3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Opera Listeners
This is the magazine to have with all the news and opera events around the world. The photography is always excellent. During the Met opera season each Saturday broadcast is covered including timings of each of the acts and between act features. The back always has reviews of new opera CD's and DVD. If you love opera you need this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Opera for the Masses, Polished and Informative
I have only recently become an opera enthusiast partially because I realized I needed to be old enough to appreciate it and also because of my intimidation of those who are quite knowledgeable about it. That's why I heartily endorse a subscription to "Opera News", which I find to be by far, the most reader-friendly of magazines dedicated to opera and classical music. It is probably not as comprehensive as others are, but it makes for educational and entertaining reading at a level that would make sense to anyone interested in learning more about opera. Published monthly by the Metropolitan Opera Guild, it naturally places primary focus on the Met's performances, but it also does an excellent job in covering performances at venues around the world. The layout and graphic quality are as polished as any popular entertainment publication.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb, Quality Magazine on Every Level!
OPERA NEWS had been around for a long time.It used to be the vehicle to reference for casts of upcoming Saturday radio Live from Texaco! performances of operas at the Met and in those days the paper quality was a bit cheap and the articles spare. Readers were still given the operas with casts and dates throughout the US.Now the magazine has a rich luster to add to its visual appeal. The production qualities have improved considerably, but more important, the writing has become world class. There are biographies of both past and present Opera Stars along with informed articles on historical aspects of opera - composers, opera houses, and musical styles. The reviews of new recordings both on CD and on DVD of full operas and recitals are highly recommended to those in a quandary as to which recording of which opera they should purchase. The color photography of sets, opera in performance not only at the Metropolitan Opera (the featured house, of course) but also at the innovative houses here and abroad, is first rate.Well worth the relatively low price for a subscription and a 'must read' for operaphiles around the globe. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite magazines.
It is a good magazine. Although, it showcases the same musicians on the cover. It showcases bands like Fallou Boy on the cover more like XXL does with G-Unit. The features are pretty good. I like Ask a Superstar, that is probably one of the best of them. Also, their reviews, I agree with them sometimes, and other times, they give way too low ratings. Also, I have had the subscription for a while now and the magazine never fails to entertian me when it comes to Music. I also like the half naked girls. Don't we all? Give a chance when you can. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars It used to be cool.
Instinct magazine has become one of the most boring and vacuous magazines. It used to be funny, cool, and bitchy. Now, it takes itself way too seriously. It used to be like that cute alterna-boy (NOT boi) that kept everybody laughing. Now its just like all the other gym bunnys that go clubbing every night.Even Joel Perry and Dave White can't save it anymore. They have Camper English writing the exercise segments, for ...'s sake! I'm moving on to Radar magazine.

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING!!
This magazine is one of the most boring gay publications I have ever encountered. There is very little in it to merit subscribing. All fluff, no substance...no creativity....nothing.
5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to check out this magazine!
This magazine is absolutely incredible. It is funny, informative, and best of all, doesn't take itself so seriously. You get a very fresh and hip writing style that keeps you entertained from cover to cover.Nothing at all like it's competitors. You just have to try it for yourself. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Photos and Ads, Little Content
Interview is definitely a different type of magazine for me- someone who usually reads business and travel mags- and it's not quite what I expected. With a title like "Interview" I read my first copy of this magazine anticipating pages and pages of nothing but interviews. It turns out that interviewing is the main focus of the magazine, but it's not the only one. There is substantial space given to fashion, movies, and other areas, too. Some of these columns are worth an occasional look, but they failed to grab my attention. The writers seem to play it safe, and that includes the interview section. They don't ask many daring or controversial questions. They keep it simple, asking questions about an entertainer's latest album or movie, without delving much into their personal lives.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine.
Interview is one of my favorite magazines. The interviews are always good. I think that the interviews are more candid since it's done by peers. I also think that the photo shoots in the Interview are some of the best around.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warhol In Spirit, But Still Fresh
This magazine is like no other. The interviews are fantastic, the pictures are great, and it's very original. I can understand people not liking it if they're used to and prefer the typical, predictable magazine format.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best source for CBS Soaps
This magazine isn't particularly well written or thought-provoking, but it does give the best recaps available for all my favorite CBS Soaps. I work all day, so this is my chance to keep on top of all the happenings! They give good coverage of all four CBS shows. Ordering the magazine from Amazon was very easy and made it simple to renew my subscription.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very average
Ok, the secret is out... I'm a closet soap opera fan. I watch As The World Turns and Guiding Light regularly, and occasionally All My Children. This magazine is ideal for someone who's a casual viewer and only follows one network. The writing is that great, although it isn't bad, per se. It's just very elementary. Other magazines about soaps have more intelligent critiques of acting and stories. The "spoilers" aren't as good as in other magazines, either, and the recaps aren't as up to date as in SOD or SPW.Overall, for what it costs, I'd say just get Soap Opera Digest or Soap Opera Weekly. It's a bit better than Soap Opera Update, though, which is why I gave it 2 stars as opposed to 1. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars High end drool catcher
This is not a magazine for someone looking to spend $1500 on a home theatre setup. But it *will* introduce you to a whole new world of high end home automation and audio/visual products. While I'm not planning on spending $85k on my next entertainment center renovation, there *are* elements of these systems that fall within my price range, and the breadth of products reviewed helps me to understand where the pieces I choose fall into the overall pecking order.
2-0 out of 5 stars More like Interior Decorating than Electronic Home
This magazine emphasizes articles on really expensive professional home theater installations with lots of emphasis on photos and much less on technical details.Product reviews are shallow (Why you need this:It's way cool!).After a few issues you get tired of nothing new, especially if you're on a budget or a DIYer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Customer Service
I read a few reviews on amazon and other sites about Acoustic Guitar before deciding to subscribe to it.I paid them on the 1st of May 2006 and my first copy was supposed to be the July issue (which hasn't yet turned up), on writing to them I got a response saying that I should expect it any day, well I bought their word for it, but it never reached me. It was the same story for every issue and everytime I would write to them, all that they had to say is that I should reconfirm my postal address (which is ridiculous cause I had been getting their renewal notices before even a single issue reached me, and I had brought that to their notice).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
Unless you're into shredding, adding unnatural effects to your sound, or the latest opinions of the hard/punk rockers, this is the magazine for you.Filled with useful lessons and tips for everything from blues and country to swing and jazz, and, naturally, a lot of ads for acoustic guitars. Also, it doesn't seem to focus on any particular age group in it's ads or featured interviews/articles as many of the others do.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Quality Acoustic Guitar Magazine
This a good magazine for someone who wants to learn to play folk or fingerstyle music. I have tried all of the other magazines and this magazine as far as content and price are above the rest. That being said, this magazine is only a good suppliment for your guitar learning. Even if you don't desire to do anything but strum an acoustic guitar, I don't think this magazine can be your one source of literature. I would recommend that this magazine be purchased along with one of the mainstream magazines such as Guitar One or Guitar World. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars complete
This is the best & most complete music magazine out there. The interviews, sections, photographs & reviews are all great. The award winning review section is incredibly wide and complete. It's clear these people care about music.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Magazine is one of our finest trust me...
...it is also one of the things that makes me think of home when I am not there. Q has a definitve style in the music market, while most music mags focus on a musical genre or a particular target audience, Q lets any music or artist with an ounce of talent or credibility be their prize. To this end they have featured musical interviews with everyone from Madonna to Leonard Cohen, Blur to George Michael. The breadth is incredible, the journalistic style is artistic and grittily honest. The interest and need to share on the subject of sound talent is endless. The only musical snobbery you will bare witness to here is an avid aversion to the growing "pop stars/pop idol/American idol/x factor", style dross whichfloods todays market. Thank goodness they do so instead of pandering to it without question like the mass of vile celeb trash mags do! I use the term "celeb" in it's loose sense here since one only has to show ones naked behind on Big Brother to be labelled with this dubiuos accalade these days!
5-0 out of 5 stars If Spin was written by Brits...
There used to be tons of music magazines in Britain, but gradually they've disappeared, giving way to lifestyle magazines that run the gamut from celebrity gossip, to articles on (of all things) health. Q has always been focused on music and is pretty much the best barometer of the British music scene. It's stylish, irreverent and intelligent. They're aren't afraid to offend the interviewees neither. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An okay mag that seems driven by ad revenue
The first impression I got on reading an issue was that the magazine is a mouthpiece for its advertiser's products. Seldom does one see a review that rates equipment in an "average" or, heaven forbid, "junk" status!
1-0 out of 5 stars The "Motortrend" of Home theater magazines.
This magazine is brought to you by the folks that wrote "Stereo Review." Only now they have a new name. This is the magazine that never met a piece of audio gear they did not like. They never compare various products against each other (in any meaningful way). They exclusively review gear made by the big (mostly Japanese) electronics firms and never touch upon the many wonderful & affordable equipment made by the small scale American, European and Chinese manufacturers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor equipment analysis and comparisons
S&V is a magazine that one would read if he/she were going to purchase a piece of home theater equipment and wanted to feel good about it.I don't think I have ever read a review of a piece of equipment that this magazine did not like.Very poor comparisons analysis and subjective reviews led me to stop reading this magazine.Home Theater and The Perfect Vision are much better mags if you want insightful reviews and comparisons of home theater gear. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Funny, but short
I bought a subscription for my husband as a gift for Father's day. I received one issue late June and just received another 2 days ago. The onion online is hilarious, the print version isn't as good. Only 2 pages of funny articles (roughly 4 small articles) and the rest are movie reviews and advertisements. I still gave it three stars because the onion is amusing despite those two problems. I'm sticking to my online dose of the onion.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Things Out There!!!
the onion is really great. i've never read an issue that didn't crack me up. it's the news with a comical twist. i could always pick up a free copy in nyc but i just subscribe to it because it's totally worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and More
The Onion is famous for its current-events and popular culture satires, which are consistently spot-on.The brash sense of humor and subtle insights into the personalities and issues being addressed makes this magazine worth its admittedly hefty subscription rate. The magazine contains more material than the website, so you definitely want to get your hot little hands on the paper edition.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best All Around Metal Magazine!!
I've been a subscriber to REVOLVER for over three years now and I must say that they are the best "bang for your buck" music mag there is, period! They pretty much cover all the bases of heavy music (Extreme, Doom, Death, Grind, Metalcore, Hardcore even punk at times). I'd love to check out other metal mags, well the good ones anyways (BW&BK, Anvil, Terrorizer), Sorry but Hit Parader and Metal Edge are kinda lame, too little too late, but also, I simply don't have the cash for a $100+ subscription, all though you do get free sampler cd's with great bands w/ each mag, REVOLVER bust's you out w/ free mp3's each issue too, so you do get to hear something, even though personally I think they could be a little more cutting edge w/ their mp3 choices as they tend to stay in safe Territory as far as what they push, whereas Terrorizer and BW&BK really give you "Extreme" music to listen to, as well as their reviews (they have gotten a bit better). I am however a little pissed, as well as confused as to why I just renewed my 3 year subscription for $15 and it's only $10 even hear on Amazon... Promo? i guess. Oh well, simply put, this is the mag to get if you enjoy Metal Music magazines.
