5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I started a subscription for my granddaughter, now four, a couple years ago.She loves animals, and loves Your Big Backyard.Goes through it from cover to cover.I'd highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is an excellent nature magazine. It is exactly what it looks like - a magazine about the world and the animals in it. There is an ongoing hunt for the little bird and other little animal that are hidden in the magazine each month. It is a fun magazine with drawings by children, cute pictures and posters, stories, information and more.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great pub/Not so great service
I bought a subscription for my son some nine months ago, comfortable with an earlier review that indicated that when it was time to move to Ranger Rick (at 7 years), the customer was assured that they could apply any unused Big Backyard to the Ranger Rick subscription. Well, my son is clearly ready to move on from Your Big Backyard to Ranger Rick, but the magazine fulfillment service referred me to Amazon and Amazon told me they do not provide this service. It's not grave and I only have three months left of this subscription, but it's disappointing nonetheless. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One-less-thing-to-worry-about-educational-material
Our Ranger Rick issues are used first as reading material, then discussion material, then project material (cut-outs, etc) then recycling to neighbors who enjoy them just as much.Tear out posters line my son's walls. There is no objectionable material in the magazine, just wholesome, fun reading. No political agenda is discernable from it, which is refreshing. As soon as it comes in the mail, my 10 year old insists on sitting right down and reading the whole thing through. The knowledge the magazine imparts carries over into the school day, where his teacher is amazed at his recall and knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those between 7 & 11
What kind of magazine can you get for that age in between? To old for the "Highlights" or other kids mags and still to young (girls anyway) for Seventeen, Teen People or Young Miss...RANGER RICK!! My daughter is 10 and just LOVES Ranger Rick. She has a great love of nature and wildlife and this just fuels her curiosity. Filled with outstanding pictures, fun facts and great information, she enjoys it all! Highly Recommend for a gift when your not sure what to get!

5-0 out of 5 stars WHY?
WHY is almost everybody giving NG Kids a bad review?
1-0 out of 5 stars Why buy the magazine when you can watch ads on T.V. for free?
...because that's all this magazine is: an advertising vehicle aimed at kids who aren't old enough to discriminate between ads and actual content yet.
2-0 out of 5 stars Too Many Ads, Poor Content
My family received this magazine for years, but recently we have decided not to re-new our subscription. This used to be a quality product but it has recently gone downhill with the inclusion of more and more advertising in each issue. At this point, nearly half of the magazine consists of advertisements--this isn't the real science magazine it claims to be, and is a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars This mag deserves a sixth star!!!
I have been getting this magazine for over six years now and just love it more every issue I get! Though it's listed for kids ages 9-14, the readers love it so much they take it to college!!! I highly recomend this mag for anyone who loves science and has a creative and inquisitive mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated stuff, interesting for kids
If I listed the topics Muse covers, you'd never imagine
5-0 out of 5 stars pwt pwns
Muse magazine is in a class by itself. It has NO advertisements, noarticles about how to make yourself prettier or any other boring stuff that shallow teens care about. We musers love the focus on science and math, and they've replaced the original mythological muses with 9 of their own. These little cartoons litter the margins with their witty comments, making the rare tedious article funny. Receiving this magazine is your ticket into the close-knit community of Musers, kids who have openness and learning at the heart of all their doings.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best magazine ever !
This is a great mag full of interesting story's and poem's.I have been getting this mag for about a year know and at the end of the month I can't wait to get Cricket.I also like it because it doesen't have any adds.It has great fantasy and history story's. You should try this great magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Made me who I am today
I received a gift subscription to this magazine from my aunt when I was 8 years old and kept every single issue I got in the mail until I turned 18 and my mother refused to keep paying for it (it is rather expensive). I have reread the hundreds of issues I have over and over and savored every possible detail. Because of this magazine, I became a happy appreciator of quality children's literature. Cricket doesn't talk down to children but respects their natural intelligence and curiosity. Fiction stories coexist with nonfiction, poems mingle with crosswords, beautiful illustrations appear next to photographs.5-0 out of 5 stars A great way to start a lifelong passion for reading!
I was introduced to Cricket magazine through one of my teachers in early elementary school, and soon afterward my parents began a subscription for me. From then all the way up through middle school I devoured each issue cover-to-cover the moment it arrived. At first I found it a welcome challenge compared to the overly simple and mundane classroom books of the "Mac the cat sat on a mat" variety. Even after I had surpassed the magazine in my reading ability, I continued to enjoy it for the content of the stories. Even my mother loved to read it.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The highlight of recent trip to hospital.
Recently my family was visiting a relative in the hospital.I spotted the 60th anniversary issue of Highlights for Children. In perusing it I noted how the magazine's style and format had evolved over the years. In showing the magazine to my [...] year old daughter, I realized that Higlights appeal to children had not waned since I was a kid. My daughter simply adored it.She especially liked the riddles. She has asked us to get a subscription, which we will gladly oblige her with come Christmas.

5-0 out of 5 stars A BIG TIP
I read Highlight Magazine faithfully when I was a child. Now I am a mother of two (2nd grade and Kind.).I just got a tip from a teacher at school - the writers of the Highlight (Harcourt) also write the exam for the 3rd grade state test in New York state.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent resource
I enjoyed this magazine as a kid, but then, I also loved Electric Company.Looking at both now, they seem dated and tedious, but perhaps our children need something that moves at a slower pace than everything seems to do now. Neither of my children (5 & 7) enjoyed Highlights at first, but after getting a subscription from their grandmother, they have discovered the joy of curling up in a quiet corner and figuring out the puzzles and stories for themselves. It's a magazine with a style and format that encourages reflection and absorption, rather than a voracious grab and go version of reading, that I believe will give a child a better foundation."To read without reflection is like eating without digesting" Edmund Burke ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Spider is always a great read
My children (7,5,2) and I always get terrific belly laughs when we read the spider cartoons aloud that appear throughout the magazine in each issue. The stories, illustrations and poetry are excellent food for young (and older)minds. But our favorite feature is the cartoons!

I bought Ask for my 8 year old son. I think I am as excited as he is when a new one arrives. It is very educational and brings out a little explorer in all of us. You will be so glad you bought Ask. They don't teach this stuff in school. My son wants to be a scientist when he grows up, now.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best toddler magazine
I work with babies and toddlers and have young twin grandsons.I give all the toddlers I love a subscription to BabyBug.The kids love it and look forward to Kim and Carrots' next adventures. The art is gorgeous with beautiful diverse families depicted.I wish I'd had it when my kids were little.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good way to cultivate love of reading!
I am a new subscriber, and I love these little books. Though the format and writing is simple, the books are perfect for young babies and toddlers. My toddler loves to flip through these books, and so do I [the illustrations are lavish and beautiful].

4-0 out of 5 stars In defense of Babybug...
I noticed in another review that someone didn't think Old King Cole was an appropriate choice for a baby book because of the "pipe," but I thought I'd mention (since my baby LOVES Babybug-- at 25 months, she still picks these books off the shelf all the time) that the illustration accompanying this classic, unavoidable Mother Goose rhyme clearly shows that Old King Cole has bubble soap in his "bowl" and is blowing bubbles with his "pipe."This actually makes way more sense to me than most other Old King Cole illustrations (why does an old king need a bowl and a pipe?not to mention his fiddlers three), and I finally have an explanation for why he would want a pipe in the first place!

I am 13 yrs old, and have about (almost) every single issue of this magazine,I started reading this magazine ayear ago,and now a suscriber, my mom says It's a great magazine for me because some of the stuff they talk about in the issues are things I'm dealing with as a preteen. and, I get my back issues on ebay, and the website they have, I just look up the phone number for my mom, and she calls and gets all the back issues they have, because some of them I don't have!Honestly, I used to read american girl in third grade and BOP in 6th grade, and now I'm hooked on DG (discovery girls) beacuse they have awesome stuff, and Yes, I can't be in the magazine as model because I'm Over 12. so what? I still love magazine and don't care If i'm not on the cover, I just enjoy looking at all the back issues and recent issues!! GReat magazine! Deserves 10 stars, but five is all we could give!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, educational, book that grows with your child
Our daughter was given a subscription to this magazine at 1 1/2 years old and absolutely loves each issue. The monthly book / magazine is very durable and is the size of a board book which makes them perfect for little hands to hold and also for traveling out and about of your home with. This is also very nice and easy to read for a bedtime story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoying the magazine in France
As Americans living abroad, it's great to find such a good magazine in english that can be delivered to our home--and at such a reasonable price. The first issue came quickly too. The content is really cute and appropriate and there are no ads. A great gift indeed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent first magazine for your toddler!
I got this for my daugther at 18 months due to her love of reading and animals and we have been delighted with the three issues we have received so far. Each issue is about 6x7 inches, 23 color pages on heavy duty cardstock (think thick magazine pages, not board book cardboard). The binding seems to hold up to her many readings and re-readings, though it certainly shows wear like everything else she gets her hands on!

2-0 out of 5 stars FULL of advertisements for your kids
When you watch commercial children's television, you have to accept the commercials because, after all, the programs are "free". But when you pay to subscribe to Nickelodeon magazine, I don't expect for it so be so full of alluring ads targeting children. These ads appear similar to the editorial content. It seems like 50% of the pages are advertisements!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Kids Magazine
This is one of my favorite magazines. It tells you about shows and new ones, movies, celebreties, and more! It also has some interviews with actors/actresses. It has fun puzzles and comics. I love the Scene but Not Heard comics. They are hilarious! Overall, I would get this magazine if I were you.

4-0 out of 5 stars this is a great magazine!!!!!!!!!
I like this magazine because it has funny stuff and intresting stuff and also the inside scoop on the latest stuff. Also it has some activities. I've been subscribed for more than a year and i haven't thrown out one issue because i can read the over and over. I don't recommend this for kids under 10 years old.

3-0 out of 5 stars For YOUNGER girls!
I think this magazine should be for ages 6-10. I stopped liking this magazine when I was 11 and my mom makes me still get it since my subscription doesn't expire untill AM 07! This magzine only comes out 6 times a year and is 27.99 to subscribe! It's for younger girls because it has cheesy party ideas and crafts. It also has stories written about 9-11 year olds. Here's what the next issue is going to be about: NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2006

5-0 out of 5 stars a fabulous mag!
American Girl magazine is so enjoyable... every time I receive an issue I read it from front to back, over and over again!!! It has several articles I can relate to and really fun games. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine!
It is unfortunate that so many customers have had bad experience with the billing of this magazine, because it is a truly wonderful product. Each issue is an in-depth exploration of a single topic, so kids can really learn a lot. It's a nice change from other kids magazines that have a "sound byte" approach to information.
1-0 out of 5 stars SCAM ALERT - SCAM ALERT - SCAM ALERT - SCAM ALERT
I also got this disgusting subscription "invoice" from these jerks. I don't care HOW GOOD A MAGAZINE IS, if someone has to use deceptive, threatening and totally bogus marketing practices to ensnare new subscriptions, their magazine should not be rewarded with anyone's business. I never ordered or got a single issue of their rag. Only a repeating smack in the face via mailbox claiming I am going to be "referred to a collection agency."KIDS Discover, you will NEVER get a cent out of me. Last time I checked we still live in a land where we don't have to pay for what we never got. If you spent as much time working on a good magazine for kids as you do sending out fake bills, you would have enough subscribers you wouldn't have to Shanghai any new ones with your fraudulent billing scam.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fraudulent Billing
We've never received this magazine, but we just received the bill with a message that we are about to be turned over to a collection agency.

My curious 3 1/2 yr old pre-schooler is absolutely fascinated by the themes in this magazine.A few of the articles are above his level which means I will be saving the magazine in a slipcase for future re-reading.The last issue I received was on the theme of magnification -- and we played with a magnifying glass and now more than a month later he enjoys pulling out a magnifying glass and magnifying all of the teeny tiny objects that catch his interest like the little metal balls in mazes, ants outside the house etc...Don't pass on this one, it has in depth articles, and plenty of pictures to engage a young ones interest too. What a great opportunity for open ended learning!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Magazine for Pre-Readers/Emerging Readers
I've been subscribing to Click, along with its sister publication, Ladybug, for about 2 years now. It's a great way to introduce the "real world" to my 5-year-old. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Got for neice's b-day
My neice loves this. I got this for her 4th Birthday. She started reading when she was 3, so this is great to continue honing her skills.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pricey!
And I am not talking about the subscription! My problem with this magzine is that there is SO much advertising in it - all from Disney.I know it's their magazine, so they're entitled to do it, but my daughter did (some of) the activities, and then treated it like a catalog - "Mommy, can we get this?, Mommy - look at the movie coming out!".We switched to Sparkle magazine which has NO advertising in it - just D.W., Angelina Ballerina, and other favorite girl characters.Yes, it's got all the Disney Princesses, but you may feel like the evil stepmother after having to say no to all the "I want"s. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!!!
The Young Rider is the BEST horse magazine for kids. It encourages horse lovers to love horses even more. It has great tips on riding English and Western saddle. It publishes letters that readers sent in the magazine. Young Rider also advertizes horse camps, tack, and riding clubs. Every magazine has two HUGE posters. My room is full of them. It talks about horse problems and how to cure them, horse breeds, stories, quizez, comics, and LOTS LOTS LOTS MORE! It is good for kids 5-15 and is great even if you are not a horse lover. All my freinds love this magazine! I loke this magazine! WHY CAN'T YOU!!! You will NOT be disipointed. So what are you waiting for? SUBSCRIBE NOW!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Young Rider Full of Ads
I purchased subscriptions to both "Ask" and "Muse" for my daughter (9 years old) and am thrilled at the lack of advertising in those magazines.I subscribed to "Young Rider," as my daughter is very much a horse lover.I was dismayed to find it full of advertisements. And not only that, but poor quality ads, irresponsible ads perpetuating gender stereotypes (e.g., males do not wear pink) and blatant consumerism ("From hoof to toe, wear the brand.")While I'm using the magazine as a means for teaching media literacy, we certainly will not be resubscribing. As to the content, it does seem informative, especially for a beginning rider, though the writing is not particularly compelling. And the articles are hard to find amidst all the marketing, making it visually confusing. While my daughter picked up her first issue of "Ask," sat down and did not get up until she'd read it cover to cover, she picked up "Young Rider," glanced through it, tossed it back down and has not yet returned to her first issue. And this is a child who is horse crazy -- not much of a testimonial for a horse magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars SPEND HOURS READING
The young rider is a child friendly magazine with bright photos and posters. They are realy good for even people who don't love horses! The young Rider provides stories on horse lessons, pony roundups, jumping, english, and western events! Children who don't like horses are sure to LOVE horses after subscribing for the Young Rider! It also has quizzes! I know it's good for ages 5-15! The Young Rider is always happy for you to send in letter or photos wich always have a chance of getting into the magazine. It talks about horses for sale and Zillions more! Young Rider gave me a penpall, nolege, posters, and many hours reading! There is not anything wrong with the young rider! it is a GREAT magazine! It is not just 5 stars it is 10,000 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to grow!
My 3 year old daughter loves this magazine and so do I! It features her favorite characters from PBS, Disney, and others totally commercial free. I expect this one to grow with her as well. Some of the activities are just right and some are a bit above her and we do them together or save until she's ready. She certainly won't outgrow this magazine before her subscription runs out!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is perfect for my 2 year old
I was in the local library and saw this magazine so I checked out several issues to read to my daughter. This morning, right after breakfast, she is going through the magazine on her own!She remembered the games that we played and replaying them on her own, shewas going over the stories we read and telling me about them, and she was trying to follow the maze on her own.
5-0 out of 5 stars superb
This is not full of ads although it is full of tv characters and that in and of itself is an ad. However, it is educational with cute activities that are easily appropriate for ages 2 and up.
