4-0 out of 5 stars A look at the high end
This magazine is fun to read, kind of like admiring expensive watches. And I would love to be able to afford some of the equipment they cover. But when a reviewer gets all excited about a $2100 power cord ("has an effortless musicality and imparts the body and soul of complex acoustic environments with almost erie palpability"), it's hard to take them seriously. "Sound and Vision" is better for mere mortals. "The Absolute Sound" lets you see how the other half lives and occasionally chuckle at them.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Magazine
The Absolute Sound is an outstanding magazine for the serious audio enthusiast. There are two main reasons why I would recommend this magazine.4-0 out of 5 stars Very High End Audio Information
This review is not intended to be worthy of its subject, but I'm surprised no one else has proferred, so here is some brief comment, until a more educated audio reader comes along (hopefully soon).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars stereophile Magazine
Good information about all types of sound equipments, and easy advice for undertanding that recomendations.

4-0 out of 5 stars For wealthy audiophiles
I've been reading Stereophile since the early days, when it was a thin, stapled newsletter extolling the virtues of AR turntables and Dynaco amps- neither of which would even make it into Stereophile's "Class D" selections these days.1-0 out of 5 stars no technical analysis AT ALL!
As a long time subscriber to the excellent Stereo Review magazine, I decided to broaden my horizens and try Stereophile.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars NYC life at its best!
I absolutely love this magazine! BlackBook has the latest on everything culture, art and fashion related. The GetLit page is the first place I look when I'm trying to find somewhere new and trendy to go.I recommend this mag to all of my friends, and they love it as much as I do!The BlackList is jam-packed with all the best places to go.I will never miss an issue!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best magazines out there for mod culture
Perhaps it is because my view is very NYC-centric but I find this magazine to be a great means of keeping abreast in the progressive culture scene despite my uptown address. The photography is fantastic. Working in headline fashion, this magazine is a great resource for up and coming designers and new things to keep watching. Before something is classifiable as "hip" anywhere else, its here.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool to look at, but when it comes to reading...
... I don't know.I guess my major complaint is that, if you aren't already privy to the latest in fashion, music, etc (like the other reviewer said, and he's quite right, this is a very hip magazine), then you'll probably feel pretty lowbrow. They don't really try to familiarize you with what's cool like GQ or DETAILS does; you're either in or you're not. However, it's definitely better than FLAUNT, which seems to be trying to imitate BLACK BOOK, in that the photography isn't as pretentious and the articles have a little more substance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great mag
This is a magazine. This is a magazine?Do yourself a favor and pick this up if you can get it for less than $20 an issue (like I do at my local Borders).Excellent quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mag
Not Only Black + White is a great Australian magazine, and of top quality.I used to buy it in bookstores here in New Zealand, but they don't seem to be available here anymore.I am not subscribing to it, but I'd keep getting them if they were available in bookshops where I live.I emailed the publisher twice about this, but I didn't get any response.Aside from that, this is a great mag (yes, it has fine art nude pictorials as well as lots more) and one that you would hang on to like a "coffee table" book rather than treat like a typical magazine. It has a thicker cover and pages than normal magazines too.For a magazine, you could almost rate it a 5, but nothing beats a proper book (no advertising, etc), so I rate this a 4.Aside from the photography, it also makes a good reference for page layout and typographical ideas as well, for anyone into desktop publishing. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars High end drool catcher
This is not a magazine for someone looking to spend $1500 on a home theatre setup. But it *will* introduce you to a whole new world of high end home automation and audio/visual products. While I'm not planning on spending $85k on my next entertainment center renovation, there *are* elements of these systems that fall within my price range, and the breadth of products reviewed helps me to understand where the pieces I choose fall into the overall pecking order.
2-0 out of 5 stars More like Interior Decorating than Electronic Home
This magazine emphasizes articles on really expensive professional home theater installations with lots of emphasis on photos and much less on technical details.Product reviews are shallow (Why you need this:It's way cool!).After a few issues you get tired of nothing new, especially if you're on a budget or a DIYer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Magazine
I love this magazine. It is great for anyone that wants to be on the cutting edge.I also like the fact that they give prices on each product they review. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Froma All I've Read
Although I have yet to subscribe to Aperture, what I've heard and what little I've seen advertised in one of Sally Mann's famous publications is enough to arouse my interest, and I can't wait to partake of a first issue of 'Aperture'.Feedback from other members is always anticipated and welcomed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the subscription
Aperture is indeed the preeminent art photography magazine, and consistently has enough good material to warrant a subscription independent of its clout.Although ostensively devoted to art photography, many of the spreads are essentially photojournalism.
1-0 out of 5 stars Pretentious and Plodding
Aperture is THE premier photographic magazine today... which is to say it embodies all the fashionable cliches and pretentions of the contemprary post-modern scene. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An okay mag that seems driven by ad revenue
The first impression I got on reading an issue was that the magazine is a mouthpiece for its advertiser's products. Seldom does one see a review that rates equipment in an "average" or, heaven forbid, "junk" status!
1-0 out of 5 stars The "Motortrend" of Home theater magazines.
This magazine is brought to you by the folks that wrote "Stereo Review." Only now they have a new name. This is the magazine that never met a piece of audio gear they did not like. They never compare various products against each other (in any meaningful way). They exclusively review gear made by the big (mostly Japanese) electronics firms and never touch upon the many wonderful & affordable equipment made by the small scale American, European and Chinese manufacturers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor equipment analysis and comparisons
S&V is a magazine that one would read if he/she were going to purchase a piece of home theater equipment and wanted to feel good about it.I don't think I have ever read a review of a piece of equipment that this magazine did not like.Very poor comparisons analysis and subjective reviews led me to stop reading this magazine.Home Theater and The Perfect Vision are much better mags if you want insightful reviews and comparisons of home theater gear. ... An amazing magazine. The quality is superb. I highly recommend this to any music lover. I will be anxiously waiting for the next issue. My collection has begun.

5-0 out of 5 stars The guitar world needed this!!!!
Finally, a killer looking instrument magazine with interesting articles about players and collectors. This mag covers a pretty wide range of topics--interviews with players, builder interviews, some historical/esoteric stuff, etc. Even has some artsy photo spreads of instruments themselves. But I loved every page of the first issue. This is mag is stunning! No tab or instruction but plenty of entertaining, smart articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars really is the best
I love turing people on to this magazine, they always love it, like I do!5-0 out of 5 stars Showcasing Some of the Best in Nature Photography
Nature's Best is a quarterly magazine (4 issues per year) dedicated to showcasing the best in nature photography today. It's format is slightly larger than standard at9x11 inches. Each issue is around 100 pages in length with almost no advertising. In addition to subscriptions, the magazine is funded by a handful of corporate sponsors, who account for the only advertising in the magazine, and that only amounts to a few pages. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Magazine Overall!!!!!!!
Guitar World Acoustic is a good overall magazine. This magazine is produced and published by the same company as Guitar One, Guitar World, and Bass Guitar, Future, Inc. My only real compalint is that this is a bimonthly magazine and it sells for more than Guitar One and Guitar World with are monthly. These two monthly magazines sell for a bout $19.95. Bass Guitar, which is another bimonthly magazine published by Future is only $16.95. I have a hard time understanding why. The interviews are awesome and I love the players that they spotlight. The lessons are great. I receive numerous industry magazines including, Guitar Player, Electronic Musician, Recording Magazine, Guitar World, Guitar One, as well as others. When I decided to subscribed to a "acoustic" guitar magazine, I couldn't make up my mind between Guitar World Acoustic and Acoustic Guitar. Therefore I subscribed to both. After a year of getting both magazine I found Guitar World Acoustic to be somewhat better for my taste. It also seemed to me that Guitar World Acoustic had more information in the one issue than Acoustic Guitar had in two. If you are into modern music and would like to subscribe to a magazine that reflects that then get GWA, if you are more the "singer-songwriter" type then you may like AG.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hit and miss like all of the other guitar magazines
This was ordered for my birthday in January, and I received the first issue today, which is the February/March issue. Maybe they have fixed the problems with subscription fulfillment. I guess I'll know for sure once I've gotten all of the issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best guitar magazines out there

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine - HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Yes - there are tons of great shots in the mag; great articles ( in French only ) , contests---very chic....HOWEVER---- customer service will treat you like the redheaded stepchild when you ask them " WHY HAVE YOU NOT SENT ME THE LATEST ISSUE OF PHOTO?? "....and you know it WILL HAPPEN. They only send you sporadic issues when THEY feel like it ( or so it would seem )... Most issues are available on the stand WEEKS before you get yours delivered via mail ( should it be the other way around??? ) And they wont give you a courtesy letter/postcard telling you when your subscription is up...that's for you to figure out. SO if you can deal with the lame french hold music when you call Photo's Cutomers Service CONSTANTLY, this is a great magazine..... cough...cough...vive la France!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine if you can actually get them to deliver it
This is my favorite magazine in the universe and the only one to which I have ever subscribed. However, after this, my second subscription is over, I plan to call it quits. The magazine never gets delivered unless I send several angry e-mails every month reminding them and demanding delivery. When the issues come they are often 2-3 months behind. The current issue is over three weeks late and who knows when and if I will ever see it. In the end, although this is a brilliant publication, it simply isn't worth the headache. Photo, if you're out there, please forward me the June issue.... and while you're at it get a head start on July and August and maybe they'll make it on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!
American photography could only WISH they knew what real photography is.

5-0 out of 5 stars on point
i often read this Magazine at my Local Book Store&it truly hits home.I Play Keyboards myself&always read on what they have to say on the latest technology also Interviews with different Artists&the Sounds they are Vibing On.you can't miss with this Magazine.very detailed on the subject matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keyboards and more
If you are a keyboard player, you probably already know about this publication. You are aware that there is no other magazine that fills this niche quite as well (although Electronic Musician comes close). You likely are a subscriber already, or you pick up an issue at the newstand every month. But anyone, keyboard player or not, who is interested in making music with technology, would be served well by checking out this magazine. "Keyboard" is almost a misnomer, actually, because, while keyboards are emphasized, there is much here regarding recording and using computers for creating music. Strange as it may sound, sometimes keyboards get short shrift in favor of coverage of software and technology. The crux of this magazine, to me, is the product review section. If an item wins a "Key Buy" designation, you know it is worth adding to your musical arsenal. It's worth saving the back issues for reference. All in all a splendid magazine for musicians. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic
This is perhaps my favorite Photography magazine. The printing is fantastic as is the subject matter. I really like the fact there are no ads in it at all. So many photography mags are just an extended catalog for B&H or Adorama that this is a breath of fresh air.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Photography Magazine
There's a lot to like about Lenswork - the selection of images, the quality of the printing, Bill Jay's "End Notes" - but the thing I like the most is that there is almost no discussion of equipment.Brooks Jensen (the editor/publisher) doesn't appear to care what camera you used to make a photograph, or how many miles through a raging blizzard you hiked to make it.All that matters is the image. And after you've finished looking at the images, you'll find a lot of wisdom and practical information packed into each issue, too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great shots!
This is a 'small' magazine in size but large in terms of inspiration. The photographs and the stories are not so much focused on technique but more on the artistic values and philosophy of photography. Each issue includes an interview with an artist as well as one or more sets of photographs. The publishers are deeply involved in photography and often contribute their own images. Like good art, the photographs show that good photographers can turn ordinary objects into interesting subjects. Hence, the inspirational value of the publication.Read more

The review of new photo products are excellent. Well written in my opinion. Highly recommend this magazine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of digital technology (but tape delayed)
