3-0 out of 5 stars Slipping .....
Reader's Digest has indeed morphed through the years.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great magazine
I've always remembered having Reader's Digest around the house, ever since I was born. It's full of articals for just about everyone, personally my favorites are the comic relief editorials and stories. If you ever get a chance to pick up a copy or subscription, then go for it.

2-0 out of 5 stars This magazine has indeed gone down hill
Try ripping out just the ads that are on both sides of the page and see how much reading material you are actually getting. Big Pharmacy advertisement is what this magazine is all about now. Also, let me just point out that I too have been harassed by this company about sending magazines I didn't order. Here's a tip for you if you do subscribe despite these reviews and try to cancel- Write RETURN TO SENDER on the magazines on a piece of white tape and put them back in your mailbox. This gets them to stop. What a shame this magazine is no longer of a high quality. I'd almost forgotten about this episode I had with them and my dissappointment in their skimpy reading material until reading these reviews. I was just about to get a subscription for somebody but no...no not now. Thanks for reminding me guys. Here's my two cents on top of that. Buyer beware. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!!!
The Young Rider is the BEST horse magazine for kids. It encourages horse lovers to love horses even more. It has great tips on riding English and Western saddle. It publishes letters that readers sent in the magazine. Young Rider also advertizes horse camps, tack, and riding clubs. Every magazine has two HUGE posters. My room is full of them. It talks about horse problems and how to cure them, horse breeds, stories, quizez, comics, and LOTS LOTS LOTS MORE! It is good for kids 5-15 and is great even if you are not a horse lover. All my freinds love this magazine! I loke this magazine! WHY CAN'T YOU!!! You will NOT be disipointed. So what are you waiting for? SUBSCRIBE NOW!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Young Rider Full of Ads
I purchased subscriptions to both "Ask" and "Muse" for my daughter (9 years old) and am thrilled at the lack of advertising in those magazines.I subscribed to "Young Rider," as my daughter is very much a horse lover.I was dismayed to find it full of advertisements. And not only that, but poor quality ads, irresponsible ads perpetuating gender stereotypes (e.g., males do not wear pink) and blatant consumerism ("From hoof to toe, wear the brand.")While I'm using the magazine as a means for teaching media literacy, we certainly will not be resubscribing. As to the content, it does seem informative, especially for a beginning rider, though the writing is not particularly compelling. And the articles are hard to find amidst all the marketing, making it visually confusing. While my daughter picked up her first issue of "Ask," sat down and did not get up until she'd read it cover to cover, she picked up "Young Rider," glanced through it, tossed it back down and has not yet returned to her first issue. And this is a child who is horse crazy -- not much of a testimonial for a horse magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars SPEND HOURS READING
The young rider is a child friendly magazine with bright photos and posters. They are realy good for even people who don't love horses! The young Rider provides stories on horse lessons, pony roundups, jumping, english, and western events! Children who don't like horses are sure to LOVE horses after subscribing for the Young Rider! It also has quizzes! I know it's good for ages 5-15! The Young Rider is always happy for you to send in letter or photos wich always have a chance of getting into the magazine. It talks about horses for sale and Zillions more! Young Rider gave me a penpall, nolege, posters, and many hours reading! There is not anything wrong with the young rider! it is a GREAT magazine! It is not just 5 stars it is 10,000 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia plus informative human interest
One reason I like to on occasion read the 'Reader's Digest' is because it and I have been both around so long. It is nice to see something I remember reading 'the human interest' stories in so many years ago. I remember how as a child I would go through their vocabulary test column.
3-0 out of 5 stars Large Print, Same Magazine
"Reader's Digest" has been my favorite general interest magazine for decades. The articles cover a wide array of topics and are either condensed from an original article in another magazine or are written in a condensed form specifically for the magazine. Each issue carries a portion of a non-fiction book written in such a way as to be an article or story and yet give you a flavor of the book itself. This version is sized similar to standard magazines with larger print for those who might be visually challenged.
3-0 out of 5 stars good content, bad company
Readers digest really has alot of great topics, i've had it for two years now, but if you plan to enjoy them, also plan on 'enjoying' countless offers for products, requests for subscriptions long before they are needed, extra mailings constantly, and quite alot of confusion in the process if you don't really read what they are asking. I recent got a 'final bill' along with an explination of how they had earlier sent me a request to 'do nothing' if i wanted to continue with my subscription. However I had no recollection of getting this request.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to grow!
My 3 year old daughter loves this magazine and so do I! It features her favorite characters from PBS, Disney, and others totally commercial free. I expect this one to grow with her as well. Some of the activities are just right and some are a bit above her and we do them together or save until she's ready. She certainly won't outgrow this magazine before her subscription runs out!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is perfect for my 2 year old
I was in the local library and saw this magazine so I checked out several issues to read to my daughter. This morning, right after breakfast, she is going through the magazine on her own!She remembered the games that we played and replaying them on her own, shewas going over the stories we read and telling me about them, and she was trying to follow the maze on her own.
5-0 out of 5 stars superb
This is not full of ads although it is full of tv characters and that in and of itself is an ad. However, it is educational with cute activities that are easily appropriate for ages 2 and up.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Magazine Diva says.......
This magazine is a lot of fun, with simple ideas and easy to follow instructions. It caters to a young family, those with children ages 3 - 11 will benefit the most. My most favorable comment is the attitude Family Fun projects, it is always fun and upbeat.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this magazine
I bought this magazine as a gift subscription for my sister in law. She raved over it so much I bought it for myself and wow. It is a great magazine. We generally read it cover to cover.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine, worth saving
I never had my own subscription to this magazine. My mother-in-law subscribed and then would send it to me when she was done. I have saved every copy. There are so many great ideas in this magazine. They had one to make a playing card holder out of coffee cans lids. It was great for my 6 and 3 year old for playing UNO, especially when you have a lot of cards to hold. My 13 year old is selling magazines for her school and FamilyFun is one of the magazines available. I am ordering it, I miss reading it since my mother-in-law's subscription ran out. (I was hoping she would send me a subscription for Christmas since she knew how much I enjoyed it.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Zoobooks
My 6 year old son loved this magazine. His eyes would light up whenever the magazine would arrive in the mail. The colorful photographs and fun facts about lots of types of animals made the magazine fun to read for both he and I.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zoobooks is the Encyclopedia of Animals
An easy to read format for the budding animal enthusiast with activities for subscribers online and inside the middle section of the magazine.
5-0 out of 5 stars A treasure to keep
I hope this magazine hasn't changed from when I got it as a child 20 years or so ago, because I dearly loved it then. It's not so much a magazine, with different articles and recurring features, as a vividly illustrated report on a different group of animals each month. (I wore out the binding on my "Alligators and Crocodiles" issue.) The beautiful drawings are both fun to look at and packed with information -- when I was taking biology courses in college I realized my old Zoobooks spreads of, say, "all the parrots of the world" had given me an intuitive grasp of comparative adaptation without my realizing I was learning anything.Be warned -- if you get this for your child, you may have to listen to all of the things she has learned about monkeys for months at a time! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
The other mothers who left comments about how the father was not included in the magazine need to relook at statistics of the "traditional" family - which are now a minority.Being a single mother, I am happy that a magazine actually targets the new demographic of the new family. The magazine is also very informative and gives great tips, and my daughter and I love to read the Sesame Street magazine together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than "Parent" magazine
Since I am a mother and my husband isn't interested in reading magazines, I don't really care that the other reviewers said this magazine is partial to moms. That doesn't affect me. I love this magazine. It's informative and interesting to read. I look forward to getting it in the mail every month.

1-0 out of 5 stars Offensive Towards Dads in General
As a career woman and mother, I am appalled by the level of disrespect that Parenting Magazine has towards dads. My husband stays home to care for our daughter and it was his idea to buy several books and subscribe to Parenting for thoughtful advice. What a tremendous disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for 11~13 year olds.
I'm now 15 and I use to read GL. I started reading it when I was about 12 and I hade no problem with it!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good For Teens
I'm 13 and I started subscribing to Girls Life when I was just 11. Just to let parents know, even though I subscribed to the magazine at eleven doesn't necessarily mean it's made for that age group. In fact, I found crude language, older fashions and relationship advice in it. Still, I never told my mother because I wanted to continue subscribing. The good part is, if you have an older daughter around 13 and up, I recommend this magazine to you. It's great with the makeup tips and life advice. It also has true life articles that I find inpsiring. If you're still hesitant and feel up to it, go to your local grociery store and check the magazine out yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good..
Girls Life is great to me, but I'm being considerate of all you parents out there. This magazine is not geared for 10-12 year olds like the magazine claims, more for young women in their teens. It's just a normal, old fashioned teen magazine like Seventeen and CosmoGirl!. Now that you know it's relatable to those types of magazines, you know what this magazine is all about. Makeup, clothes, relationships, etc. That's enough to say. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource- better than many books on the subject
I am a pediatrician with 2 ADHD children. Although I have alot of technical knowledge on the subject, I have found this magazine extremely helpful in terms of suggestions for problem-solving day-to-day issues, and keeping things in perspective (if they discuss the same problems we're having in amagazine, then the challenges my kids face and my less-than-perfect parenting are not failures of discipline and self-control- we're just part of the ADHD community!) Very straightforward, balanced, but mainstream viewpoint. Lots of practical articles about living with ADHD in all settings and behavioral/ cognitive interventions. Doesn't push medication, although it does provide information and tips on dealing with side-effects. Also light on coverage of alternative therapies. Plenty for both affected adults, teens and parents of ADHD children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall a great magazine
This has been one of the most helpful magazines re ADD/ADHD issues that I have come across. Would encourage anyone who is touched by this issue to subscribe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best & easiest overall up to date ADHD info
I was diagnosed with ADHD shortly after my 7 yr son and immediately began to scour the Web for info. There is a lot of info but you have to take the time to find it - this magazine brings all of that info together in print and online in short easy to read (particularly to those of us with ADHD) format.I want to know all the latest info on ADHD and now I can without the previous time and effort required.Because there's no "cure" for ADHD, it's a daily struggle (even with medicine) to find what works for you to help you overcome the frustrations and limitations resulting from the condition. The magazine helps remind me that I'm not alone in my struggles and that many other people have faced and are facing the exact same struggles. There's a strange comfort in kowing that. And I've learned a lot of useful tips which help me keep the negative aspects of the condition in check while allowing the positive aspects to come out. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this magazine! You will learn so much in each issue! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All Girls Should Read This!
I'm a senior in high school and I started reading New Moon when I was [...]Some reviewers have been writing that this magazine is somehow "innappropriate" for younger girls (because it talks about periods sometimes).I got my period when I was barely out of elementary school, and this magazine helped A LOT, since I was the first of my friends to get it.I can assure any parent who might be concerned that any information given in New Moon is appropriate for girls 8 and up.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good
This magazine is good because most of the articles are written by girls. When I first got this magazine from the library, I thought everything was written by adults, but then I looked at the first page (I usually read magazines backwards.) This magazine features informative articles about cool things. Sure, it doesn't have anything about fashion, celebrities, or boys in it (most of the magazines I read do), but that's what makes it original. The only things about this magazine I didn't like is that in the letters to the editor, there were some very strange things. Like there was 1 letter about a "girl" who was transgendered and there were letters about girls who wanted anti-gay things to never be published in the magazine. New moon is also VERY expensive! It is $5.50 an issue! Plus tax! So, if you want to get this magazine, I reccomend getting it from the library like I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!!!!!!!!
This magazine is really good, because it's supportive of women and girls. There are no models in this magazine, and a lot of people say it's sexist, but in my opinion, when a model is in a magazine that tell you to be yourself, isn't that kind of hypocritish? Besides, if you want to look at models or read about celebrity's you can always read the other magazines.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Find for a Parent/Teacher!
I think I have read at least one issue of almost every parenting, family, children, activity, teacher magazine there is...This one is by far the best I've read in a while!
5-0 out of 5 stars finally a parenting magazine for me!
I have always avoided parenting magazines: with their crowded covers of life-or-death information, flash-in-the-pan expert pontificating (pacifiers are dangerous! not using pacifiers is dangerous!), buzz-word-loaded headlines, and frantic exclamation points, they are as unappealing to me as the local evening news. The inside of those magazines are just as scattered and hectic as their covers and, as a nanny, the articles themselves, primarily on life as a parent like getting your spouse to help out, sex after kids, how to get your groove back/feel hip, what toys to buy your childrennext, etc, were not really my niche anyway.
4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!
The title of this magazine caught my eye on the newstand - and I'm glad I bought the first issue! As a first time, new mom there were many articles that inspired and encouraged me. If you want to learn to journey with your children as they wonder about the world around them while understanding how they develop and teaching them, give this magazine a try!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine - Great Vocabulary Builder
I got the book first and then subscribed to this magazine in March. I agree with the other reviewed - GET THE CD version. The Audio CD is great for listening without the text to help you understand the spoken language as I think thats the hardest part. This is such a great magazine for learning Spanish, building vocabulary and keeping up with the language. I highly recommend this product to all Spanish students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous language learning magazine!
I am a Spanish teacher and I use this magazine with my students. It is a fabulous magazine for all levels and all ages. It is hands down one of the best language learning supplements on the market. I recommend it to anyone looking to improve their Spanish. If you have a means to practice speaking the magazine only will benefit you. If you are not able to regularly speak or listen to the language you will certainly need the CD.
2-0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing but lots of errors, lousy delivery service
This magazine and CD combo will help you improve your Spanish reading and listening skills - with some big "buts."BUT you will find that the translated words and phrases often aren't the ones you actually need help with.BUT sometimes the translation tells you nothing (ex: in an articla about a soccer tournament, the word "quadrilateral" was translated "quadrilateral" - it referred somehow to the tournament format but who knows how?).BUT there are numerous grammatical errors in the English and surprisingly frequent typos in the Spanish, which even I can spot.BUT each issue is rather short.BUT I've only been able to receive one issue on time - the first one - every one since I've had to email and report the issue not arrived and they have had to send a replacement from the office.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but...
This magazine is and will be invaluable to me and my family for years to come. But, it does lack important and specific information regarding international adoption, which is how we became a family, via China. It is very slanted to domestic adoption.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Magazine
Adoptive Families is a must have magazine for families created through adoption. I am currently waiting to travel to China to get my daughter, but I have already found this magazine to be invaluable. The great things is that all kinds of adoption are discussed, domestic, open, international. It is reassuring to know that there are so many other families that were created through adoption. You know you are not alone in what you are going through too. The advertising is great too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
This magazine is a great one. My son (age 7) looks for it in the mailbox and when it arrives he reads it cover to cover. He particularly likes the section about scouts saving their leaders or scouts helping scouts. It is an interesting book. It has badges you can earn at times and hints and helps and advice for a variety of scouting type activities and events.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine!
I was surprised at the low reveiws for this magazine and had to write to say that my three boys (ages 10 to 14) fight over who is going to read it first when an issue arrives. We've not subscribed to any other magazine that my boys are as enthusiastic about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Boy Scout magazine is a good magazine for ALL boys
When my son entered the boy scouts (tigers, wolves or whatever they are) this magazine began to appear at our home.To be honest I didn't expect much from it.I was wrong.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but they weren't kidding about the 6-10 weeks delay
If you're ordering this, you should know what you're getting, because I assume you've read the magazine before.

3-0 out of 5 stars great recipes
Family Circle has great recipes compared to other magazines.Right now, I have subscriptions to Southern Living and Everyday Food.I also frequently purchase Real Simple, and I have to say that compared to these other publications, Family Circle is kitchen-proof.Several recipes from this magazine I have added to my repetoire, one of which is a cake for which I get frequent requests from my husband.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have resource
As an art teacher who has taught at all level from elementary to high school, this is a very valuable resource. I have been a subscriber for 7 years and still have every issue. Whenever I am looking for new ideas for my classes, I turn back to my past issues and always find a great project. One of the best for our field.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you work outside your home AND you are a mother-READ THIS MAGAZINE!
This magazine is for EVERY mother who works outside her home. It will empower you to be the best that you can be as a mom AND in your career, whatever that may be. I stayed home full time for 8 years with my children before returning to work. And when I did return, it wasn't to some fancy corporate career (it wasn't even full time at first). Yet, this magazine helped me to understand three things: first, when you have to go to work, here's how to juggle it all; second, don't feel guilty if you really love working AND being a mom, you're not alone; and third, you can most certainly be a GREAT mom AND work outside your home. Each and every issue motivates me to keep going and to be fantastic at it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Aimed at Corporate America mother's and not other types ofworking mother's
I am a working mother in the human resources field and I found this magazine not to my liking because it's focus appeared to be well to do families and women in high ranking positions. What about the other working women?Librarians, nurses, sales associates, etc?
