1-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!
i loved this cd. Track 5 is excelent. its quite a joy to listen to while your hair is getting cut or something like that. this is one of the (I LOVE STARBURST!) g r e a t e s talbums i own. and i own alot. 513 songs to be exact. and this (BILBO BAGGINS) album is good music. not bad music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to great collection of The Cramps early years
For those who never heard of the Cramps, and there are too many of you, the music was great fusion of rockabilly, surf rifts, and punk with lyrics largely inspired by science fiction and monster B-movies circa 1962.Their live shows are legendary, which is good since I've always found their recorded work somewhat uneven. They have incredible longevity for what could easily have been a throwaway novelty act.

This is a good collection of their early work.Highlights for me are Garbageman, Save It, and Human Fly.Other songs are good to OK, and range from just plain silly (She Said) to a tad disturbing (TV Set).In my opinion, the Cramps don't deserve the godlike worship they've received in some places, including previous reviews. But they are way underappreciated, and this is a good place to start if you're new to them.

5-0 out of 5 stars You must buy this!
I was hooked on this record from day one.As soon as it came out on CD I bought it.I broke the CD and bought it again. It never gets old, and for me it is the defining Cramps disc!!! Buy it, buy it now. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't get fooled
There are currently two major surf magazines, SURFER and SURFING.Guess what? They are owned by the same magazine conglomerate, Primedia.Surfer used to bill itself as the "Bible" of the sport, and for a long time it was.But now, in keeping with the times of oligopolies and the hyper-commercialization of surfing, Surfer, along with it's younger partner, Surfing, is a piece of toilet paper. The editorial content has been dumbed down to general public intelligence, the photos are not as spectacular as they used to be, and the characters they cover, the surfers themselves are nowhere near as interesting and colorful as they used to be.Blah...

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST MAG EVER!
I've had a subscripiton for 5 years now and Surfer is by far the best mag I've ever read, i could read it front to back or back to front 10 times and it would still be the best. It's almost a prescipition than a subscripition!

5-0 out of 5 stars Surfer Mag
By far the most comprehensive magazine on surfing, comes out monthly with news on surfing contests, changes in the surfing industry, and all the ins & outs you could think of, an amazing magazine, the only mag you should have if you are a surfer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with this one
For an artist interested in an 'outside the norm' art movement, this mag opens the doors to a wealth of imagination. It often features artists like Mark Ryden and Eric White, Shag, Gary Baseman but it also features less known artists too.A definite recommendation. The magazine is colorful, whimsical and always entertaining. A+

5-0 out of 5 stars Art by and for Outsiders
I teach at an art school...all I can say is that this magazine keeps me sane! There have been lots of phrases coined to describe art that can't or won't fit into the neat little Academic Art boxes. Terms like "Outsider Art" "Outre" and "Retro" are all illustrated in this amazing publication. If you want the ultra-chi-chi Post-Modern A Go-Go stuff that sells in most galleries today, look elsewhere. Juxtapoz is art by people who like to make art. Anything goes, and the Art Speak is refreshingly absent or toned down. The editors have a sharp eye for quality however, so don't worry about this being another "Anything can be art" experience. It's fun the way your first Hot Rod magazine was, or Low Rider, or Famous Monsters, or Vampirella, etc. If you're tired of the current wave of ultra self-absorbed Art, this is just the tonic you crave....

4-0 out of 5 stars High brow, low brow...however you define 'art' this mag's A+
Juxtapoz is a glossy that focuses particularly on low-brow art (e.g., works that aren't usually seen in mainstream cultural institutions.) While Los Angeles is their home-base, they make efforts to highlight talents world-wide that are normally under the radar - tattoo artists, graffiti artists, muralists, etc...
Great features on emerging and in-their prime artists with wonderful layouts of artwork, the magazine often features full color pull-outs.

Despite heavy advertisements for artists and galleries that often look like mirror-images of each other (which isn't necessarily the magazines' fault but more of a lack of expansion of subject matter on the artists' behalf) and editorial that sometimes feels to focus primarily on California-based artists, Juxtapoz is an established magazine that does a great job of covering art that's rarely given a spotlight. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So bizarre, so wonderful...
I happened upon this magazine ...once, and when I picked it up, I couldn't put it back down. Any magazine that has articles on amputee soccer teams along side articles on the best places to have public sex in Britain is one for me. Sure, it's often vulgar and there are many pictures (and words, for that matter) that you wouldn't want junior looking at, but for the adult interested in the obscure and weird things that other publications will not touch, get Bizarre!!! I subscribe to a lot of magazines on a variety of topics, and this is the only one that gets read cover to cover every month. They take the most stirring and powerful pictures and the kind of stories that other organizations wouldn't even think of, and package it all up into the best magazine on either side of the Atlantic! Even the letters page is a hoot... I just can't say enough about Bizarre! Try it and see!

4-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Magazine Subscription
Bizarre is "A Magazine About Life in the Extreme".I've been a subscriber to this British publication for over 2 years (as of this writing)....
About Bizarre:Articles about porn, weird news, murders, drug culture, conspiracies, strange television, music/book/film reviews, pop culture, cults, etc.Stuff mainstream media usually doesn't touch.
It helps to be somewhat familiar with British culture, as this magazine is written in the UK, but if you're not, it shouldn't detract from your enjoyment. The magazine is worth the price, as it's a thick publication, with many articles and pictures.
Although I love this magazine, I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, as I've had probs with my magazines' delivery. As in, I failed to recieve some issues....

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, to say the least...
Okay, so I just happened to pick this rag up at a Superstand in Houston (back in the day when those used to be all over the place...Sad how anti-literate society has become.)Anywho, if you're looking for a magazine that will catch and keep your attention, this is it.True, a lot of places treat it as porn, but you know, topless women or scantily clad women are only acceptable to society as a whole if said women are in National Geopgraphic.(Did anyone complain sexism with their swimsuit issue?I think not.)I really like the extensive section dedicated to the kind of things that just don't make the evening news, like this one article about a guy who thought he had heartburn or something like that.Turned out to be his not fully developed siamese twin residing in hiw chest.Things like that.True, it is a bit on the liberal side sometimes, and sometimes it does razz the current administration. But if you can get over that, it is an overall good read.I have never been disappointed by an issue yet.I mean, one of the most interesting cover stories they had was Victorian pornography. And we thought they were prudes!

Really, Bizarre can be a real eye-opener in some respects. From sensationalist police rags in Mexico to something as simple as new music that MTV won't play, there's information to be had.It is always amusing, often funny, and sometimes rather insightful.Maybe it isn't exactly educational, but then again, neither was Rocky and Bullwinkle.(For the longest time, that was billed as edutainment.) ... Book of Mr. Natural

    Editorial Review

Mr. Natural is a 1960s guru, "th' only knower of th' cosmic mysteries alive at this time." Calling him a "mystic madcap" gives the crass, less-than-compassionate charlatan the benefit of the doubt. He is not particularly wise or helpful; in fact, he's a lecherous, grumbling old geezer who gives advice such as "When you arise in the morning, you should do last night's dirty dishes . . . then you should sing a simple melody (of your own choice) . . . then you should call somebody up (not me) . . . then go to the store . . . buy some asparagus." True to the collection's name and R. Crumb's reputation, the stories are sometimes sexually graphic (especially in the scenes with Devil Girl) and a bit on the violent side. Still, there's an innocent, upbeat quality to this comic reflection of America's most notoriously freewheeling decade. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Natural - Horny Guru or Chairman Mao
It's said that chairman Mao was going to put Mr. Natural on the cover of his little red book along with his quotations but Nixon nixed the deal saying it would reveal too many secrets about America.

Robert Crumb has an uncanny way of telling the absolute truth.Mr. Natural is as natural as we may all be if it were not for the hang-ups that our parents and teachers impose upon us as children. He tells the truth as it really is - and how is that you say? Well one of the most important truths is not to forget whatever it was you were supposed to remember... and if you do... well just make it up!

    After all... twas ever thus!

Excellent collection of Mr Natural's adventures thru life - a must have for anyone who used to say cool but will probably go over the head of anyone who says kewl. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lost for words...
This book first off is GREAT.I wasn't sure what to expect when i first ordered, but once i got it, i was very impressed and blown away. This not only goes over the history of Ed Roth, but also has a great deal of his work shown in it.From old custom Hot Rods, to his Kustom Cars, to the different Rat finks (surf fink, race fink ,etc)this book is a blessing.

The only thing i would say that it lacked on is that fact it didn't go into great detail on his Kustom Cars that he created in his lifetime.I was expecting to be a great deal more, but since i was more into his art and collabrated art, no harm no foul in my eyes.

If you like Big Daddy Ed Roth in the least, this book is perfect!
