Wow
I accidentally happened upon the August 2005 issue and couldn't believe the cover was a pastel.I have dabbled in pastel recently and quickly snatched this up.There are lots of beautiful photographs of contemporary works with features on the artists' themselves, some of which have step by step photos of how the work was achieved.The downside is that there are only 6 issues per year.The back of the magazine has an extensive listing of pastel courses/workshops/exhibitions throughout the US and internationally, taught by prominent pastelists.

Pastel Journal
I read Pastel Journal every month to see what other artists are doing, view a calender of pastel shows, and get information about pastel products. This magazine is hard to find in stores.I really look forward to getting an issue. ... Read more

Not impressed
Mainly all ads, not very much content on or about antiques as bragged about.

This is a great weekly publication
This magazine (it's acutally more like a newspaper) is a publication that I look forward to getting every week.I read on average, 80 - 90% of the articles. Really Outstanding
Most photo magazines handle analog and digital photography as separate entities. This magazine is the perfect bridge between the two media. Besides that, its articles are very insightful, with a more artistic and professional tone than most photo magazines, but without falling into a snobbish attitude. Furthermore, they avoid that commercial point of view that hampers a good photo magazine. The only thing I regret is the lack of technical information about the pictures they show. I have subscribed to many quilting magazines and have found this one to be among the best. The articles include many interesting topics from historical quilts to trendy techniques, and often lessons from the "pros".
Just don't deal with customer service
After subscribing to Quilters World since 2001, I suspended my subscription for a year while we traveled in Europe. When I tried to resume my subscription they told me my subscription would be resumed through 2007 even though my subscription (verified on my magazine's label) was until 2011.
Quick & Easy Quilting has now become Quilter's World
I liked Quick and Easy Quilting because I don't have much time and need "quick and easy" quilt ideas.Quilter's World arrived as the replacement to this magazine and it is much larger in size and has a more "upscale" feel to it (ala' Threads' magazine).Whereas the old magazine had a "working class" feel to it, this new magazine aspires to "middle class" or beyond.However, there still are quick and easy quilt ideas in the magazine, you just have to look a little farther for them.There are very good templates easy to rip out or photocopy. So the magazine is worth it for that.However, I must add that .. price is not the best.My card that came with the magazine offers ..for 1 year (6 issues)--offer expires 2-28-03. ... Read more

Wish I could give it -1 star
I don't think there is anything that I could add to the comments the other beaders have left above regarding this magazine.They NEVER responded to any concerns I had and the magazine itself is not nearly the level expected in a so-called "professional" publication.Check out "Beadwork" or "Bead and Button" magazines instead.They cost more, but are far superior publications.

Not worth the cost of an issue
This magazine suffers from many problems: poor editing, incomplete and incomprehensible instructions, failure to respond to concerns and questions from their subscribers - just to name a few.There are several other magazines that fill this area of interest so much better, Bead and Button and Beadwork for two.Stay away from the hassle here. Try the other quality & professionally produced magazines, you'll be glad you did.

And one star is really too much for this magazine. I surely agree with Amybeader about this magazine, I got the first issue when it came out in the early 1990's and fell in love with it, but I have watched it lose its alure in the last few years, but Istubornly held on untill this year -2003 in hopes the editors would wake up and and see how far down they were sliding and get it together and put out something better,but they haven't. and I too didn't renew my sub.this time, as I become so frustrated with their "instuction" for a project that would make me want to scream.I thought I was the only one that was having a problem with the magazine and I appreciate amybeader for telling it like it is.They even quite publishing letters from thier readers which I never saw a magazine do before,guess other readers felt like I did too. There are much better magazine out there that make you feel good about your talents - Expression is one of the best and they offer a wide range of jewelry and clay designs along with other projects that open your world up and inspire you to incorporate other objects and media into your designs that you wouldn't normally think about mixing together. Two other new mag. are Polymer Cafe and Bead Style .All three of these new magazine are worth their weight in gold and jewels.The newbead Style is published by Bead and Button magazine and is great for beginers and advanced jewelry designers and beaders. They offer projects that can easly be achived.Well, thanks for reading this and much thanks again to amybeader for sharing - as a avid beader and jewelry designer myself,it is always hard for me to see a magazine go down, its like losing a close friend, but when all one gets from reading a magazine is frustion then it is time to let go and move on as hard as that can be- Life is too short and frustrating every day - we need inspriation and projects that make us smile and feel good about pur talents and encorage us to try new things.I do know when one door is closed there will be a bigger window opened with a much more beautiful view. ... Contribute and help it grow
I like Doll Reader.It is usually in the shadow of Dolls magazine, but it can be a more lively periodical and the editor(s) seem open to reader inquiries and material submissions.I think if more collectors would do a little research on their favorite subjects, and submit articles, that we could have a really informative magazine going on here.

... photography is more than naked woman...
I cancelled my subscription to this magazine 6 months ago with a letter to the editor stating that I loved to see nude woman, but subscribed to learn from the masters about photography.I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when I resubscribed after not taking the magazine for years... it used to be a wonderful magazine chock full of insightful articles, lighting techniques, studio setup diagrams, lots of great stuff... I subscribed to a 2 year deal through an online subscriber and asked them to quit sending it after only 6 months and to keep the money.
BEST PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE OUT THERE!
American PHOTO has an indepth look at alot of various subjects.There are some photos of real life situations & experiences.The latest issue depicted the Iraq war situation, how some of the soldiers & Iraqi civilians are coping with what's going on around them.
Good creative photography magazine aimed towards glamour
American Photo is a much better magazine than its sibling Popular Photography, but frankly, that is not saying much. It seems as though its primary market is fashion/glamour photographers since most of its issues are devoted to these aspects of professional photography. There are other magazines which excel at nature photography, so I am not disappointed by its absence here, but not noting more fine art documentary photograhy is a major omission which I hope this magazine does address eventually. There are also excellent photo equipment reviews frequently written by working professionals, as opposed solely to in-house technical equipment overviews. American Photo is without question among the better photo magazines currently available, but unless you are interested mainly in fashion and glamour photography, you might wish to look more closely at Shutterbug or other magazines devote to nature and fine art photography. ...
