5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT new Knitting Magazine from the UK
I have the first 4 issues of this magazine and it is a great addition to the world of hand-knitting magazines. The UK has a great population of Knitting Designers to draw on and this magazine makes optimal use of them all (including: Rowan, Jean Moss, Debbie Bliss). The designs are classic and something that you could wear and the diagrams/articles/and patterns are well written. It easily rivals (if not surpasses) any of the popular American Knitting publications.Subscribe now!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Two months later --still no magazine
I already know that I love Metropolis magazine. What I don't love is the fact that I purchased the subscription on Jan. 7, and here I am on March 15 still without a single copy.I purchased a Dwell subscription at the same time; it also took a long time (well over a month) to receive my first issue.
3-0 out of 5 stars I am not sure...
I have bought several issues of Metropolis, but decided to stop reading this periodical. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that it is not a good magazine. It might be. What I mean is that it does not fit my appetite. And I would like to point out these issues to prospective readers.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Synthesis
Metropolis is not like any other magazine I know of.It is a blend of architecture, design, curlure, art in a way that no other magazine has attempted. It is not stuffy or pretentious, some of the writing is very funny, and it is always thought provoking.Very much worth checking out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Name says it all
If you need a quilt real quick, then this magazine is for you!I've made several of the quilts in Quick Quilts and have found them to be very easily put together due to the magazines clear and straight forward directions. There is always a lovely variety in the number of patterns and the techniques used within.Quick Quilts breaks down difficult design patterns and shows you how to make them up easily and fast!(I made a Double Wedding Ring wall hanging in an issue from 2 years ago and I finished it with in a couple of weeks.) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Froma All I've Read
Although I have yet to subscribe to Aperture, what I've heard and what little I've seen advertised in one of Sally Mann's famous publications is enough to arouse my interest, and I can't wait to partake of a first issue of 'Aperture'.Feedback from other members is always anticipated and welcomed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the subscription
Aperture is indeed the preeminent art photography magazine, and consistently has enough good material to warrant a subscription independent of its clout.Although ostensively devoted to art photography, many of the spreads are essentially photojournalism.
1-0 out of 5 stars Pretentious and Plodding
Aperture is THE premier photographic magazine today... which is to say it embodies all the fashionable cliches and pretentions of the contemprary post-modern scene. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful publication
This magazine is for serious collectors, and those of us, who wish we were. This magazine is highly professional, high quality paper, photographs that almost rival national geographic.Every month they feature different articles about collecting, different time periods and so much more.I find the articles highly educational.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb recreational reading
The accuracy and scope of this magazine are first class.A collector will learn much about any topic treated in this magazine. But let's not overlook the real pleasure simply of reading about all kinds of antiques--their historical context, their craftsmanship, the vicissitudes of their survival over time, not to mention their beauty.Whether you own a single antique, this elegant, intelligent magazine will make you an armchair traveler, an amateur historian, and even a bit of a connoisseur!I recall a whole issue devoted to Winterthur and the Duponts, and another on the incomparable Elektra Havemeyer and her Early American museum.Wonderful color photographs, very competently written articles, and always something new (which you knew nothing about before).Country Life magazine gives comparable relaxation reading and fantasy material, but it is much too expensive. The Magazine Antiques is a bargain ticket to many new historical destinations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
Keep in mind that this is info for the serious collector. I found the articles to be thorough and accurate. This magazine is targeted at the collector of museum quality antiques. They include a great deal of information on construction, how to identify styles, as well as individual makers. Many of the topics covered here are rare and expensive, but the info provided gives one great insight on how to evaluate what's readily available. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Magazine
Hip, fun patterns - this is the only crochet magazine I've found that has patterns for clothing and accessories I'd really consider wearing. Not the old lady, cutsey stuff I've seen in other magazines.I love the updated look, and there are always plenty of choices for all levels of crocheters.Highly recommend to all those folks out there who are tired of boring afghans, kiddie sweaters in red, white and blue, and doilies!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine
Crochet! carries some very stylish current designs that appeal to younger crocheters such as myself. The pictures are beautiful, and there is always a little how-to guide with great illustrations for beginners. The magazine also features new stitching techniques and highlights developments in the world of crochet. Introductions to new tools and the tips offered have proven invaluable. Even the doilies, tablecloths and other household items I've always relegated to "my granny's crochet" are so beautiful and stylish, I find myself making a couple! Plus there's always something appropriate to the season, Valentine's Day, St. Paddy's Day, that make great quick and easy gifts for family and friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars Updated Crochet
I currently own at least one issue of about 8 different crochet magazines and Crochet! is my favorite of all of them and the ONLY one that I subscribe to.The designs are always current and unlike some magazines are not re-publications of designs that were originally published elswhere.Ladies wearables, accessories, and afghans are the staple of this magazine though you will occassionally also find wearabes for other family members as well as a variety of other interesting patterns such as crochet for the kitchen and bathroom, crochet for spicing up the holdiays, etc. What's more is that they always try to include patterns from some of the "newer" (or newly revived) techniques such as thread painting, crochet'n weave etc.The instructions are quite thorough, often with diagrams and yes...you will find some patterns in here that will cater to the plus sizes.Another interesting feature of this magazine is that they spotlight on what's new in the crochet world so you always feel like you're on the cutting edge of what's current in crochet.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars really is the best
I love turing people on to this magazine, they always love it, like I do!5-0 out of 5 stars Showcasing Some of the Best in Nature Photography
Nature's Best is a quarterly magazine (4 issues per year) dedicated to showcasing the best in nature photography today. It's format is slightly larger than standard at9x11 inches. Each issue is around 100 pages in length with almost no advertising. In addition to subscriptions, the magazine is funded by a handful of corporate sponsors, who account for the only advertising in the magazine, and that only amounts to a few pages. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Now I know what happened to Magic Crochet AND Decorative Crochet!
From the beginning I started collecting both issue #1 of Magic Crochet & Decorative Crochet. I was drawn first by the diagrams which helped me thru some of the more elabrate worded patterns then found I loved them. Once I moved in the late 1980's I couldn't find either issue for several years. I really missed both not just for the diagrams but they have some of the best patterns and the photograghy was some of the best!
1-0 out of 5 stars unsatisfactory service
I sent in a subscription to Magic Crochet (which is now Crochet Monthly) over a year ago and received only one magazine. The magazine itself is great but, trying to deal with the company is a nightmare!I never received any response to any of my correspondences sent to the company.I felt very ripped off as, this magazine is on the expensive side. It's better to buy them at a book or retail store; that way at least you know you'll have it!

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING - STEER CLEAR OF A SUBSCRIPTION
When this magazine operated under the name Magic Crochet it was a good magazine - if you could get them to send it to you after you paid for your subscription! I received only 3 magazines in a year and no one from the company will even respond to emails or correspondence about why I'm not receiving my issues that are already paid for.Do yourself a favor and if you want copies of Magic Crochet, get them as back issues on EBay.I only gave this magazine 1 star because that's the lowest it went.In truth, it's not the magazine itself that's so bad, it's the company and its lack of customer service. (although the content was better before it became Crochet Monthly too) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bead Beading Magazine out there!!
I find it heard to believe that she never recieved her magazine or even a call back from the company..I know for a fact they are very good about getting orders out promptly, and that if there is a problem they will even compensate you with a comp. issue..The company who publishes this magazines also has several other wonderful publications i.e Step by Step Wire(very popular), Lapidary Jounal, Colored Stone & many more. They also host the biggest beading events in this country..Beadfest Philadelphia, Atlanta & the one in Nashville are a really the best bead shows in this country..If you call 610-232-5710, This person will be sure to take care of the problem you have been having.

4-0 out of 5 stars overall, pretty good mag!
INVARIABLY I CAN ALWAYS FIND MORE THAN A FEW PERTINENT DESIGNS.THE DIRECTIONS ARE LAID OUT VERY COMPREHESIVELY.IT IS TRUE, HOWEVER, THAT THE BIGGEST USE I CAN DRAW FROM THIS MAGAZINE IS THE INSPIRATION AND VARIATIONS YOU CAN MAKE ON ANY ONE PIECE.SOME ISSUES ARE SUPERB WHILE OTHERS ARE JUST GOOD.A VARIETY OF MEDIUMS ARE USED (WEAVING, WIRE, POLYMER CLAY, ET.AL) AND I USUALLY WILL ADAPT THE DESIGNS OR ELABORATE UPON THEM.I STILL GO OVER PAST ISSUES FOR HELP AND INSPIRATION.

1-0 out of 5 stars I never got any of the mags

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine - HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Yes - there are tons of great shots in the mag; great articles ( in French only ) , contests---very chic....HOWEVER---- customer service will treat you like the redheaded stepchild when you ask them " WHY HAVE YOU NOT SENT ME THE LATEST ISSUE OF PHOTO?? "....and you know it WILL HAPPEN. They only send you sporadic issues when THEY feel like it ( or so it would seem )... Most issues are available on the stand WEEKS before you get yours delivered via mail ( should it be the other way around??? ) And they wont give you a courtesy letter/postcard telling you when your subscription is up...that's for you to figure out. SO if you can deal with the lame french hold music when you call Photo's Cutomers Service CONSTANTLY, this is a great magazine..... cough...cough...vive la France!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine if you can actually get them to deliver it
This is my favorite magazine in the universe and the only one to which I have ever subscribed. However, after this, my second subscription is over, I plan to call it quits. The magazine never gets delivered unless I send several angry e-mails every month reminding them and demanding delivery. When the issues come they are often 2-3 months behind. The current issue is over three weeks late and who knows when and if I will ever see it. In the end, although this is a brilliant publication, it simply isn't worth the headache. Photo, if you're out there, please forward me the June issue.... and while you're at it get a head start on July and August and maybe they'll make it on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!
American photography could only WISH they knew what real photography is.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic
This is perhaps my favorite Photography magazine. The printing is fantastic as is the subject matter. I really like the fact there are no ads in it at all. So many photography mags are just an extended catalog for B&H or Adorama that this is a breath of fresh air.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Photography Magazine
There's a lot to like about Lenswork - the selection of images, the quality of the printing, Bill Jay's "End Notes" - but the thing I like the most is that there is almost no discussion of equipment.Brooks Jensen (the editor/publisher) doesn't appear to care what camera you used to make a photograph, or how many miles through a raging blizzard you hiked to make it.All that matters is the image. And after you've finished looking at the images, you'll find a lot of wisdom and practical information packed into each issue, too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great shots!
This is a 'small' magazine in size but large in terms of inspiration. The photographs and the stories are not so much focused on technique but more on the artistic values and philosophy of photography. Each issue includes an interview with an artist as well as one or more sets of photographs. The publishers are deeply involved in photography and often contribute their own images. Like good art, the photographs show that good photographers can turn ordinary objects into interesting subjects. Hence, the inspirational value of the publication.Read more
