3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The International Artists Magazine
It's a joy to see this publication in the mail box. There is some article of interest for every artist no matter their choice of medium. Great colorful pages of art & interviews by artists all over the world. If I could choose only one, International Artist would be "it".

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT ENOUGH TECHNIQUE DETAIL
The pantings are nice and colorful and mostly in oil but not enough technique shown to really be of help.

1-0 out of 5 stars mixes editorial content and commerce
I bought a copy of this magazine and initially enjoyed a great deal of it, but ultimately found it distasteful. It was graphically hyperactive, which became distracting and irritating, and there was something else that didn't seem quite right, though at first I couldn't identify just what that was.Eventually I realized that it wasn't making a clear distinction between the editorial content and commerce (items offered by companies advertizing in the magazine, workshops sponsored by the magazine, books sold by the publisher of the magazine).Eventually I figured out that the publisher was Australian. If Rupert Murdoch is any guide, then this magazine is coming from a tradition that doesn't respect boundaries between journalism and financial gain.I ended up putting this magazine aside in distaste. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
This is an excellent publication, however I suggest that you purchase it online from the Ceramics Mo folks or fill out one of their subscription cards. The price from the Amazon folks is one and a half times more expensive than buying it direct! The yearly subscription rate is $24. TWO YEAR subscription is only $40...just $3.00 more than thru Amazon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sumptuous!
Ceramics Monthly offers articles featuring influential international ceramic artists, sumptuous photographs, and current information on residencies, fellowships and grants. There is a good representational mix of abstract and functional, pottery and sculpture.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not the best
A year ago I decided to tear out my old workshop and start all over with a new layout, new equipment and new storage. To get lots of ideas I subscribed to Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, Popular Woodworking, Wood, and Workbench. The one I'll be dropping is Workbench. I have found Workbench to be too light on content. My ranking is:
4-0 out of 5 stars Making your Home Look Better
Workbench is a magazine aimed at do-it-yourself type people who like to work on their own home improvements and save money in the process. This publication presents dozens of woodworking ideas for home improvement and a few for hobby, with plenty of instructions and diagrams to make sure you get it right.
4-0 out of 5 stars Making Things Better
There is no lack of woodworking magazines for the budding (or advanced) craftsman. Each has a particular audience for its contents. For someone looking for the right magazines to subscribe to this can be a confusing process. Especially when the potential reader isn't precisely sure what they want themselves. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NYC life at its best!
I absolutely love this magazine! BlackBook has the latest on everything culture, art and fashion related. The GetLit page is the first place I look when I'm trying to find somewhere new and trendy to go.I recommend this mag to all of my friends, and they love it as much as I do!The BlackList is jam-packed with all the best places to go.I will never miss an issue!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best magazines out there for mod culture
Perhaps it is because my view is very NYC-centric but I find this magazine to be a great means of keeping abreast in the progressive culture scene despite my uptown address. The photography is fantastic. Working in headline fashion, this magazine is a great resource for up and coming designers and new things to keep watching. Before something is classifiable as "hip" anywhere else, its here.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool to look at, but when it comes to reading...
... I don't know.I guess my major complaint is that, if you aren't already privy to the latest in fashion, music, etc (like the other reviewer said, and he's quite right, this is a very hip magazine), then you'll probably feel pretty lowbrow. They don't really try to familiarize you with what's cool like GQ or DETAILS does; you're either in or you're not. However, it's definitely better than FLAUNT, which seems to be trying to imitate BLACK BOOK, in that the photography isn't as pretentious and the articles have a little more substance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A true r/c mag
This blows away r/c car action. Greg Vogel used to work for r/c car action before it went downhill. He made this mag great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Whoa, a REAL RC magazine!
I was blown away by RC Driver from my first issue! This heavy book has unbelievable pictures and got more car tests then the other mags plus boats in there to. If u want helpful tips and honest testing and not just a catilog of ads GET DRIVER! It's the only one i will subscribe to now

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
This subscription was a fiasco! It was always late and by the time I received and read it, I wanted to throw it out. It is filled with old products, tiresome pics, dull articles and way to many advertisements.

5-0 out of 5 stars TELL ME WHAT IT'S MADE OF
I JUST RECEIVED MY FIRST COPY & THINK THAT IT IS VERY INFORMATIVE. THERE IS A SMALL ARTICLE ON A DOLL THAT WAS FROM JAPAN WITH A VERY NICE PICTURE. I JUST WISH THAT (WITH DOLLS ESPECIALLY) YOU COULD TELL US WHAT IT IS MADE OF. I HAVE A DOLL THAT LOOKS LIKE IT, BUT IT COULD BE OF A DIFFERENT MATERIAL. IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL TO KNOW. I WILL BE PUTING MY ISSUES IN A FOLDER FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. THANKS! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine
I buy this magazine on the newsstand whenever I come across it, and I've rarely been disappointed. The magazine focuses squarely on contemporary sculpture and installation art - which means lots of minimalism, abstraction, and innovative use of materials. Fans of more traditional art may be left cold, but this sort of thing is right up my alley.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It is good for my knitting soul!
Living far away, I get my magazines weeks after it is on the streets in US. This waiting period is long! I hope for the mag every day, and send at least two impatient e-mails to the custom service. In Norway we havent got knitting mags you can read, only with patterns. I have been knitting all my life, my hobby has been much more satisfactory after I found Knitting (and Interweave Knits). I find patterns that I want to knit, get ideas how I can knit something other on the basis of a pattern. I can plan what I will knit next year, buying a lot of yarn for future projets! The informations I get about American knitting women, makes me happy! Grete

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to knitting library
I received my first issue a few weeks ago. There are several patterns in this issue that I will knit, and some maybe's. I buy many knitting magazines in stores, mainly because I want to check them out before I buy. This magazine is a consistant purchase for me, which is why I finally subscribed. (I also enjoy most of Interweave, Vogue Knitting, Rebecca, and Creative Knitting, though I have chosen not to subscribe to them. Usually not enough patterns in them that I would knit.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting better...
Love the new fashion trend articles. It's getting better, but it's not quite there yet. Could use a bit more professional and interesting graphic design. The patterns could be more useful and unique. Starting to get better. Really liking the new editor! Kudos for him in a major way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Info you can't find other places
I agree with "Pigeons" review. This was not as expensive for me as I got a "bundled" package of CoinValues, CoinWorld, both 1 year subscriptions (12 issues, 52 issues respectively). And with CoinWorlds weekly paper you are kept VERY up-to-date on goings on in the numismatic community.I got the both for around $41.

5-0 out of 5 stars A regular in-depth look at the coin world and all of its trappings!
I picked up a couple of issues of this newspaper/magazine at the Santa Clara show and on the basis of those two numbers decided to subscribe.I already subscribe to Numismatic News (NN) which I have also rated at 5 stars and I think I'll continue with both publications because they seem to vary just enough from each other to make things interesting.Coin World appears to spend more time on the nuts and bolts of the Coin World (well, duh, I guess the title says it), with good listings and mentions of new numismatic publications; reference books being essential building blocks for the erection of an edifice of numismatic knowledge. Its articles about specific numismatic issues also include a lot of the minutiae about the decision making process, problems and solutions, leading up to the final issuance of any given coin.It also has really excellent, detailed articles on esoteric topics not readily available in other publications. For instance, contained in one of my complimentary copies there was a truly fascinating article on Alaska Trade Tokens, as well as an entertaining one about the cascade of silver dollars created at the Philadelpia Mint when one of the employees charged with raking loose dollars together from atop a pile weighing hundreds of tons inadvertently broke open a bag which set off a chan reaction of burst open bags causing other employees to flee before the avalanche of tumbling silver.A further good thing about this publication is that the classifieds section appears to be qualitatively, if not quantitatively better than that found in NN.What this publication does not have is recent US Mint statistics (although lots of articles on new mint issues, etc.) which is a really nice thing about NN.Anyway, at about twice the price of NN, I'm not sure that you are getting a publication that is twice as good but I do believe that it is worth the cost of subscription and I hate to say it but if you have to choose between either this one or NN, go with this, in my opinion. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 2 years ahead of the fashion curve! Light years ahead of ordinary plus size fashion!
I just reviewed Burda Moden, and much of what I said there applies here too.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a Believer!
I ordered back issues of this magazine from an Ebay dealer in the UK after the Spring 2006 issue came out and I am sold not just on Burda Plus but on Berlin fashion designers as well- the women, anyway, make lovely, flowing but not "girly" clothes that are very wearable - Think Eileen Fisher or Flax but withdarker, richer colors, fibers and textures, slightly more "fit" and more interesting shapes in a wider variety -- not just the same few repeated again and again.Clothes for the decades, not the season -- and the patterns are HERE!at least some of them, from designers like Evelyn Brandt, Doris Strietch (and another Berliner (female)whose name escapes me at the moment, but whose clothes I deeply admire.)

I purchased this item in January, but I haven't seen it yet. It take a long time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The name couldn't be better!!
I buy lots of needlework magazines, including quilting, and this is the absolute #1 magazine I have ever read.In fact I just bought about 30 back issues.5-0 out of 5 stars Filled with truly inspired embroidery projects
Inspirations is the perfect name for this publication.Every feature inside is a little gem ofneedleart craftsmanship that would stand out against any professional work. How they manage to keep on creating those deligthtful designs every issue without starting to look like every other pedestrian embroidery magazine I have no idea, but the editors deserve a little prayer of thanks for their high standards.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great mag
This is a magazine. This is a magazine?Do yourself a favor and pick this up if you can get it for less than $20 an issue (like I do at my local Borders).Excellent quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mag
Not Only Black + White is a great Australian magazine, and of top quality.I used to buy it in bookstores here in New Zealand, but they don't seem to be available here anymore.I am not subscribing to it, but I'd keep getting them if they were available in bookshops where I live.I emailed the publisher twice about this, but I didn't get any response.Aside from that, this is a great mag (yes, it has fine art nude pictorials as well as lots more) and one that you would hang on to like a "coffee table" book rather than treat like a typical magazine. It has a thicker cover and pages than normal magazines too.For a magazine, you could almost rate it a 5, but nothing beats a proper book (no advertising, etc), so I rate this a 4.Aside from the photography, it also makes a good reference for page layout and typographical ideas as well, for anyone into desktop publishing. ...
