5-0 out of 5 stars Eagerly waiting
I greatly enjoyed reading this magazine in years past. However, I have not received anything yet from my Amazon.com order. I am eagerly waiting for my subscription to start!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars NYT Review of Books
Order placed early June. First issue of subscription not yet received. This is service?

4-0 out of 5 stars Respectable and important
I have been reading the NY Times Book Review for many many years. There rarely is a week when there is not some review of considerable interest to me. Though I oppose its political bias which is left liberal, I appreciate the solidity, and respectful way in which most reviews are written. There is a sense that for the Times books and culture in general have meaning and importance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could use less advertisements & more feature stories
While I really enjoy "Hobby Farm" magazine, I believe it could use some improvement. I used to work in publishing, so I understand advertisers are where revenue comes from, but come on! The last issue of Hobby Farm was almost 90% advertisement and had only a 3 page feature cover story. The rest of the features were on average a small page long. When "Hobby Farm" has a feature story it is usually a well done one. For example one cover feature was on raising waterfowl, this was an excellent story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just Say Moo
I read Successful Farming, Progressive Farming and Backwoods Home for years. They are all fine magazines. But if you want to do a little hobby farm this magazine really fits. They have a wealth of information in each copy.I'm really impressed. It's really targeted to those people who have five to thirty acres, a few animals and may or may not want to make a little money on this side or as minimum have fun but do it the right way.My first copy was their tractor issue.Very good info. And I'm an engineer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential
I spent several years in the tv/movie industry. The Hollywood Reporter was required reading everywhere I worked--from the small, peripheral businesses to the major studios. Most people subscribe to both the Hollywood Reporter and Variety. If you can afford it, by all means subscribe to both. But if you're one of the millions trying to break into the business, you must read at least one, and, in my opinion, the Hollywood Reporter is the one to get. For one thing, the traditional magazine size makes it easier to handle than Variety's "newspaper" style. For another, the Hollywood Reporter just seems to provide more news and better writing (Variety uses an obnoxious shorthand--e.g., "prexy" for president; "pic" for movie (picture)). Finally, the Hollywood Reporter may be boring compared to Entertainment Weekly, but a trade publication that covers the entertainment industry is still a lot more exciting than one covering, say, the logging industry.

3-0 out of 5 stars For people in the business
Hollywood Reporter is not for the layman. It's a business magazine dealing with the deals of Hollywood, the numbers and profit. It's still interesting, but it's not for everyone. I tried a trial of the magazine and they would arrive a few days later. The July 8th issue arrived on July 11th. Yesterday's news is old news.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Entertainment Industry Resource
If you're interested in going beyond the gossip and into the mechanics of the entertainment industry, then the Hollywood Reporter is for you.It covers television, film, video games, music and more.Find out about the latest business deals, contracts, technology and trends in the industry.I recommend this newspaper for anyone in (or wanting to break in) to the professional end of the entertainment industry. If you're looking for more consumer-friendly entertainment news, I recommend Entertainment Weekly. If you're looking for information about celebrity life, I recommend People or US Weekly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is what a guitar mag should look and sound like
I agree with the other reviewers who point out the many useful music tools in this mag. The UK is where English started so if you like literate writers rather than being pitched to like an 8 year old you'll like this magazine. My gripes are that I can buy them at big box bookstores for pennies more than the subscription rate. The price fluctuates with market $ vs Pound/Euro and the delivery time for the 1st issue is 12 to 16 weeks! The stores get them faster. So if they had a better subscription deal and faster delivery I would definitely subscribe. Besides anyone that calls a tube a valve and a wrench a spanner is okay in my book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all about the music
I've been buying guitar magazines since 1990 and have a collection of hundreds of them. This one is the best! It has always been good, but these days I think it stands out from the crowd even more. I've seen magazines start out good, full of useful information and sheet music, then plunge to the depths of crappy industry gossip and little else. These guys have kept a strong loyalty to the musicians who wanna play, rather than the ones who care about image and nothing much else.
5-0 out of 5 stars A modular music library
Most guitar magazines seem to be heavy on discussion of artists but light on actual music. GT still talks about artist's styles, but then gives you the tab and standard notation for one of their works or a class on how to solo in their style. A standard issue contains sections like rock, jazz, acoustic fingerstyle, Funk and country, followed by workshops on (for eg.) using altered tunings, increasing fretting speed, and other interesting things.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars King magazine: Mirror for the real world!
I love this magazine(not because of the big ole booty's), because of the way they present the ladies. I have never seen a cover of King showing some skinny, no meat eating, starving her self to death type chic! They show real women, with real shapes. It shows how women look in the real world! I love it, and yeah I must admit, I do love the big ole booty's!! Sorry Ladies, I am a man! LoL!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dubs and Dimes
I love King magazine! With that said the only thing I would change is the ratio of beautiful ladies to Rim advertisements. You have to flip through several pages of bling before getting to the "meat" of the magazine and the reason I bought it in the first place. I do have to say that I am impressed with how they make it a true mens magazine for people with "exotic" tastes and not a generic magazine with hot girls. BUY IT!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Wizard Magazine
This magazine would get five stars except for the fact that it does not get shipped out on time and the customer service department for Wizard Universe does not answer your questions in a timely manner. The magazine has good articles to read and a descent price guild; however there are not that many books that they price. Many books that come out do not see the light of day in Wizard unless the Wizard staff thinks they are hot books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest magazine about comic books
There are so many great comicbooks being published nowadays, but unfortunately I don't get the chance to read as many of them as I would like.Wizard is a great magazine that keeps me in the loop on what's happening in the stories of all the mainstream comics, what's going on in the industry, what's coming up, and so much more. And it does it all in a fun, creative way.Yes, it could probably cover the independent comicbook scene a little better, but at the same time there are other publications that do that, and Wizard is a mainstream magazine so it makes sense that it focuses on DC and Marvel.I'm not complaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars A window into popular culture
My son, now 20, has been a Wizard reader since the age of 12 or so.From Wizard, he gets the most up-to-date news about many of the items of greatest interest to him as an artist and aficionado of popular culture. He enjoys learning about the art of comics, and often shares bits of information he has learned from Wizard.PC Gamer is the only magazine he subscribes to besides Wizard - he gets the rest of his news and information online. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Me: Let the Games begin!Audience: Oh no! Not that tired old line!
In my elementary school gifted program we read Games. In the walk-in closet with the oil pastels, clay, toothpicks and other supplies were hundreds of back copies that I borrowed on rotation. I still love Games every bit as much today, but I can still smell the old classroom when I read it, so I imagine I'm a bit biased. 5-0 out of 5 stars More than I need!
This magazine has way more puzzles than I can do in a month. I love the cryptic crosswords.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enhance your mental agility, with Games Magazine
I've been puzzling with Games since it was first published. Some of the changes have been good, some disappointing (to me, because a favorite may have been deleted), but this magazine has something for every level of puzzler.

4-0 out of 5 stars Occasional outstanding reviews marred by British chauvinist quirkiness
It seems almost sacriligeous to find fault with the TLS which for many is a kind of book-review Bible. But whencompared to other book- review venues including the NY Times Bookreview and the NY Review of Books, I find it somehow chauvinistically British and narrowly focused. I also must admit to not liking the skimpy look of the journal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fallen stars
This magazine used to be a lot better but ever since James Miegs left it has fallen on hard times.Glenn Kenny runs the place now, and the whole magazine seems to basically be his personal property. They focus more on commercial movies like The Dukes of Hazzard instead of higher brow fare the way they once did.Their articles are not as well written as they once were.Everything has gotten worse intead of better.
1-0 out of 5 stars Premiere
I placed oreder on 6/22 got first issue on 7/21 which was ok, but, got the June issue which was far outdated and still no July issue even though August is nearly out on stands.

4-0 out of 5 stars Continues to get better
While I've always enjoyed Premiere, I really feel like this magazine has become better than ever at what it does.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!!
I just wrote a review for OPM, and had forgotten about this magazine.I also used to subscribe, and had recently let my subscription run out.I will not say it is not because I do not like this magazine, but because I am trying to save some money. But the fact is, that this is probably the best multiplatform gaming magazine on the market.
5-0 out of 5 stars The gaming mag that pays for itself.
I have been subscribing to this mag for a couple years, and think it's one of the best gaming mags available.I have several different consoles, and appreciate that they review games for all platforms.I like the rating system (1-10) instead of the too-hard-to-pin-down 1-5, and find the reviews well written and objective. While I have been gaming for years, I am not necessarily versed in computer lingo, but I never feel like an idiot after reading this mag; the writing is erudite but very easy to understand.I read several different gaming magazines each month, and feel this magazine strikes exactly the right balance between the more serious and more frivolous gaming magazines in the industry.
4-0 out of 5 stars One of the Better Gaming Mags
Since first getting this mag from Gamestop as one of those free add on things you get when you buy games there I have come to really like it. Unlike other magazines who only seem to care about backing one system or another Game Informer talks about everything that is going on in the gaming world, even addressing the serious issues of children and M rated games. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it for a Marine Fishkeeper
First the positive. This magazine is well laid-out and has good photography for the most part. The articles are informative. There are enough reviews on here extolling the virtues of this magazine, so let me tell you the downside.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Aquarium Hobby Magazine
I have been reading TFH for about thirty years, and it is by far the most comprehensive magazine resource for the advanced hobbyist. It costs a little more than the others, but it attracts the best authors and the photography is stunning. The editors take a more scientific slant than that offered in the two other popular Aquarium magazines, and though I subscribe to all three, TFH captures most of my attention. If you are a serious aquarium keeper, or want to become one, you have to check out this fine magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine
This magazine is no doubt the best aquarium magazine in the world.not only does it have clear and understandable information for the beggining and advanced hobbyist, but it's articles cover brand new things, aquarium news, fish profiles, that no other can match. For this reason, i humbly reccomend tropical fish hobbyist. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars HELLO MAGAZINE
I ordered HELLO on Jan.10,2005 through Amazon for my wife. She has not rec'd an issue since July,2005. Neither the magazine nor Amazon has succeeded in restarting deliveries and compensating her for the missed issues. In view of the $266 subscription rate I find this to be irresponsble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Only...
to the defunct and much missed Armchair Detective magazine. Comparisons aside, Strand is the BEST of a large group that range from glossy to fanzines & newsletters covering the mystery genre. VERY ENJOYABLE!! And don't sell some of them short either!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Strand Magazine
I recommend this magazine to writers and readers who love mystery stories. The stories are enjoyable. They have an old time flavor that I like immensely.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality
I have to say I was surprised to find such great quality in a mystery magazine. Most magazines today are just filled with advertisements and relentless self-promotion; The Strand is really different. They have about eight stories per issue, by such writers as Ray Bradbury, John Mortimer, Peter Lovesey, and Edward Hoch. And these just aren't the mystery stories, which are time burners like in the stuff found in Ellery Queen and Alfred Hitchcock Magazine. These plots are well constructed and will stay with you long after you read them.Read more

The magazine is great, but the 1 year subscription I purchased for my son's birthday turned out to be just 4 issues. Problem never got resolved. It's a total disappointment as far as customer service. Better off buying at thebookstore.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Magazine, But Sucky Service!
I love reading this magazine... that is, whenever it decides to arrive in my mailbox. The mailing system of this company sucks much. I had inquired missing issues before (two months were missing), got an letter of apology, and a free copy of the missing issues. But, alas, it has happened again. And this time, I don't feel like sending out three emails again, asking where my magazines are. Buyer beware!

2-0 out of 5 stars Late
It's almost as if this magazine writes it's stories 2 mounths in advance onces you get the "latest" copy it's news that has been repeated 7961,583 times . It does however have decent posters (that's why it got a 2 and not just 1) but thats about the only thing that this magazine has to offer.
3-0 out of 5 stars its pretty good
i think that this magazine is good once in while but not as a subscription. the magazine doesnt vary enough for a subscription. i get this magazine maybe once every 4 months and it doesnt get boring. plus i like the posters.

3-0 out of 5 stars Typical bubblegum tween stuff...
From grades 4 to 6, I read "M" magazine religously, thinking it was one of the coolest things in the world. And I did enjoy it, a lot. But by the time I got to 7th grade, this magazine just got kind of dull and boring. I would say that the target range for this magazine would probably be ages 9-12; if you're older than that, you will probably get so fed up with the short articles and constant articles on Hilary Duff that you'll throw the magazine out the window or something.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good if you're a teenager, otherwise avoid
If you're a teenage guitarist and want to learn Nickelback, Green Day, and nu-metal songs, then this magazine is for you. There's also some pretty good tips for beginners from time to time. But in the last several years the quality of the feature articles and interviews has gone steadily downhill, and there are far too many ads. As many people have said, sometimes it doesn't seem to be geared towards musicians at all anymore. The smarmy, "hipper than thou" Rolling Stone, Spin, Pitchfork Media style of writing seems to be taking over the mag.And other styles of music such as blues, country, jazz, etc, are pretty much ignored. But like I said, if you're a teenager and you see it on the newsstand and there's a song in it you would like to learn, pick it up, otherwise avoid this magazine.

I've been reading Guitar World for quite a long time now. I found the recent addition of the CD-ROM to be a pretty nice feature and it's really helpful to see the artists play the songs themselves so you can better learn how to play the songs and do the lessons in each issue. Guitar World offers a lot of different styles in various issues. One issue might be a metal issue while another might be blues and then there's still some funk and classic rock. I find that the articles with the various guitar players to be usually interesting as well as the colum devoted to producers. The endpage is always the gear setup of a well known player which I think gives a little insight if one finds a sound on a record they really like. Definitely not a bad buy for those things.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised
I wish that when I purchased this subscription I would have read all of the reviews.Unlike the description included on the Amazon website, the subsription does NOT include the CD-ROM, which costs an additional $1/issue.And, if you want to purchase the CD-ROMs for past issues, they cost $4/disk.Sometimes a bargain isn't really a bargain.Buyer beware. ...
