    Dusty Talkin' Tool Bench
Average Customer Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
    Toy

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

"Hey, buddy, let's get to work!" Dusty the Talking Tool Bench has lotsof encouraging comments for budding carpenters, delivered with a cheery cowboytwang. Dusty's molded plastic face is shown on the back of the workbench, andwhen he talks, his mouth moves, his red hardhat lights up, and his silverwrench-shaped eyebrows move up and down. Other comical talking characters areincorporated into the workbench, with bug-eyed silver nails, a red clamp withbig white teeth, and a separate hammer and saw wearing molded hardhats. The toolbench produces a total of 24 sounds and phrases powered by three AA batteries(included). Dusty even passes along some advice every carpenter lives by: "Don'tforget to put your tools away." --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No way to turn off sound
This toy would not stop talking all night and annoyed the kids to no end. There was no on/off botton to control the sound and the kids were constantly trying to get me to turn it off because it would wake them up at night.I think it scared them and they would not play with it after the first night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dusty is a Musty
I have 2 sons ages 4 & 2, & they both love this toy.It was actually a gift for my 2 year old last Christmas, but the 4 year old hardly lets him play with it.They can saw the board, & it makes saw sounds. It says really cute things, & they both giggle. This is a wonderful toy, & a perfect gift for the little builder you know aged 1-6.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Very Much Fun....
The legs of the tool bench never stay on, and the thing
keeps falling over! The tools are okay but nothing too exciting.
My 2 year old son shows very little interest in it.

    Tonka Dig N Rigs Playset
    by Atari
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    CD-ROM (27 September, 2000)
    list price: $39.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

The Tonka Dig'n Rigs Playset is one of those very rare products thatreally does educate and entertain on a parallel level. As much toy as it is apiece of software, the digger controls (steering wheel, ignition key, horn, andthree control levers) will amuse little hands for hours, while the CD-ROM worksby presenting children with a number of "jobs" or activities, and getting themto complete tasks and interact with the onscreen action. This not onlyencourages youngsters to react to instructions, but also enhances hand-to-eyecoordination and fosters an understanding of cause and effect.

It is also a superb way of introducing youngsters to the PC and keyboard. Chunky, imaginative, and, more importantly, possessing ultimate play appeal forchildren (what child ever tires of pushing buttons, turning wheels, and pullingand pushing levers?), it is a fantastic way of refining gross motor skills tothe finer level required for mice and keys.

But probably the best thing about this set, from a parental point of view, isits ease of installation and portability. Just place it over the keyboard and itslots into place. A belt then straps around the keyboard to hold it in placewhen your toddler inevitably gets excited. And, when it becomes the favorite toyof the moment, it is easy to pop in a bag and take to Grandma's (whether she hasa PC or not!). It is a superb toy and developmental aid that kids will love andparents will feel good about. --Lucie Naylor ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best game we ever bought
This game has really stood the test of time. We ordered it online about 4 years ago. It has worked everytime, entertaining all the children in the neighbourhood, including my son age 7 and daughter age 3.

I strongly recommend this game, it really is fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2+ Years Of Fun
My 4-year old has loved this game since before he was 2. He still can play it for hours and has learned to play it together with his friends. They'll take turns driving or will divide up the controls and work together as a team. Now he's introducing his younger sister to it (19 months) and she loves it as well.

Our controller has stood up to over 2 years of use.

2-0 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment!
We bought this set and my 3 boys just loved playing with it.However, it the midst of playing, a part that controls the steering wheel as it moves to the right broke off inside the playset and therefore, they cannot play the game anymore.I contacted Atari, which currently owns the game, and was disappointed when they told me I would have to purchase an entirely new game!I don't think I want to spend another $100 on this game that might just break again. ... Like the waxy eraser pads of the past, this Blue's Cluesnotebook is designed so that children can scribble, write, and evenstamp pictures on the neon orange screen, then watch their creationsdisappear with a swipe of Blue's wand. The set comes with four stamppads: a circle, spiral, X-shape, and paw print. The greendrawing stick is attached with a sturdy red cord and the assortedstamps are designed to fit in slots on the back of the notebook, makingthis a compact travel toy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Money Out the Window
We bought this toy for our 2 yr old for Christmas.Less than 1 month later, you can't write on it anymore! Our daughter adored this toy. It was her favorite out of everything else she got.She grabbed it to play along with the show and played with it constantly. She has a gentle hand with drawing so I know that she didn't wear it out.The plastic sheet won't stick to the background so it won't hold the drawn image.I am incedibly dissapointed. This was supposed to be better than those "cheapies" you buy that you draw on and lift sheet to erase.I should have gotten one of those instead. At least I wouldn't be out much money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so hot for tots
Although we realy love Blues Clues, this toy didn't work out so well. First, we lost the small stamps. They're supposed to rest in holes in the back, but my 2-year-old just didn't get the hang of it. Then we left it in the car for him to play with. It soon became unusable as the orange plastic window melted to the backing. I'd have to say that we were sorely disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than you think
Okay, this is a [reasonably priced] toy, but look how much you're paying for it. I'm giving this 5 stars, not based on the actual educational value (etc.), but on my own experience with this toy. Yeah, the eraser gets stuck like other people have said, but if you jimmy it, it works fine. The orange film on top sticks to the toy like those[money] stick pads you can get in the [reasonable priced] toy section, but is a little better made.

This is why I love this toy. One, it has lasted longer than many other birthday/Christmas toys that this mom can sadly barely recall. Two, other kids like it, not just my own. I've used this to entertain babies, energetic babies, ones that do not sit still longer than five minutes ordinarily. The babies love to repetitiously take out the pieces in the back and put them back in again. Repetition is the key, folks. Plus, it takes very little effort from an adult to entertain a baby with this.

My one-year-old loved it, and once she became a toddler, the art of finger prints, toe prints, nose prints, and regular drawing became a diversion in the car, church, and at home. We have a Magna Doodle, but this can be used for babies and you can't use objects other than magnets on the Magna Doodle, while on this toy you can use anything from the tools it comes with to your fingers. And besides, Magna Doodles get little black spots after a time that do not go away.

I love the big Magna Doodles with the tools, but I much prefer this compact drawing toy to the miniture Magna Doodles. This simply offers more options. ... Read more

With Cuisinart's handsome, compact coffee grinder, it's easy to always havefresh coffee made to exact specifications. It has a 2-1/2-ounce capacity--enough for 12cups of coffee. 2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Overfill
I thought it would go well with my new Cuisinart Coffee Maker. It seems to take longer than my old Krups unit.If you overfill it simply won't grind the beans. Once you get the hang of the amount of beans to place in, it works OK but still seems to take longer than other grinders.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
This grinder has a small capacity [not as advertised].If you follow directions, it will only grind enough for 4 cups at a time. Also, for some reason it generates a static charge and there is coffee dust all over the counter after emptying it. The cord is stiff and the cord storage is inconvienient. Finally, it is much more noisy than my old one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken in 2 months.
In order to brew a full pot of coffee one needs to grind 2 grinders full of beans. It is not until you open the box and read the instructions that you realize that it only operates properly if the grinder is half full. What I didn't see in the instructions was that it would break completely after 2 months. It is so unpleasant to use that you will wish you bought stale pre-ground coffee. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Real World: Back to New York 24/7
Not a bad book at all. It's a nice insight on what they really thought.Ever wondered what really happened between Kevin and Lori? What did the roommates think of Nicole's Bobby? What castmembers felt left out?Why did the Jisela and Malik relationship go sour? It's all in there with a lot more. Each castmember has a section in which they narrate, then they have casting exceprts. In each cast member's section, they are critiqued by their roommates and the crew. There is a section dedicated to all the drama that went down.If you liked the New Orleans season, you can catch up with that group. All in all, it's a good book.I'd definitely say it's a must-have for any "Real World" fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For Any Real World Fan!
If you're a Real World junkie and want to know every detail of what life was like in the New York house, this book is a must-have for you! No stone is left unturned! You'll find out the cast members' surprising thoughts about each other, and get to read the applications they submitted as part of the casting process. Plus, Jisela and Malik each give their own version of the fling they shared, and reveal if they think they have a future together or not. Bobby and Nicole also share their story, and other roommates give their take on it as well. And that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the shocking stuff you'll read! Honestly, I was not much of a fan of the New York season, and I mostly bought this for the updates on the New Orleans cast, which didn't disappoint! You'll be surprised by who has made amends and which cast members are now at odds in their time since leaving the Belfort. Trust me, checking this book out is worth your time!

    5-0 out of 5 stars It's Back!
I recieved this as a gift for Christmas. Being the big Real World fan I am, I read the book within a short period of time. Wow, I didn't know how much tension there was between them. Ofcorse, watching the show, you could see there were several arguments. The book goes into great detail so you can really understand what everything was about.

This book gives you everything. Cast Bios, Cast Opinions, and tells you things that you would have least expected! The only thing I wish is that it was longer, or they'd release another book on this season because I'm left wanting to know more and more.

They also included information on The New Orleans cast. Man, it seems like they all hate each other now. However, there still are some friendships still happening. Danny remains loyal to everybody. Julie and Melissa are friends. Everybody HATES David and thinks Matt is a little full of himself.

All in all, this is the #1 item for a typical Real World fan. Get it! ... Read more

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

    list price: $14.00 -- our price: $5.60

    Editorial Review

Fans of Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary will recall that at the end of that sly and funny version of Pride and Prejudice, singleton heroine Bridget landed her Mr. Darcy at last--Mark Darcy, that is. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason picks up four weeks later, and already the honeymoon is over. In addition to discovering that the man of her dreams votes conservative, left-leaning Bridget is also feeling just a mite uncomfortable with the realities of sharing bed and board with another person:

    V. complicated actually having man in house as cannot freely spend requisite amount of time in bathroom or turn into gas chamber as conscious of other person late for work, desperate for pee etc.; also disturbed by Mark folding up underpants at night, rendering it strangely embarrassing now simply to keep all own clothes in pile on floor.
But all of these problems pale to insignificance with the arrival on the scene of Rebecca, a beautiful, man-hunting arch-nemesis with "thighs like a baby giraffe" and absolutely no girlfriend code of ethics when it comes to poaching another woman's man. Before long, Rebecca's manipulations, Bridget's own insecurities, and a string of misunderstandings (starting with a naked Filipino boy in Mark Darcy's bed and ending with a suggestive valentine from Bridget's dry cleaner) result in "128 lbs. (good), alcohol units 0 (excellent), cigarettes 5 (a pleasant, healthy number), no. times driven past Mark Darcy's house 2 (v.g.), no. of times looked up Mark Darcy's name in phone book to prove still exists 18 (v.g.), 1471 calls 12 (better), no. of phone calls from Mark 0 (tragic).

Fortunately, Bridget has plenty of other problems to distract her. Her mother has returned from a trip to Kenya with a young Masai in tow--to her father's consternation; her best friends Jude, Shazzer, and Tom are all trapped in dating hell themselves; her apartment is in shambles thanks to a dotty carpenter; an unreliable ex-boyfriend has just reentered her life; and now someone is sending Bridget death threats--could it be Mark Darcy? If Bridget Jones's Diary was a modern riff on Pride and Prejudice, its sequel borrows several themes and devices (not to mention a section heading) from another Austen novel, Persuasion. And as in Austen's fiction, here the journey is the destination.A happy ending for Bridget and her pals is a foregone conclusion; how they get there, however, will have you on the edge of your chair--if you haven't already fallen off of it laughing. --Alix Wilber ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book ... Much better than the movie
I read this book way before the First Bridget Jones came out on dvd. This is a great book, and they should have been smart and made the movie about this. I wish she had more than the three books!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Edge of my reason
Well, the first book was a laught, but Bridget really does get a bit too dump for me.At her age I really expected her to have a bit more reason, and common sense. Her lack of straight forward thinking drove me up the wall in different parts of the book, and her friends became more of a nausance than a support system for her, driving her in all the wrong directions. I really had very high expectations for this book, and I have to say that allthought I enjoyed parts of it, all and all it was a drag to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hurrah!
By the time I had finished Bridget Jones's Diary, I decided that I rather liked Bridget Jones, despite her endless shallow, self-centered, annoying whining about how horrible her life was.

So when I read this book, I was fully involved in her life, once again rooting for everything to come out OK, or at least not too badly.

This book is in a somewhat similar style to the first -- that is, like a diary -- however it is far more narrative.Because there is a lot more to narrate, quite honestly!

Bridget finds herself right in the middle of a classic farce, complete with misunderstandings, miscommunications, missing letters, missed planes, and plenty of misadventures. It was all great fun, while also being very soap-opera-like, in that you couldn't wait to start the next chapter because the last one ended with a cliffhanger.

I almost couldn't put the book down until I'd found out what happens to our poor heroine.Does she finally find the man of her dreams, or at least inner poise? How about spiritual epiphany?Well, I'm not telling; you'll have to read for yourself. ... Read more

Here's a realistic toy chainsaw, made of sturdy orange plasticwith a black handle and a blue knuckle guard. The "blade" is made ofsilver-colored plastic and has a kid-safe plastic chain. The chainsawhas three blue buttons. One press-type button makes an engine-y sort ofnoise that is truly loud and could be very satisfying for the would-belogger. Luckily it stops on its own after about five seconds. So doesthe trigger-type button on the handle that makes the chain on the blademove while making more saw-like sounds. This is where the realaction of the toy is, and it sounds very much like a real chainsaw. Thistoy has some nice heft, but it isn't too heavy for a preschooler. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not ideal for cutting up bodies...
When I got this I was like, REALLY excited, because I could finally hack up all those bodies I was hiding in the garage. Much to my surprise, the thing didn't even work! All it did was make "realistic" chainsaw sounds! What good does THAT do?! None, I say! I'd be better off using the dull pocket knife that one guy used to cut half his arm off with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment for a little boy
We bought the chain saw for a 2 yr old and he loves it! He still plays with it after a year.

1-0 out of 5 stars Received this as a gag gift.... NOT funny!
My son (3) received this as a gift from my uncle who lives more than 100 miles away so he will never have to hear the racket that this toy makes. When my son opened this toy and started it up my uncle let out an evil laugh and and said "Do you wanna' kill me?!?!" He then told me that he only bought it as a joke to annoy me and gave my son his "real" gift.Anyway, this toy is waaaaaay too loud. I even think that it might exceed the acceptible decible level for a child's toy but that's just my opinion.Would I buy this toy for someone elses child? Well.... yes. Only if I was trying to pay back the parents for some type of wrong-doing, lol! Oh.... I made the batteries disappear out of this toy right after he received it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Our toddler's favorite toy
We bought this truck for my son's first b-day. At first he just piled it with toys and dumped them out. He slowly figured out how much fun it was to hold onto the back and push it around the house. It's truly his favorite toy. His friends (up to age 4) also all love this truck. We're going out to buy another one because they all fight over it!

Our son is 19 months old and we've never had a problem with him getting hit in the head with the back of the truck the way other reviews have described. I'm not saying it's not possible to get hit. He just figured out quickly the correct way to push it and play with it.

This truck is plastic and seems indestructible. Because it's plastic, it's lightweight and easy to maunever around. We think it is a great truck for both toddlers and preschoolers.

Cons: Film loading must be carefully performed away from light to avoid marks on your shots (but that's true for most cameras), and, obviously, image sharpness cannot match an autofocus P&S. Overall, a cute little thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars So good I bought it twice!
I bought this for my son when he was two (he's almost four now) because he loved to sing the Blue's Clues songs. I was not familiar with some of the shows featured (Little Bill, Kipper), because we don't watch Nick Jr., only Noggin (no commercials! but most the shows are the same), but loved it all! So fun. Eventually, he got a hold of the CD and scratched it all up, and I missed listening to it with him so much, we bought it again. Another reviewer mentioned being disapointed that Gullah Gullah songs were included, and I just want to say that if you, like me, have seen that show and found it somewhat nauseating, don't worry, the songs from Gullah Gullah Island included here are way way fun! "I love to get my haircut, yes I do! I love to get my haircut, oh you know it's true, would you like to get your haircut, too?" He even loves the instrumental songs, and instantly recognizes them "Mom! it's the Little Bear song!" Bottom line, even if you and your child don't watch all of these shows and know their songs, you will still love this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love it
My 2 & 3 year old love listening to the tape.
I am purchasing the CD online today so we can listen in the car.
My husband and I enjoy listening to it also.
    It is GREAT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Absolutely, LOVE IT
I am not only speaking for myself; my 2, 3 and yes 11 year old (even though he won't admit it) love it as well! I think that not only is this CD fun, but also educational and inspirational. Inspiration you say about a NICK JR cd? YEP. I think it encourages kids to be artistic and different. It's great. What can I say. A 33 year old baby I am. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and loves NICK JR. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The red fur will be flying with the misnamed Elmo's Dance & Learn Gamefrom Fisher-Price. First, it should be "Games"--plural; second, it's so muchmore--activity center, aerobic workout, and music appreciation course. Poweredby three AA batteries (not included), this plastic play mat, which folds up foreasy portability, features colorful renderings of Sesame Street's little redmonster and five of his pals playing instruments inside different geometricshapes. By choosing one of four different activity buttons and stepping on themat's pressure sensors, youngsters can learn their shapes from Elmo's voice, attempt to follow a shape sequence as announced by Elmo, play a programmed song,or "jam" with Elmo as little feet step on instrument shapes to create their owntune. Between the cacophony and the calisthenics, Elmo's Dance & Learn Gamemakes it a tough call as to who will drop first--the parent or the kid. -- Tony Mason ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not a big hit
I thought my daughter at age 2 1/2 would go crazy for this toy. It has spent much time under the bed! The sound is loud and not very clear. She likes the concept but the noise bugs her. She dances with her ears covered. Wish it got more use for the money we spent on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!!!
This is the perfect toy for any toddler. If your child is like my nephew, that not only loves music, but loves to dance as well. This is a great present. I bought it for my nephew for his birthday & he won't stop playing with it. It keeps him entertained & very active. I reccomend this toy. & yes I will admit it I have played with it too. Now that I come to think about it everyone that has visited my house has played with it too. =o) ... Read more
