Half of My Family is from the South
I have or had aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents strewn all throughout the South. My dad is from Texas. For a New Englander like me that has always been quite a dichotomy. I have traveled and spent time in all 13 Southern states. Ever since grade school we were taught there were 13 Southern states based on those states that seceded from the Union during the Civil War. I am not sure what exactly constitutes Southern State theses days!
Yes, I'm partial...I'm from the SOUTH!

Southern Living No Longer "Southern"
As a member of a Southern family who treasured this magazine, it is with a heavy heart and a sense of loss that I have decided not to renew my subscription this year.Yes, I've always given the brides in our family a subscription as a gift, and waited eagerly for my issue to come in the mail.But those days are past.Southern Living Magazine has been offered to all states for some time now, and I believe this has caused the editors to try to appeal to a broader readership.This, in turn, has changed the recipe section into something one can find in any other magazine.Honestly, I do love all sorts of different cuisines, but in a magazine called "Southern Living", I expect to find wonderful and traditional Southern recipes!This magazine needs to go back to it's roots.From now on, I'll be giving new brides a subscription to Southern Lady Magazine, and that's what I'll be reading myself!I will miss the Christmas book, though. ... A lovely magazine
This magazine is lovely.
Good... A little too comercial
I've always thought of Sunset magazine as the type of magazine you'd find in the back of an airplane seat.The kind of magazine with flashy pictures, expensive wines and places you can never afford to go to. This is a good magazine, but I find level of advertising annoying. Also, the reviews of hotels don't strike me as that reliable. Last month, based on a review in this magazine about an inn, we stayed the night at this location and found the service was awful, the 'rooms with fireplaces' not functional and the room smelled bad. These facts were conveniently left out of the review which touted the friendly staff and the great rooms. So I guess, ultimately, I'd take reviews and articles in the magazine with a grain of salt.
Dream Ideas
I enjoy looking at and reading the articles in "Sunset".We plan to retire in Montana and I save articles that have information on houses, yards, etc. Someday, we hope to use some of this information. Great, healthy recipes also included in the magazine. ... Read more

Worth the money and the wait
Cote Sud is a compilation of the loveliest magazine pages you'll ever see.It covers southern French houses, gardens, hotels, restaurants and decorating, as well as beautiful travel articles of places outside France.It is so beautifully photographed that I find myself going back over and over the issues for continuing inspiration.Because it is shipped from France it takes awhile to arrive but it is always delightful and well worth the wait.

Plenty of European, Not Much Southern
Anyone who thinks this is representative of "Southern", isdefinitely not Southern. I found the flavor of the magazine to be strictly European. The two biggest points of contention were the number of advertisements and the coverage of overblown, ostentatious European decor. There are no real Southern influences on any of the interior pictorials shown. You can find a number of beautiful, understated Southern homes that have stayed true to their original decor- they are out there- just not in this particular magazine.

comfort and elegance
This is a lovely magazine, with lots of articles on Southern style and luxurious living. Every issue has "Accents", showing what is new and trendy and where to buy it; "Calendar", for events and exhibitions worth seeing, and "Educated Eye", with advice on what to look for to evaluate antique furniture, etc. if you are a serious collector. the best decorating magazine!
I subscribe to all of the home and garden magazines and Southern Accents is the best, bar none.The houses featured are absolutely dreamy--the photography is gorgeous--and while the magazine doesn't offer how-to decorating ideas, there is so much inspiration.I find it to be intelligently written...which is rare in a decorating magazine. The articles on antiques are particularly informative.This magazine will appeal to anyone who is interested in beautiful, classic design--whether or not you live in the South! ... Read more

Too heavy to hold!
This used to be a great (and medium-sized) magazine with at least one great article in every issue. Last year the format was changed & the darned thing is so big I can't read it in bed. At last look they still had at least one interesting article, but it is surrounded by page after page of mind-numbing glossy ads, with more pages of pictures of the SF social set.
Not crazy about the new format....
A few months ago this magazine was transformed into one of those huge glossy coffee table type shi-shi magazines.75% of the magazine consists of advertisements for hi-priced goods now.It's not worth subscribing to

Excellent, informative articles for Bay Area residents
I received San Francisco magazine as a gift a few years ago and at first assumed that it would simply be a way to keep up with restaurant reviews and the like for the city (I live about 35 miles east in the suburbs).After reading a few issues, though, it became clear that a number of the articles are very well written and provide great information and entertainment for residents of San Francisco and beyond.I am thinking of recent articles about Willie Brown (by Joan Walsh), Jim Jones Jr. (by Pamela Feinsilber), and the June 2003 "Green Issue."Some of the articles/features are less relevant to me, but there is always something interesting to read each time a new issue appears in my mailbox.I wish that there was more coverage of restaurants and cultural events in Contra Costa County (where I live), but this is San Francisco magazine after all! ... Luxurious Living in the Rainy City
Actually, living in Seattle is not always a drizzly experience. Don't tell anyone, but the summers in Seattle are absolutely amazing. Winter isn't too bad either because the climate is fairly mild. I lived there for many years and one of the things I noticed is the "homes." There are unique and beautiful homes all over Seattle that definitely appeal to the aesthetically aware. I have never lived in any area where there were so many unique and artistic designs. Great local magazine

Thoughtful articles and interesting reading
Each time I travel over the US border I always pick up a copy of CL. To my way of thinking CL picks up more common sense and interestingarticles than Good Housekeeping or Womans Day here in the States. Often, the writing has that dry Canadian humorous edge to it that you don't always get in US publications.

Good for younger families and the recipes are delish
I've subscribed to Canadian Living for almost 20 years after reading a copy while visiting Canada. The magazine offers plenty of parenting tips (great for young families) and lots of delicious recipes. ... Read more
