips for serious golfers to improve their games.

There are a number of golf magazines on the newstand today. Most of them rely on a lifestyle format relying more heavily on lifestyle-type stories about today's hot golfers and the courses they play. Most of them include a brief game tip or two but seem aimed at the casual duffer.

Golf Tips, on the other hand, features almost nothing but heavily illustrated tips on improving one's swing, eliminating mistakes and putting better. It also is heavily loaded with features on the latest equipment technology. Each issue also seems to feature an article on the technical aspects of a selected major golf course. The articles are written with terminology that serious golfers will understand but that may confuse the weekend player. Judging by the amount of advertising in its early issues, this magazine also appears to be financially healthy.

If a reader wants to read about the PGA Tour's superstars, this magazine is not for him/her. But if s/he plans to be one of those superstars, Golf Tips is a good match.

5-0 out of 5 stars A magazine with guts: true reporting, no corporate agenda
Mother Jones is what Journalism should be: gutsy, honest, no-holds barred investigative reporting.Regardless of your political party, this is one of the last vestages of honest reporting left available to us.
Everything from world news, the envirnment, American politics and current events is researched thoroughly and reported honestly.

A must read for people interested in more news than is available the newspaper, or in Newsweek and Time.If your tired of the pathetic blather that parades as news these days, it's time for Mother Jones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time magazine should be ashamed
Like one commentor said..."The Truth Hurts". It does...If you're happy with your Martha Stewart and Scott Peterson news, do not buy this magazine. If you want the real dirt, left or right wing...this is it. They shoot from the hip.

If you want the truth and not what you will see on the mainstream media, this is the magazine. They are well known to publish stories that the NY Times is afraid to publish. As a matter of fact, most of the writers on Mother Jones and The Nation used to write for the Times. And I just heard last week two stories written by NY Times writers that they're publishers wouldn't print. So guess who did? If you doubt me, look up the 25 Most Censored Stories of 2004 and 2005.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite the Mother!
I just got the first issue in the subscription I sent for about a month ago. They were quick to send me my first issue.

I had never heard of the magazine until they sent me a flyer highlighting what the publication was all about.I was intrigued the minute I opened the flyer, so I subscribed....blindly, I might add.The cost is right [$10] so I figured: *what the heck*!

To me this is an interesting publication.Yes, it is journalism but it is refreshing and gets away from mainstream, *politically correct* gibberish. It takes a behind the scenes look, but doesn't go along with the *beat it into the ground* mentality that I get so sick of.I think it is honest and unbiased and almost reminds me of NPR [National Public Radio] reporting. You'll find a little of everything here.

For instance, one of the articles in the issue I just received is another look at *The American Taliban* and his family, etc.I was amazed since we never heard anything more about the guy after they caught him.Very interesting article!

They also had a story about a group of middle-aged Israeli women who monitor the actions of the soldiers in the West Bank...fascinating, humanistic story.

I was completely intrigued by the story of William Zantzinger and Hattie Carroll and the song that Bob Dylan wrote about them back in 1963.Zantzinger, a white farmer, murdered Carroll, a black maid....and only served 6 months. He still lives in the same area.Wonderful story!!!Of course I ran to play the Dylan song afterward.

All in all, the magazine is one I will look forward to every issue.A really pleasant surprise and a reminder to me that *you learn something new every day* is a motto to live by.I'll be subscribing for a long time. ... Read more

New York magazine operates under the widely (if locally) held belief that New York City is the center of the universe. Savvy, sophisticated, and bursting with East Coast attitude, New York is a stylish source for quick, easy-to-digest weekly entertainment aimed at your inner New Yorker. The focus is on the celebrity scene, dining out, fashion, arts and nightlife, and city news and politics, along with thorough weekly event listings. Great magazine, that is if you are rich and live on the Upper East Side.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag...
Some plusses and minuses with this magazine..First I just LOVE the crossword puzzle. Its alot of fun, usually has a twist of irony but still makes you think but is do-able for most people...unlike say the Times..which I have alot of difficulty with. I love that it is a weekly magazine..When so many magazines have gone to 10, or even 6 issues a year...its just plain nice to get one this often... The topics are current and timly. Some are downright fun in an escapist way... I enjoy the resturant reviews quite a bit.

That said...The products are petty much out of my reach. It is definately for an upscale audience with a high income.I like reading about these things sometimes but I do get a bit weary of reading about a new designer renovating a brownstone, yet again...or what a socailite serves for lunch.I don't feel this is the general focus of the magazine (say like town&country) so I do keep reading it on a semi-regular basis.

Interestingly the times I have subscribed on a more regular basis generally were times I lived away from the area.Nostalgia, I guess.I can't really see the appeal for this magazine to an audience outside the metropolitan are.It seems to me that its a more local, albeit not small, magazine... ...
