4-0 out of 5 stars The best presentation
I love the look of this magazine.Such high quality. The overwhelming amounts of advertisements can be a bit much though. The photography and style is fantastic. They some how make everything from vases to flowers to all foods look compelling and beautiful.

4-0 out of 5 stars good things
Long time MSL subscriber.I get out my dec, dec/jan issues every holiday season to see what works for ornaments and decorations and such.I loved the cookie issue last year, definite keeper. Her projects involve time and materials, but you end up with something that will last, and instructions are generally very clear.I've seen that since her trial/jail, the high end advertisors have almost entirely backed out, which means adds for average joes, like me.I really appreciate the depth that the mag goes into a certain subject, even if its not a particular fave of mine.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous magazine
I'm kind of a homebody -- I love making things, sewing and cooking, and making my home as nice as possible for myself, my kids, and my guests. When I found this magazine, it was love at first sight: crafts, easy sewing projects, home-made decorations and beautifully photographed meals, all in one spectacularly well-put-together magazine. To be honest, I always loved Martha's work but could never stand her show; now I can have all that her show offers (and more) without having to be annoyed by a tv programme.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
This magazine has something for woodworkers at every level, from raw beginner to professional. The mix of articles includes side by side product comparisons, how-to pieces at different levels, tool sharpening hints, finishing materials and techniques, and photo galleries of magnificent work.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great for starting out, but now i'm bored
After 6 years I'm finally letting my subscription end. Its a great magazine for starting out, but after a while the articles begin seeming to be very alike. New ideas are now a rarity in Fine Woodworking, and that was the original reason that I subscribed. There are very few technique articles and too many tool reviews. And I've become skeptical of those review articles--primarily because many, but not all, are not rigorous scientific tests and are subject to the author's preferences, yet those articles are not presented that way.Furthermore, I believe that the magazine in general has dropped considerably in quality and definitely in content over the past few years. I'd have given it 5 stars in the begining, but now its just average.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only subscription that lasted
I jumped into woodworking four years ago and have had 5 woodworking magazine subscriptions over the four years. I started with Fine Woodworking and now it's all that's left. Nothing else compares.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best French craft magazine period!
If only they had an US version sigh*...Still Ooo la la when I picked this up in France for the first time I just could not put it down. The lay-out and photographs are beautifully styled. I was so inspired by the autumn addition I'm already planning on trying out a few of the paper collage projects. A superb magazine for crafty inspiration on every level- sewing, felting, vintage furniture restoration, interior design, storage, paper arts and entertaining a very collectable magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marie Claire idees translation
I love this magazine. I used to buy it at book stores but I haven't been able to find them lately so I am definitely going to get a subscription. Yes, it's in French but if you Google for free translation there are web sites that will translate from French to English.

4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing...wish it came out more often!
I recently got back from a trip home to Quebec, and bought a copy of Marie Claire Idees at the airport. Well, I adored it and plan to subscribe! The crafts and designs are classy and stylish, a nice change from the "County" style, ducks-and-cows, fake flowers and Disney themes that dominate the craft scene here. If you are sick of pastel landscapes, cartoon characters and cutesy themes, and can get by in French, this is the magazine for you! The only problem is that all their supply sources are in Europe, which is to be expected. And unfortunately it only comes out 4 times a year. It's cheaper to go directly to their site and subscribe there; about 34.00 USD including S&H.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for quick cards
I love this magazine and look forward to getting it each month.I like the tips, the new product suggestions and the card ideas. They vary in style and difficulty and I think the magazine is a great resource. It's my favorite of the 3-4 other stamping magazines I subscribe to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Paper Crafts Magazine
This magazine always has fresh and easy ideas to make paper ideas. Love the quality of the illustrations and the products that are advertised. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars PaperCrafts -- Whoo Hoo!
I am an overall crafter with an emphasis on paper arts including dry empbossing and rubber stamping. This is the best magazine for paper crafting I've ever subscribed to.In fact, I will not be renewing several other crafting magazines because they do not compare to the quality of this publication. The ideas are varied and can be adapted for many different occasions. The visuals are fresh and the projects whimsical. You won't go wrong with this magazine! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Magazine for The Scrapper Who Likes Clean LO's
This magazine offers design ideas, creativity, and LO's samples for the Scrapper who likes clean lines, quick LO's, and good design principles. 4-0 out of 5 stars Its definitely a must read
I have to admit I enjoy reading about woodworking almost as much as doing it - just remember I did say "almost"!
4-0 out of 5 stars Popular Wood Reading
It's very easy to write off Popular Woodworking without even reading it.One tends to assume that it is going to be the Readers Digest of woodworking. One imagines countless overly simplified articles on how to build bookcases or select the right shop vacuum.Actually, this couldn't be further from the truth.
4-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
This magazine surprises me.It looks like just another mass media pulp magazine, but it's really solid on the inside. These guys actually go to the shop and do woodworking. They are enthusiastic, thorough, honest, and funny. The articles seem to aim toward the moderately experienced amateur, but there's plenty of stuff for beginners. And the price can't be beat. This and Fine Woodworking are my favorites - put them together and you have everything you need. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I love this magazine
What a great magazine - its like receiving a small book of knitting patterns every few months - most of which are totally wearable. I really feel this mag. rides the line between fashionable and practical. I have gotten 4 issues so far and have knit 1 or more items out of each issue. The directions could use a bit more description - sometimes the designers think you can read their minds, but nothing a trip to the geniuses at the yarn store won't fix. There are also interesting articles about things like merino sheep - something you wouldn't think was interesting, but then you start reading it and can't put it down.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I learned to knit as a young girl and then life interfered and I dropped out of the craft. About 10 years ago, I picked up a copy of VK and got hooked all over again. The styles in this publication are chic, stylish, and adaptable. Most are for clothing and accessories without the ubiquitous afghan designs. The directions are clear and only once have I encountered an error. The articles are interesting, informative, and often inspire creativity and exploration. As soon as the latest issue hits the mailbox, I'm into it from cover to cover. There are 10 years of issues catalogued in my bookshelf and I refer to them often. A great resource for any knitter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love the patterns
This is what I use when I want to knit something for myself. The patterns are hip and young and they always feature the latest greatest designers. This is also much more about fashion than any other knitting magazine out there- lots of runway pictures and rail-thin models posing knitwear in exotic locations.I find that each issue has a good mix of projects of varying skill levels.I have knitted several and I'm happy with the instructions and I've never run across any major pattern mistakes.I find that the exact yarns, however, can be hard to find. They usually give you enough information about the yarn and desired effect so that you can easily substitute. While I'm careful not to pick patterns that won't be embarrasing to wear next year, they do have a lot of hyper-trendy patterns. It would be a pity to waste all that time and money on something that would be decidedly "out" by the time you finsih it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What I think of Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine
This is a very interesting publication. It shows different styles of decorating how to incorporate them into your home spaces. It takes you to different areas and reccomends places of interest, shares some recipes, shows some of Marys artwork and gives a page you can frame, if you choose.Mary has different artists work featured and gives you insight as to how they came to do what they do.
5-0 out of 5 stars The only one left.
I had only one non-professional magazine subscription (I'm a graphic designer) up until about two years ago, because that one magazine covered all my periodical interests, and was incredibly beautiful (so much so that I often used its photos as subject matter for my art projects). That magazine was Victoria. I was pretty much at a loss when it stopped coming.
5-0 out of 5 stars surprisingly un-sugary
I've sampled about every home-decor mag out there, and Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion is now on my short list of staples (Elle Decor, Met Home, House & Garden being the others). My taste runs to Hollywood Retro--a little bit sexy, citified and uncluttered, with a dash of humor--and makes use of a lot of thrift-store finds I've customized to the space. Like an earlier reviewer, I'm an unlikely candidate for ME paraphenelia, but her magazine is loaded with clever inspiration, and you won't suffer an overdose of sweetness. I especially like her concentration on the homes and work of independent artists ... and attention to animal causes, which are close to my heart. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, Colorful, Concise, and Comprehensive
Interweave Knits (IK) magazine is, by far, the best knitting magazine on the newsstand.Over the years, I have checked out all of them and there are several reasons why this publication is a "keeper" everytime it arrives. Each issue provides a bountiful assortment of projects. Also, there are clear, well-written instructions for each project and a primer on some aspect of the craft.Every issue includes the basics including a glossary and stitch illustrations. The projects are well written, well illustrated and down to earth.Unlike another high-profile knitting magazine which focuses on haute couture, IK's projects are personable and "user-friendly."
5-0 out of 5 stars Knitting Heaven
There's a lot I could say about IK, but I don't want to write one of those long winded reviews. Here's the short list of why IK is worth every single penny.
5-0 out of 5 stars Standards
Knits is the standard to which I hold all other knitting and crocheting, and for that matter, all crafts and DIY magazines. It's that well done: thoughtful, clarified, and styley. ... Read more

I am trying to find a pattern and article for Heart Raggedy Quilt. It was in the March 04 issue of either McCalls Quilter or Fons & Potters. Does anyone remember and can you advise?
5-0 out of 5 stars Great all around
This is a great magazine in all aspects of what a quilting magazine should be.There are always a great variety of designs, techniques, and articles describing different quilters and some historical aspects of quilting. This is a 'good read' even if you're not planning to make a quilt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Variety in Quiltmaker Magazine
This magazine has lots of different types of quilts for the quilter who likes variety. I've been buying it off the newsstands for a while and have found it to be one of my favorite magazines. It has tons of quilts in every issue. Everything from tradtional, and scrap quilts to kids and foundation piecing. If you quilt for children you'll love the great ideas that come with every issue. The magazine is in full color with clear and easy instructions. many patterns also include instructions for different sizes. Lots and lots of fun and original ideas. This is not your run-of-the-mill quilt magazine. If you're looking for creative quilt patterns and the latest on notions and tools, this is the magazine for you. I've made 2 quilts from this magazine in the last 5 months and can't wait to get the next issue and pick my next project. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Editor needs more experience
From what i have found .. the editor needs more experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars one of my favorites
This is one of my favorite quilting magazines, especially (but not only) for beginners. There is almost always something that I want to make in each issue, which isn't the case with most of the quilting magazines I pick up.I love the alternate design/color schemes for each project.Fons & Porter's is another good choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars So-So
I subscribed to American Patchwork Quilting magazine for over a year, and to be honest I found it mediocre. The projects seem to be designed for people with 'high end' sewing machines and there are way too much appliqu projects, advertisements, and modern-looking quilting projects.

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is too quick
Sorry, I have not yet received my 1st issue of the magazine - it will be another month or so before it comes.
1-0 out of 5 stars Just don't deal with customer service
After subscribing to Quilters Newsletter for 14 years (!) I suspended my subscription for a year while we traveled in Europe for a year. When I tried to resume my subscription they told me my subscription had been cancelled for "non-payment" even though my subscription was paid up through 2007. I was hung up on twice, by a "supervisor" once.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for all levels
From the first time I picked this magazine up until now, I have been impressed with it.This magazine, unlike others, has great articles about quilters, techniques, fabrics, and everything else you can imagine that has anything to do with quilting. This magazine also showcases, in every issue, different quilting events that take place around the world. As a quilter, I've found that it is really great to see what other quilters have done to fabric. When it comes to the designs within the magazine, what I like best is that there are always a great variety of designs and techniques. Some magazines focus on the beginner level and throw in a couple of intermediate designs from time to time.I keep all of my magazines to use in the future, it is always my hope that I will, in the future, no longer be a beginner.I want those more challenging designs available to me--QNM does just this. A great feature of this magazine is that each issue highlights a specific sewing skill (fitting pants properly, making buttonholes well, etc.) and provides in-depth instruction with illustrations and photos to help you build your skills.I'm a big fan of efforts to keep this art and trade going over the generations. When Mom's not available to guide me by phone, the magazine can fill in for her.

I have always enjoyed every issue of Threads in the past. The new format / contents does not appeal to me.Threads is now a beginner sewing magazine like many others on the market.Thread's was once a great magazine, the only one on the market for the intermediate and advanced sewers. The projects were wonderful and I and other's I know kept every single issue. Not now, there isn't really much in Thread's for the wearable art/advanced sewer.I will really miss the couture finishing techniqes and other articles with new ideas. These articles were much more detailed than any book.Because of this detail a sewer with some experience could use these articles to become an advanced sewer more quickly than buying many books. I only gave the 2 star's because it is a nice beginner magazine. If you are new to sewing this is a good magazine, but the more advanced sewer's should pass this one up.

4-0 out of 5 stars not the Threads magazine of the past
I used to dream about subscribing to Threads and drool over them in the library, but the new format beginning in Fall 2005 is disappointing. They have added many more articles of interest to very new sewers such as how to choose the correct needle for a fabric. This basic info is readily available in many basic sewing books and it is not why I renewed to Threads for another 3 years. This magazine once showed cutting edge techniques and lots of projects that intermediate and advanced sewers could savor. As a beginning sewer I used to dream about conquering the exciting projects in Threads. Now, they have watered it down to appeal to less skilled people at the expense of the projects and information that made it stand out from other sewing magazines. This is still a "good" magazine, but no longer excellent.I wish that I could get back my money for the next 3 years and spend it on fabric. ...
