1-0 out of 5 stars Not What They Claim
I very happily joined Cooking Club of America, and began receiving this magazine quite a while ago.At first, it did appear that the club offered so much to its subscribers, but as time wore on, I could see that it was all just marketing.

Yes, I did have the opportunity to try out two different products.Yes, a lot of the information in the magazine was good.I even managed to get one of my recipes published in their publication.

My major reason for giving this magazine such a low score was because they have harrassed me for months with telemarketing phone calls trying to get me to be a Lifetime Member. When I tell them I am not interested, they have a "new" deal for me.When I still tell them I am not interested, they have yet another deal. The calls were continual, as my Caller ID showed me.

Also, approximately 3 months after you renew your own subscription, they start mailing you about how you should get the next year now...to keep club costs down.An idea may be to NOT contact members so soon after they just paid their subscriptions.

Save your money on this one and try Fine Cooking or Cook's Illustrated. Not only do these magazines provide better recipes, more professional tips, they also do not call you daily to get your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Title
The magazine is very nice with color pictures and recipes that look okay, but that ingredients are either rare or expensive, the magazine is too fancy, and it's hard to find what the recipe is like. They don't put a review, you have to tell for yourself. And plus if it doesn't have a picture, you have to guess what's in it. I rate it one star. I'd rate it a half star if there was such thing, but there isn't. I wouldn't buy this magazine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Simple Magazines
I let this one go it reminded me to much of Cuisine Magazine and I already had that one so there was no need for the two. The recipes are real simple and not very complicated at all that was a PLUS and a break from all those other Magazines I subscribed to.

It's format is very good for the person that doesn't want to get bogged down in the ads or the product information in the back of the Magazine. The Magazine is thin so it doesn't take up much space and features step-by-step pictures.

    5-0 out of 5 stars surprisingly un-sugary
I've sampled about every home-decor mag out there, and Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion is now on my short list of staples (Elle Decor, Met Home, House & Garden being the others). My taste runs to Hollywood Retro--a little bit sexy, citified and uncluttered, with a dash of humor--and makes use of a lot of thrift-store finds I've customized to the space. Like an earlier reviewer, I'm an unlikely candidate for ME paraphenelia, but her magazine is loaded with clever inspiration, and you won't suffer an overdose of sweetness. I especially like her concentration on the homes and work of independent artists ... and attention to animal causes, which are close to my heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Magazine EVER!!
I truly do my happy dance when I go to the mailbox and find Mary's Home Companion Magazine. Then I spend at least two hours thoroughly delighted as I read it from cover to cover, and I can't wait till the next one.I, too have every issue since 1996 and I often go back and look at some of the great ideas presented over the years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great discovery at garage sale!
I came acrossed an older stack of this magazine at a garage sale for $1.00. I have never spent such good money, not only have I poured over every magazine at least twice, but everyone that has been to my home and picks one up, begs to take them home with them. I have now subscribed, and plan on saving every one indefinitley. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the gardener and herb enthusiast
This magazine is focused mainly on offering information about herbs in their gardening and food aspects. This is a nice change from the many books to be found concerning the medicinal aspects of herbs.I enjoy growing herbs for spices along with the medicinal purposes, so this has been a valuable resource. One feature in this magazine that I have really valued is the section offering information on regional herb festivals and other organized events.I also particularly like the featured herb articles-- especially the one on lavender. There are many, many interesting advertisements as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Each issue has various herbal themes
Her Companion is focused on the raising and use of herbs. There are different magazines that focus on different aspects of herbs. This one mostly covers herbs a food and food supplements. The pictures are glossy and there are many slick ads for commercial herbs and items as containers for bottling your own. I have actually used this subscription to help design and build a small raised garden in the back yard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Super Informative for the Herb Gardener
This is a super magazine for the beginning to advanced
herb gardener with the focus being on gardening and growing
herbs, as well as their culinary and craft oriented usages.
Less emphasis is placed on the new agey / medicinal usages
although basic medical uses are sometimes covered. In my opinion
this is one of the best, if not the best, herb mags available
now. I have learned many gardening tips and ideas through the
Herb Companion and recommend it wholeheartedly. ... Read more
