2-0 out of 5 stars Cease Publication
I just received the last Disney Magazine. Included with the magazine was a notice about stopping publication with the Summer 2005 issue. This was a good magazine since it offered a preview of upcoming attractions and events.

I am not happy they are stopping publication. The two other magazines they offered do not target adults that are simply interested in Disney.

    3-0 out of 5 stars Disney(world) Magazine
I agree with the others here who have pointed out that this is truly a magazine about Disneyworld. The entire point of the magazine seems to be to encourage the reader to visit the Orlando half of the American Disney Empire.I have rarely seen an article on the real Disneyland.I have been very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I have been receiving the Disney Magazine for the past three years.I absolutely love it.I look forward to every issue. I read it from cover to cover at least five time, but my favorites are the hidden pics and the calendar of events as to what is going on when and where at the theme parks.I also love when there are articles from behind the scenes at the theme parks.I have been a huge fan of Disney since I was a child.Having a subscription to this magazine is just one more way I can enjoy Disney. So thank you for giving me this opportunity to say thank you. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Like New York Magazine, not the New Yorker
Like so many magazines that have decided to pursue the relatively affluent core of their subscription, Chicago magazine is great if you want to read a magazine to figure out what to buy. It's got lots of articles that are relevant to you if you're upwardly mobile, either live in the suburbs or have a car to get there, and are interested in the latest trends in entertainment and shopping.
That said, it's just not what I look for in a magazine.I've read many issues and while the writing is pretty good, I've never found an article that I thought was worth saving, or even much that told me something I didn't know about Chicago, and I've only lived here a few years.Don't be fooled by the title -- this magazine is fine for what it is, but it doesn't even come close to covering Chicago.

1-0 out of 5 stars Promotes The National Image of Tribune Liberal Bias
The magazine hit a new low recently but is in lockstep with the media bias demomstrated so wonderfully by the Chicago Tribune.
The story tracking a particular pistols travel from manufacturer
to the streets of Chicago exhibit the typical reporters attempt
to shape public opinion to their viewpoint. Stories such as these
are shining examples of how America's public is slowly brainwashed into believing what the reporters portray in a one sided story. America, the firearm issue is the biggest cover-up since the JFK assassination. If you disbelieve what I've just stated your already brainwashed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Chicagoan no longer looking to Chicago Magazine
Chicago magazine was once a wonderful resource to me as a Chicagoan...but not now.Hip, savy and younger (25-40) is no longer the target audience. For over two years this magazine was my main resource for learning about, events, restaraunts, clubs, openings. Now, this magazine is just a glorified version of the Chicago Tribune...it's owners.both the magazine and the paper will have the same information for "hot new clubs", "great eats", 10 things to do under $40.It's a rip off for those of us that live here and those traveling here. But even worse it tends to focus on the suburbs. If Chicago wasn't a thriving, wonderful city...no one would want to live here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good for ageing corner blasters
For ageing corner blasters like myself(53) who have slowed a bit and often ride two up on longish trips, "Rider" is an excellent magazine. It's new bike tests are reliable and low on hype. It's columnists often muse about the riding experience and its relation to our broader lives. It has plenty of "how to" features and my two decade collection of tours and destinations featured in "Rider" is keeping me pleasantly busy in retirement.A good down to earth, mature, magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites?
Largely geared towards the rider attracted to the larger bikes capable of logging lots of miles. Seems to feature a smattering of sport bikes, sport-tourers as well as touring rigs, the larger touring cruisers and liter sized open-bikes. The commentary is often based on longer rides, as well as long-term tests, and they occasionally dig up stuff on the classic bikes of the 50-70s, for those senior riders who want a trip down memory lane. They do not always have the most technical of write-ups, but feature good useful information for the enthusiast who wants to keep abreast of what's happening... Not a squid or scene mag.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Touring / Sport-Touring Readers
This magazine is for people that like to combine motorcycles with travel. It's for guys/gals that ride bikes to enjoy new places, find new twisties, and just plain put mileage on their machines.Flip through the pages and you don't see Super Sport/Nitro or V-Twin Ultra-Customs with zero miles on the odometer.Writers don't really care whether a bike does a 11 second quarter mile (don't get me wrong, more HP is better than less!).What you do get are stories about weekend and week-long rides in places like the Grand Canyon, the Pyrenee Mountains, or the Dakotas.Bike reviews are mostly on machines like the BMW K1200 GT (a sport tourer) or Yamaha Silverado (cruiser with bags/windshield).Columnists concentrate on riding skills, what to pack for the road, and gadgets that can make riding more fun. It's practical and entertaining info. It's my personal favorite magazine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A magazine with guts: true reporting, no corporate agenda
Mother Jones is what Journalism should be: gutsy, honest, no-holds barred investigative reporting.Regardless of your political party, this is one of the last vestages of honest reporting left available to us.
Everything from world news, the envirnment, American politics and current events is researched thoroughly and reported honestly.

A must read for people interested in more news than is available the newspaper, or in Newsweek and Time.If your tired of the pathetic blather that parades as news these days, it's time for Mother Jones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time magazine should be ashamed
Like one commentor said..."The Truth Hurts". It does...If you're happy with your Martha Stewart and Scott Peterson news, do not buy this magazine. If you want the real dirt, left or right wing...this is it. They shoot from the hip.

If you want the truth and not what you will see on the mainstream media, this is the magazine. They are well known to publish stories that the NY Times is afraid to publish. As a matter of fact, most of the writers on Mother Jones and The Nation used to write for the Times. And I just heard last week two stories written by NY Times writers that they're publishers wouldn't print. So guess who did? If you doubt me, look up the 25 Most Censored Stories of 2004 and 2005.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite the Mother!
I just got the first issue in the subscription I sent for about a month ago. They were quick to send me my first issue.

I had never heard of the magazine until they sent me a flyer highlighting what the publication was all about.I was intrigued the minute I opened the flyer, so I subscribed....blindly, I might add.The cost is right [$10] so I figured: *what the heck*!

To me this is an interesting publication.Yes, it is journalism but it is refreshing and gets away from mainstream, *politically correct* gibberish. It takes a behind the scenes look, but doesn't go along with the *beat it into the ground* mentality that I get so sick of.I think it is honest and unbiased and almost reminds me of NPR [National Public Radio] reporting. You'll find a little of everything here.

For instance, one of the articles in the issue I just received is another look at *The American Taliban* and his family, etc.I was amazed since we never heard anything more about the guy after they caught him.Very interesting article!

They also had a story about a group of middle-aged Israeli women who monitor the actions of the soldiers in the West Bank...fascinating, humanistic story.

I was completely intrigued by the story of William Zantzinger and Hattie Carroll and the song that Bob Dylan wrote about them back in 1963.Zantzinger, a white farmer, murdered Carroll, a black maid....and only served 6 months. He still lives in the same area.Wonderful story!!!Of course I ran to play the Dylan song afterward.

All in all, the magazine is one I will look forward to every issue.A really pleasant surprise and a reminder to me that *you learn something new every day* is a motto to live by.I'll be subscribing for a long time. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

If you want a sophisticated wedding, but you don't necessarily have the Martha Stewart instincts to sew your own ring-bearer pillows, Modern Bride will help you plan an elegant day nonetheless. The many style tips for the bride (from gowns to lingerie to makeup and hair), ideas on flowers and favors, accounts of real weddings, registry information, and honeymoon suggestions are bound to stir your imagination. Also included is postceremony advice on topics such as finance and sex. This is not the magazine to help you with the nitty-gritty--there are no monthly planning calendars or details on how to find the perfect reception hall or photographer--but it will give you great ideas for making your wedding day your dream day. As with any bridal magazine, much of what is useful is the abundance of ads, especially if you're still scouting for the perfect gown. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Magazine, Horrendous punctuality
I subscribed to Modern Bride as a gift to my fiance.Aside from not receiving our first issue until 3 months after the subscription, I only received about 3 issues total.Months went by without anything being delivered. While customer service at Modern Bride was very accomodating and helpful, nothing happens immediately. When planning a wedding, each and every month is precious.Especially during the initial stages of wedding planning. To have finally gotten this subscription problem under control was exhausting.Plus, by this time most of the wedding details were finalized, the magazines I received became useless. If you're under 12 months to your wedding date, you should strongly consider if now is a good time to begin a subscription with Modern Bride.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the bride-to-be and fun for everyone else
Bride's magazine is probably the best, but Modern Bride runs a close second and is more in line with the average bride of today who isn't going to have anything close to one of those "average cost of $25 grand" weddings. Of course the gowns are showcased, but MB gives priceless information on honeymoon planning, registering, wedding etiquette, even buying and setting up your first home. The subscriber gets more than their money's worth. Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great to indulge yourself in all the details
This magazine is so beautiful, and helps so much to live in that fantacy fiance stage.I love looking at the dresses and cakes, and reading about the individual love stories.
I decided that one must fully indulge in the time period before they get married because it is such a short period of our lives.I as a result have done a lot of things to get me involved with the process.
I have been working-out regulary with girlfriends to look amazing for the big day, I started a calligraphy course so that I could do the invitations- it's really fun.

I bought singing lessons on CD "Voice Lessons To Go" by Vaccarino- (they're so good!) because I want to sing our special song to my fiance at the reception as a surprise for him.

I even bought the "New Sex Now" DVD which I am saving for the hotel on our honeymoon (It came highly recommended by my girlfriend-!)

It should all be about the process of celebration. God knows we have such hard times in our lives that we have to endure. This magazine just helps me ejoy life a bit more! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Slicker and more uptown than competitors The Source and XXL, Vibe covers hip-hop culture in its many forms. The primary focus, of course, is music, but urban fashion also receives lavish treatment, and each issue contains a least a dash of movies, technology, sports, and politics. Celebrities tend to dominate its well-photographed and well-designed pages, but there's also room for more substantive fare (such as a touching report on "chickenheads"--rap-world groupies--who deserve better than they get from their often-abusive lovers). Covering a culture that is frequently misogynistic and homophobic, Vibe is both women- and gay-friendly, and surprisingly broad in its interpretation of who's cool enough for hip-hop: Elton John (for his Grammy duet with Eminem), maverick senator Jim Jeffords, and Seattle Mariners baseball star Ichiro Suzuki. --Keith Moerer ... 4-0 out of 5 stars You can't beat the price
For the price Vibe is okay, but it lost it's sizzle somewhere during the last five years.I look forward to Vibe Vixen, perhaps it will stirup my interests again.True, there are a lot of ads now, but the articles are interesting. What I miss about the magazine is that it seems like they never "break" any news anymore.Perhaps it's the Internet's fault, but I remember a time when the details of an artists Vibe interview really created a buzz (like in 99 when Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes balked to Vibe her personal feelings about the "Fan Mail" album), but now everything is just pretty mediorcre with this magazine. It's also totally predictable. When someone they consider "hot" has a product coming out you know they will be on the cover, and when I saw Pharrell and Gwen Stefani on the cover I thought that was a bit of a stretch. It's still a good magazine but I find I enjoy Blender and Sister 2 Sister much better, but for the price I will continue to support this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars VIBE has it going...
I'd been a long-time fan to VIBE since they been out. I 'member I first lay eyes on em by checking the covers on 'em but not reading by 'em. y'know. They such knockouts. Yeah they definitely keepin' it real no matter what. I believe they'll be around more and more since them magazines u read all the time like ESSENCE, EBONY and JET. I still have love for them also. But to say VIBE doesn't suck. I'd never been a subscriber since last year and I definitely enjoy it to this day. I actually read the XXL and Source magazine most often now. Same w/ Upscale, Campus Life, just to name others. I luv they magazine to death man, knahmsayin. Ya'll keep it rocked y'heard. Nobody's bringin' the hype on ya fellaz. Keep it UP!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not The Same
Where are the critiques? The articles lack any critical substance. Whoever is hot at the moment will get their behind kissed. It doesn't matter that the album is usually not worth all the hype, VIBE will go along with the flow. On top of that, there are more ADs now than ever before. Even articles that could have been decent are cut down to a page or so for the sake of saving advertising space. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good magazine
I have been recieving this magazine for around 4 years now and couldn't be happier with the magazine. As one review mentioned it does have a lot of ads (at the very back of the magazine) but a good 75% of the publication is information, and after all they have to have some way to let you get it for 10 dollars a year.A fabulous magazine, Photographic gives good exposure/information concerning both digital and film.It also has articles for people that do point-and-shoot photography - things that could be done even if you don't have an SLR camera. That said however, the magazine is most valuable for the incredible reviews they give on new lenses and camera bodies. Their film guides are also very useful. As a photography student, Their monthly article on a pro photographer and their work has been especially helpful for me as I try to look for new ways photograph and find my niche.Seeing the work of other pros, adn finding out how they got started in the buisness has been very informative for me.Every couple months there is also usually an article on a new shooting technique (the one that stands out in my mind was from last year and focused on shooting still life photographs with a Renaissnace look to them using an extremely simple set up)and they give practicle shoot advice that is easily understanbale by someone who has not been around photography long.

Also as a side note, this is a very family friendly publication. I have been very impressed by Photographinc in the fact that unlke many photography based magazines they have a policiy against publishing nude images.Maybe twice in four years have I seen nude images in their publiction, and then they were very small images and usually part of a photo contest ad.

3-0 out of 5 stars A decent introduction to photography with unhelpful reviews
This magazine is basically composed of how-to articles and reviews. The articles are a good introduction, the reviews are unhelpful.

I learned most of what I know from reading this magazine and other "enthusiast" magazines like it. If you read it for awhile, you'll notice that the how-to articles repeat themselves fairly often, so the articles eventually get old. Although they are helpful for new photographers, they would be better off just buying a good textbook on beginning photography.

The reviews, like those in all magazines I've encountered, are almost entirely a waste of time. They will always be very positive (the mag won't bite the hand that feeds it), and don't offer meaningful critiques or comparisons to the competition. Find a good review website, like dpreview.

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
I am cross posting this most of these photo magazines are published by the same company under a different name. I have read them ALL!

First, 77%+ of this magazine is advertisements. That leaves under 25% of material. The material that does remain is bare minimum informational and tends to just show "pretty photos". Coverage on camera gear appears skewed since EVERYTHING is GREAT. This leads me to believe advertisers sway them.

In short, this is an advertising pamphlet with a cover price. If you need information, typing "photography" in any search engine will give you more information in 30 seconds then a 10 year subscription.

I wrote the main company about the 77% issue and they stated that they are aware of the amount of advertisement and quoted a percentage higher then I stated. That this was necessary to continue producing a magazine of this quality.

Quality? OK, if this is quality then I don't know what to say other then the semi professional magazines are free of charge from the publishers, contain actual subjective information, and are produced on high quality paper with fewer than 30% advertising. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
I bought subscriptions to both elle girl and teen vogue two months ago, and now I wish I'd only gotten teen vogue. Each month's issues of elle girl and teen vogue cover exactly the same stuff, so you only need one, and teen vogue's miniature format is so cute with such pretty photography.Elle girl bugs me with its shallow, just-for-show interest in current issues, and its emphasis on boring celebrity interviews.Definitely go for teen vogue.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Ever
This magazine, although intended for the teenage crowd, seems to contain mostly advertisements. It holds only a couple of actual articles that are more than a paragraph long. I would never suggest this magazine, unless you are the kind of person who buys them to look at the ads.

3-0 out of 5 stars also appropriate for state and federal inmates on low budget
    1.
One star omitted because trees were cut down for a luxury.
    2.
    One star omitted because color semi-glossy paper was used;
a reader with a bit of imagination could do with matte B&W
    3.
Although this QUALITY periodical was not intended to be an
inmate's fantasy 'book', it can serve the purpose, and for
an extremely low price. At the risk of seeming ridiculous,
allow me to say that the calibre of the female models is a
rare treat. Being that the 'normal' fare of jail detainees
or convicted inmates is a MUCH lower-class, mostly nude or
all-nude collection of rather trashy females who appear in
raunchy magazines that are protected by the Constitution's
first amendment (freedom of the press), ELLE GIRL raises a
guy's standards by presenting fully-clad, very attractive,
non-provocatively-posed young women in well-composed photo
spreads. The text of the accompanying articles and sidebar
features are useless filler to a con, but the sheer amount
of top-of-the-line lasses makes this 'zine a real bargain.
    4.
To the friends and relatives of orthodox Jews or observant
Muslims who 'happen' to be in a state/federal correctional
facility (i.e., prison) or county jail: your guy does have
NEEDS, and Elle Girl can play a wholesome part in the ful-
fillment of male atraction to the female sex, withOUT smut
    that would debase a God-fearing man/young-man. There's not
a bad apple in the whole bunch of young damsels who flaunt
their God-given beauty on the pages of Elle Girl, and they
are presented so TASTEFULLY that they actually put females
who show more flesh to shame! I really think this magazine
can and will raise the standards of your loved one for the
duration of his confinement (and consequent deprivation of
mixing with the opposite sex). Pray on it, then ACT on it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Promoting another Racist
Not again, Details Mag has another Racist thing going again, this time they are promoting Mark Wahlberg, who was arrested for beating and assaulting Asian people. What is up with Details magazine???. Promoting racist ideasmakes stupid people like Mark Wahlberg do stupid things. It adds up to tax payers' money, we the smart people have to keep losers like Mark Wahlberg in jail. Details sucks ass. Read something else people! The magazine has been discounted so much-it means the magazine is bad, the publisher is trying to get more readers to read this junk. They lost customers.

5-0 out of 5 stars great magazine

4-0 out of 5 stars Four Wheeler
    Great magazine.

I started to subscribe to one of the other 4X4 magazines then
    noticed Four Wheeler.
    This one fits my needs.

    I have F150 4X4.
I don't do Jeeps. I rode in too many of them while active duty. Very uncomfortable.
This magazine seems to rotate toward full sized trucks.
    Just what I like.

1-0 out of 5 stars FourWheeler Magazine Trashed By Primedia Publishing
Don't waste your time or money!

I read many 4x4 magazines and have for over 25 years.I am not at all impressed with the current crop available, especially Four Wheeler.Primedia Publishing has bought out most of the automotive enthusiast magazines out there and now dominates the market. It's almost as bad as Microsoft, (i.e. as it's a Microsoft World).

Recent FourWheeler published the Four Wheeler of the Year Test and I received it with in 3 days of receiving my 4WheelDrive magazine with the same test. They both even had the same cover shot of the winning Soccer mom Station Wagon (maybe a fine vehicle but bad choice for a 4x4).Who are these testers, do they even live in the real world?Same vehicle won both tests and was on the cover of both mags.Inside the selection of articles were very similar and most case the same writing. My son and I both thought we had received duplicate copies of the same magazine. It was only by placing them side by side and comparing the cover names that we saw they were two separate magazines.

When Peterson Automotive Publishing (owners of the Famous Auto Museum in LA by the same name) put out the mags they were excellent articles with original content covering a wide variety of subjects related to each different magazine audience.

Then Emap bought out Peterson and quality declined somewhat. Then Primedia (a world wide publishing firm) bought them all out, and then quality went thru the floor.

Don't waste your money on these subscriptions until they can get the quality back up to where it was when Peterson published these titles. It's an insult to everyone to think they could pull off stunts such as this.

2-0 out of 5 stars got it for my parents...
...and although it was a creative house warming gift, I am not impressed. If you are intrested in knowing what is going on with the lawyers or the fanciest chef's in the Boston area and where to locate these people, this magazine might satisfy you. I got a subscription for my parents when they moved to the Boston area about a year ago and, although they might give it a nicer review since they did RENEW their subscription, being an out-of-towner I am not at all impressed. The magazine seems to be promoting the idea that everyone in Boston is loaded and lives the glamorous life and while I understand that the cost of living int he area is quite high, I do not believe nor have I experienced the image promoted in the magazine to be accurate of the area. In visiting my parents I have tried many times to pick up the magazine and read it to no avail...

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Way to Know Los Angeles
Los Angeles Magazine has a variety of information for everyone. Some of the stores, fashions, etc... might run on the high end price-wise (especially the paid advertisements). But the magazine always offers a great overview of what is going on in Los Angeles. Covering News, Politics, Celebrities, Fashion, Food and Fun things to do. The best issue is the Annual Restaurant issue - this is not to be missed. Restaurants in every price range are listed. Besides the "Dining Out" monthly section, there is "The Top Ten" - plays, music, museums and more to do that month. This magazine is a great way to get to know Los Angeles. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's What Men Like to Read
Men's Journal is a decent magazine full of varied topics of interest to men. This magazine covers areas like sports, adventure travel, fashion and style, cars and trucks, career issues, etc. This publication directs all of its articles toward men, with an emphasis on what is most appealing to males throughout a typical week in their lives.

One thing about Men's Journal that is a little different from other men's magazines is that it doesn't flaunt women to sell its issues. In fact, there are practically no pictures of women at all in this publication- something that will be considered an asset to some, and a liability to others. This magazine refuses to play the female card and instead focuses its articles on topics that men like to read about.

Men's Journal is often obsessed with lists, and I think this is especially true in the last few years. Take a look at the cover of most issues and you will see a large, boldface advertisement for some sort of list. In one issue, it might be a ranking of the best cities for entry level jobs. In another issue, it might be a listing of the best places for young entrepreneurs. Whatever it might be, Men's Journal seems to have an infatuation with lists, probably because men like lists and it helps increase sales.

This magazine can be counted on to produce some fairly good reading, but I must warn that many of the articles are a little too simplistic, with little emphasis on intellectualism. Even the articles about politics and business are often riddled with obvious statements that most anyone would know. But overall, I still think Men's Journal is a good magazine. It is varied enough that most anyone will find something interesting to read and the price is very low.

5-0 out of 5 stars Longtime Reader and Subscriber
I've been reading Men's Journal since the first issue. I've always enjoyed its mix of content. MJ interviews a wide range of interesting individuals. Over the years I've incorporated some of the workout tips from MJ's fitness pages into my workout routine. I especially enjoy reading the product reviews. The travel recommendations are always well written, if not sometimes beyond the budget of most readers (myself included!). Overall, Men's Journal offers a great mix of well written content.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
The main articles are pretty interesting.I wish the rest of the articles would have more detail though.I like this magazine, it covers many subjects and is fun to read.I think it has more room to grow covering many more guys stuff like home repair and hunting.I look forward to continuing with my subscription. ...
