    Editorial Review

Designed to catapult your body into a state of fat meltdown, Dr. Atkins's diet has taken America by storm. It targets insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. The bodies of most overeaters are continually in a state of hyperinsulinism; their bodies are so adept at releasing insulin to help convert excess carbohydrates to fat that there's always too much of the hormone circulating through the body. This puts the body into a bind; it always wants to store fat. Even when people with hyperinsulinism try to lose weight--especially when they cut fat but increase carbohydrate consumption--their efforts will fail. This is why Dr. Atkins refers to insulin as "the fat-producing hormone."

Dr. Atkins's diet is extremely low in carbohydrates, which helps to regulate insulin production and decrease circulating insulin; less insulin soon results in less fat storage and fewer food cravings. The diet is far from torturous, though--those who've tried it attest that hunger is not a part of this plan. Ninety percent of Dr. Atkins's patients--more than 25,000 of them--have experienced dramatic weight loss. The book includes recipes for such luscious, low-carb dishes as lobster soup, zabaglione, sea bass, and blueberry ice cream, and even includes a carbohydrate gram counter and menus. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 years later and it's still the best thing I've ever
done for myself. I (female) started in Jan 2003 at age 32, 5'11", 254 lbs with a laundry list of ailments (Acid reflux, painful heels & back, headaches, high blood pressure and was pre-diabetic). In my first 6 months all of my aches and pains disappeared and in my first year I lost 71 lbs. Right now I've lost a total of 104 lbs and have NEVER felt better! I'm 16 lbs under my goal weight and maintaining this lifestyle is second nature now. I get all of my carbs from healthy vegetables, fruits, and nuts.

Dr. Atkins literally saved my life and I just wish he was around to thank in person!

I owe everything to the good Dr. A!

2-0 out of 5 stars Tuna eaters beware
I did The Atkin's Diet two years ago. I lost 20 pounds in a month. But after a year things started to go terribly wrong. I begain having horrible syptoms of food allergy. But testing showed I had none. I went to doctor after doctor and they all told me I was crazy. I finally had no choice ,but to do research on my own. I discovered a web site about Mercury Poisoning. I had all the classic syptoms and none of the docotrs I saw had any clue. I found a company that did testing by hair samples. I ordered the test and bingo, I'm posative for higher levels of Mercury. And it was from eating so much canned tuna while on the Atkins Diet. I'm not blaming the diet plan itself, but he does recommend eating tuna. I wouldn't go there if I were you.

5-0 out of 5 stars yOU WILL UNDERSTAND IF YOU READ THE BOOK
There has been such controversy around Dr Atkins and his diet.

I can bet a dollar to a doughnut the people arguing about it have not read the book.

He explains how in the last 50-100 years the diet of average people has changed and how our lifelong diets have affected our bodies.

Many people become hypoglycemic (like me) in later life, and/or develop Type 2 diabetes (like me).

Our diets and genetics are often the culprit. Even those of us with a genetic leaning towards obesity, Dr atkins explains what we can do He goes nto detail for several areas where people may have problems

The difference between this diet and ANY other is KETOSIS! When we are in Ketosis (we have used up our carbs and use our own fat for energy) we have an incredible edge.

I feel great , sleep less, and am not as hungry He explains the truth about fat (why we can have butter, and sour cream and nuts on this diet)

After eating all this fat, my chloresterol went down 90 points and triglycerides?
My doctor was astonished :D) Whenever I hear someone talking about their "HERO", I think of Dr Atkins ... Read more

Dr. Atkins' New Carbohydrate Gram Counter has a slightly misleading name. While grams of carbohydrate are listed for various foods, there are also protein and fat grams listed for each entry. With more than 1,200 listings, including hundreds of brand-name products, this makes a handy, portable reference. It should be noted, however, that that the Gram Counter is really meant as a companion to Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution; the brief dietary information included in the introduction to the Gram Counter isn't of much use by itself. ... I should have purchased this book from the beginning! What a savior it has been.Shipping was quick and the book is in excellent condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars The TRUTH about Dr. Atkins death
It is astonishing to read the slam pieces here about Dr. Atkins so-called obesity and overweight condition at the time of his death. Here are the facts:
    * He previously had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy -- a serious disease of the heart muscle which is unrelated to diet.
    * He died of a head injury because of an accident falling on slippery ice and not of being overweight.
    * His actual weight was 200 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital at the time of his accident. The erroneous reports of him weight 258 lbs was based on his weight at the time of his death. The extra weight was not fat, but an accumulation of body fluids linked to organ failure during his coma.
    * His previous reported heart attack was due to a viral infection and not diet related. He spoke openly of his condition on various national news programs.
    * The report that was released about him being overweight was leaked to the press by a group named "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine", which is an ardent opponent of the Atkins diet. In short, they distorted his weight by reporting the weight at the time of death - 258 lbs, and not at the time of his admittance - 200 lbs...an obvious attempt to discredit and distort the facts surrounding Dr. Atkins death.
    * A formal complaint has been filed by the Medical Examiner of New York regarding the suspicious leak of this information to the public by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine."
    * The disinformation surrounding Dr.Atkins untimely death is politically driven by the AMA and other detractors of the diet.

Dr. Atkins book, New Diet Revolution has turned the AMA and other nutritional views upside down and has created a furor over the standard edicts of the medical profession. What is not said among the detractors of the Diet is that it is safe and it works. The information contained in this book will not only help you lose weight, it could save your life. The food industry, especially the bread and pasta industry have lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of the low carb revolution. Is it any wonder that this diet is under so much fire? Keep an open mind and read the book.

As a side note, ignor the mumbo-jumbo rantings and ravings of the "Elixir Diet" system (see below). The hatred and mis-information spread by the reviewer is evidence enough that the Elixir system is phony as a three cent penny. Nuff said. The guy hasn't even read the Atkins book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pointless
This whole Atkins craze is getting pretty ridiculous right now. Carbohydrates are not the problem people, do you still not get it? You gain weight from excessive eating of ANYTHING (if you eat 40 pounds of oranges you're going to gain weight from that too). Exercise and moderation is the key. Good grief, even Aristotle knew this, yet 2300 years later people still don't believe it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Atkins Accountability
This handy-dandy little book is an important accoutrement for the Atkins aficionado, forcing you to write down everything eaten. So, one finds oneself asking: do I really want that donut bad enough to have to dig out the book and write it down? By that time, the craving will have passed ;-) In addition to the daily tally, there is a Weekly Reckoning wherein one must weigh and measure oneself. Not as momentous as those contestants on the new Reality TV "the Big Loser," but still and all, an incentive to program compliance (Wednesday is coming! No french fry for me!)
Several years ago, I "did Atkins" down 90 lbs. It works! Unfortunately, I back-slid my way back up and am starting over. (Down 40 lbs in 3 1/2 months)
A note to novices: You Need to Read, understand, and follow the directions in the Big Book (Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution) first.

    Editorial Review

The 2-in-1 technology of the Tanita Ultimate body-fat monitorand scale means a more precise evaluation of your overall health. Inaddition to measuring pounds, the scale determines body-fat percentagewith an at-home version of bioelectrical impedance analysis, the samemethod doctors use. Here's how it works: when you activate the body-fatmonitor, the scale transmits safe, low-level electrical signals throughyour body and measures how quickly they travel. Readings display inone-percent increments and take into account your age, gender, andheight. Programming on this model is very straightforward with simplebuttons, clear prompts, and an easy-to-read display. Though notcalibrated for very fit individuals or athletes, the scale does have aweight-only option and a 300-pound capacity. Tanita includes apound/kilogram option, automatic shut-off, a battery indicator, anddetailed instructions. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Infuriating device is a huge hassle
You have to get on your knees and enter in a plethora of information every time you want to check your body fat--it is incapable of storing even 1k worth of data.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good product but lacks a few things
I have been using it for almost a year now. Over all I like it a lot. Here is what I think is good or bad in it:

    Pros:
    1. Measuring Weight (that's what its supposed to do and should be good at... right!). If you are planning to loose weight you can watch your weight go down over days in 1/2 lb steps.
    2. Doesn't loose its calibration (some other weight scales require calibration).
    3. You can measure body fat (not very accurate though)
    4. Its gentle on batteries so they last for a long time.

    Cons:
    1. Body fat measurement is very inaccurate even if you fall with in the specified weight and height limits. They can be completely off if you use this scale after taking a shower.
    2. You can't store the weight or body fat trends (yeep keep a log book handy if you want to record your weight).
    3. Body fat measurement could be some what difficult to set up. Controls could have been easier than how they are.

    Overall a very good product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated!
I got this scale because I read that it would store previous measurements to track your weight history. After reading the manual, it apparently does not do that.

Additionally, according to the manual the scale's body fat measurement does not work properly if you are considered "athletic" or "fit", which makes that feature useless for me. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

The indispensable workhorse of any cutlery collection, a cook's knife performs a wide variety of cutting tasks, from fine chopping to dicing and slicing. The heavy 8-inch blade of this definitive model provides enough heft to allow the knife rather than the cook to do the cutting labor, but is more maneuverable than larger models. The length of the cutting edge makes quick work of all slicing jobs. If you don't yet own a cook's knife, or want the best investment for your dollar, this 8-inch model, which combines size with ease of use, is the one to choose.

Part of the Classic series, this knife represents two centuries of unexcelled Wüsthof craftsmanship. Like other cutlery in the series, it's hand-forged from a single piece of stainless steel for maximum strength; the hand-polished blade is exactingly calibrated to be hard enough to resist dulling yet soft enough to take a keen edge when it's honed or sharpened. Dishwasher-safe and with a traditionally shaped, ergonomically designed handle that is triple-riveted for durability, this knife brings a guaranteed lifetime of low-maintenance cutting to any cook who owns it. --Arthur Boehm ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Higly Used, High Quality
A chefs knife will be your most used Knife in your collection. Why would you want to pay a lot of money for one?Expensive, high quality knifes hold their edge (sharpness) longer. After almost 6 months of daily use, mine needed sharpened ($3 for a professional to sharpen it).You should also invest in a honing steel. This will not sharpen your knife, it will only realign the blade and keep it sharper longer.

Before you buy any knife though, feel it in your hand. The weight should be evenly balanced. You hold the knife with your hand wrapped around the handle, with your thumb and forefinger on the blade. This will feel weird at first, but you will have a lot of control.A knife that "feels right" to me, may not for you.

The first time I used this knife, I was amazed at how easy it cut through chicken. No sawing action was needed, just a gentle push.

Be wary of buying a knife set.The next most used knife you will own will be a paring knife. After these two knifes, the quality of the rest is not as important. Each knife should feel comfortable to you though.

After owning this knife for a year I also purchased a 10 inch ("wide" model) Wusthof Chefs knife.A longer blade means less work and faster chopping. The 8 inch now feels small to me ;)

A sharp knife is safer than a dull one.Be careful with your non cutting hand, I sliced my lower knuckle a few times when first using this.Hold the item you are cutting with your pinky (smallest) finger and thumb. The tips of your other fingers should be curled out of the way.The knife rests flat against your curled fingers.Go slow, you will eventually get the feel for it.

So, before investing in a high quality knife, try out different models and manufacturers. These knives will last a lifetime (and probably your children's).You will not be disappointed with Wusthof if you decide to buy these knives.

5-0 out of 5 stars No good cook should be without one of these
This review is principally for those who, like me, believe that you can get good quality without spending a lot of money, or who are just plain averse to spending a lot of money on anything.

If this describes you, and if you like to cook, I have this to say:Sometimes, you do have to spend money to get good quality.Or, for the really averse: Get over it.

A general-purpose knife is an essential tool for any cook. You can certainly get the job done with the cook's knives that come with the butcher-block sets you find in most stores for under $100--the ones with the polished stainless-steel blades or the serrated edges and the lifetime warranties. You may even find a set that includes a knife that makes cutting, slicing and chopping easy. But you will soon find that either your cook's knife can't keep a sharp edge or requires too much effort to cut things. In either case, you will soon find yourself looking for a new set of knives.

For the price of one of those butcher block sets, you can buy this knife instead. You won't regret it.One really good cook's knife, like this Wusthof, is worth all those other knives in your butcher block put together. The combination of excellent balance, weight and fine edge make chopping and slicing a breeze.(Another reviewer mentioned techniques that give you even more control of the knife.) And with proper care, this knife will give you a lifetime of pleasure in the kitchen.

Cook's knives are one product category where the costlier items are really the better values. The Wusthof Classic knife is worth every penny of the $120 suggested retail, which makes it a real bargain at Amazon.com's price of under $90.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome
I've been reading about, & drooling over, various high end kitchen items for a few months: Le Creuset, Wusthof, etc. And reading all the consumer reviews. Recently, I finally sprang for a set of Wusthof knives that I got at a good price on one of the auction sites. So far, the only knife I've used is the 8" Classic chef's knife. After 20-30 years of using cra*ppy kitchen knives, this was.......like a revelation. It's easy to think all these rave reviews are somewhat hyperbole; but they're not. Comparing this knife to any of my old beat-up knives is like comparing a Porsche 911 Turbo to a 10 year old Hyundai. BTW, I sprang for the 10 pc. Classic set. I'm still not sure if that was a good idea, or if I should have just gotten the 8" chefs knife & saved a couple of hundred $$. But the thing is, if you want even 3 or 4 of the items in one of the sets, like the "big" oak block for instance, maybe the bread knife, or whatever, it really starts to add up (to a lot more) when you buy everything seperately. So, to me, just buying a big set to begin with made sense: even if you don't use all of the knives that much, you've got that cool carving knife for the one or 2 times a year you'll use it. But if you had to pick only one knife, probably the 8" chefs knife would be "it". ... Read more

Built with edge-grain construction, this durable wooden cutting board from Wüsthof is a solid staple for the kitchen. The board is reversible for years of use and crafted from maple hardwoods for durability and good looks. The rounded edges make it easy to grab off a kitchen cart, while the flat surface is ideal for breads, vegetables, fruit, sandwiches, and cheeses. 3-0 out of 5 stars Care for it...
And it will not warp, as another reviewer mentioned. There ARE instructions, they are on the little label sticker, though I can understand how they could be missed.I haven't even oiled mine, and it isn't warped or cracked. You can't dishwash it or soak it (also mentioned on the label) so that may be the cause of some people's cracking.I air dry it, lying it face down against any minor warping and this helps as well.

That said, it is too much work, and I would be skeptical of using it on meat due to not being able to as thoroughly wash it and to the cracks/seams. Glad it was free.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless - unworthy of the Wusthof name
I purchased this board with a set of Wüsthof knives. The knives were excellent - I have since purchased more - but the board was a disaster. It warped almost immediately - hardly surprising perhaps as it is thin. Quite possibly I did not care for it properly, for example by oiling it or whatever, but then again there were no instructions included relating to any necessity for that sort of treatment.

I would by a butcher's block in future, rather than one of these things. As a general chopping platform I would suggest going for a good quality plastic board, as it will not dull your knives nor be a pain to look after. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NO REASON TO COMPLAIN
The only reason i give it a 4 is becuase i would of liked a size in between the smallest one and the next size. Besides that and the fact that it is a little hard to put the lid on. But not extremely hard. And i prefer a tight fit than a loose one, which i have owned before. I would recommend it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Missing lids
I just returned from vacation and opened the 22 piece Select Rubbermaid set.Three of the number 12 round lids were missing, but other than that I love the set.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great deal!
I can't believe this set is only $10!We bought a set, and we use it for everything. We love it.The variety of sizes ensures we always have a size available for our storage needs. Not only do we pack our fridge with these things, but I use them to take food to work as well. The only reason why this set doesn't rate a five is because of the awful lids. The big tabs are supposed to make them easy to remove, but that is often not the case.I've hurt my fingers a number of times on those things. And closing the lids can be quite tricky as well. But for $10, it's still completely worth it.A good bet for a gift for newlyweds or a recent grad moving out on his/her own. ... Winter or summer, no Southerner will be found without a glass of icedtea in hand. With Bodum's Ceylon ice tea pitcher, brewing a superlative freshversion of this beverage is a breeze even for the Mason-Dixon-challenged amongus. Simply place tea leaves in the brewing column, pour a few ounces of boilingwater over them, fill the jug with cold water, and leave it in the fridge. Thenext morning, add lemon and sugar and start counting the hours until it's timeto switch to juleps; you don't even have to remove the leaves in order to pour.Bodum's classic design makes this an attractive serving pitcher as well.--Mary Park ... 3-0 out of 5 stars not what i expected
i bought this teamaker because i interpreted the description to mean that it somehow brewed iced tea more easily than the usual boil-the-water-cool-it-off method.i found that the overnight in cold water method recommended makes really uninteresting tea.i started using the traditional boiling water method.

since i bought this two years ago, i have had none of the problems more recent users have mentioned.the plastic on my model seems quite sturdy, so i suspect even bodum has succumbed to cheap manufacturing in the interim.

as a convenient pitcher to cool and store iced tea in, its nice.and removing the tea leaves after brewing is simple with the insert--no need to juggle two containers and a seive.but it certainly isn't a clever, easier way to make iced tea.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
This pitcher does what it says, but after using it for a few months I have to wonder if this pitcher is special enough to warrant the price. The 'pull in-pull out' compartment that holds tea bags or lemons is nice. But the plastic is so thin after a few uses it starts to warp out of shape. If youre not supposed to pour hot water in the pitcher, what is the point of using it?I really like the slim-ness of the pitcher overall (fits in the fridge well), and I don't mind its small capacity, but its overall fragile build leaves me wishing the manufacturers would have just created something more sturdy.I'd say someone is better off just brewing tea in a regular tupperware pitcher for half the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and handy, at a good price!
A nice product--I have the 50 oz. version, and bought 2 more as gifts. It STILL isn't big enough! No recipes or instructions in the box, but here are instructions from Bodum's website:

We enjoy a natural and sensual drink for what it is and not for what it has been turned into through domestic science and obscure ingredients. Nature itself provides the most delightful tastes, and tea is one of them. Making ice tea in a natural way may not be as fast as opening a bag of powder and mixing it with water, but if you are conscious about what you fill your body with, the Bodum Ceylon Ice Tea Maker is a true, relatively simple to use, alternative. Add your preferred tea leaves into the filter. Pour 3 to 4 oz of boiling water over the leaves, and fill the jug with cold water from the tap. Close the lid, and leave the tea jug in the fridge overnight. The next morning you will have a tasty iced tea. If you want it really cold pour the tea into glasses filled with ice. The SAN plastic tea maker holds 50 oz and will fit in most fridge door shelves, and we don't need to say that it is dishwasher safe. ... Read more

This German company has been making scales since 1868 and has a great deal of expertise behind the production of each one. This Food Control diet computer scale weighs foods precisely in either imperial (pounds/ounces) or metric (grams/kilograms) systems of measurement. However, for those who are attempting to follow a strict diet, this diet computer also can supply the nutritional value, energy value, and density of 425 different foods. Simply place the food in question on the hygienic stainless-steel weighing platform and punch in the correct food code according to the enclosed chart. Next press the corresponding button for calculating either the carbohydrate, fat, or protein value or kilojoules, kilocalories, or cholesterol of the food. If you forget, you can use the recall buttons to remember nutritional values for specific foods or recall nutritional values for what you’ve eaten over a period of time. A volume key lets you switch over to weigh liquids as well. The Food Control weighs up to 4 pounds, 6-1/2 ounces or 2 kilograms. This diet computer comes with a replaceable longlife lithium battery (estimated to last 20 years) and is guaranteed by Soehnle for up to 3 years from the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde ... 5-0 out of 5 stars We like it!
My six-year-old can manipulate this lunchbox just fine.It is fairly large so can hold a lot. However, it fills up her junior-size backpack. She's a huge SpongBob fan, so it's just onelittle thing to make going to school fun!I am buying a second one in case we lose it or it doesn't wear well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Quality in Question
It is cute looking but very awkward for a child to open and close. The plastic lining keeps getting stuck in the zipper teeth when you try to close it. If it's difficult for me I can only imagine what my daughter will suffer at busy lunchtime. Also, the ridicuously tiny drink bottle broke upon opening it for the first time. No, it's not of the same durability as ametal lunchbox but I still feel for $12.95 plus shipping I should get something that works.

This sleek little pedometer calculates steps taken, distancecovered, and time elapsed, so you can forget the numbers and just relaxto the radio. Customizable for weight and stride length, the pedometerfeatures dual motion sensitivity, so it's accurate whether you'rejogging or walking. A motivating beep tone gives feedback about speedand can help pace the course of a workout. The FM radio activates whenyou insert headphones and includes a station scanner and volumecontrol. Constructed with a waistband clip and a protective hingedcase, the device is convenient, lightweight, and unobtrusive. Thefunction buttons are a bit on the small side, but the LCD screen issurprisingly readable. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great pedometer for the money invested
I was surprised to open this pedometer page after sometime and see all the negative reviews it receives. I have been using this specific model for more than 3 months now and I am really satisfied with it. It is really accurate (<1% declination, I have performed more than four tests of more than 400 steps during different times of its life and I have seen a couple of cheap pedometers performing much worse), clips firmly to belt or pants, displays the time conveniently and has nice backlight, even has a radio which works, although as most people said, not really its best feature. The truth is that I am not using the radio at all, mostly because I believe the batteries will last longer and it will save me from extra trips to Walmart. But I have tested it and it works, although nothing impressive there. Of course, for the money, I think you cannot go wrong with this pedometer.

One funny comment is that, although most people complain it cannot open very easily, after sometime it will open more easily that you think. Actually it has been a couple of times where putting a bag on my shoulders or a waist pouch and applying some pressure on it by mistake, will open it wide, so it does not count any steps. But it does not open by itself anyway, needs external force for this to happen, so it does not happen often.

All in all, I am sure that the plastic construction and the less than rigorous production testing will result in many pieces that do not function properly and will result in bad reviews. Maybe I have been lucky, maybe not, but this has been one of the best and most reliable devices that I carry and use every day. And a great incentive for walking and exercising more.

1-0 out of 5 stars Minus one star for this product
This product is worthless. Save yourself the hassle and frustration of trying to get the radio and readouts to work and buy something else.

I've never been able to get the radio to work properly and the counters have gone blank. I'm really surprised that Amazon continues to sell this item with such terrible reviews continuing to come in.

1-0 out of 5 stars Price is cheap and so is the product
The radio actually never worked on this pedometer, which was OK as that was really an 'added bonus'. However the pedometer itself has stopped working after two months of use. It hasn't been dropped, it hasn't got wet...it has just stopped. Perhaps it is the batteries, but it's such a plastic, little toy, I don't want to waste the money on buying new batteries. You get what you pay for. ... Read more

The Good Carb Cookbook: Secrets of Eating Low on the Glycemic Index
    by Sandra Woodruff
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars

    Editorial Review

One bad carbohydrate can't spoil the whole batch, but studies show that too many of the "wrong kinds" can lead to a slew of nasty health conditions, including obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Sandra Woodruff, author of several bestsellers (including Secrets of Fat-Free Cooking and Secrets of Cooking for a Long Life) goes far beyond the realm of breads and pastas to offer a comprehensive look at nutrition, followed by a trove of carbo-smart recipes. Healthy eating, Woodruff asserts, requires keen attention to the glycemic index (GI), "a ranking of foods based on their potential to raise blood sugar levels." By choosing foods that rank low on the GI, and balancing higher GI foods with protein, she says, individuals will achieve better overall health. While the first section reads a bit like a college text (heavy with charts, grams, and serving sizes, plus all the numbers associated with the glycemic index), Woodruff gracefully applies this knowledge to real-life scenarios. Her meal-planning and dining-out tips accommodate a wide variety of eating habits and cuisines, with ample hints for hearty eaters, snackers, sweet-tooth sufferers, and those who enjoy international fare. More than 200 recipes include options for vegetarians, meat-and-potato types, adventurous chefs, and keep-it-simple cooks, without calling attention to any such stereotype. Two minor beefs: teaspoon and tablespoon appear in their unabbreviated forms, potentially making for easy errors; also, a fancy typeface makes reading the ingredients somewhat tricky. --Liane Thomas ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A cookbook for the real world
Cheap paper? Don't worry about it. Use the book, get stains on it, buy another one. I have a slew of cookbooks, especially for Diabetes and Carb cooking. This book has it where it really counts --> the food is delicious! Plus, the ingrediants exist in the real world. The food is super healthy, but 'normal'... my kids have enjoyed everything I've cooked so far; they don't even suspect it is 'health food'. Out of 30 cookbooks that I have tried, this one and "Quick and Healthy" are the two best cookbooks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed My Life for Good
I've always struggled with good eating habits until encountering this book.Of course I made the conscious decision to make a positive change in my life but this book helped pave the way.In addition to the many easy and tasty recipes, Ms. Woodruff plainly conveyed the science of food and its good & bad effects on the human body.Given the current low-carb craze, I was pleased to learn that there are "good" carbs and eating right doesn't have to mean deprivation.Take it from someone who lived on a totally undisciplined diet and whose mantra is "fat is flavor", the recipes in this book are pretty darn good and quick and easy to make.THANK YOU Ms. Woodruff for sharing your expertise and changing my life!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry I bought it....
The quality of the paper in this book is very poor - its that yellow newsprint paper, no pictures, not the quality of other books this price.I bought three books on the same topic and this one was the only one that was a disappointment. Its hard to read the print because the paper is so dark and the print is small. It does have lots of information and recipes, but I haven't read them yet and probably won't. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars YUCK!Only Drs could author a cookbook this bland!
I had this book on my wish list and was excited to receive it for my birthday. But I am soo dissapointed!

It is a visually unappealing, cheap quality printed book with a poor layout. So bland vanilla, I don't even *want* to look for a recipe in it!Even if a cookbook isn't filled with graphic illustrations or full-color photos, it can still have an easy-to-read layout, but this book is nothing but run-on recipes and uneccesary opinions by the Drs.It appears as if they simply wrote in a word document file and printed it - no setup, no flow.Bleck.Cooking should be art, just because it's low-carb, doesn't mean it has to be uninviting or lifeless. As my husband (Marketing) says, only a Dr could make a cookbook so sterile!

Other than that, the recipes are good but it's so unpleasant to look at - I'm giving the book to Goodwill.

3-0 out of 5 stars good but not the best
Nice recipes and easy to follow, but lacks the humor of books by by Dana Carpender,She is an expert on low carb coooking, ned both!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the Money!
If you are seriously incorporating low carb foods into your lifestyle, this book is excellent. There is such a wide range of great recipes to choose from. The "Magic Rolls" recipe (delicious, fluffy bread!)was worth the full price of the book in itself. The authors include a nice review and explanation of some of the less-familiar ingredients, as well as a few sources for purchasing these items. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. I also highly recommend Dana Carpender's low carb cookbooks. ... Read more
