Not much value add
The problem with Computer Shopper is, it's neither a serious trade magazine like PC Mag, or a shopper's paradise like its former self was.If you want hardware tips, Maximum PC is way better.You can find pretty much everything in Computer Shopper for free on the web ...

Fantastic resource for PC builders.
A few weeks ago, I started building my first PC from scratch and have found Computer Shopper magazine the best resource. The reviews and articles really helped me decide what parts to use, and the recent "how to" guide on assembling a PC was a godsend. I don't think there's another magazine out there that provides such in-depth advice -- their writers really know what they're talking about!Plus, if I can't find what I'm looking for in the magazine itself, Computer Shopper's Web Buyer directs me to the sites where I can find what I need -- both technical help and the cheapest parts. I can't thank them enough for saving me all that time I would have spent surfing the Internet myself. I'd definitely recommend that anyone interested in customizing their own PC should sign up for Computer Shopper.

GOOD READ, VERY USEFUL
I have been reading Computer Shopper since it helped me buy my first home computer three years ago. I usually save the previous 12 issues for reference. Excellent magazine on the inner workings of Windows
This is *the* magazine dedicated to advanced topics on the Windows NT series (NT, 2000 and XP).As the most popular and one of the best operating systems, Windows NT series is incredibly complicated, and this magazine, issue after issue as well as on its cluttered website, gives you lots of detailed information.A lot of the contributors are respected programmers who really know Windows internals.You also get the "inside" view of Microsoft managers and developers from time to time.This is just one incredible resource for expert Windows uers.(After all, even an expert still has a lot to learn.)

Poor customer service, very average quality of content
JDJ has become a monopoly of sorts and is enjoying the ride.
Excellent
One of the few excellent Java magazines widely available. Recommended for all levels, but like with other magazines, the more advanced levels do not get as much coverage. If there is only one Java magazine to get, this one is probably it.

An incredible resource --
-- but I'm not quite sure who it's for. It's just so cool, though, that probably doesn't matter. This month's issue has projects that use FPGAs, that generate RF test signals, that do encryption on PIC processors, and, well, lots of other stuff. It's all at that place where analog circuitry, digital design, and software become interchangeable, like that software tone detector people would have implemented as an analog filter back when.
Straddles the line between "hobbyist" and "professional"
Circuit Cellar occupies a unique place in the world of electronics literature.Its scope (embedded systems) is a little too limited and the articles a little too advanced and discipline-specific to serve most of the dwindling hobby community.On the other hand, the magazine carries an enthusiasm and a sense of fun that's rarely seen in professional magazines.
Excellent information about embedded systems
I've been reading this magazine off and on since Electronics Now and Popular Electronics went down hill, and have been pleasantly suprised by the depth and quality of information provided. Design and implementation of topical projects are laid out and explained clearly along with the underlying theory. Don Lancaster always has an interesting spin on new products and ideas. Good Magzine but get it for free
This is one of those industry trade journals that they "charge" for but if you are in the business send for free. Visit their site and see if you qualify before you pay for a subscription.

Game business best practice magazine
This is the only magazine to my knowledge that deals with business practices as well as technical topics of game creation. GDM has postmortem on recent successful games, summarizing how these games were made, what the creators did right and what they could have done better. They also has columns devoted to Project Management, Game design, Graphics technique, Product reviews and trend analysis. Read more

A Must Have for PHP Developers
Simply the best magazine of its kind. Contains a varied bunch of in-depth, well written articles each and every month.
The must have resource for PHP developers
I used to buy php|architect in their PDF format, but have switched to the print edition since they started publishing it. This magazine has *a lot* more information than any PHP website I've seen. The articles are very long and incredibly in-depth--and they publish articles on topics that in many cases I haven't seen covered anywhere else. Yes, the magazine is a bit expensive, but it also has very little in the way of advertisements--and it focus exclusively on PHP, which can't be said of any other magazine out there. I doubt that the guy above even reads this mag... I say go for it, because if you're serious about PHP, it's definitely worth it!

why a journal?
For the full time PHP programmer, this is a nice journal to keep an eye on. It gives you an idea of recent interesting developments that involve coding in PHP.
