5-0 out of 5 stars switched
I'm one of those who switched from a PC to a Mac about six months ago. I took some heat from people at work, and yet they were impressed with the iPod, and when they found that OS X uses Unix.

This iBook proved itself over and over again when I traveled from the East Coast , to Hawaii, and back to the Pacific Northwest. The battery life is very good.

OS X is simple and reliable.I've shown my friends in Hawaii and now they are thinking about getting a Mac too.I have the iBook next to my PC desktop at home and I find that I don't use my PC much at all.

I really enjoy iPhoto and iTunes . I hav'nt done much with iMovie yet, but I plan on it. I'm saving up now for an iMac G4.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!!!!
I have always been a Windows user, but I have used Macs off and on, and liked them everytime I used one.Being an author, I decided to purchase a laptop to write on instead of using my desktop.I am very glad I decided on the Apple iBook. It is a very smooth running and beautiful machine.I especially like all the software it comes equipped with.A few weeks after buying the iBook, I purchased an iMac to replace my desktop PC, and it is just as wonderful and fun to use as the iBook.Take my advice and the advice of all the other reviewers on here who say that they love this machine. It is GREAT, and you will not regret it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless Product, Worthless Customer Service
I purchased an Apple iBook direct from Apple about a month and a half ago.About a week after I recieved it, it quit working without any notice what so ever.It would not turn on.After countless hours of talking to Apple on the phone trying to get an exchange or a refund, all I could get them to do was to repair it.I sent it in for repair and got it back about two weeks ago.Yesterday, while typing, a key fell off the keyboard, and it also decided to shut itself off and not come back on again.I spent 4-5 hours on the phone with apple again, and they just try to make everything sound okay on how much money I dished out for it and tell me all they can do is repair it again. Meanwhile, I am still paying for it.So, after owning it a whopping month and a half, it's going in for its second repair.Try and stay away from Apple. There are more duds than you think, I work with them all day.If you are one of the lucky ones to get a dud, Apple makes it your problem instead of theirs.BEWARE! ... Sony DSCF707 Cyber-shot 5MP Digital Still Camera w/ 5x Optical Zoom
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    Electronics
    list price: $1,099.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Stay ahead of the digital curve with the Sony DSC-F707. Showcasing superb functionality and some of the most advanced technology currently available, the DSC-F707 combines a 5.24-megapixel CCD, a swivel Carl Zeiss lens, hologram AF laser focus assist, and Sony's NightShot technology, which enables you to shoot infrared photos.

    Optics and Resolution
The Sony DSC-F707 features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens with 5x optical and 2x digital zoom (for a 10x total), an f2.0 maximum aperture, and a focal range of 9.7-48.5mm (equivalent to 38-190mm). It contains a 5.0-megapixel (effective) CCD, or 5.2-million gross pixels.

    More Features
The DSC-F707 uses Sony's NightShot technology, the same feature seen on Sony's camcorders, which uses infrared illumination and an infrared filter to take photos in complete darkness. The night-framing system provides infrared light as a composition assist, and utilizes hologram AF focusing and preflash exposure metering for consistently great shots even in low- or zero-light conditions.

Picture quality is enhanced with clear-color NR (noise reduction) that reduces color noise and slow-shutter NR that captures and subtracts CCD noise from long time exposures.

    Movie Mode
In movie mode, the DSC-F707 produces color digital videos in multiple creative formats, including 320 x 240 (high quality), 320 x 240 (normal), and 160 x 112. You can fill up the Memory Stick with digital video, but you are limited to 15-second movies with 320 x 240 mode. Another movielike feature is called ClipMotion, which will take 10 images and put them into an animated GIF.

The limited resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative.

    Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on Memory Sticks, Sony's proprietary memory-card format. The included 16 MB stick holds approximately 11 images at the camera's standard 5-megapixel setting (2,560 x 1,920 pixels). Memory Sticks are reusable, but if you tend to take more than 11 images per outing, then you'll want a bigger card. A 128 MB stick is a great size for this camera, storing around 70 images.

To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera--your computer should automatically recognize the camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. If you own a Sony desktop or laptop, your computer may also have a built-in Memory Stick reader, which makes transferring as easy as reading a floppy disk.

    Power
The DSC-F707 uses a proprietary rechargeable Infolithium battery (model M).

    Size
The DSC-F707 measures 4.75 by 2.75 by 6 inches and weighs 25.06 ounces with battery, Memory Stick, lens cap, and shoulder strap attached.

    Other features include:

    • Through-the-lens (TTL) preflash metering and red-eye reduction, cold-shoe and accessory terminal for HVL-F1000
    • Twilight, portrait, and landscape mode autoexposure
    • Multipattern measuring exposure system
    • 46-step shutter priority (30 sec to 1/1,000 sec)
    • 13-step aperture priority (f2.0 to f8.0)
    • Full manual exposure
    • High-speed scan autofocus
    • Manual focus ring with LCD magnifier

    Contents and Recommended Accessories
This package includes the DSC-F707 digital camera, Infolithium M battery, AC adaptor/in-camera charger, AV output cable, USB cable, shoulder strap, lens cap, 16 MB Memory Stick, printed manual, and CD-ROM featuring MGI PhotoSuite and drivers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want Rolls Royce performance on a Toyota budget...
Then this model is the camera for you :)!I got mine one week before the 717 came out and paid around 800.The drop in price w/in 30 days got my 110% difference return, so I actually got the camera for around 550!!I have since taken over 20,000 pictures, both work and home in all formats. This camera is a work horse!!I have used both the 707 and 717, and actually prefer this camera because of several small features (such as placement of the zoom button)

The focus engine and the Zeiss lens are the main reason to get this camera. Most of my pictures match what I could do with an SLR.The one problem I find is reds and purples... don't trust auto focus on these two colors.

I see a lot of folks upgrading and getting rid of these cameras and have not seen any that have "worn out" yet.Sony did a great job of engineering with this camera!!!

For examples of my pics... you can check here: http://community.webshots.com/user/houpdMost of the pics were taken with the 707..

I would personally value the camera around 350-400, but as they say.... "The more you pay, the more its worth!!"

Good luck and take lotsa pictures!!

    Jay

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Even though the camera has been out for a couple of years, don't let that make you think it's out of date. This camera is such a breeze to use that it is a joy to take pictures with.Having a pivot joint allows you to take pictures that you would have to lay on the ground for otherwise. The time between pressing the button and the picture being taken is much faster than my old Sony digital camera. All the buttons are well placed, extremely good ergonomics. This was a $1200 camera when it first came out for good reason. It is a must have for anyone looking to take quality pictures and do it with ease.

5-0 out of 5 stars How many pictures will it store?
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about.Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The Sony MSA128A 128MB Memory Stick, like most 128MB cards, will store on average 142 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 106 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera,64 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 51 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 40 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product but high price
I got this 128 MB Memory Stick because the one that came with my Sony Cybershot it's only 16Mb (only 9 pics) and this makes me believe that they intentionally give you a small chip so you buy another of their pruducts. My suggestion is to purchase a Lexar or another brand, because works as well and the price is lot cheaper, Any way I got this one and works perfectly, It's only the price why I rated only with 4 stars

The Epson Stylus Photo 2000P inkjet printer was specifically designed with the professional photographer in mind. Providing quality printing for archival photo reproduction, it prints borderless, edge-to-edge images on sizes up to 13 x 44 inches. You can print in six rich colors using drop-on-demand Micro Piezo inkjet technology, and Epson's archival ink with MicroCrystal Encapsulation keeps colors long lasting and fade-resistant. Plus, you won't be caught dry, thanks to automatic low-ink detection.

This printer has an optimum resolution of 1,440 x 720 dpi for both black and color pages. Completed images arrive in under four minutes when printed on matte paper, and under six minutes when using semi-gloss sheets. While it can handle plain bond paper, it functions best when used with professional photo papers, including archival, glossy, watercolor, and radiant white matte. Maximum paper capacity is 100 sheets or ten envelopes.

The Photo 2000P printer is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, which it accesses via either USB or parallel connections. 5-0 out of 5 stars NOTHING BETTER
There simply is no better ink-jet printer for photos at any price.Simply print a Black and White photo on Epson premium paper at high res. and you too will be a believer.
Yes, you have to use good paper, and you must calibrate and profile the printer to your scanner and monitor.
There are other brillant color printers and other borderless or wide format printers, but if you are a photographer of any skill level, you know how important shadows and shades of gray are to contrast values. This is the printer.
Try one, hold the print up to the light and try to see the droplets of ink.Follow the rules and you won't be disappointed. Don't like rules...

5-0 out of 5 stars Always Epson
I have always bought Epson printers, they have always been reliable, with sharp colourful outputs, cartridges and papers have always been at affordable prices. I am in the graphics industry and i've had my Epson Stylus photo 2000P for about a year and i still love it.

People have always asked me where I get my printing done:) I always say "I printed it at home" with a big smile on my face because I know I'm saving money

This printer can do composites as well as postscript printing using a ripper. This printer is great for anyone doing professional desktop publishing of any kind. I also recommend purchasing Epson StylusRIP software for doing any postscript work or vector graphics (printers cannot print PS or vectors without a RIP and not all printers can understand RIP, but this one does so well!). The printer works on USB and the ripper works on parallel so switching between them is so easy. I also noticed this printer doesn't run out of ink as fast as others and with the extra colour it gives very realistic outputs.

The only precaution is that you MUST use Epson paper with it. Epson has a different paper technology and using other papers with this printer tends to make the inks run.

Like new.Perfect shape and only 5 months old.All Epson papers work on with this printer. You can print from 8X10 to 13"X19" size prints. The color is spot on and the printer itself is very easy to use from turning it on to changing inks. I am selling it because I am a professional photographer that shoots and prints in black and white primarily and I have found a new black and white printer that was made exclusively for black and white printing only. I can also ship it in its original box. ... Read more

This bright-white heavyweight paper is an excellent choice for your favorite framed photos. Recommended for pictures that will be displayed under glass, properly treated Epson premium glossy photo paper offers up to 10 years of fade resistance, along with an unusually high degree of water fastness.

5-0 out of 5 stars price AND performance
I've used Epson's Premium Glossy, Colorlife and Heavyweight Matte. The Matte is far cheaper and gives beautiful results.I've actually found that I like the Matte best for framing. It has a less reflective surface and looks more 'arty' than photographic. But I wouldn't recommend it for architectural, detailed photographs.A good benefit of both the Matte and Colorlife is that they have the longest rated life without fading of any paper for use with Epson's dye based printers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for presentation/graphic printout
Epson makes great printer papers.I use Epson's matte paper almost as much as the regular inkjet paper. This paper is made for color presentation and graphic.I print out my portfolio and sample work with matte paper because it is relatively cheap to the high quality printout.I use the Epson 820 and the color print matches the monitor colors (98%) almost perfect.

For photo prints it is fine, but photos are simultaneous with glossy texture. If you like glossy photo then this is not the photo paper you would get.The colors do not jump at you nor have sharp deferential qualities that glossy can produce.Printing plain texts without color might be too wasteful (costly) for matte paper.I considered Epson the best in paper qualities over Canon, HP, Kodak and others for the quality/price.I have switched to the Canon i960 and am still using Epson's paper. It is that versatile.I tend to use the harder to find Epson double-side matte paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like a real photograph
I use this paper with an Epson Photo 960 using the "Premium glossy Photo Paper" option. It prints photos as nice as any Ive seen printed. These are great looking photos. Now if they could do something about the price. ... Read more

    Adobe Photoshop 7.0-Mac
Average Customer Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars
    CD-ROM (20 April, 2002)
    list price: $609.00

    Editorial Review

Mixed-media professionals such as photographers, Web designers, and graphic designers will not be disappointed with Adobe's latest incarnation of Photoshop. While the major difference between this and earlier versions is that Photoshop 7.0 is Mac OS X compatible, this version also successfully addresses the issues of file management, easy photo retouching, and smarter output for the Web. In addition, new, improved tools such as painting and an enhanced brush palette allow Photoshop to build on its reputation as the leading tool for image manipulators. New-school designers of wireless applications will smile when they discover that Photoshop 7.0 finally offers support for WBMP-format graphics.

Photoshop 7.0's new file management system comes in the form of a Windows Explorer-like file browser that allows users to easily sort and locate their images within various projects. Users can now organize projects by name, date, resolution, and a number of additional parameters.

The enhanced brush palette allows users to create custom brushes and save them as a preset that can be accessed from the Tool options bar. Users can easily vary different aspects of the brush by changing the hue, opacity, or flow of the brushes for pastels, oils, and charcoal. Photoshop 7.0 also introduces a new Healing Brush and Patch Tool. With this tool, users can easily "heal" their images by removing scratches, blemishes, and other imperfections while also preserving shading, lighting, and texture attributes.

Adobe has taken great strides in revamping Photoshop 7.0 to be more Web-ready than ever before. With the help of its companion software, Image Ready, users can now easily create rollovers and complex navigation bars with selected state by using the new Rollovers palette. Additional Web-ready features include enhanced Web export functions that allow designers to preview images designed for PDAs and mobile phones in the WBMP format. Users can easily create a slide show of their images and post online using the new Web Gallery. For those concerned about posting their images online, they can secure their images with the new password protection feature before sharing them.

A long overdue spell checker has finally been introduced, with wicked multilingual spell-checking capabilities.A new search-and-replace feature allows users to search and replace across different layers in the same document.

While Photoshop 7.0 introduces an impressive array of features that allow photographers and Web and graphic designers to work more effectively with Web and wireless devices, Photoshop still remains the leading tool for anyone serious about digital imaging. No other software package provides users with the ability to create such high-quality images. --Rich Ting ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product... well worth it. Better than CS, IMO.
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 was a significant leap over 6.0. One great new tool is the Liquify filter, which lets you directly manipulate images. Obviously, Photoshop is the De Facto standard for image editing, and likely always will be. Since this is the last version that works with OS 9 anyways, it's not like I could use CS (though I've tried CS, and don't particularly like it).

Version 7.0.1 is very often faster than Photoshop CS is, so it's a good thing to have for very large files.

    Invaluable... nothing beats it. Nothing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but Quality
I never had access to many Adobe products, with exception for Pagemaker, because of the high price. But at my high school we have what we they called an Academy of Graphic Arts and Design. There, with the financial help of a well known college, the academy was given a full copy of Adobe Photoshop 7.0!

I really enjoyed learning how to use Adobe Photoshop 7.0.I'm not one to read manuals or help menus and just like to play around. Learning how to use everything is fairly easy.

One feature I LOVED is what is called "layers". You can have a photo in the background and then open other files and drag and drop onto the first picture. Then you can choose to erase part of the pictures you placed on top. But not everything is erased...each layer underneath the one you are erasing is still visible! There are various erasers (shape-wise) too, so it can look blended or have neat edges.

I also liked the variety of "filters". These filters help change the picture. You can add texture to the picture, distort it, add light to a certain area, make the picture look like it on a stamp (as in rubber stamp)...the list goes on.

The one bad thing about this is you can't do "Undo except for the change you just did (meaning if you made a mistake and decided to try something to "cover it up", if you didn't like the outcome of the "fix" you can't go back and change the mistake) EXCEPT if you are layering, you go to the box where it shows each layer and go to the history where you can delete (or "undo") up until the mistake you had made is gone.

My point is, this program is Top Class. The best I have used (and I have tried a few) Although I'd like to try the Windows version, for those who have a Mac (this is the version I used and have experience with) GET THIS if you love photoediting. The possiblities are endless.

Now if only I could save up enough money...

5-0 out of 5 stars Cannot pull myself away
Photoshop 7.0 is incredible. The new paint enhancement are mindblowing.Everyone should learn how to use this program.I have been able to do so many things,Edit and enhance my own artwork and comics, make custom t-shirts, make beutiful portaits and photo collages, just let my artistic mind run wild. This program has opened a world of opportunity, and it should for you to.BUY IT, worth every penny. ... Editorial Review

Where would graphics professionals be without Visual QuickStart Guides like Photoshop 7 for Windows & Macintosh? Economically priced, they offer a lot of bang for your buck--hundreds of screen shots, all precisely annotated, step-by-step instructions for virtually every feature and menu, numerous insightful tips and sidebars, reference pages filled with keyboard shortcuts, a thorough index for pinpointing just the right problem area, and much more.

This latest entry is one of the best. The authors have the ability to clearly articulate what each tool and feature does, why you might want to use it, and how it works, all in a concise form--usually in eight steps or less. However, perhaps due to the multitool versatility of Photoshop, this QuickStart Guide may not the best starting point for all beginners. These are not tutorials that take you from simple ingredients to complex outcomes. Instead, the authors put the tools in your hands and help you discover what you can do with them on your own images. An analogy would be that this book is like a great car manual, but not necessarily the driving lessons. You have a problem in a project, look up the appropriate keywords in the index, and apply the steps to work out a solution.

For the experienced user, this is a fabulous reference to have on hand. (Especially those Mac users who've upgraded, since most screen shots are from OS X.) It takes readers through all the many parts of Photoshop: color management; resolution; making selections; compositing (moving, copying, sharpening and blurring, cloning, and more); using layers; the history palette (including using snapshots and the history brush); adjustment layers; working with color (including levels and curves and the spot color channel); painting; blending; masks; paths; type; filters; actions; preparing images for print or for exporting to other applications; optimizing for the Web; and making slices, rollovers, and animations. And new features have a "7.0!" call-out--for example, the new File Browser or the Healing Brush and the Patch tool, to quickly bring you up to speed with version 7.0. --Angelynn Grant ... Read more

And the full color section at the middle of the book that you would expect to have the color versions of some of the examples had artwork from a variety of artists.

I recommend O'Reilly's Adobe Photoshop CS One-on-One instead.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a mess..
Learn the easy way? Give me a break..Although I'm a beginner to Photoshop, I've done quite a bit of web oriented work using Dreamweaver/Fireworks..I became so disoriented reading this book, I just closed it up and returned it..Not for beginners at all.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars simply the magazine for photographers
This is the best photo mag for those of us passionate about photography. It has long in debth articles on technique and equipment. Moreover it features "how to" examples from some of the best fine art photographers of our time. It is thus quite different from other magazines that feature some no name staff writer pretending to be Paul Strand. This does make this magazine perhaps less than ideal for the first time casual shutterbug trying out his/her first pocketcam. But for all of us striving to do good photography this magazine has no peer. It is not a glossy magazine and its print quality is rather low. It is a far cry from Phototechnik International or Spoon, but it is about the creating of rather then the displaying of photographs. Having read every photomagazine in the english and german speaking worlds in the last 15 years this is the best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine!
While this magazine may not posess the high gloss pages, and gorgeous images taht are typical of photgraphy magazines, they are full of good information that rarely, if ever repeats it's self. They cover a broad range of artists so you also get views of photography from many angles.I Highly recomend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars The fift star comes when I get all the back issues!
This is a Techniques Magazine! They do not repeat themselves, so if you can find older issues around, buy them too.

Do not expect lots of inspiring pictures, only writers who know what they are talking about.

The topics are different and well chosen. They are important for the serious amateur, if he is using digital or large format.

"Shoppers' disease" is one of the many topics that other magazines stay away from. ... Read more
