2-0 out of 5 stars Earn a Don't Read Boys' Life Merit Badge
I haven't touched this magazine in over a decade.I used to read it every time I got an issue in my parents' mailbox.Of course, by read, I mean I would skip through the articles that taught me nothing and head over to the comics.Dink and Duff were my favorite, although not laugh-out-loud funny.I recently skimmed through Webelos Woody, The Tracy Twins, Peewee Harris, and the sometimes hilarious Pedro. When I was even younger, I used to spend a *lot* of time perusing the junk pages, where you could order 8 pranks for the price of a dollar or something.

Now, as an alternative, I highly recommend going through the Boy Scout Handbooks with your kids. The Cub Scout handbooks are just as interesting as the Boy Scout ones, and they actually teach you about health, staying fit, learning knots, Fire safety, backpacking/camping tips, etc.

I don't know how the modern Boys' Life compares to the old issues, but it seems like it's fallen for the same virus as every other magazine I've stopped ordering: advertisements.

1-0 out of 5 stars If there was an option for zero stars this would earn it!
This magazine is inundated with advertising. The few articles that do exist are saturated with trend ideals and sparcely include the moral values that the Boy Scout organization is said to imply. I am disappointed that the BS organization is willing to be associated with such junk, and supports yet another venue for exploiting funds from its particpants.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
Boys Life Sucks. I am in Boy scouts and I still get this stupid Magaziene. I thought thay only gave it to Cub Scouts. It is so lame. There is no good articals in it and the comics are for losers. I threw all of them out. I think it should stop. It should be called Girls life. If you are a Boy Scout or Cub Scout I sugest you throw the crappy magizienes out. If you are not a cub scout of boy scout dont get this crap. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars the WORST experience ever with ordering
I ordered two copies of this subscrition to find that I am recieving one and the other is lost in space, even though I have paid for it. the newpaper company amazon order through can't find it and Amazon refuses to deal with it, just saying they have passed the order on. The magazine themselves have never heard of me either; even though I ALREADY PAID for it.
NEVER EVER us this system for ordering magazines it is just not worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get your kids to read!
Iordered this as a birthday gift for my 8yr old nephew who loves to both play and watch sports. Now he grabs the issue as soon as it arrives and runs to his room to read it and get his new trading cards. Each issue also comes with a small poster in the middle that can be hung in their room or locker. It appears to have the same or similar articles as the "adult" version but no swimsuit issue and otherwise edited for the younger set.He has already asked me to renew the subscription for his next birthday. This is a great way to get your kids reading which will also help improve their writing as well as other skills needed in school (and life).
If your child loves sports I highly recommend investing in a subscription - well worth the $20!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine for kids
I've been reading this with my six year old son for several months now. It's a great way to get in some pleasurable reading, and start forming a reading habit, with a child who likes sports.

There are a number of standard sections, and nice short articles in kid-friendly language. Each month they have an insert with some playing cards which he looks forward to.And they'll interview a player about a specific skill -- how to steal a base, how to play defense in basketball, etc.

I recommend it both for the fun/sports content, and also for the educational benefit of starting the reading habit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We keep renewing!
This is a great magazine for preschool/early elementary kids.We have renewed it twice and enjoy watching our son learn more with each issue. The editors do a great job of publishing intersting and unique facts about many different kids of animals.

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP OFF!!!!
I ordered a subscription for my step-son and a gift for a niece at the same time. They took my money and both of the ONE-YEAR subscriptions I paid for only resulted in ONE ISSUE to each child.I couldn't get any more information on the magazine, as we never received any more informaiton until I got an e-mail from Amazon asking me to renew.

I noticed another recent post with the same problem. The magazine was really great, and my step-son and niece both waited and waited for their next issue which never showed.

How disappointing.I wouldn't take the chance if I were you.

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It and The Company Solved Our Subscription Problem
My son has loved this magazine and is in his third year as a subscriber. He loves getting an interesting magazine in the mail each month.I love that it has good emergent reader level content this is focused so that different bits of content throughout the magazine reinforce the same concepts. My son especially loves the mini-books that come in each magazine and we generally have to make those as soon as they come.

As an educator, I love that the content is at the right level and that it is actually educational in contrast to some magazines. This magazine is reasonably priced and still has NO advertising.I am so thankful that the publishers have made that decision and I will keep subscribing to this until it is time to move up to Ranger Rick.

I did have to sort out a problem with the publisher because we had recieved two gift subscriptions.I called and they were able to make the two subscriptions run back to back, so instead of two magazines each month, we have two years of subscription and they assure me that whenever it is time to move to Ranger Rick, we can apply any unused Big Backyard to the Ranger Rick subscription. They were very polite to me and solved my problem efficiently. ... One word does it!

I loved it as a child, my daughter loves it.Your child will to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped Foster My Love and Respect for Animals
    (...)

Living in the country as I did, I saw plenty wild animals in my backyard (squirrels, raccoons, possums..), but armed with Ranger Rick, I was able to appreciate and see them up close with out being bit, scratched, mauled, or hauled off to the emergency room for rabies shots!

Besides the wonderful animal features, there were projects, games, and activities to keep me and my brother busy. The concepts put forth in each issue emphasized recycling, kindness to animals, and conservation -- values and beliefs I carry with me almost 30 years after the fact.

So whether you live on a farm, the suburbs, or the city, Ranger Rick would be a wonderful gift for your child. It will help foster a life long love and respect for animals, as well as reinforce key values (conservation, recycling, etc.).A few things have changed over the past 30 years, but Ranger Rick is still consistantly a good magazine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ranger Rots!

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm going to say it again
The previous reviews have said it all...but it can't hurt to say it again...this magazine is a waste...it is filled with jokes, ads and animals frequently dressed up in silly outfits.SO SO SO disappointing because I am a huge National Geographic fan.For those who want a good quality magazine for their children, subscribe to ASK Magazine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty cool
If you want a magazine that has a lot of interesting articles this is the magazine for you. It has some things that come in all the issues like (lame) jokes and a bunch of facts. It also has some news stories and most issues try to get you to watch something exciting on the National Geographic Channel. Mostly this is a decent kids magazine with nothing bad or inappropriat but actually manages to still be quite fun to read ... Read more

    3-0 out of 5 stars *Um,I'm 12.It's okay but....*
...It can be weak. About 1\4 of the magazine is ads, and the other is crude humor. I'm mean Ilike jokes and all, but there is way too much! Since I'm getting older, I'm reading GL,Teen,Discovery Girls, and AG. But I like this mag. It has it's uppoints: Celeb Chats, weird facts, a calendar for what's happening that month. It also tells when new nick shows are, which is cool. It's more for 8-11 range but I like it. But I'm probably gonna stop getting it soon.I seriously hoped I helped, and this mag is great for kids. Thanks, and bye!

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD!

We had this for my granddaughter when she was little and we sent in one of her pictures, here it is a year and a half later and they are going to use it!If any of you get this it will be in the March April issue.Would you consider sending me that page after your child is through with that issue?I can't find a place where I can order just a couple copies of that issue. If you find an address to send for back issues would you please email me.cindyleet@gci.net

4-0 out of 5 stars Kid's don't fake it. You know if they like it.
My four year old grand daughter likes to spend time with books and magazines. She choses this one frequently from the pile available to her.
Her favorite [...] mothergoosecaboose and this magazine gives it a run for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good short stories and activities
This magazine is expensive, but each issue contains several stories, activities like mazes, finding hidden items, and basic colors and counting. My son does not watch TV (his choice), but he likes the characters in this magazine, who are all friendly and likable to him.

I also recommend subscribing to the mediocre Parenting magazine, only because it includes an issue of Sesame Street magazine with every subscription-issue. Sesame Street magazine is better than Preschool Playroom because it has a much broader selection of information (includes animals, geography, and multi-cultural lessons) presented in a style that preschoolers enjoy. Just leave the Parenting magazine in the waiting room at the pediatrician's office. ... Read more

Dranzer V is a very powerful beyblade. It has a great attack. It also has great looks. It's got good defense and endurance. At first I didnt think it was so great when my brother got it.I only lost 3 times with Dranzer V.If you get any beyblade get Dranzer V!

4-0 out of 5 stars ok but not that good
this blade is ok but dosnt spin for long i woudnet recamend it i used my dragoon v (magnetic) agiast it and i went through the blade and broke all the wires in side and stuff so i would go for the magnetic blades rarther than the remote control

5-0 out of 5 stars TheBlade Grinding Association (BGA)
This blade is alright concidering what it can do. This beyblade can do quick turns fast attacks and even a dodge or two (if your good enough). Well its great in the ring but it shines on the floor (non carpet). On a hard surface, like a table, this blade can attack a blade 3-4 times like on the show! Once me and my brother took our battle to the floor and attackes 30+ times before we ended the battle with a big final acceleration blow. It's perfect right? No, it isn't very easy to learn how to master so it's fit for hardcore pro's. Also if not well maintained the blade will basically break apart from the inside! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It was a deception!!!!!
It was really frustating for me and my litle son. I bought it at amazon.com site. It took about 10 days to get in my house because I live outside US and when my son tried to play it was not working. What about the QC of this toy? is it a joke! As I live outside US I can't exchange it. But the worth is the frustation of my kid. This Mastecard can not afford!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragoon V beats cousins beyblade
I creamed my cousin with my dragoon v.When I battled my cousin, I attacked just one time and beat his Seaborg. He said he would trade his best beyblade for my dragoon V, but I turned him down.I really like dragoon v.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dragoon rc is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This beyblade is so cool you can counter spin you can acceceluratereal fast left or right you can't even follow it. It's the beyblade today it's way better than dragoon fighter and dragoon victory[magnacore] it's a true attack beyblade. It can even beat a metal knight dranzer[Magnacore]i'veheard there coming out with driger rc soon can't wait forhe is going to be a challenge and I hope this drigger has different design.I don't know why everybody says this takes fun out beyblading it doesn't and I don't know why everybody is so crazy about magncore or v2 this is what I have been waiting for. It can even beet a driger f so get it is worth it you can even customize it's attack ring so you can't customize all of it who cares it's still fun. Remeber to keep the bottom clean and don't use up all the batteries to much and over charge that's why they cry about it being broken by the way i'm 11. Editorial Review

Popularized by the Japanese animé cartoon Beyblade, Beyblading has become an official game with tournaments popping up around the world. Played with high-performance tops in portable arenas called Beystadiums, the game requires a studied understanding of rules and strategies to be successful. The Beyblade arrives unassembled and can be customized using the included top, launcher, ripcord, bonus stickers and/or additional parts (sold separately). 5-0 out of 5 stars Cool!
This blade, I'm telling you, is strange. Why? It nearly loses all the time when I battle with it. When me & my cousin bought new blades,we test them out. (I bought Draciel but I lost it) When we got to my house,we battle it out! It was Griffolyon vs Knight Dranzer. Knight D. is wild! It spins all over the place! Anyway,It beats my Griffon(I made this short up) nearly all the time! Later on, I read reviews about this blade. It encourged me not to give up on using this blade. If you live near me, I have spots on my team for you can join! On saturdays,Fri.,& sun,you can find my in the front yard traing in my Drazner Flame Stadium!

5-0 out of 5 stars To Griffolyon or Not To Griffolyon. That is The Question.
OOOH! Look at the 4 huge spikes!!! Yeah, I've got to get it! WRONG!!!!! (well... sort of) This blade has more attack than it can handle. Sure, the big spikes dish out huge damage but they also take too much damage. This blade would be good if it had a heavier base. I put the attack ring from Griffolyon 2 on top of my Driger V base and weight ring and it performed much better. So, if you are willing to buy more than one blade, get Griffolyon 2 and Driger V and combine them as I said above. If you only want to get one blade get Driger V because it can beat my Griffolyon 2 every time. I gave this a 5 for education because it teaches about weight, inertia, and how different tops perform better with different weights/bases. I gave it a 5 for duribility because no-matter how many times it gets smashed and hurled multiple feet into the air it is always fine afterwards. I gave it a 5 for fun because there's nothing better than letting two plastic tops smash together and watching them get thrown around as they smash each other. Haha! C ya later!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BLADE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great blade (even if it takes a while to put the stickers on) and the griffolyon figure it comes with is just as cool .ive only just got this today but i trashed a wolborg 2 in about 6 seconds , me and my friend both launched our blades in (me=griffolyon2, my friend=wolborg2) and he started to trash me but then my griffolyon seemed to speed up and slammed wolborg against the wall before launching it 4 feet in the air and sending it airborn out if the staduim , this blade is GREAT!!!!!!
BUT ONLY USE IF YOU CAN HANDLE TRAINING WITH IT FOR A WHILE, AT FIRST MINE JUST KEPT SLAMMING INTO WALLS AND THE PITS BUT AFTER TRAINING ITS GREAT.
EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS BAD AT FIRST KEEP ON TRAING AND YOU WILL COME OUT ON TOP.

(PS The figure takes a whil to build but its all goodwhen its done , and dont forget to keep on blading) ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Beyblade tops have left the kitchen floor behind to enter the space age, or a Beyblade stadium to be precise. Kids snap a Beyblade top (sold separately) into a shooter, pull its ripcord while holding the top over a stadium like this one, and stand back as the top ricochets off stadium walls and, hopefully, annihilates other tops. A little more than 18 inches across, this super stadium is made of thin blue plastic with green accents. It has three slots along its sides where defeated tops get knocked out of the ring. While this simple dish like construction won't stand up to a whole lot of abuse, if treated with moderate respect, it'll play host to an endless bounty of spins, flips, and spills. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is awful!!!
Hasbro has really crossed the line this time. This is the worst stadium ever. THere is noo slope so attack types always go into pockets, and the bump in the middle screws up defense and endurencetypes too. I was able to break this stadium with the worst beyblade ever Wing Attacker, not to mention it broke after the second time I used it. This stadium is horrible. If your'e a serious beyblader STAY AWAY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars ultamite stadium
this stadium is sweet.this is a great stadium for powerful attack beyblades to move without hitting the walls as much. Its also good for more blades in the battle. Its better for practicing.p.s LET IT RIP.......................................

the reson i had to give it 5 stars for every thing because, if you didnt have one you would have to battle in a tin, jar, box but the coolest thing you are not aloud to battle on would be the floor, with the rc tops.(remote control beyblades)

    Editorial Review

In the complex mythology of the LEGO Bionicle series, Takanuva is one of the good guys, a "Toa" who tries to defend the land of Mata Nui against the nefarious Makuta and his associates who are up to no good. When Makuta and Takanuva join together, they form Takutanuva, whom we are told is the most powerful being ever to appear in Mata Nui. This kit allows young builders to create the two foes, Takutanuva, as well as Ussanai, Takanuva's vehicle. It's challenging to assemble the 396 included pieces to form the impressive hybrid, although the detailed instruction booklet helps. But it's not supposed to be easy since Bionicle toys are part of the trend of toys (Gundam, Yu-Gi-Oh!) that combine the most challenging elements of model making with the rich back story of fantasy action figures. The silver and green, vaguely insect-like monster Lehrak, one of six Rahkshi, is noted more for his raw power than his intelligence and wields a special staff that can poison anything it touches. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Lehrak is a 45-piece LEGO set. By following the graphic instruction manual, it's easy to construct the monster according to specifications. But since it is a LEGO product, some license can be taken to build new hybrid monsters. Lehrak, like all Bionicles, comes in a reusable plastic container, which makes it easier to keep its pieces separate. --Charlie Williams ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Building Bliss: The perfect toy
I found this to be one of the best out of the six. The green color complements the design, unlike the Brown Rahkshi and the Black one.

Not only that, ..., the feet do not come off easily if you build it right. If you give it a push, it slides on perfectly, and doesn't come off.

The only thing I might say I'm not completely satisfied with are the hips. They sway too much, and can make posing a chore.

But all in all, this would have to be my favorite of the entire BIONICLE series. It is fun to build, and even better if you have a BIONICLE Toa Nuva. And if you open up the Rahkshi's Back with Spikes, you might just find a surprise...

5-0 out of 5 stars Rakhsih in the middle
This fun little toy is a fun little toy, but its legs, and feet come off way too much. And I mean alot. And if you move the legs to much, it gets harder to move.Other then that, kids love it. If your kid doesn't mind to put pieces back together a couple of times, this is a good toy for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars can't do much better than this.
this bad boy comes with 40 peices, along with intructions and a small comic.

once built, you can put him in any pose you desire. however, because of the posability, some poses look weird, some look feminine, and some look just downright stupid. however, it's still a great toy, so buy him.

his action feature is moving his arms from side-to-side, with the staff it's supposed to be a slashing action. it looks kinda silly, so it looks more like he is being a DJ.

overall these figures are pretty sweet, so buy one. who can't love a beast who can poison anything with his staff!? ... Read more

    Editorial Review

As the LEGO Bionicle legend goes, bad guy Makuta has unleashed six Rahkshi in order to capture the Mask of Light and prevent the coming of the Seventh Toa. One of the Rahkshi, Guurahk, has the ability to spot the weak spot on his opponent and, once that spot is found, he unleashes a bolt of energy to destroy his foe. Fortunately, in toy form, he's significantly less dangerous and significantly more fun to have around. Following the enclosed graphic instruction book, it's easy to assemble the 45 pieces into Guurahk. Once assembled, he has spikes on his back; a bluish silvery body, glowing red eyes, and what looks like buck teeth. Apparently, Guurahk's own weak spot is orthodontia. --Charlie Williams ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised!!!
    Hi,

We have resisted buying these because they seemed so cheap...also the usual question we parents always ask ourselves..."What are they going to do with them?"

Our nine year old received on with his birthday present. Now my husband and I have our tails between our legs. Our son loves it.He had the best time building it and an even better time playing with it.

Now we will be purchasing more for Christmas.

Please do not make the same mistake that my husband and I made and misjudge these toys. You will be denying your child a great experience.

Although the manufacturer suggests ages 7 and up, I do not feel a child younger than 8 or 9 would be able to indendently put this toy together. That is the point of Lego's, to construct and play. The primary benefit, in my opinion, is the satisfaction of "doing it" yourself!

A definate A+ for our 9 year old!

4-0 out of 5 stars my first rahkshi ever but I still want all of them
I love this toy because the lever swings the staff of power. The staff can turn rock into rubble, never lock him in a castle cause it will shatter. He other power finds a weak spot of a toa.
the education of the toy, I rate it 2 stars for getting better at LEGO's, buy it and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

    Editorial Review

As intimidating as the red, spiky Tuhrak looks, one would be advised to be even more frightened of his staff. According to the surprisingly ornate LEGO Bionicle mythology, Tuhrak's staff has the ability to provoke anything from slight unease to stark raving terror in whomever it touches. Bad guy Makuta has employed Tuhrak, as well as five other Rahkshi creatures, to capture the Mask of Light and prevent the coming of the Seventh Toa. Fortunately, in toy form, he's a little more manageable. By following the graphic instruction booklet, it's easy to assemble the 45 pieces and make the menacing Tuhrak. And since its LEGO, other bricks can be added to make Tuhrak even more menacing or make entirely new creatures.--Charlie Williams ... Read more

This is one of the best bionicles. This is a better one to add to your collection. It is good for combinding with other Rahkshi, as I'm doing with Panrahk as I speak. If there are any questions, feel free to give an I.M to NackJackLack ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The Toa, saviors in the battle against the Bohrok on the island of Mata Nui, are exposed to the strange energies of protodermis and are transformed into the mighty Toa Nuva, with new powers, new armor, and new tools. Pohatu Nuva has a set of massive climbing claws that help him scale any peak; they can also be combined to form his legendary Kodan ball. Turn the wheel on the back to make his mighty arms move. These super versions of the original Toa come in the same capsule-like containers with artistically crafted lids that can also serve as display stands. --M. Sullivan ... Read more

Pohatu Nuva is really good because I made a super version of Jaller and his body is made out of pohatu nuva.Bioinicles are so good becase you can make them over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pohatu The Stone Toa
So far I've been very pleased with Pohatu Nuva. He is much different from the other Toa Nuva in that, insted of the arms moving, the legs move due to the fact that his mask is the mask of speed. I think Pohatu Nuva makes a great first Bionicle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pohatu rocks! Unlike all your other gundams and zoids
Pohatu is one of the coolest toa yet! I would know, I'm his biggest fan!
You can use him for all sorts of things, for example, in a toa vs. toa nuva kholli match you could use his mask to get him right at the goal.
his climbing clawsmmake him even more powerful than the original pohatu, which had only hands. his bellbottom legs make him look cooler
and his arms can make a kodan ball for kicking into makuta. ... Read more
