5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly pleased
I have enjoyed Fine Gardening for a year so gave it to myself for Christmas. It's helpful to re-read past magazines as something new pops out to me each time. Great to keep for reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars from a Landscape Designer
I do landscape design and landscape maintenance professionally, and this is the only magazine I'd recommend to clients. As another reviewer noted, The American Gardener is also a fine publication if you are very serious about plants, but for most readers, Fine Gardening best walks the line between accessability and having great information.
4-0 out of 5 stars My second favorite gardening magazine.....
I have subscribed to FINE GARDENING for several years, and the only real problem I've encountered is where to house back issues. I have also subscribed to a number of other "gardening" magazines, most of them dropped after the initial subscription period. The exceptions have been THE AMERICAN GARDENER (my favorite gardening magazine) and FINE GARDENING.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
This magazine has something for woodworkers at every level, from raw beginner to professional. The mix of articles includes side by side product comparisons, how-to pieces at different levels, tool sharpening hints, finishing materials and techniques, and photo galleries of magnificent work.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great for starting out, but now i'm bored
After 6 years I'm finally letting my subscription end. Its a great magazine for starting out, but after a while the articles begin seeming to be very alike. New ideas are now a rarity in Fine Woodworking, and that was the original reason that I subscribed. There are very few technique articles and too many tool reviews. And I've become skeptical of those review articles--primarily because many, but not all, are not rigorous scientific tests and are subject to the author's preferences, yet those articles are not presented that way.Furthermore, I believe that the magazine in general has dropped considerably in quality and definitely in content over the past few years. I'd have given it 5 stars in the begining, but now its just average.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only subscription that lasted
I jumped into woodworking four years ago and have had 5 woodworking magazine subscriptions over the four years. I started with Fine Woodworking and now it's all that's left. Nothing else compares.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Newspaper with a Global Perspective
I am a big fan of British publications such as the Economist and Financial Times because they tend to offer a more balanced and global perspective of the news.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Global Perspective
With its over 150 years of experience, the Financial Times is one of the greatest newspapers in the world.Recently rated as the most reliable news source by a survey of journalists, politicians, and other authorities, there are few newspapers that can match its breadth of coverage or depth of analysis.Although it is much lighter than the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal, what it does contain is worth its weight in gold.Besides, who can remember everything in the newspaper anyway?
5-0 out of 5 stars An up-to-date review for 2006 and beyond...

5-0 out of 5 stars The best magazine out there for people in creative environments
I am not an artist, but I work with creatives. In my job as a Product Manager, I am exposed to web design, interactive design and graphic design every day. Reading through the great articles Computer Arts offers every month allows me do a better job as a manager with my product and helps me give my team better direction when it comes to creative decisions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine.
For the passionate web designer, this is the best magazine out there. Each issue comes with a cd and is packed with useful information. This cost seems a little high - about $70 more than the on the Computer Arts site (after the currency conversion). You can't go wrong when purchasing this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars great tutorials, and a great read every month
This is one of my favorite reads as far as digital arts from the UK, well written the tutorials are the off the hook and they always give you a cd with software to use. And as a graphic artist this is a book you learn by doing which i think is the best way to learn. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but worth EVERY Penny
I discovered this "magazine" while employed as the Reference and Instructional Librarian at a Culinary College. The four annual HARDCOVER issues arrive with just one ad - the back cover. The recipe quantities are typically for a family size rather than the mass serving quantities. This is important to note because this magazine IS very much oriented towards the professional or the very advanced amateur chef.Profiles and articles tend to focus on the needs of the Professional.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!
Art Culinaire is probably one of the absolute BEST magazines available to the culinary industry. Currently, I'm a culinary student and I have thoroughly enjoyed looking through each copy of Art Culinaire as my school has received it. Granted, the price is a bit steep when you're only getting four issues, but when those issues are bound like a book... They'll last far, far longer than any other magazine, no matter how careful you are with the others. Myself, I'm looking forward to having some cash free so I can get a subscription.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
This is an outstanding publication.Unlike most magazines and books, this is the real deal with full recipes from leading chefs.I simply do not understand why it is so hard to find. These recipes are complicated, but if you like to cook, you'll find this inspirational.Everything is well photographed. It doesn't get any better than this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia plus informative human interest
One reason I like to on occasion read the 'Reader's Digest' is because it and I have been both around so long. It is nice to see something I remember reading 'the human interest' stories in so many years ago. I remember how as a child I would go through their vocabulary test column.
3-0 out of 5 stars Large Print, Same Magazine
"Reader's Digest" has been my favorite general interest magazine for decades. The articles cover a wide array of topics and are either condensed from an original article in another magazine or are written in a condensed form specifically for the magazine. Each issue carries a portion of a non-fiction book written in such a way as to be an article or story and yet give you a flavor of the book itself. This version is sized similar to standard magazines with larger print for those who might be visually challenged.
3-0 out of 5 stars good content, bad company
Readers digest really has alot of great topics, i've had it for two years now, but if you plan to enjoy them, also plan on 'enjoying' countless offers for products, requests for subscriptions long before they are needed, extra mailings constantly, and quite alot of confusion in the process if you don't really read what they are asking. I recent got a 'final bill' along with an explination of how they had earlier sent me a request to 'do nothing' if i wanted to continue with my subscription. However I had no recollection of getting this request.

2-0 out of 5 stars uuuuhhhh.....so not worth it in the end.
I love the magazine for the most part. It gets to me that it is so male oriented though. Half naked chicks, stuff about sex and prostitution are all over the place. Once you look beyond that though it is pretty good. They throw gimicks in it (like free episodes, manga, and postcards) just to get people to buy it. And even if you wanted some of the animes advertised in the magazine you couldn't afford them after paying the ridiculously high subscription price. Good info and everything but if you are on a budget you simply wouldn't be able to afford it. It's better to check the bookstores to see if there is one that you really want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a very good fan magazine
When judging NewType USA by its peers, it does very well. The magazine is full of big glossy pages of Japanese content. The DVDs are also packed with trailers and episodes each month.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Anime Magazines Available!
I cannot say enough good things about Newtype USA! The quality of this magazine is simply outstanding. Each issue features in-depth articles on at least three different animes as well as a ton of smaller articles that give you a preview of new up and coming titles. Each issue also includes a dvd with at least 3 full length episodes of the newest shows, plus at least 10 trailers for other anime titles. This magazine also contains articles on Jpop/rock bands, anime conventions, the latest in japanese merchandise, and a whole lot more.I have been a subscriber to Newtype USA for over a year and I am completely, 100% satisfied with it.I am always looking forward to the next issue and highly recommend this magazine to all anime fans. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Quick Reads
I recently took a trip to the beach and brought along my ESPN mag to play in the sand. Good quick tidbits and interesting focuses "personal" side of the players. I have always been a fan of the design of this mag. I would like to see some more in depth articlesin the future but overall worth the cover price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is it?
I still haven't gotten a copy yet?It's been a month.

2-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of everything, but not much of anything
ESPN the Magazine falls somewhere between The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated.SI gives in depth articles about the athletes of the game and the games/teams themselves, but not much in the way of stats and analysis.TSN dives deep on the stats and analysis.ESPNTM gives you the superficialities of both.Sadly, the only reason I continue to renew my ESPNTM subscription is because its the cheapest way to keep up my ESPN Insider web subscription. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars beauty and advertisements
I just got my first issue. There is great beauty in the designs however there are a lot of advertisements. I do have great hope for this magazine and hope it comes true! I can't wait for more to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars More Ads Than Anything
I just received my first two issues yesterday. This magazine is page after page of advertisements. The thing that really bugs me about that is - companys run the same advertisements in the same magazines again and again so two issues are virtually the magazine since there are very few articles.
1-0 out of 5 stars Mostly ads
This magazine comes with lots of advertisements - 70% or more. Plus, articles (less than 15 articles in every issue) in the magazines are not very useful.I subscribed the magazine because it is inexpensive and it is rated high by other subscribers. Now I realize I made a mistake. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative magazine
Actually, I'd give it a 3.5.Love the magazine articles, but wish there were a few less ads (there's scarcely a page without at least one).If you aren't careful, many of the ads look like articles.I'm unfamiliar with some of the products advertised and find many of them informative - but the sheer volume affects the price I'm willing to pay for this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful magazine
My husband and I started with a free subscription to this magazine and fell in love with it.We both read it from cover to cover.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice holistic heath and wellness magazine geared mainly towards women
I've been a subscriber to Body + Soul magazine for about a year now, and I look forward to each new issue. The magazine focuses on many areas of interest to me, including healthy eating, holistic health, fitness, and personal growth. The articles frequently feature practical things like recipes, buying guides, yoga or other fitness instructions, and emotional exercises (the latter of which I find particularly helpful in my work as a psychologist). My only complaints about this magazine is that there is a bit too much of a focus on spiritual/meditation type issues, which are less relevant to me, and that the magazine is on the short side with a high number of advertisements.Otherwise, I definitely enjoy Body + Soul and do plan to renew my subscription. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great magazine
I've always remembered having Reader's Digest around the house, ever since I was born. It's full of articals for just about everyone, personally my favorites are the comic relief editorials and stories. If you ever get a chance to pick up a copy or subscription, then go for it.

2-0 out of 5 stars This magazine has indeed gone down hill
Try ripping out just the ads that are on both sides of the page and see how much reading material you are actually getting. Big Pharmacy advertisement is what this magazine is all about now. Also, let me just point out that I too have been harassed by this company about sending magazines I didn't order. Here's a tip for you if you do subscribe despite these reviews and try to cancel- Write RETURN TO SENDER on the magazines on a piece of white tape and put them back in your mailbox. This gets them to stop. What a shame this magazine is no longer of a high quality. I'd almost forgotten about this episode I had with them and my dissappointment in their skimpy reading material until reading these reviews. I was just about to get a subscription for somebody but no...no not now. Thanks for reminding me guys. Here's my two cents on top of that. Buyer beware. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for ideas, but not for "how to" information
If you are looking to do major renovation work in rooms of an older house, then this magazine will give you some ideas, before and after pictures, etc. There is precious little about minor jobs, improvements and fixes you may make on an older house. There is a lot of showcasing new and expensive top of the line stuff. My needs are more simple.I want information on fixing and improving things in my house.I am not a professional contractor. For the major stuff, I will hire someone. I have subscribed for three years but find that there is only one or two pages in each issue that can help me.Their TV show "Ask this old house" is much more informative. For magazines, I am going to try "Family Handyman" magazine instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Home-improve'ers!
This magazine keeps me coming back for more. Each month might not have something I can use but inspires me to do more and do things myself!!1

3-0 out of 5 stars Second best but not bad
FourFourTwo is full of ads and reflects the corporate side of our national game. The interviews are often anodyne and it tends to concentrate on the big clubs. When Saturday Comes is better reflecting football culture in all its various forms, unfortunately you'll have to search for it stateside. That said, this is ok and, in the land of the ball game, it must be manna from heaven.

1-0 out of 5 stars Spot the Mies van der Rohe daybed in each issue!
Like "Where's Waldo", it seems every issue must have at least one, if not several Mies van der Rohe daybeds. While this is admitedly a classic piece of furniture, one gets the impression that there are a gaggle of designers telling their clients, "You have to have one of these, they're what's IN!"Most of the features in Metropolitan Home suffer from the same fate; dreary antiseptic homes with the same dreary interiors that obviously were foisted upon gullible, uninformed clients by designers who know how to make an easy buck."Modern" equals, of course, a Mies van der Rohe daybed (notice how many times it shows up in this review?), otherwise you get month after month of 1970's florals, faux Louis the Whatever tables.Even using feature extraction, wading through the dreck and finding something useable for your own purposes, it's painful to look through this magazine. If you really want ideas for making your house reflect you, trust yourself and what YOU like, and if you do like Mies van der Rohe daybeds, by all means get one.Just don't plunk one in your sun room because you were told it's trendy. If you like the Modern style, look up the works of Hans Wegner and Peter Hvidt and go from there; their furniture still looks stylish after 50 years of hard use by real families and is sturdy as well.Maybe you want a house where nobody is allowed to set foot in any of the rooms and amounts to a bad hodge-podge of styles that all seem a bit busy and bumpy. For everyone else, think about the things you'd like to see if you walked into a room, save your money and skip this magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Contemporary Aesthetic In Home Design
I subscribe to many magazines, but of all the magazines I receive every month, my two favorites are "Dwell" and "Metropolitan Home," which both focus on the contemporary aesthetic in home design, renovation, and decorating. "Metropolitan Home" is my preferred magazine for decorating related tips, while I rely on "Dwell" more for renovation and design ideas.
