5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect.
Buying video equipment used to be pretty straightforward but now that you can or are about to commit 4 figures or perhaps even 5 to 6 figures towards television and a video system - you will find the most unbiased and smartest answers from PERFECT VISION.4-0 out of 5 stars My favorite HT magazine
The biggest complaint I have it that it's not published every month. There are some minor mistakes in reviews and like most current audio/HT magazines (except for the hard to find Audio Critic) they follow the subjective review approach, but the reviewers are mostly very knowledgeable. The movie reviews are far and away the best of the HT magazines; you'll find reviews of lesser known gems, entire director's oeuvres, and expanded depth special articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars TPV: Best mix of Home Theatre Equipment & Film Reviews
Our family subscribes to most of the popular home theatre publications and, though many are good, we feel The Perfect Vision (TPV, for short) is the best overall. Some publications are mostly "equipment-centered" while others are predominantly "film-centered", but TPV strikes a great balance between the two.A typical issue might feature about 10-12 in-depth home theatre product reviews (with products at varying price/performance levels), a Buyer's Guide that addresses a particular class of equipment (e.g., AV Receivers), an in-depth article highlighting a particular film maker or film (e.g., Stanley Kubrick), and about 40-45 short but very well-written film reviews.TPV also provides easy-to-understand background articles that help you keep up with new developments in home theatre technologies (and related industry politics). Finally, the TPV writing style is articulate and lively (it's just plain fun to read!). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Received Dramatics Instead
I ordered this magazine through Amazon but somehow ended up receiving the high school magazine, Dramatics, instead.Very strange.Dramatics is great if you teach junior high, high school, or work with a community theatre program with younger kids to older teens.
1-0 out of 5 stars Problems with order
I ordered this magazine and, recieved one issue correctly. After that, they stopped coming.I called them and they told me that they must have been lost in the mail and they would resend them. They resent them, and I had no other problems getting the issues. The annoying part was they would keep sending me letters saying my subscription was about to run out, when I had 6 months or more left of my subscription. These letters never said when it would expire, or how I could call them. However, when it did get close to running out they didn't contact me. It just ran out. I didn't renew my subscrption when it was up.It was frustrating.

2-0 out of 5 stars Never recieved the magazine
I ordered the magazine. It took three phone calls before someone could tell me why the magazine would not arrive 8 weeks after ordering. It was shown as having been shipped. The solution was for me to contact the post office to see what is going on. Well that may be ok for most people, but the burden of delivery falls on the seller, not the merchant. I cancelled the order, despite wanting to receive this magazine. My time to travel to the post office and "initiate a postal watch" does not seem worth the effort. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stll the best Music Magazine
This mag has everything and is vastly under rated this is the only mag that counts in music and plus they don't hate like the rolling stone magazine and every article has interest plus they also go to the Bussiness end of it.However I am mad they have cut down the number charts on here they need more.4-0 out of 5 stars For Anyone Interested In The Recording Industry
Read it myself back in the 70's and 80's, and pick it up from time to time today. First and foremost, it is a magazine dedicated to keeping up with the business side of music. It often goes into detail about what artists are up to, how much money they have made or lost, and what the current trends in music are. You know the Top 40? Well actually the Top 40 is a partial list from the Hot 100. There is also a Hot CD chart and more. The magazine covers Rock, Country, R&B, Rap, Gospel, and a host of other music styles. There's always lots of colorful photos (many of which are suitable for framing), and bunches of informative and entertaining reading. What I've always liked about Billboard is, of course, the charts. They let you know where a certain CD or song is currently ranked, as well as where it was last week. It also denotes if its went Gold or Platinum. The huge magazine is also a weekly publication. If you like keeping up with what's hot in music, Billboard is the magazine for you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best available periodical reviewing classical recordings
I would endorse everything that is said by below by J Scott Morrison."International Record Review", while obviously based on"Gramophone" magazine (it shares the general format and some of the same reviewers), has addressed most of "Gramophone"'s egregious faults.
4-0 out of 5 stars A New Competitor for 'The Gramophone'
This glossy British classical music magazine that focuses primarily on recordings was founded in 2000 by, I believe, some disgruntled former 'Gramophone' writers. The staff of writers include such well-known reviewers as Martin Anderson, Hugh Canning, Jed Distler, Mortimer H. Frank, Harris Goldsmith, Julian Haylock, Simon Heighes, Robert Layton, Donald Manildi, Andrew Porter, Charles Timbrell, Raymond S. Tuttle, John Warrack and others. As you can see, the writers primarily come from England but there are far more American reviewers than write for 'Gramophone,' giving it a bit more trans-Atlantic balance than the older magazine. It is, as they say, 'for those who know their music but who are prepared to be further enlightened, appreciate good sound-reproduction, without the need for gimmicks and who want up-to-date, authoritative comment on the vast number of new and historical classical recordings being released worldwide.' There are monthly review sections for orchestral, chamber, instrumental, choral, vocal and opera CDs as well as for DVDs and books. Issues also contain

2-0 out of 5 stars A metal version of Alternative Press
I used to love Outburn magazine. I first discovered it when I came across the mag at a local mainstream bookstore chain. The first thing I saw on the cover was VNV Nation. I bought that issue and soon after that I ordered a subscription. What I loved about Outburn at the time was that the magazine covered artists and bands that aren't covered in the mainstream music magazines, namely those in the goth, EBM, synthpop, and industrial scene. Unfortunately within the next year and a half, the magazine started covering less of those types of bands and more death metal bands and hardcore punk bands, two genres I don't give a rat's behind about. I don't know WTF happened at the magazine but they stopped covering anything goth related and started covering more music I would much rather have my ears ripped off by pliers than listen to. Just like Alternative Press, Outburn started out as a cool mag but now they have become a joke and more about following than setting trends.

3-0 out of 5 stars It used to be 5 stars
This used to be a great magazine industrial/metal/synth/goth (and free cd of your choice), but over the past year and a half it has turned into indy and Hot Topic teeny music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it once was
Of all the music orientated magazines that I subscribe, Outburn is my personal favorite. This is the only magazine that caters to my favorite music...techno, goth, and industrial music. Rolling Stone stopped being relevant 10 years ago. Spin magazine is a joke. Alternative Press is also a joke and has stopped being relevant many, many moons ago. I discovered Outburn when I saw an article on one of my personal favorite bands of all time, VNV Nation. Rolling Stone, Spin, and AP wouldn't touch VNV Nation with a ten foot pole because it isn't popular with the brainwashed masses. That was last year. Since then, I have been a loyal reader as well as a loyal subscriber to the quarterly magazine. What appeals to me the most about Outburn is that the magazine covers more than just goth and industrial music but also lesser known metal bands like Lacuna Coil and Opeth. I'm not a metal fan by a long shot but it is refreshing to read a magazine in which heavy metal bands are the [pooh] that MTV and Clear Channel, er, radio plays non-stop (i.e Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit). Outburn covers lesser known metal bands that MTV wouldn't dare play except maybe on the new incarnation of "Headbanger's Ball". I also enjoy the original questions the writers throws at the artists and bands they interview. They also don't sound patronizing or condescending one bit. And unlike Spin magazine which has now become a forum for video games and fashion as opposed to music, Outburn sticks to what it knows best which is music. Although Marilyn Manson is on the cover of the new issue of Outburn, at least I can be grateful that the editors didn't throw Good Charlotte on the cover. Another thing I love about Outburn is the free cd offer for subscribers. Nothing beats like a free cd and for less than ten dollars. One of the problems I have with Outburn is that it is a quarterly magazine, not a monthly magazine. I wish that rags like AP, Spin, and RS were quarterly magazines. I also wish that they covered less death metal and punk bands nad cover more synthpop/EBM acts like they did a few years when I first started reading the magazine (thanks to the VNV Nation article). I really don't want to see Outburn turn into something wretched like "Alternative Press" did over the years with the pseudo punk movement. Outburn is now endanger of becoming like AP but instead with death metal bands. I am lucky to even read one lousy article about an artist/band that is geared towards my taste (synthpop, EBM, industrial, goth, darkwave). I like reading the record reviews but even they are starting to look stale like the rest of the magazine. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rivet: Discover. Inquire. Repeat.
Rivet is a unique journal that combines a dazzling format with fresh commentary on music, arts, politics, and some breezy original fiction & poetry. Anyone interested in cutting edge publishing arts should buy this journal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this mag
Rivet is really just a fun magazine to read. It has something for everyone and every mood- cool snipets and facts about the world, beautiful fiction, accessible political analyses, thoughtful lifestyle pieces. I read it cover to cover as soon as the new issue comes out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rivet review
So there's a new magazine, except it's not new (existing in some form for 4 years), and it's not a magazine, at least not in the sense I'm used to. It is Rivet, and, smaller in dimensions (something like 6.5 x 8 inches) than your usual mag, the thing it most reminds me of is a poetry anthology, if a poetry anthology could consist of photos, art, articles, essays, recipes, interviews, discursive blurbs, short short fiction, in addition to its poetry. I say poetry anthology because the format often consists of relatively brief individual works employing flashes of imagery (visual and textual), covering a wide range of subjects, perspectives, and voices, and all tied together by a single theme. Rivet does this in both of the issues I've read so far, employing the unifying concepts of "union" and "green" respectively, and in each issue the editor skillfully manages to weave it all together.
