3-0 out of 5 stars Once a great magazine-Now its better then average
Ive been a reader of Play for three years or more.During this time Ive watched format changes, review changes, and content changes come and go.Ive watched them change their rating system a couple of times, partner with corporates to make it a more finacially viable magazine, and Ive watched them dish trash and heap compliments on other media.
5-0 out of 5 stars the best gaming magazine ever created....period
are you sick of those annoying game magazines that give only opinionated b.s instead of real reviews? are you sick and tired of having a game magazine latch on to one console and ignore all the others? are you sick of overrated games getting good reviews simply because they are hyped up? well so was I and I can honestly say that play delivers. you can tell when your reading a review that the reviewer actually played the game.I also applaud play for saying that grand theft auto is overrated (duh ive been saying that for 2 years) and I havent even gotten to the anime section..yes the people who write these reviews write them just as well as the game reviews. they treat anime as a serious form of art which is something I appreciate
5-0 out of 5 stars For the love of the game
Play magazine is consistently one of the best, if not the best, in its field.Well produced and always well written, it covers gaming and Anime as serious art with the respect they deserve. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I have grown up on this mag!!!
If you are a bassist and you even need to read a review to figure out if this is the right mag for you, best get your head checked! I have subscribed to Bass Player since 1992 and will keep renewing my subcription until I am so old I have to have my assistant read me all the features by my craftmatic lounger. Forget Fox news, Bass Player is fair and balanced, covering everyone from the sad passing of NHOP (greatest upright player of all time) to all the standards like Jaco and Vic.Dont think that you little mall-core kids are not rep'd...all the nu-metal low enders are there as well, even though they suck the rust from under my fretwire.I have always respected this magazine and the writers seem like family...go get this now fool! word.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting!!
I ordered this mag in January and here it is, April, and I still haven't received the first issue.I have been on the phone with Synapse and they told me TWICE that they would get back to me with info on my subscription within 24 hours and I still haven't heard from them. The mag is great but the subscription service seems far below Amazon's usual service.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Magazine for All Dancers!
I think this magazine is perfect for anyone who is serious about dance. It covers a lot of different types of dance like Ballet, Jazz, and Hip hop.The "advice for dancers" column is very helpful and the advertisements (for dance shoes, workshops, auditions, equipment, etc.) are useful rather than annoying. Therefore, I would recommend this magazine to anyone who loves to dance.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE DANCE MAG!
Every Dancer would love Dance Magazine. The stories are intresting and cober all aspects of diffrent types pf dance. And the information given really helps dancers stay healthy and strong! I love Dance Magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't believe no one has reviewed this magazine!
I don't currently subscribe to Dance Magazine. But I was a subscriber for seven years some time ago and I have to take a moment to point out its merits here, especially since no one has done so. Read more

This comic book tries to emulate the innocent 1969 charm of the original Scooby-Doo Where are You? TV show but is really just a poorly disguised educational bore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a great read after so many years
I used to buy Ebony when I lived in the US and I have a real soft spot for this magazine.
5-0 out of 5 stars SO PROUD OF EBONY MAGAZINE FORTRUDGING THROUGH THE STORM
Ever since I was a youth growing up in the urban communities of New York, I always looked up to Ebony Magazine as the source and inspiration of Black America to achieve all that seems impossible. EBONY HAS CONTINUED TO REMAIN AT THE TOP OF ITS CLASS. I commend Ebony Magazine for staying true to its ideals and featuring affluential and successful Black Americans as they have paid tribute to throughout the years and so well deserved. As a magazine editor, I have seen many magazines come and go due to changes insociety and consumer trends. Many changed their purpose and wound up grossly succumbing to hype, eye-candy and images that degrade our people and are the cause for damage to the Black family's infrastructure and values.I held back my buying dollar and made a decision that there are only 10 magazines on the market that I will support that uphold what I want to see in a publication. One of these publications is Ebony magazine and will always be EBONY MAGAZINE. I know quality when I read it, and EBONY has still got it!

5-0 out of 5 stars EBONY COLLECTOR
I have been reading Ebony magazine for as long as I can remember. I have the great luck of having a mother whom saved most of her issues so that her children could see the different changes in the black community over the pass years.Sad to say in the later years of Ebony, it's mainly have covered the more famous and rich of the black community. Yeah, they still cover some of the up to date black issues, but lately, the articles are more of 'guess what's going on in the neighborhood' with no resolution to the problem that the article was about. Don't get me wrong, this is a great magazine, but compared to its earlier years, its slipping. I know there were plenty of famous and rick black folks on the covers back then, but when you constantly are putting celebrities on the cover, it loses it rep. as a news for the black community magazine...prime example: how is it in 2005 a cover was not dedicated to the victims of New Orleans(whom were mostly black)? Granted, one of the best issues in 2005was the one dedicated to the founder of Ebony (John H. Johnson) It was truly a great reflection of what Ebony magazine was about back when the magazine was still a child. All I can pray for is the someone will take a good look at what started the magazine and what set it aside from all other magazines and get back to that formula before it's too late. By-the-way, my issues are from 1954 to current, with very few issues missing, and I am always looking for the ones I don't have. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource!
The single most valuable part of Classical Singer is the audition listings found in the back of every issue. This is the easiest way for singers to find out about upcoming auditions. The articles are usually short, and cover a wide range of topics.I recommend that every professional or up and coming singer subscribe to this magazine, join Opera America, and purchase Opera America's publications for singers. These two resources together provide all the information you need to make it in this business. If you are just an opera fan, then this magazine might not be of as much interest. In that case I would recommend Opera News.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift
I bought Classical Singer for my daughter who is in High School looking to attend college. We were surprised when we found a magazine just for singers. It was by far the best gift we could get her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeping Classical singers in " Pitch"
I recently, for the first time, discovered the" Classical Singer". I have often dreamed of producing a magazine that gives singers like myselfcategorised, concise ,variety ofeasy to readcommunication on current events in the music world. Who are the current and rising stars?Where do they perform? How do I go about finding and agent? Who and where are the choruses, opera groups, to which I could apply. This magazine covers the need of a singer predominantly.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of U.S., Possibly World
This is the best U.S. publication for chess and perhaps the best in the world. I have purchased or subscribed to most chess magazines in the U.S. and have purchased many from other countries as well. 4-0 out of 5 stars A look at the high end
This magazine is fun to read, kind of like admiring expensive watches. And I would love to be able to afford some of the equipment they cover. But when a reviewer gets all excited about a $2100 power cord ("has an effortless musicality and imparts the body and soul of complex acoustic environments with almost erie palpability"), it's hard to take them seriously. "Sound and Vision" is better for mere mortals. "The Absolute Sound" lets you see how the other half lives and occasionally chuckle at them.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Magazine
The Absolute Sound is an outstanding magazine for the serious audio enthusiast. There are two main reasons why I would recommend this magazine.4-0 out of 5 stars Very High End Audio Information
This review is not intended to be worthy of its subject, but I'm surprised no one else has proferred, so here is some brief comment, until a more educated audio reader comes along (hopefully soon).Read more

Good information about all types of sound equipments, and easy advice for undertanding that recomendations.

4-0 out of 5 stars For wealthy audiophiles
I've been reading Stereophile since the early days, when it was a thin, stapled newsletter extolling the virtues of AR turntables and Dynaco amps- neither of which would even make it into Stereophile's "Class D" selections these days.1-0 out of 5 stars no technical analysis AT ALL!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... Their Web site sells a year subscription for $45. I find that Amazon, or whoever their affiliate is, repeatedly sells magazine subscritions for more than the actual magazine itself.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretension, thy name is Believer.
Yep, pretension is the name of game here. Although it's not really pretension - its a kind of uber-pretense, a pretension so pretensive in its self-mockery that it somehow doubles back itself and actually becomes almost worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Opera Listeners
This is the magazine to have with all the news and opera events around the world. The photography is always excellent. During the Met opera season each Saturday broadcast is covered including timings of each of the acts and between act features. The back always has reviews of new opera CD's and DVD. If you love opera you need this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Opera for the Masses, Polished and Informative
I have only recently become an opera enthusiast partially because I realized I needed to be old enough to appreciate it and also because of my intimidation of those who are quite knowledgeable about it. That's why I heartily endorse a subscription to "Opera News", which I find to be by far, the most reader-friendly of magazines dedicated to opera and classical music. It is probably not as comprehensive as others are, but it makes for educational and entertaining reading at a level that would make sense to anyone interested in learning more about opera. Published monthly by the Metropolitan Opera Guild, it naturally places primary focus on the Met's performances, but it also does an excellent job in covering performances at venues around the world. The layout and graphic quality are as polished as any popular entertainment publication.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb, Quality Magazine on Every Level!
OPERA NEWS had been around for a long time.It used to be the vehicle to reference for casts of upcoming Saturday radio Live from Texaco! performances of operas at the Met and in those days the paper quality was a bit cheap and the articles spare. Readers were still given the operas with casts and dates throughout the US.Now the magazine has a rich luster to add to its visual appeal. The production qualities have improved considerably, but more important, the writing has become world class. There are biographies of both past and present Opera Stars along with informed articles on historical aspects of opera - composers, opera houses, and musical styles. The reviews of new recordings both on CD and on DVD of full operas and recitals are highly recommended to those in a quandary as to which recording of which opera they should purchase. The color photography of sets, opera in performance not only at the Metropolitan Opera (the featured house, of course) but also at the innovative houses here and abroad, is first rate.Well worth the relatively low price for a subscription and a 'must read' for operaphiles around the globe. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite magazines.
It is a good magazine. Although, it showcases the same musicians on the cover. It showcases bands like Fallou Boy on the cover more like XXL does with G-Unit. The features are pretty good. I like Ask a Superstar, that is probably one of the best of them. Also, their reviews, I agree with them sometimes, and other times, they give way too low ratings. Also, I have had the subscription for a while now and the magazine never fails to entertian me when it comes to Music. I also like the half naked girls. Don't we all? Give a chance when you can. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great mag
I love this magazine because it keeps me up on celebrity gossip, and it lets me know what to wear, where to get it, and where to get it cheaper!I wish that a subscription wasn't so much $ though.I used to pick one up at the grocery store once a month, but they don't sell it in my new state (just moved).I'll keep looking.

3-0 out of 5 stars Same as most other magazines, but a little different
If you are already familiar with gossip magazines such as People, US Weekly, In Touch, etc., you may have seen this or even picked up a copy of it at the newsstand. And, while this magazine focuses a little bit more on clothing choices and lifestyles of celebrities, it still has the makings of a gossip magazines. These include up-to-minute news on who's pregnant, married, going out, etc., along with movie, TV, and celebrity news, plus the occasional important news story, although that is really rare.
