4-0 out of 5 stars A good all around choice
As a library administrator I get to see and read an awful lot of woodworking books and magazines.I have been a personal subscriber to Woodworker's Journal for a year now, and an off and on reader of the magazine for about 5 years. In that time I have grown to appreciate this as a very good woodworking magazine. Is it my favorite? No, but I still like it well enough to recommend it to others.I also regularly read Fine Woodworking, Workbench, Wood, Popular Woodworking, etc. and like all of those, this magazine has its strengths.I find that WJ is very into power tools, tool reviews (theirs are among my favorites), and shop projects.Having said all of that, I also must confess that the best piece of furniture I ever built came from a plan in WJ magazine (an arts & crafts style wine storage table), so don't pigeon-hole it too much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just the Right Approach
There are two good ways to tell what audience at which a woodworking magazine is aimed. The first is the type of advertising, and the second is how much skill do the projects expect you to have.It is pretty clear right away that Woodworker's journal server home woodworkers who are already of moderate skill. The advertised 'big toys' run in the 500 to 1500 dollar range, although there are a couple of high end combination machines in the adds as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars A balanced approach to woodworking - tools, techniques, proj
Woodworkers Journal has attracted some of my favorite woodworking experts from the other magazines. Michael Dresdner, Ellis Wallentine, Shondor Nagaslaski are all great tool and woodworking experts and give me the information that I need to advance my skills and keep working in the shop interesting. I can hardly wait for the next issue to arrive. It will have shop tips, jigs, finishing tips and projects. No other magazine has this well rounded approach to woodworking. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not deserve 5 stars
Pointe is the equivalent to a teen magazine in the ballet world.Lovely photograghs, but lacks in content. If you are a true balletomane, look towards Ballet Review and Ballet Alert.

5-0 out of 5 stars loveing pointe
Oh My Gosh! I love this magazine! It really brings the dance world into perspective. I love to hear what some of the professionals have to say about their dancing lives. My favorite articles are the ones on the problems with pointe shoes and how to overcome them. Realistic, honest, great advice!

5-0 out of 5 stars oh my gosh-- this magazine is incredible!!
I have been looking for a ballet or dancing magazine forever and I found pointe and am really satisfied. It offers hundreds of wonderful apparel items and lots of advice, plus interveiws with famous dancers. Its definately ideal for the dancer or figure skater. It is also a great gift to give someone who dances or figure skates. Pointe rocks!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great design ideas
This is a fabulous magazine!Every issue I enjoy the vast number of designs and techniques within each magazine. The directions are always clear, concise, and correct. Each issue always has a great variety of patterns.I gave this magazine only 4 stars (it probably deserves 4.5) because I enjoy reading about the individual quilters, how they came up with the designs, and how they chose the fabric.Qulter Magazine only gives each pattern a very brief, 1 or 2 sentence glimpse about the quilt.I think I would enjoy it more if the magazine gave more background information. It is a wonderful magazine nonetheless. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Useful Magazine
The Burda magazine is one of the most rare magazines I have ever seen. If someone is interested in design, sewing and fashion then, this is difinatly a must to have.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its just a catalog
It is a good magazine, but not a pattern magazine as Burda, it is a catalog of all the vogue patterns, same that you can find at the web site [...] but you must buy each one if you are interested sewing something (they are expensive). Good advertisment that you can use to surf the web.

5-0 out of 5 stars five stars
its a wonderfull magazine, full of ideas. Special for toddlers and little girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Smocking & Embroidery Subscription to get!
Australian Smocking & Embroidery is by far, the best of the smocking/embroidery magazines that are available today. Not only are the projects and pictures glorious, but the patterns are included with each project. Most issues offer a variety of sizes and styles for using smocking, but focus mainly on children's clothing. These magazines become valuable after time, as some issues as they are out of print, will double and triple in value. This is a much sought after magazine in the finer cloth/heirloom shops.Inside each issue, there will be a step by step lesson of a technique used in a project.Smocking and Embroidery plates abound, and you can order the kit to make the projet from Country Bumpkin in Australia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Unique magazine, it's one-of-a kind
This magazine is a one-of-a-kind, it has the most unique and beautiful patterns for smocking and embroidery. Each issue offers many gorgeous infant, children's and ladies patterns. Each issue includes full-size patterns and gives complete instructions on every detail. This magazine has inspired me to create many beautiful gowns that I know will become family heirlooms. There is nothing else like it. It has become a must for my sewing library. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful magazine
I agree with the above reviews. I would just add that this magazine is more for inspiration than instruction, as is Ornament; they both do this very well.
5-0 out of 5 stars I agree! Go to the source!

4-0 out of 5 stars Modern knitting mag
Creative Knitting is relatively new to the knitting market, a welcome addition. While I haven't subscribed yet, I pick up copies at the newstand and have generally found the quality of the patterns, styles, and articles to be pretty good. The directions for the garments that I've made have been accurate and error free. Except for things like bikinis (who at any agewould wear a hand-knitted bikini?) and slacks (?!), most of the designs are modern and adaptable. With 20 or more projects in each issue, CK is a bargain. Hope these editors and designers keep up the good work. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It's a Rag now
When CBG was a weekly (newspaper) it was fairly accurate in it's reporting on the newest prices for comics, changes in the writer/artist teams, and the direction that the publishers were going for the coming year. But once the pros left and the new geek management took over and changed it into a Wizard clone, it became just as bad as that rag. There are ten main stories on the page, and maybe two have any truth in them. And I now know for a fact that many interviews on the pages were either faked or they took the interview words out of constract, so it makes you belive one thing when it is really false.Kind of fits the comic book industry now.A BIG JOKE.

4-0 out of 5 stars More meaty than Wizard
While sections like "Longbox Manifesto" and "Ask Mr. Silver Age" will certainly appeal to long-time comic book lovers, CBG is a magazine that, month-in and month-out, will contain new and fresh news and stories that you more-than-likely didn't read elsewhere. The comic book and graphic novels reviewed each month are more than just Marvel and DC books, too, which is nice.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's Wizard for the more discerning reader
When Comics Buyers Guide was a weekly tabloid, it appealed mainly to the hardcore comic book collector. Now that it has switched to a monthly format, delivering a healthy 244+ pages/issue, it has evolved into a dual-purpose magazine, still meeting the collector's needs while offering much more content for the discerning comic book reader and/or fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Photographer Magazine
The review of new photo products are excellent. Well written in my opinion. Highly recommend this magazine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of digital technology (but tape delayed)
Print magazines are behind current news by about 3-4 months. The websites have news about new digital cameras instantenously. The print magazines are destined to be 3-4 months behind. If you are looking for the latest news, you will get them tape-delayed if you only read magazines.

3-0 out of 5 stars Value for Money
Despite only giving this magazine a three star rating, it really is quite good. The value for money is there, although content wise I have seen better. There aren't as many projects as in some other magazines, and the projects that are featured seem to be quite basic, but you get good results and that's important. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fear No Art!!
I discovered this journal recently and couldn't be more thrilled. I realized that I,too,am an "outsider" artist, untrained, 'naive,' and finally, after all these years of being an RN, unafraid to pursue my own art. If you love art and yearn to break the boundaries and confines which we've been taught in the west about art, then you'll love this journal, too. It's raw and it is indeed, visionary and inspiring for those that truly love art for art's sake! ... Read more
