3-0 out of 5 stars Once the best...seems to be going downhill
I consider myself one of the original subscribers to BA (I've been a subscriber for around 15 years). Like the other reviewer stated, it really is one of the best, if not the best, baseball magazines you can find. It offers great columnists, nearly unmatched in-depth coverage of prospects and the minor leagues, college, and high school baseball and often includes informative, entertaining feature articles.

That being said, during the past year or so, there's been a noticeable decline in quality of the editing/proof-reading of the magazine. There are often spelling and grammar mistakes now that would never have made it to press in the past. More disturbingly, there's been an incredible increase in the amount of advertisements - and they're placed all over the magazine now instead of towards the back of each issue. This normally wouldn't bother me so much, but the price of the subscription has continued to rise (by about thirty dollars over the past two years). More ads yet higher priced? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

In any event, this magazine is still the premier baseball magazine on the newsstands. I haven't decided if I'm going to re-new my subscription this coming year, though. We'll see if the quality declines any further. I'd recommend sampling a copy at your local newsstand/bookstore (if they carry it) to see if you're willing to pay such a high price for a bi-weekly magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars The baseball benchmark
I didn't refer to Baseball America as such. It was Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty who said it. And who am I to contradict? The best columnists in the game, from Peter Gammons, Tracy Ringolsby and Jayson Stark, to detailed information in ALL of baseball, from the Major Leagues to Japan, stats, scores, and the best and most extensive resource on prospect information, there's not a single serious fan in all of baseball who deserves such a title if is not a Baseball America subscriber. You got to read it if you want to know the stars of tomorrow (being tomorrow 6 years or 2 months). Top 10 prospects from every team till its massive Top 100 list, Baseball America covers it all. I know, I have been subscribed for 2 years now, and I can't think of living without it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars REAL Baseball magazine
If you want updates on last week's games -- read SI or USA Today. If you want slick writing and glossy photos, read SI. If you want to immerse yourself in the culture and history of the game, get this. It is the thinking person's baseball magazine, filled with bios of legends, new slants on stats and trends and interviews with today's stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT ASSET FOR BASEBALL FANS !
A great great asset for a real baseball fan. Very interesting reviews of the past, great games, players, statistics, interviewsand such as things you really love it. I got the subscription and I recommended a lot because they're a serious company behind this marvelous magazine.
I enjoy a lot reading my BD magazine and you'll do !
Let's read it and say PLAY BALL !

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Gift For The Baseball Fan
If you have a friend, relative or other love who just adores baseball and wants to keep up with what's happening in the leagues, here is a great digest sized magazine to get. It's packed to the gills with nothing but pure baseball news and stats. What I like about baseball digest is that it often lists oddball stats, things like "batters who hit over 400 homeruns but also had a high percentage rate of strikeouts", and it keeps up with the more common stats like "All Time Hit's Leaders", "All ERA Leaders", etc. In other words, its a magazine that the majority of baseball fans will enjoy reading. I use to have a subscription and I may just take Amazon up on this offer. I love Baseball and I love this magazine. I use it to help me make decisions on who to invest in when it comes to baseball cards, and it has paid off tremendously!!! So not only can you enjoy keeping up with what's happening in America's Favorite Pastime, but you can find out which pitcher is averaging those 150 strikeouts a year, or who is averaging those 35 homers a year, and if you or someone you know collects baseball cards, you'll know who to buy ahead of time. Now if you do collect cards, please allow me to recommend Beckett Baseball Card Monthly, which, by the way, Amazon.com also has a cool subscription deal on. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

People is the most wildly, consistently successful magazine in history (not to mention the most stolen from lunchrooms) and it's avidly read by half the population of America each year. Why? The people at People know what you want to read: the absolute latest, impossible-to-get dish on celebrity scandals (a $3-million-a-year fact-checking department keeps it real); definitive tribute issues; snappy wrap-ups on the whereabouts of yesterday's stars and the current Most Beautiful People; riveting stories of real folks caught up in the day's biggest news, health, and crime stories; and quick picks and pans on what's up in entertainment. And after years of black-and-white drabness, the mag has fully mastered the art of flashy, full-color photography. --Bob Brandeis ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This magazine has had a huge impact on my life. A lot of people get this magazine because they are looking for lite entertainment or escapism, but if you are looking for inspiration, the pages of People Magazine are loaded with it.

For example, a while back I read a story about Julia Cameron in People which inspired me to investigate what she was all about. That led to my buying "The Artist's Way," then I did the 12 week program, and since then have become a professional house painter making twice the salary that I used to make! All because I read about Julia in PEOPLE!

Another great example is Robert Kyosaki -- I read a story about him which talked about his Rich Dad book, which I immediately went out and DEVOURED in one day. Then I got his tapes, I drove around listening to those tapes in my car for months. Just a few months later, I bought my first house! My own personal American Dream story, just because I was reading People Magazine.

Then I read a story about a new system for increasing passion for couples through sexual mastery. I got a copy of the "New Sex Now" dvd right here on amazon, and after watching it one time, suddenly my lovelife went from average to AMAZING! My girlfriend and I experienced intimacy that we had never known before, and passion that was profound. Now, we're married and living a life of unexpected closeness and fulfillment. I connected with the love of my life because of an article I read in People Magazine.

Now I'm not saying that there's not a lot of fun fluff and mental popcorn for people who want that from a magazine, but if you are looking to improve yourself and get more out of life, People Magazine has plenty of grist for the mill, and on every page provides opportunities for everyone to think and dream bigger. Now that is the mark of a truly awesome magazine!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough people
To my mind, a magazine called "People" should have more people in it. Since I began my subscription in 1978, I've uncovered a detectable decline in the number of people appearing in the so called "People" magazine. For the most part, the decline has been pretty steady. 1986, however, was a notable year, as the number of pictures of people in People declined by 64%. This same year saw an increase in dog photos by roughly 3%. It was at this point that I wrote to the editors suggesting a name change for the magazine, or else keep the ratio of dogs to people reasonable. Or else feel my wrath. And by wrath I mean cancelled subscription. Much to my chagrin, they called my bluff and cancelled my subscription for me, so it's fortunate that I had another subscription coming to my house under a pseudonym. What is that pseudonym, you ask? Johnny Depp. And that pseudonym is what has gotten me into the annual People Magazine Christmas party every year since. And each year, as I stand on my hind legs next to the punchbowl, talking with a gorgeous starlet, I laugh and laugh, because while the editors of the magazine are all cornered by drunken John Lovitz, I am enjoying every dog and man's dream, and it feels as though the night will never end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love People magazine
People is the best magazine that I have ever read. I subscribe to it and it comes on time every week, never damaged, like other magazines. I like the stories, pictures and the crossword puzzles. I also like the fact that it's not all about Hollywood. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Want to know if your favorite artist has gone platinum yet, or what the hot albums are on the Internet? Then join the ranks of people who for years have been turning to Billboard for the inside scoop on the music industry. The weekly offers thorough news coverage, scads of charts (personally, we're partial to the Billboard Top 200 U.S. albums and Heatseekers countdowns), artist profiles, upcoming album release dates, and so much more we'd need to draw a couple of breaths to list it all. Billboard isn't afraid to push buttons, either, as they often turn to execs and insiders to pen biting op-ed pieces on the issues du jour--from MP3 file sharing to the effects of record company shakeups. To round out their already considerable offering, Billboard also provides the lowdown on the video and home entertainment industries. So if you want to know who's currently No. 1, and who's ready to climb the charts, turn to Billboard. --Arno Kazarian ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stll the best Music Magazine
This mag has everything and is vastly under rated this is the only mag that counts in music and plus they don't hate like the rolling stone magazine and every article has interest plus they also go to the Bussiness end of it.However I am mad they have cut down the number charts on here they need more.
    Articles 10 Charts 10 Specials 10 Enjoyable 10 Lasting 10
Overall this is a great magazine it may be the best around

4-0 out of 5 stars For Anyone Interested In The Recording Industry
Read it myself back in the 70's and 80's, and pick it up from time to time today. First and foremost, it is a magazine dedicated to keeping up with the business side of music. It often goes into detail about what artists are up to, how much money they have made or lost, and what the current trends in music are. You know the Top 40? Well actually the Top 40 is a partial list from the Hot 100. There is also a Hot CD chart and more. The magazine covers Rock, Country, R&B, Rap, Gospel, and a host of other music styles. There's always lots of colorful photos (many of which are suitable for framing), and bunches of informative and entertaining reading. What I've always liked about Billboard is, of course, the charts. They let you know where a certain CD or song is currently ranked, as well as where it was last week. It also denotes if its went Gold or Platinum. The huge magazine is also a weekly publication. If you like keeping up with what's hot in music, Billboard is the magazine for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not for the general reader
Very expensive, and of interest only to someone working in the industry. Who cares about those multi-page listings of top 20 this and top ten that... I don't even know most of the artists covered there, neither do I care to know.

Articles are OK, but again, not for the general reader. It is a business-oriented magazine, there's hardly anything art-related in it, btw. But, if you enjoy reading full-page self-congratulatory adverts by law firms exuding fake happiness about helping to arrange this or that deal, this mag's for you. I quit reading it, even checking it out, after I got oh, probably like three issues of it. I'm not sure why Amazon markets it to the public at large, there's absolutely nothing of interest in the publication to the mass reader. It's a trade publication, kind of like "Embedded Systems", or "Government Foreclosures". So, for a specialist, it's probably a five; for Joe Sixpack - no stars. Since I can't give multiple ratings here, it's a three. ... Read more

Founder and publisher Jann S. Wenner's brainchild remains the standard by which rock & roll magazines are measured, though even its most fervent boosters would concede there've been some growing pains for RS as it's strived to remain relevant through the decades. The erstwhile baby-boomer bible mixes fleshy covers of today's alluring celebs with coverage of graying rockers from the magazine's heyday. In addition to celebrity interviews, stalwart features such as CD reviews and Random Notes (the mag's long-running gossip section) provide familiar reading for older readers, as does the publication's superior political and cultural coverage. But the bulk of Rolling Stone's features are aimed at the younger pop-culture set. --Steven Stolder ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Corporate magazines still suck
Rolling Stone hasn't been a credible music journal for at least 15 years, and that's being extremely kind.Rather they are a marketing outlet for the corporate sponsors of whatever music is being pushed at the moment. That's of course when they deign to write about music at all. There are far too many politically oriented articles from an upper middle class armchair liberal point of view to catagorize Rolling Stone as strictly a music magazine. And let's not mention the extremely annoying fashion layouts.RS is more of a lifestyle journal that panders to white and mostly liberal middle class tastes and culture.I don't care about the political bent of the magazine so much as I care about the pop garbage that Rolling Stone writes about. They almost without exception shill for the flavor of the month rather than write any responsible criticism.Occasionally the articles are informative, but for the most part Rolling Stone is an irrelevant device to generate advertising dollars.

1-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
Isn't it amazing that the cost of a Rolling Stone subscription is barely enough to cover the cost of postage? The magazine is mostly advertisements, and the rest of it isn't worth reading.I grew up on Rolling Stone, but have realized that if I want a decent music review about music I care about, I'll go to pitchforkmedia.com.Even SPIN is better than this crap.

1-0 out of 5 stars RS: "Music Experts" who don't know CRAP about music.
Anyone who would consider putting a list of the 100 Greatest Artists ever without Pink Floyd, Queen, or Metallica has no knowledge of music whatsoever.

Also who the hell would put Kurt Cobain and Jack White on a list of the 100 greatest guitarists ever above Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads? Also not to mention that they didn't even include Slash or Malmsteem on the list.

This magazine makes me sick to the stomach. Basically all they do is praise artists who have good lyrics but crappy music, like Bob Dylan. They also need to get over their constant worship of U2, because even when they put out those 2 awful albums 'Zooropa' and 'Pop', they did nothing but praise them for their over-produced experimental crap.

And what can we say about their devotion towards 'The White Stripes' and 'The Strokes' and hail them as the BEST NEW THING, while we've been waiting for years for these people to make albums worth their praise. Yet, Rolling Stone rather ignores great new artists like Muse, Franz Ferdinand, and Keane.

I know you guys are probably potheads, but perhaps you should consider putting the hash pipe to the side and think about what you write because it's hurting the REAL ARTISTS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I so look forward to each issue
I've had an ongoing subscription to Vanity Fair for about 10 years. It is the one magazine subscription that I won't let expire.I really love it,especially Dominick Dunne's articles and the rabid anti- Bush stance of the entire editorial staff. Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll... with a Better Vocabulary
I've been an avid reader of Vanity Fair since first subscribing at age 16. How else would I know the goings-on of people like Jocelyn Wildenstein and Princesses Marie-Chantal, Pia, and Alexandra (aka The Miller Sisters)?

Vanity Fair consistently provides a well-balanced volume of investigative reports, society gossip, movers-and-shakers features, and luscious photography. If you care to know the who's who of everything upper-crust -- philanthropy, fine dining, theater and the arts, film, fashion -- Vanity Fair is the magazine to treasure. The photography alone is reason enough to subscribe: they are so masterfully styled and intricately decorated, images from ten years ago still are emblazoned in my (nutty-professor-forgetful) mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated!!!
This is one magazine in the so-called "general" category (non political and business oriented) magazine that I always find intriguing to read. This is New Yorker meets Vogue.

The articles are thought-provoking but written in a light-hearted manner. Some articles are worthy of the Pulitzer Prize. Yes, the magazine embraces 'superficiality'... but then you should know that by now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photographs with the added bonus of good writing
I received National Geographic as a gift because I was getting too old for Ranger Rick. (Quite the jump, I must add).I read my first issue and immediately wanted more.

The pictures, as many have said, are always stunning, and the writing is spectacular.Obviously, such a world-renowned magazine must be spectacular.

My only complaint is that it takes so long to read that, with my busy schedule, I don't ever have time to read anything else. They tend to pile up, but I read them all eventually- I can't bear the thought of just putting an unread issue straight into the rack with the read ones.It really is fantastic and makes a great Bar or Bat Mitzvah gift.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic publication despite its liberal slant
Now now! Before you get mad at me for my "liberal slant" comment in the title of this review, let me remind you that I also said it's "a fantastic publication.":-) No matter what your political stance on hot button issues such as global warming and oil, you have to admit that National Geographic takes a liberal stance. Is that good or bad?Entirely up to you to decide. But to their credit, they do a VERY fair job, within the articles, of explaining and examining ALL aspects and points of view.

I subscribed because like most of us, I've always been a fan of their photographs, but as they began to arrive in the mail I found myself poring over each and every page, reading every issue from cover to cover.I've learned so many wonderful things about cultures and people I will never get a chance to see in real life, and I've educated myself on issues that otherwise would remain a mystery.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of having a subscription is the inserts that come in almost every issue. My all time favorite thus far has been a composite map of the entire world at night, showing natural gas vents, wild fires, and city lights across the globe.Fascinating!

For the almost embarrassingly low price of $49.00 a year I am more educated, informed, and inspired then I was before I subscribed.

5-0 out of 5 stars It does not get better
This is the best ever magazine in all fields....though they are getting mean nowadays and reducing the number of pages per issue!!! It is really a great reading from cover to cover...everybody must get it!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I canceled mine too!
Its not that great of a magazine - articles are not interesting, generally speaking - plus the whole made up story, resulting in the killing of 17 people. I canceled my subscription (I had a 5 year) and got my check back of $108. Goodbye Weeknews... I mean Newsweek...

1-0 out of 5 stars An anti-american liberal elite publication
The people who publish this magazine should be in jail. The
elite liberals behind this magazine have admitted to publishing
false stories about our troops in cuba doing bad things to
arab books. The editors (to the top) need
to go in the same way that all the people at CBS had to go when
they published false stories about our president and tried to
throw the election to the liberals.

The important mission of bringing freedom and american values
to afghanistan is one we cannot allow anti-american liberal
publications to sabotage.Authors like David Horowitz have
explained how liberals are the silent footsoldiers of terror
in partnership with the terrorists (see his book: unholy
allance: radical islam and the american left). The connections
between the liberal elite media and the american left are
    already well known.

The only good thing to come out of all this is that afghanistan
showed how far they have come in learning freedom. The
terrorists attempted to take over the government and they were
stopped in their tracks by Afghans who love their country and
    love freedom.

This needs to be investigated by congress and the justice
department. Our leaders need to dig into the connections
between the elite media, liberal front organizations and
the terrorists in afghanistan. The propoganda in newsweek
and the attempt to overthrow freedom in Afghanistan were far
too well coordinated to be coincidence.

Freedom of the press is exatly that:freedom. Our constitution
and founding fathers never intended for freedom to turn into
a government-backed right to lie in a magazine about US troops
and to give aid to the enemies of freedom in afghanistan. Our
leaders must stop this treasonous nonsense now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but still among the best PC magazines
PC Magazine is the largest, most expensive magazine of its kind, but it is well worth the price. I used to have a subscription and found its detailed product reviews helpful in making decisions about purchasing PCs, hardware peripherals and software. These reviews are among the most extensive I've come across in computer magazines. It is not a magazine for those who are technically illiterate, since its intended audience seems to be those who might call themselves "techno geeks". And it is not a magazine - like Wired, for example - that seems interested in covering the future of PC computing. Nevertheless, it is a fine magazine well worth its subscription price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but...
PC Magazine has a lot of good reviews, offers many helpful tips, and covers breaking technology. It's targeted a little more towards the "what will be" area of computing as opposed to PC World, which is very product-centered.

I enjoy this magazine, and am a new subcriber, but if forced to choose only one, I'd take PC World over this mag.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of stuff, but lots of junk as well
I'm old enough to remember the first issues of PC Magazine. Those were the days when PC was still a novelty and I religiously read every word printed in PC Mag in order to "hack" my PCs (which cost over $2000 with *no* hard drive!).Over the years it became a thick magazine packed with reviews and tips on how to get the last bit of performance out of DOS.

Then a few years ago the founding editor retired and PC Mag's parent company was taken over by a Korean company called Softbank. The magazine (and its sister publications including PC Week) became rather stale and conservative.Every issue became totally predictable, and the number of reviews dropped, probably a victim of its cost-conscious Korean bosses. To this day, PC Mag is an overall solid magazine that you can't get excited about. The editorials all sound the same (conservatively futuristic with no clear viewpoints), the reviews shallow and unreliable, and the Internet sections neither serious nor fun-to-read.The back pages, devoted to "after hours," are close to being useless.

PC Mag does have a decent website; just don't try to use its useless search function. This is a magazine you can read in the library, not something worth paying for.For something that can probably arouse your passion in PC computing, try "Maximum PC" magazine. ... Read more

Two years ago I was 285 lbs.At 5'8", that was morbidly overweight as my doctor would write on his checklist of me.
I made a conscious decision to change myself.I read Men's Health and followed the articles' suggestions.I followed the eating lifestyle they suggested.I exercised using various exercise they suggested.

Eventually, I bought the "Book of Muscle" they also published.
Today I am 160lbs and fit.Playing baseball, playing with my kids.
Men's Health is filled with great articles about fitness, health, healthy eating, exercise, sex, etc...I only gave it four stars since there is generally a good portion of fluff in there that I don't read. For example, I really don't care to know what drinks attract women at a bar.But if you pass over the fluff and read the substance, and actually DO some of the things they suggest, you can look like the guy on the cover.

Like anything else in life, nothing is free, hard work and dedication are required.

2-0 out of 5 stars Heath Club
Men's Health magazine would be a great publication if it was a bit more practical in the information that it distributes. A majority of the articles and columns "seem to assume" that most of its readership already lead active, healthy lifestyles. Most men (myself included) do not, but are seeking practical advice. Believe it or not, I get more help reading an issue of Maxim or Esquire, than I did with my Men's Health subscription. The magazine fills a niche I suppose, but if you already look like those photographed in any given issue, then you don't need to read it. Impracticle if you ask me, Just once, I'd like to have felt as though it was targeted to average guys like me and my pals. Reading this publication does nothing to motivate me to improve my life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Guide For Health, Fitness, Fashion and Lifestyle
MEN'S HEALTH would have to be my favourite fitness magazine. The magazine offers articles on health, diet, lifestyle, stress management... (Everything is pretty much covered by this magazine, including fashion and sex life management).

A magazine that targets both the beginner and the advanced reader. ... Read more

This is just not that good. I maybe buy one issue a year the Top 100 Babes yeah that one is good. I buy FHM maybe twice a year. FHM to me seems more fresh and has better looking women and has better articles by the way.I am 20 and I could not imagine a person my age going out and buying more then 2 copies of Maxim because there are about 10 playboy mags a month about the same amount for Penthouse and even a few for Perfect 10. I was one of those little twirps that liked Maxim when I was 16 but now I get some playboy. If you a college man who buys this crap I will buy you a coppy of Penthouse instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars funny and cool
Maxim's appeal as seen by number of female reader's and reviewers crosses gender borders. A highly entertaining read with honest, yet funny reviews, interesting interviews, insightful, articulate articles, jokes, "stuff" and much more. It is in short a magazine I would love to write for one day, as the contributers' writing makes it obvious they really enjoy their jobs one more reason to like reading it. One more thing the techniques described for sexual losers to satisfy a woman works!:) and also recommend Sex and the perfect lover by Mabel Iam

5-0 out of 5 stars More than I expected.
This was a huge surprise for me.
All my friends were saying how cool this mag was, so I got it.
    Wow!
It is loaded with hot pics of super-hot chyks...
And there are very funny jokes...
And cool info about cars and other gadgets I want...
And even some articles and advise about sex that are great...
Reading this mag I discovered the DVD "New Sex Now" which
I have used to blow the minds of half the hotties in my dorm...
They are all saying I'm a sex-god now, thanks to Maxim. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Really fallen off.....
I have been reading this mag off and on for the past 20 years. As other reviews have said, I think I am just reading the same tired old stuff from three or four issues ago."Big Guns!""Huge Chest!""Massive Gains!"These seem to be the ones you'll see featured about every other month in here.As for adds?Don't get me started on adds! When half of your magazine is adds, it spells trouble. Not only that, they need to specify to people who may not already know, "This mag's training tips are for people who do not work for a living and can spend 6-8 hours a day in the gym, eat 8-10 meals a day and spend MASSIVE amounts of cash on supplements."In other words, people with no real responsibilities other than taking care of their physiques (Which as far as jobs go, that's a great one to have). I teach all day and into the night, literally, for me to eat and train like they require, I'd have to quit my day job, sell my kids into slavery, and become a homeless person. In which case I'd have no money to have a gym membership.I think you get the idea.

On the positive side, the photos are awe-inspiring.Also, to be realistic, it's a mag that has been around for decades upon decades. How many different ways can you say, "Lift heavy, eat like a horse, and train like you have no other responsibilities in life"? It just becomes repetitive any way you slice it.My recommendation would be to buy an issue or two every decade or so.Buy January's "BIG GUNS" issue, and then February's "HUGE CHEST".Then wait a decade and repeat.

    Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MAGIZINE!!!!!!!!!
I love this magizine and I have read every issue. It has great fitness tips for you whole body.I would definately recomend this magizine to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best magazine I have come across
What's bad: Too many adds, HOWEVER, there is always typed in letters at the top or the bottom of the add whether it is an advertisement or a part of the "real" Muscle & Fitness magazine, so they are easy to scan by, if you're not looking to buy something.

What's good: Just about everything else. Not every article is exceptional, but I find that there are always at least 2 or 3 articles that are just that. Just reading about these athletes extraordinary life is rewarding, and the information in the magazine is genuinely beneficial. Currently I am struggling to take in 6 meals a day, and every time I read an article, this or that bodybuilder tells me, that HE only started making serious gains when he got to 6 meals a day. So I keep my head down, and try and stick with it, even when it is hard.

The point is, this magazine is GENUINELY INSPIRING, the information on training (go heavy and maintain tension in the working muscle throughout the motion + squeeze at top) and nutrition (eat many high-quality calories, lots of protein) is ALWAYS dead-on, and when you read about the athletes personal life, there is almost always something inspiring to gain from it (as the magazine has 'solid core values' as a must when choosing athletes for the magazine). For me, it is the perfect magazine, on building muscle, and doing so in a healthy fashion.

I highly recommend picking up a copy somewhere (do read past the adds, some are cleverly camouflaged) and see for yourself.

Sincerely, Jesper Bech, Denmark. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No other weekly like it
This is, plainly put, the best news periodical out there.Sure, others can "report" what's happening in the world, but The Economist includes analysis and puts events in proper perspective to provide the much sought after "why?".Upon hearing of the magazine, the title seemed to suggest a dry, tough read about finance and economics. Not so at all. It's sort of like an international, intelligent version of Time or Newsweek, with a more objective and rational feel. It's a surprisingly easy read as well, with a great informal British style, infused with wit throughout yet always smart and informative.Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're going to read only one news periodical . . .
The Economist should be it.It is the most thorough single news periodical out there, period.Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Really Is That Good
Read one Economist article, and you'll know why it's considered in a league of its own, and why everyone from business leaders to Prime Ministers to regular people like you and me love it so much.

One of the best attributes the Economist possesses is its ability to present news and analysis on an unsurpassed intellectual level, while at the same time being very much down to earth, at times even getting comical commentary in. I have never once read an article where I sensed bias. I'm very good at detecting bias, and even when it perhaps is bias I'm inclined with, it ruins the legitimacy for me. You'll notice they do not attribute articles to specific authors. This is because the magazine wants each article to represent the Economist as a whole, and not a particular person. It's a refreshing formula, in an age where some writers feel the need to be long winded and rush to grab individual attention at every turn.

The Economist has been around for 150+ years for good reason. It holds incredible integrity, and it doesn't cater to anyone.

For international news and perspective in particular, I have yet to find a weekly publication on the Economist's level for the mere reason there are none. I'm a student in International Affairs, and the insight and rationality found in the pages devoted to the world, 1/3 of each issue in fact, is the crowning jewel of the magazine. That's in addition to its coverage on business, finance, technology, arts and books. It's truly a complete package.

You probably couldn't do anything better to improve your mind and worldview with a little over $100 than to buy an Economist subscription. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Como venezolano, quiero mejor
I am getting tired of English language magazines slapping "en espanol" on to their titles and thinking they have created una revista latina. It's really not that hard to put in the extra effort with a Spanish dictionary and add that little bit of authenticity.Let's say it all together now: "LA SALUD DE HOMBRES."There.Was that so hard?

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideas on how to improve yourself
Many people will find this magazine shallow, but I don't really believe them. I am reading it non stop since the last semester, and I have to recognize it's well-written, it has great articles on health issues so guys can understand it; for example, there was a story on heart disease which was very compelling and informative. You will find exercises there if you want to pump up, I have been using them for a while and mixing them up as a routine I can follow and I'm pleased for the results; it's a nice first step if you're a beginner but then you'll have to take it a little forward. It has a simple, no-nonsense and humorous attitude which makes it even more enjoyable to read. I think it's good for your money's worth. just don't take the relationships articles way too seriously (by the way, they're NOT intended to be taken seriously) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MUY CALIENTE
THE ONLY DIFERENCE BETWEEN THE ENGLISH VERSION AND SPANISH, IS THE THE GIRLS ON THE SPANISH ISSUES ARE HOTTER THAN THE ONES IN ENGLISH, BUT THE ARTICLES ON THE ONE IN ENGLISH ARE MORE SASSY AND FUN, I HAVE A FEW CO-WORKERS THAT JUST LOVE THE HISPANIC WOMEN, AND I AGREE WITH THEM,SPECIALY IF YOU LOOK AT BARBARA KARI FROM PARAGUAY, SHE IS A HOTTIE,AND WHO COULD FORGET THE ISSUE WITH SOFIA VERGARA, SHE IS A BOMB.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get the English Version
The only reason someone would prefer this version is because you have no idea of what is English. They have almost all the articles you can get in the english version, but about 3 or 4 months later. The translation loses a lot of the sence and spice you get in english. And it is more expensive too!..

3-0 out of 5 stars Average Magazine
This magazine is so so.I like it because of it's size.It fits into the elliptical when I work out.The magazine also available in large print for those with bad eyes. The articles are okay.I mostly read this magazine for the humor sections. And the cartoon satire at the back.

1-0 out of 5 stars Harasses subscribers and their families even after death
My grandmother died seven months ago, and we still get postings marked "BILL" that are requests for renewal. Even after numerous notifications of her death and requests for the mailings to stop, we still receive these fraudulent and offensive "bills."Their customer service representatives patronized and ridiculed my mother, who was significantly ill when she called them to request that they stop sending these mailings. It's tragic, debased, and offensive when Readers Digest preys on senior citizens.

4-0 out of 5 stars Conservative Family Magazine
"Reader's Digest" has been my favorite general interest magazine for decades. The articles cover a wide array of topics and are either condensed from an original article in another magazine or are written in a condensed form specifically for the magazine. Each issue carries a portion of a non-fiction book written in such a way as to be an article or story and yet give you a flavor of the book itself.

The variety of articles is impressive. Generally there are articles monthly on health and family. Within health are articles on medicine and medical advances, including articles about medical risks. The magazine now has several monthly portions devoted to families and marriage. There are also articles on finances and the economy, international affairs, travel, ecology, science, and a goodly portion of humor.

In more recent years the magazine has added a letters to the editor section and an "Ask Laskas" section where you may ask questions regarding a large variety of subjects.

"Reader's Digest" excels in two areas that are almost opposite to each other. "Reader's Digest" frequently has articles pointing out the incredible behavior of people and the government in articles such as "That's Outrageous." Articles have detailed judges who have behaved in an inappropriate manner, including actions that appear to a lay person to be incompetent, people who deliberately manipulate programs such as Medicare, and contractors who mis-bill for their services or products. These articles have the potential to stun you with the arrogance of some people's behavior. On the opposite end of the spectrum, "Reader's Digest" also focuses on "Everyday Heroes." In this section you may read about people doing the right thing in a variety of circumstances, from saving lives to just making someone's life better. Beyond the regular "Everyday Heroes" section of the magazine are often other articles and stories that highlight people who help others in a variety of ways, often ways that you would never hear from other sources.

Moving into the modern age, "Reader's Digest" also has its own web site, www.rd.com that expands the offerings of the magazine. The web site offers nearly as much value as the magazine itself.

"Reader's Digest" has always several sections of humor, including "Life in these United States," "All in a Day's Work," and "Humor in Uniform." The jokes are generally family friendly, and while many of them will only provoke a smile, a few approach hilarity. Sprinkled throughout the magazine are other jokes at the end of articles. Some are fact based, such as announcements from a variety of organizational bulletins or advertisements that say something other than was originally intended.

The magazine balances its humor portions with mind-challenging puzzles. Each month the magazine provides words to see whether you know their definition in "Word Power." Usually the magazine will also have at least one other word puzzle elsewhere to stretch your mind.

As a magazine for general interest with a focus on family, "Reader's Digest" is an excellent fit. Because of its focus on the family and relatively traditional family values, the magazine reads as a conservative magazine. This magazine rarely, if ever, endorses a controversial position economically or politically, keeping to the right of the middle-of-the-road.

If you find your time to read is limited, and yet want exposure to a variety of subjects and issues, "Reader's Digest" is an excellent magazine. It makes an excellent springboard into a search for more information on a variety of subjects, including other viewpoints to contrast with that of the magazine. Because "Reader's Digest's" articles are brief, expect that for areas of particular interest you will want to seek additional information from other sources. ... Read more
