5-0 out of 5 stars Half of My Family is from the South
I have or had aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents strewn all throughout the South. My dad is from Texas. For a New Englander like me that has always been quite a dichotomy. I have traveled and spent time in all 13 Southern states. Ever since grade school we were taught there were 13 Southern states based on those states that seceded from the Union during the Civil War. I am not sure what exactly constitutes Southern State theses days!
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, I'm partial...I'm from the SOUTH!
So, you want to know where to stay, what to see, what to eat, how to get there, when to come, and who's who in the old South??? Look no further than the pages of "Southern Living," a superb look at everything new and old about the region.
1-0 out of 5 stars Southern Living No Longer "Southern"
As a member of a Southern family who treasured this magazine, it is with a heavy heart and a sense of loss that I have decided not to renew my subscription this year.Yes, I've always given the brides in our family a subscription as a gift, and waited eagerly for my issue to come in the mail. But those days are past.Southern Living Magazine has been offered to all states for some time now, and I believe this has caused the editors to try to appeal to a broader readership. This, in turn, has changed the recipe section into something one can find in any other magazine.Honestly, I do love all sorts of different cuisines, but in a magazine called "Southern Living", I expect to find wonderful and traditional Southern recipes! This magazine needs to go back to it's roots. From now on, I'll be giving new brides a subscription to Southern Lady Magazine, and that's what I'll be reading myself!I will miss the Christmas book, though. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely magazine
This magazine is lovely.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good... A little too comercial
I've always thought of Sunset magazine as the type of magazine you'd find in the back of an airplane seat. The kind of magazine with flashy pictures, expensive wines and places you can never afford to go to. This is a good magazine, but I find level of advertising annoying. Also, the reviews of hotels don't strike me as that reliable. Last month, based on a review in this magazine about an inn, we stayed the night at this location and found the service was awful, the 'rooms with fireplaces' not functional and the room smelled bad. These facts were conveniently left out of the review which touted the friendly staff and the great rooms. So I guess, ultimately, I'd take reviews and articles in the magazine with a grain of salt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Ideas
I enjoy looking at and reading the articles in "Sunset".We plan to retire in Montana and I save articles that have information on houses, yards, etc. Someday, we hope to use some of this information. Great, healthy recipes also included in the magazine. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A magazine of ads
If you are into high brow interior design then this is for you.But my problem is not so much with the magazine as it is about their customer service at Veranda and the subscription department's ability to read. They are by far the worst!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Magazine, highly recommended!!!!!!
A woman that is passionate about beautiful things writes this review.I am an avid do-it-yourselfer and love to do things around the house. This magazine has been one of my favorites for years.I look forward to each new issue and the decorating ideas that it will provide.
5-0 out of 5 stars I can dream can't I?
This magazine is so packed full of goodies that you may need something with wheels to carry it out. The paper alone is worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly pleased
I have enjoyed Fine Gardening for a year so gave it to myself for Christmas. It's helpful to re-read past magazines as something new pops out to me each time. Great to keep for reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars from a Landscape Designer
I do landscape design and landscape maintenance professionally, and this is the only magazine I'd recommend to clients. As another reviewer noted, The American Gardener is also a fine publication if you are very serious about plants, but for most readers, Fine Gardening best walks the line between accessability and having great information.
4-0 out of 5 stars My second favorite gardening magazine.....
I have subscribed to FINE GARDENING for several years, and the only real problem I've encountered is where to house back issues. I have also subscribed to a number of other "gardening" magazines, most of them dropped after the initial subscription period. The exceptions have been THE AMERICAN GARDENER (my favorite gardening magazine) and FINE GARDENING.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful designs and ideas
As an interior design student, I find this magazine a wonderful source of inspiration, variety, and creativity. This magazine is more about art and design than advice on "do it yourself" decorating or cheap furniture finds, so:
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge the contents by its title
Great for filling the doctors office magazine selection - if it's free - but not worth your money to own. I bought if for gardening inspiration and there is really nothing about gardens or gardening in here. Oh, once in a while they remember to put a garden shot in the magazine, but not consistently. The home section isn't that inspirational either. Go for it if it's free, but if it's not, don't buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A stand-out in the field!
House and Garden is a no-holds barred celebration of great *design*, primarily of interiors -- and to a lesser extent "gardens" and exteriors --but also of product and architecture, with a smattering of coverage dedicated to artistans, travel, wine, and music.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Magazine Diva Says........
This mag needs a new editor. I haven't seen anything interesting in Better Homes for six months. Maybe they are spread too thin with their website and contests.

1-0 out of 5 stars Better Ads & More Ads
This magazine is a waste of money and bores me.Nothing here to see but ads.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this magazine but...
most of the beautiful gardens I see are in Washington or Oregon or back east somewhere.Having lived in Washington, I do enjoy seeing some of the plants that I am missing here in Colorado, but it would be nice to see a more varied selction of gardens becasue we all can't live in the Pacific Northwest.I have a subscription to Sunset so I guess that will have to suffice, but I do wish BH&G would take that into consideration.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT order this magazine
Don't waste your money! The designs in this magazine are absolutely hideous! I've received 2 issues so far and can't believe they even call this floral design!!

4-0 out of 5 stars trend setting
I use this magazine to get ideas on trends in floral materials and designs. While the specifics may not be applicable in every market or customer, the over-all themes do come eventually to the conservative Midwest. An example of high-end design and innovative materials. Some are very simple, others very complex. Will definitely generate creative ideas if you are interested in something different.

5-0 out of 5 stars An eye opener
I was shown this mzagazine by a friend but she wouldn't let me borrow it and I can't blame her because it's great.I now subscribe and wanted to complete my back issues but fusion flowers is so much in demand that all the back issues have sold out.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars gloriously beautiful magazine
I've been a subscriber for a few years, and always eagerly devour the issue from cover to cover. It sends me back to England every other month, and for the hour or two that it takes me to read it, I couldn't be happier.Sometimes I find wonderful gardening information that applies to my small, urban CA garden, but the beautifully written articles and glorious color photographs would keep me enthralled anyway.Don't be put off by the review posted that said there was no way to reach anyone about a missing subscription.First, given that it is only published every other month, and the delay in getting things back and forth over the Atlantic, it isn't too surprising that there could be a few month delay in beginning a new subscription. But there IS a phone number (...) and email address (...) for their US distributor, The British Connection, which also handles their sister publication, The English Home.I started with the gardening magazine and added the home one about a year later, and I love it just as much.I feel like I've given myself a very special treat whenever one arrives in the mail box, and I've never had a problem with either subscription.Give it a try, they are very special, unique publications! What a lovely gift!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jasmine, peacocks, bluebells
This bimonthly magazine is a wish book for those of us who don't have two full-time gardeners on staff, or a few acres of woods to devote to bluebells, or the ruins of an ancient abbey to train roses against. My Regency ancestors were breaking their backs on hardscrabble New England farms, rather than building follies or planting mazes, or having their grounds landscaped by Capability Brown.
1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe a good magazine - if you can get it
I subscribed in Sept 04 and still have not received any single issue (as of Jan 05). There is no phone number or email address, so the only way to contact them is by mail, only they don't respond. They took my money, and I never heard from them again.

2-0 out of 5 stars AMEN TO "A SHADOWOF ITS FORMER SELF"
i too have stacks of organic gardening and farming. i love to go back and visit Robert Rodale.Too bad it has become a political bullypulpit. I would not subscribe again with out a major change.

2-0 out of 5 stars A shadow of its former self
I have read and subscribed to Organic Gardening (and Farming)since mid-70's but dropped my subscription in and around 2000. I pick up an issue now and then in newstands, just to "check in" and hope for a return to the "good ole days". The publication used to be superior (find old issues in a library to see the what I mean - especially the 70's) and gave tons of information to all levels of gardeners (some issues used to have 100's of pages, almost all text - though in a smaller format). I still have old copies and to this day find inspiration in those articles. Now its just LARGE glossy pictures, sparse writing, reduced page counts, basic gardening info/lists and more than a dose of Maria Rodale's opinion/politics. I guess their surveys/advertisers tell them this is what "organic" gardeners want...but I would bet Robert Rodale (who edited the mag back in 70's and early 80's) would be upset to see how his daughter has screwed up the magazine. Save your subscription and read the old ones at a library. Yeah...the varieties will be out of date (that's what a seed catalog is good for and/or seedsavers.org) but the info is pure "organic gardening".

3-0 out of 5 stars Organic but thin
Still the leader for US Organic resources, techniques, and current resources, _Organic Gardening_ has been deeply downsized since its inception as _Organic Gardening and Farming_ decades ago.It now contains beautiful pictures, but not much in-depth information in each issue besides A) a plant that can't grow in your zone, B) birds that you'll never see, C) yet another article about tomatoes and D) occasionally good information to help you grow a healthier garden (celery growing tips, Clopyralid in municipal compost heaps). 5-0 out of 5 stars Best gardening mazazine out there
The BBC Gardeners World magazine is the best gardening magazine that I have ever seen.I receive at least 10 other gardening magazines (most are monthly) and I am most impressed with the Gardeners World. There are many beautiful photos and great articles by a number of well-respected gardeners. They touch on a lot of different areas of gardening, i.e. composting, soil quality, new plant selections, before and after pictures of gardens, make it yourself garden projects, and much more.It is more pricey than other magazines (mostly related to the air shipment) but it is a definite treat for yourself or a very special gift for someone who wouldn't spend the money on themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Reccomend
If you enjoy gardening, then this is the magazine for you.Gardner's World is a tome of gardening how-to. It includes reviews of plants, projects, gardening-related news blips and so much more. While the magazine if based out of the UK, and I live in California, I still find it useful and inspiring. This and Organic Gardening are the only gardening magazines that I have found to avail any useful information whatsoever. If buy no other gardening literature & keep the magazines you order you still will have built a praiseworthy gardening library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Garden Design Magazine published in English
As a professional landscape architect and plant lover, I am always on the lookout for inspiring, up to date, well written and photographed stories about design and plants.A lot to ask for, I know, but Gardens Illustrated is the best periodical that does all this that I've found to date.Consistently beautiful photographs and thorough descriptions of those photographs, interesting articles about current designers and their landscape designs, and correctly labelled latin & common names for the plants all make this a "keep every issue" kind of magazine!5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
