Apple iBook Notebook M8603LL/A (700-MHz PowerPC G3, 256 MB RAM, 30 GB hard drive) Average Customer Review: Personal Computers US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (21)
This iBook proved itself over and over again when I traveled from the East Coast , to Hawaii, and back to the Pacific Northwest. The battery life is very good. OS X is simple and reliable.I've shown my friends in Hawaii and now they are thinking about getting a Mac too.I have the iBook next to my PC desktop at home and I find that I don't use my PC much at all. I really enjoy iPhoto and iTunes . I hav'nt done much with iMovie yet, but I plan on it. I'm saving up now for an iMac G4.

Sony DSCF707 Cyber-shot 5MP Digital Still Camera w/ 5x Optical Zoom Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $1,099.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Stay ahead of the digital curve with the Sony DSC-F707. Showcasing superb functionality and some of the most advanced technology currently available, the DSC-F707 combines a 5.24-megapixel CCD, a swivel Carl Zeiss lens, hologram AF laser focus assist, and Sony's NightShot technology, which enables you to shoot infrared photos. Optics and Resolution More Features Picture quality is enhanced with clear-color NR (noise reduction) that reduces color noise and slow-shutter NR that captures and subtracts CCD noise from long time exposures. Movie Mode The limited resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative. Storage and Transfer To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera--your computer should automatically recognize the camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. Epson Stylus Photo 2000P Inkjet Printer Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $899.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The Epson Stylus Photo 2000P inkjet printer was specifically designed with the professional photographer in mind. Providing quality printing for archival photo reproduction, it prints borderless, edge-to-edge images on sizes up to 13 x 44 inches. You can print in six rich colors using drop-on-demand Micro Piezo inkjet technology, and Epson's archival ink with MicroCrystal Encapsulation keeps colors long lasting and fade-resistant. Plus, you won't be caught dry, thanks to automatic low-ink detection. This printer has an optimum resolution of 1,440 x 720 dpi for both black and color pages. Completed images arrive in under four minutes when printed on matte paper, and under six minutes when using semi-gloss sheets. While it can handle plain bond paper, it functions best when used with professional photo papers, including archival, glossy, watercolor, and radiant white matte. Maximum paper capacity is 100 sheets or ten envelopes. The Photo 2000P printer is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, which it accesses via either USB or parallel connections. It measures 21 by 30.3 by 16.3 inches and weighs just 18.5 pounds. A standard one-year limited warranty is included and supplemented by the Epson Exchange Program. ... Read more Features Reviews (24)
People have always asked me where I get my printing done:) I always say "I printed it at home" with a big smile on my face because I know I'm saving money This printer can do composites as well as postscript printing using a ripper. This printer is great for anyone doing professional desktop publishing of any kind. I also recommend purchasing Epson StylusRIP software for doing any postscript work or vector graphics (printers cannot print PS or vectors without a RIP and not all printers can understand RIP, but this one does so well!). The printer works on USB and the ripper works on parallel so switching between them is so easy. I also noticed this printer doesn't run out of ink as fast as others and with the extra colour it gives very realistic outputs. The only precaution is that you MUST use Epson paper with it. Epson has a different paper technology and using other papers with this printer tends to make the inks run.

Epson S041286 Premium Glossy Photo Paper (8.5"x11", 20 Sheets) Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $19.99 -- our price: $15.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review This bright-white heavyweight paper is an excellent choice for your favorite framed photos. Recommended for pictures that will be displayed under glass, properly treated Epson premium glossy photo paper offers up to 10 years of fade resistance, along with an unusually high degree of water fastness. Compatible with Epson's archival-quality Durabright inks, the sheets produce optimal results when used with one of Epson's stylus photo printers. This paper's extraordinary thickness is designed to provide the feel of a traditionally printed photo while maintaining the ultimate in color-saturated richness. Contrast, brightness, and finely detailed resolution are all outstanding. The high gloss surface is quick-drying and resistant to smudges. Each package contains 20 8.5-by-11-inch sheets, which should be protected from light and air upon opening. ... Read more Features Reviews (38)
For photo prints it is fine, but photos are simultaneous with glossy texture. If you like glossy photo then this is not the photo paper you would get.The colors do not jump at you nor have sharp deferential qualities that glossy can produce.Printing plain texts without color might be too wasteful (costly) for matte paper.I considered Epson the best in paper qualities over Canon, HP, Kodak and others for the quality/price.I have switched to the Canon i960 and am still using Epson's paper. It is that versatile.I tend to use the harder to find Epson double-side matte paper.

Adobe Photoshop 7.0-Mac Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (20 April, 2002) list price: $609.00 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Mixed-media professionals such as photographers, Web designers, and graphic designers will not be disappointed with Adobe's latest incarnation of Photoshop. While the major difference between this and earlier versions is that Photoshop 7.0 is Mac OS X compatible, this version also successfully addresses the issues of file management, easy photo retouching, and smarter output for the Web. In addition, new, improved tools such as painting and an enhanced brush palette allow Photoshop to build on its reputation as the leading tool for image manipulators. New-school designers of wireless applications will smile when they discover that Photoshop 7.0 finally offers support for WBMP-format graphics. Photoshop 7.0's new file management system comes in the form of a Windows Explorer-like file browser that allows users to easily sort and locate their images within various projects. Users can now organize projects by name, date, resolution, and a number of additional parameters. The enhanced brush palette allows users to create custom brushes and save them as a preset that can be accessed from the Tool options bar. Users can easily vary different aspects of the brush by changing the hue, opacity, or flow of the brushes for pastels, oils, and charcoal. Photoshop 7.0 also introduces a new Healing Brush and Patch Tool. With this tool, users can easily "heal" their images by removing scratches, blemishes, and other imperfections while also preserving shading, lighting, and texture attributes. Adobe has taken great strides in revamping Photoshop 7.0 to be more Web-ready than ever before. With the help of its companion software, Image Ready, users can now easily create rollovers and complex navigation bars with selected state by using the new Rollovers palette. Additional Web-ready features include enhanced Web export functions that allow designers to preview images designed for PDAs and mobile phones in the WBMP format. Users can easily create a slide show of their images and post online using the new Web Gallery. For those concerned about posting their images online, they can secure their images with the new password protection feature before sharing them. A long overdue spell checker has finally been introduced, with wicked multilingual spell-checking capabilities.A new search-and-replace feature allows users to search and replace across different layers in the same document. While Photoshop 7.0 introduces an impressive array of features that allow photographers and Web and graphic designers to work more effectively with Web and wireless devices, Photoshop still remains the leading tool for anyone serious about digital imaging. No other software package provides users with the ability to create such high-quality images. --Rich Ting ... Read more Reviews (4)
I really enjoyed learning how to use Adobe Photoshop 7.0.I'm not one to read manuals or help menus and just like to play around. Learning how to use everything is fairly easy. One feature I LOVED is what is called "layers". You can have a photo in the background and then open other files and drag and drop onto the first picture. Then you can choose to erase part of the pictures you placed on top. But not everything is erased...each layer underneath the one you are erasing is still visible! There are various erasers (shape-wise) too, so it can look blended or have neat edges. I also liked the variety of "filters". These filters help change the picture. You can add texture to the picture, distort it, add light to a certain area, make the picture look like it on a stamp (as in rubber stamp)...the list goes on. The one bad thing about this is you can't do "Undo except for the change you just did (meaning if you made a mistake and decided to try something to "cover it up", if you didn't like the outcome of the "fix" you can't go back and change the mistake) EXCEPT if you are layering, you go to the box where it shows each layer and go to the history where you can delete (or "undo") up until the mistake you had made is gone. My point is, this program is Top Class. The best I have used (and I have tried a few) Although I'd like to try the Windows version, for those who have a Mac (this is the version I used and have experience with) GET THIS if you love photoediting. The possiblities are endless. Now if only I could save up enough money...

Photoshop 7 for Windows & Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide by Average Customer Review: Paperback (16 August, 2002) list price: $24.99 -- our price: $16.49 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Where would graphics professionals be without Visual QuickStart Guides like Photoshop 7 for Windows & Macintosh? Economically priced, they offer a lot of bang for your buck--hundreds of screen shots, all precisely annotated, step-by-step instructions for virtually every feature and menu, numerous insightful tips and sidebars, reference pages filled with keyboard shortcuts, a thorough index for pinpointing just the right problem area, and much more. This latest entry is one of the best. The authors have the ability to clearly articulate what each tool and feature does, why you might want to use it, and how it works, all in a concise form--usually in eight steps or less. However, perhaps due to the multitool versatility of Photoshop, this QuickStart Guide may not the best starting point for all beginners. These are not tutorials that take you from simple ingredients to complex outcomes. Instead, the authors put the tools in your hands and help you discover what you can do with them on your own images. An analogy would be that this book is like a great car manual, but not necessarily the driving lessons. You have a problem in a project, look up the appropriate keywords in the index, and apply the steps to work out a solution. For the experienced user, this is a fabulous reference to have on hand. (Especially those Mac users who've upgraded, since most screen shots are from OS X.) It takes readers through all the many parts of Photoshop: color management; resolution; making selections; compositing (moving, copying, sharpening and blurring, cloning, and more); using layers; the history palette (including using snapshots and the history brush); adjustment layers; working with color (including levels and curves and the spot color channel); painting; blending; masks; paths; type; filters; actions; preparing images for print or for exporting to other applications; optimizing for the Web; and making slices, rollovers, and animations. And new features have a "7.0!" call-out--for example, the new File Browser or the Healing Brush and the Patch tool, to quickly bring you up to speed with version 7.0. --Angelynn Grant ...
