Cicada
Cicada is the best literature magazine around. It's stylish, refreshing, and just all around great. Includes beautiful poems, uplifting stories, and wonderful non-fiction. It's written partially by readers themselves, who send in their works to get published. This is my all-time favorite magazine, and probably always will be. Whenever I get a Cicada in the mail, I drop everything and read it cover-to-cover right where I am. It's so artsy, creative, and beautiful. The perfect gift for a writer/poet teen-Cicada will inspire, breathe life into, and carry him or her far, far away.

A Great Mix
I've been getting this magazine since freshman year, and I'm only now, as a senior, really beginning to appreciate the mix of stories in every issue. We just finished our short story unit in English class, and I'm now rereading my favorites from the past few years. This magazine is sold as 14+, but some of the stories offer pathways much deeper into the literary world-what comes to mind is James Baldwin's Sonny's Blues paired with Langton Hughes' poem Harlem. I'm now doing a research project on Baldwin, but Sonny's Blues remains one of my favorites of all of his work I've read so far. Cicada is perfect for those years in between children's books and college reading when some teenagers lose interest in reading for pleasure due to required reading for school.

Good for kids to whom Cricket is gotten old hat

Great Product for improving your Spanish
I have been a subscriber for four months and I love this magazine. I initially subscribed without the Audio CD but I added the Audio Cd after receiving my first issue.There are about 12 articles each month and I have found this is the perfect length for me.I am able to get through the magazine in a month and it goes along perfectly with the Spanish conversation class I am taking at the community college. I would say my level is 2nd year Spanish and I think this magazine could continue along with me for another two years. They give a suggested use part in the front and I highly recommend following it.If you stick to it you will be surprised at how much you are learning!And you get some cool culture/travel facts by reading the articles that I can't imagine you'd find anywhere else!Buena Suerte!
Good for learning
Increasingly you need to have two or more languages. If your kids are learning spanish, this is helpful.

Very Good for those who've studied some Spanish
If you would like to keep your reading and listening skills up but live in a situation where you do not have frequent chances to do so in real life, this Magazine should be very helpful for you. It covers a wide range of subject materials of all Latin countries, including Spain; the vocabulary improvement with these articles is significant. One word of Caution: I do not think that this magazine is for a brand-new person to Spanish. At least one year of formal Spanish in high school or college would be advisable. I had two years of high school Spanish and two years of University level Spanish and lived the first 30 years of my life in Texas; and yet, I still find this magazine challenging while at the same time very helpful. It also makes a great and unique gift. BE SURE TO BUY THE AUDIO CD ALONG WITH THE PRINTED MAGAZINE; that is more expensive but well worth it!

Teacher of 3 year olds at a Church Daycare
We're doing a theme this week on Nursery Rhythms & I picked up an old Mailbox dated 2000.I found Nursery Rhythms.I jumped at the chance 2 start getting ideas.I found a lamb I can copy 2 do crayon shavings on, an idea on There was an Old Woman who lived in a Shoe & an idea 4 crafts on Humpty Dumpty.There r recipes that u can adapt 4 your age appropriate group.I like the pages u can tear out.I need more ideas 4 my centers & would like a suggestion on any MAAILBOX thatcould help.My centers are Lego Land, Crafts, Library & Puzzle, Opening Center, Kitchen Center with a salon.I'd like 2 c some Bible stories relating 2 things on the outside cover of the issue.Being a preschool teacher at a Church daycare would really b of great assistance.I was wondering if this could start a.s.a.p.I would like 2 receive a free issue of PRESCHOOL.Thank u so much 4 taking your time 2 give ideas 4 teachers that want 2 do their best.With our society as rushed as it is it's nice 2 know that MAILBOX can assist in making teacher's lesson plans a whole lot less time consuming.I've picked up a lot of academic ideas that the students need 2 learn before they reach Kindergarten.Thank u again.

Great for teachers!!!
I am a new teacher, and this magazine has all kinds of fun craft projects and ideas to use in your classroom, as well as up to date articles about what is going on in education right now. I woulld definitely recommend this magazine to anyone not only who is a teacher, but who has children. Most of the crafts and articles pertain to families as well as teachers.

Great magazine!
I have found that "Instructor Magazine" helps me to stay on top of what is new in education.It has everything from "Web-quests" to in-service ideas.They have ideas for every subject, profile classrooms, authors, they even include a poster with corresponding lessons that go along with it.I love it!

Great for high school levels too!

Eye-opening insights into gifted education.

Just what you are looking for
This newspaper has everything that a busy Catholic mom is looking for.It gives news blips from around the world, great general interest articles, sections on the culture of life, movie reviews, parenting and marriage advice and calendars for events in your region.It has everything that would normally take three newspapers worth of reading to find.Mine comes every Saturday morning, and is in the Church hall being recycled to other Catholics by Sunday morning.It is run by the LCs (which I think are an awesome order) but even what they report about themselves is unbiased and very factual in every way!

The Rest of the Story
John Paul II was a name that made news, even to the point of Time-Life printing a special book about him (which was quite good). He was so popular that you'd think he was a US president so often did the news misquote him. The news, assuming that the millions of Catholics don't listen to the pope anyway, instead found that they don't give a fig what the news says about him. What they do care about is what the pope actually says (if only to have the chance to disagree), and are naturally dismayed when the paper is filled with reams of commentary on speeches they don't actually reprint.
It's the Regnum Christi/Legion of Christ paper
Although this info is not made obvious, this newspaper is published by RC/Legion of Christ, an organizaton which is controversial among Catholics for various reasons. If you're looking for a general news Catholic publication, I suggest you keep looking. ... Read more
