5-0 out of 5 stars Nice magazine for lovers of Italian food and culture
A passionate home cook that has been honing her cooking skills for the last 25 years, concentrating on Italian cooking for the last 10 years, writes this review. My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry".I love cooking and own more than 500 cookbooks.I am very interested in both Italian food and culture.I thoroughly enjoy this magazine, but it is probably not for everyone. The target audience for this magazine is those that love Italy and Italian cooking. This is a not a quick cook magazine. As with much of Italian cooking the recipes can be time as time consuming, as they are delicious. However, if you have time to prepare the recipes this is a great magazine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Like an armchair tour of Italy's best culinary offerings
Since returning from a Tuscan holiday in summer of 2001, I could not get enough "authentic" Italian food to satisfy my now-wiser palate.Enter La Cucina Italiana (and its sister publication, Italian Cooking and Living) to assist me in recreating so many foods I experienced over there.I have never found an issue wanting in content and diversity, and of late the format has been much improved with rich photography and more adventurous dishes, and in a sturdier wrapper for keeping.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Authentic Italian Magazine in the US
After returning from Italy, I found I had fallen in love with the country and its cuisine.I started subscribing to La Cucina Italiana to feed my habit. The magazine is full of wonderful recipes, lifestyle and travel tips that make you feel as though you are there--or wish you were. Each issue features appetizer, first, second and dessert course recipes, as well as a special "Rapido e Simplice" section--fast & easy recipes for casual or everyday meals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite (favourite) cooking magazine
We bought several issues of the magazine while living in the UK for a few years, and kept them with us when we moved back to the States. They're still our primary source for recipes, and we have yet to find a better magazine. The recipes focus on the freshest garden ingredients of the season (naturally, there are a lot of root vegetable recipes in the winter -- this is Britain, after all).We can generally manage to find all the ingredients in the States, except that paneer (Indian cheese) has been a challenge.Remember, rocket = arugula, courgettes = zucchini, aubergines = eggplant, and coriander = cilantro.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cooking Magazine
I love this magazine. I bought my first issue in Kenyatta airport when my flight got delayed and I was desperate for reading material. My best purchase in Kenya! When my husband went to London I had him pick up the next issue.Great healthy, practical recipes and beautiful pictures, plus helpful information. It's fun to read some of the terms the British use for cooking. I lament that there are no discounted US subscription rates.Maybe if enough of us buy it in the US, they will find they have a market with us!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Food Magazine(except maybe for its sister Olive)
I have been reading BBC Good Food off and on for almost four years. It has consistently been better than any other food magazine period. (although its new sister from the BBC called Olive may give it a run for its money). Olive seems to have taken over a few of the features they used to run in this magazine and even without them, this is still the best there is. [...] ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Affordable & adequate --- better as an introductory source than anything else
As the other reviewers have observed, this is definitely not a magazine for the serious collector, if for no other reason than the quantity of wines being reviewed is relatively small, and without good comparison to other vintages among other things. The articles are nice enough, but without much depth. Most aspects of this magazine would tend appeal more to the neophyte, which is fair enough. It helps that it is relatively inexpensive.
3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for the price, but could use some improvements
Wine Enthusiast is an average, decently priced, magazine about, of all things, wine. Less of a lifestyle magazine than Wine Spectator, and less serious in tone than Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast has its merit in that it focuses solidly on wine without the pretentious rambling that sometimes diminishes its competitors. Most of its articles are mostly accurate, if in a rudimentary way. Wine Enthusiast does not seem to rate as many wines as its competitors, which can be a problem for vertical comparisons of certain wines, including some well-known examples from Bordeaux and Burgundy. As such, I would probably not recommend Wine Enthusiast to the serious collector. Nonetheless, for its price, Wine Enthusiast offers value and adequate ratings and reviews of many wines, although I have some questions as to how they choose which wines to rate when they leave out many Sauternes in favor of white zinfandels.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value but not top-level
Wine Enthusiast magazine is a second-class (but not third-class) cousin to Wine Spectator magazine. Based on my reading experience with the magazine over the last year, it offers fewer articles and fewer tasting reviews. The quality of the editorial/opinions is close to comparable, though. This magazine can be a reasonable choice to read and, since it does cost just a bit less than Wine Spectator, it can offer reasonable value. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Australian version is much better than the American version
I have purchased 15 versions of the Australian magazine, and 2 of the new American version. Very impressed by the Australian one and very disappointed by the new American one. If you have the money for the Australian version it is worth every penny. A great magazine that is fresh and different and makes you almost feel like you live in Australia. It is very fun to get a Christmas issue where they are celebrating at the beach, being in the southern hemisphere. There are plenty of food magazines in the US. Splurge on the Australian one, it is wonderful ! ! !

5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious
Great Magazine! First Magazine that I have seen where it's only about the FOOD! They have a great list of ingredients and their conversions with measurements on last page for readers outside of Australia. It is very helpful for me since I am in the U.S. I agree, I wish it was not so expensive, but it is really a great alternative for other foodies out there, to see what else is going on in the world of cooking other than in America.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great! Pity it's so expensive here
This is one of the best food magazines anywhere, and comes from Australia. Some insight into the modern australian food and lifestyle, as well as great photos. I have made lots of things from it that always work out well and are often quite innovative without being overly tricky. Has celebrity chef's recipes (Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Jull Duplex) as well as unknowns. I get my mother to send me old issues from Australia. I don't know why it's so expensive here, but if you are looking for a gift for a homesick Australian who is into food: this is it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely magazine
This magazine is lovely.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good... A little too comercial
I've always thought of Sunset magazine as the type of magazine you'd find in the back of an airplane seat. The kind of magazine with flashy pictures, expensive wines and places you can never afford to go to. This is a good magazine, but I find level of advertising annoying. Also, the reviews of hotels don't strike me as that reliable. Last month, based on a review in this magazine about an inn, we stayed the night at this location and found the service was awful, the 'rooms with fireplaces' not functional and the room smelled bad. These facts were conveniently left out of the review which touted the friendly staff and the great rooms. So I guess, ultimately, I'd take reviews and articles in the magazine with a grain of salt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Ideas
I enjoy looking at and reading the articles in "Sunset".We plan to retire in Montana and I save articles that have information on houses, yards, etc. Someday, we hope to use some of this information. Great, healthy recipes also included in the magazine. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really health conscious
As someone who is very interested in healthy eating and living, I was actually appalled by this magazine. It is ostensibly health conscious, but upon closer examination it ignores important health information. For example, in one issue, it had a whole article about diabetes and how, thanks to the miracles of science, diabetics can now eat sugary foods. It proceeded to give a table of artificial sweeteners explaining when to use which.A truly health conscious person would know that aspartame is suspected of causing cancer, and that the only real way to avoid diabetes is to only include a reaonable and moderate amount of sugar in your diet.I was disappointed with the magazine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just canceled my 3rd 2-year subcription
I used to love Light & Tasty, then they decided to change the look and format, even though reader surveys said keep it the same. The new look is hard to read, and lacks the down-home feel that makes the magazines popular. There are less pictures of the finished dishes, and the pictures they do show are smaller. They added full page ads for thier country store products, which goes against the no ad promise.I have subscribed for years, but this new look is horrible.Get it at the store to see if you like it first.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must have!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent customer service
After reading some of the other recent reviews regarding subscription problems, I was starting to doubt my decision to subscribe to this magazine.I started sleuthing around and found contact information for the publisher, Marketing Manager, etc on the website for Pastry Art and Design's sister publication, Chocolatier, and contacted them via phone.I spoke with the Marketing Manager, who was very helpful and concerned about making sure I was satisfied. He contacted the fulfullment group regarding my order, verified that I would be receiving the July/August issue when it was released (end of July), and in addition sent me some back issues, as well as the premier issue of a new publication, via first class mail.I spoke to him on a Thursday and had the back issues on Monday. In addition to this, he spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me, chatting about the pastry industry, culinary schools, etc.In all, I am a satisfied customer and am thoroughly enjoying the magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
If you're interested in the pastry business, or you just love reading about chefs, trends, and new products, this magazine is perfect for you. I have always looked for more behind-the-scenes info on the food industry and one of the only places I have found it is in this magazine. I can see why both professionals and novices enjoy it. Beautiful pictures, exciting recipes, well-written, an all around great buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars good magazine but...
I first came across the Pastry Art and Design website when I was looking up some information for one of my pastry arts classes. I thought that this magazine would give me some ideas to use in class plus help me at work, so I paid for a subscription on-line back in Decemberof 2005.After about 2 months I did not receive a magazine. The charge wasn't even charged to my card, even though I got a confirmation e-mail. I tried to go onto to the website and I could not go on the site unless I subscribed it as my home page! (NOT Happening).I then tried to contact Haymarket by e-mail and Pastry Art and Design by e-mail and still NOTHING!I went and bought a issue from the bookstore and I tried contacting the publisher from the e-mail in the issue and still nothing.I sent a subscription card from the issue I bought and I have 1 issue that was sent to me.I wish that I saw the earlier reviews of this and I would have stuck to butying the magazine in the store. It is a good trade magazine but not worth the hassle. If there is a better pastry magazine with the same concept and is as infromative, I would love to get that instead bt mail.Oh yeah! I still have not received another issue yet! ... Read more

I love it and read it cover to cover every month. I am a avid home brewer and Liek the information they provide. It caters to the little guy doing extract batches on the stove top to people like me who do all grain in converted Keg systems.4-0 out of 5 stars Cheers!!
An excellent 'every-man' (or woman) mag about the fine art of homebrewing.I've been a homebrewer for over 20 years and have seen a lot of stuff come and go, yet I still get good ideas out of each issue (and not just recipes, although the Szamatulski's contributions are usually good).Typically, in the area of gadgets.Read more

This is a fantastic vegan magazine with lots of articles on the vegan lifestyle, animal protection, vegan book reviews, movie reviews and recipes. It's also a good source for lots of vegan products.I often read a review of a new food product and end up at Whole Foods buying it.This is a substantial magazine, about 100 pages or more lately. It's been around since the year 2000.I read it cover-to-cover as soon as it arrives and have ordered back issues from their website. It's one of those magazines I save and can't bear to throw or give away.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all about the FOOD!
I love food, and I love this magazine because its editors love food, and they seemtoreally want everyone to enjoy great food.I have picked up a few issues ( now recently subscribed!) and am always blown away by the photography and the fact that when I try a recipe...it looks just as good and tastes great! Recipes are pretty simple, and to keep things interesting, a really cool new fruit or vegetable is introducedto experiment with.Have to go make something to eat...........

5-0 out of 5 stars What a delight
Ive been receiving Intermezzo almost since it started and it has really given me a love for food. Simply looking throught the colorful and elegant pages I get hungry. Moreover, it has wonderful recepies and lovely articles, they are always quite interesting. It's one of those magazines thats just a pleasure to look at and to read. It really has some great ideas. Id recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best magazine AND customer service, bar none
Intermezzo is beyond excellent, a breath of fresh ar in a tired food-mag marketplace, and it gets better very single issue. Not only is is the most interesting and beautifully photographed food magazine (the recipes are EXCELLENT, fresh and unpretentious), but I have found customer service to be nothing short of superb. I have had to email customer service three times to adjust/append my orders and have received, in every single case, a pleasant and helpful response within 24 hours. Try getting that from any of the other mags! My issues have arrived without incident. I do wish that they would publish more often, but only because the magazine is so good I want more of it.
