GREAT new Knitting Magazine from the UK

Outstanding (save a few quibbles)
It's interesting that the best magazine in the USA on making music with a computer, on stage, or in the church, comes from the UK. But there you have it. SOS covers everything from Mics to Monitors to Macintosh to MIDI (I'm runnning out of "M"s) and has a great feature on how classic songs and albums were made (Supertramp's The Logical Song, 10cc's I'm Not In Love, etc.). They'll re-vist a product to see if any flaws have been addressed (e.g. Arturia's Minimoog V). There are dedicated sections on the major DAWs in every issue, too.

Good Monthly Magazine - Too Expensive
This is a magazine that has good stories based on the Indian Culture and traditions. Alas, it is too expensive at a fee of $45 a month to be able to subscribe

Great magazine with social values
It is one of those magazines which has brought awareness in India's middle class. It has continuously tried to educate people against prejudice, superstition, etc. Its content is a mixture of articles on social values, family oriented stories, film and product review and a very strong editorial.

They don't make magazines like this anymore. Or they never did...
Classic Rock is a GREAT magazine. No emo. No nu metal. No punk (well, not much). So what does it have you ask?
This magazine has it all for any fan of Rock music
I found this magazine in a Borders store almost 2 years ago at $7.99.I took it home and read it from cover to cover in about 2 days, it was that hard to put down.I haven't found a magazine in the past decade where I have enjoyed each article and the subject matter enclosed.They have tons of CD, DVD and concert reviews and being from England, informs those of us on this side of the pond of new bands that we would otherwise never hear of.It took me a few issues to subscribe, but I have been on board ever since.If you like articles on bands from the past such as Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Grand Funk, Pink Floyd, Y & T, well the list goes on and on.Some are stories on what they have been up to, but mostly an article about a particular tour or making of an album that we now recognise as a classic.It has also turned me on to bands such as Status Quo, Tokyo Dragons, Young Heart Attack, and Mostly Autumn that I would have otherwise never been exposed to.Also, every 3 or 4 issues comes with a rather long playing free CD of current music that is a nice bonus that samples the gammut of rock music.I recommend this highly, mostly color pictures that have never been shown before.The Thin Lizzy spread was my favorite a couple of issues ago.Try an issue or two, you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely the best magazine out there to feature classic rock
Wow, I just got my hands on my first magazine sent to me through the Amazon.com subscription, and it is the best rock magazine I've ever read.The magazine featured ridiculous write ups on Journey, John Kalodner, Triumph, and on the cover and feature was Led Zeppelin covering the Last Days.Included were stories on Zep's final Years (77 - 80), their manager Peter Grant, Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door, and John Bonham.Those stories were very well detailed, published, thoroughly interesting, great write ups, pictorials, etc.The magazine was 146 pages, and aside for the feature contents, regular contents include a communication breakdown (which answers fans letters and emails), the dirt (all the news, rumors, and more), Everyhome should have one (where the magazine asks a musician his favorite album...this edition included Rudolf Scheneker from the Scrops saying no home should be without Steely Dan's The Royal Scam..and he was serious), The Stories Behind the SOngs (Classic Rock looking at BOC's Don't Fear the Reaper), Q & A (with Kinks Dave Davies), Bad Wisdom, The Hard Stuff (the biggest, rockingest rock reviews package on the planet covering all that is new, reissued, spotlight, DVD, books, you name it...it gets reviewed...the best review column I have ever read), and many more regular sections.

Modern Dog magazine
My new favourite magazine! Beautiful photos, smart and entertaining articles, fashion, art, exclusive celebrity interviews... all with a dog focus! Cover models range from Paris Hilton and Tinkerbell to Virginia Madsen and her dogs. Thanks to Modern Dog I now know how to throw a dog-friendly cocktail party (complete with hors d'oeuvres for both two- and four-legged guests) AND actually get my dog to come when she's called. Definitely worth checking out.

Modern Dog ROCKS!
I picked up my first copy of Modern Dog recently and I LOVE it! The style, the photos, even the ads are all exceptional. I have never bought a dog magazine before because, in my opinion, they have not been very appealing to me. BUt Modern Dog has that edge to it - very cool and very well written. Thank "DOG" somebody finally published something that is just perfect for me and my dog. I highly recommend that you check out this magazine.

This is the best & most complete music magazine out there. The interviews, sections, photographs & reviews are all great. The award winning review section is incredibly wide and complete. It's clear these people care about music.

This Magazine is one of our finest trust me...
...it is also one of the things that makes me think of home when I am not there. Q has a definitve style in the music market, while most music mags focus on a musical genre or a particular target audience, Q lets any music or artist with an ounce of talent or credibility be their prize. To this end they have featured musical interviews with everyone from Madonna to Leonard Cohen, Blur to George Michael. The breadth is incredible, the journalistic style is artistic and grittily honest. The interest and need to share on the subject of sound talent is endless. The only musical snobbery you will bare witness to here is an avid aversion to the growing "pop stars/pop idol/American idol/x factor", style dross whichfloods todays market. Thank goodness they do so instead of pandering to it without question like the mass of vile celeb trash mags do! I use the term "celeb" in it's loose sense here since one only has to show ones naked behind on Big Brother to be labelled with this dubiuos accalade these days!
If Spin was written by Brits...
There used to be tons of music magazines in Britain, but gradually they've disappeared, giving way to lifestyle magazines that run the gamut from celebrity gossip, to articles on (of all things) health. Q has always been focused on music and is pretty much the best barometer of the British music scene. It's stylish, irreverent and intelligent. They're aren't afraid to offend the interviewees neither. Read more

Best Garden Design Magazine published in English
As a professional landscape architect and plant lover, I am always on the lookout for inspiring, up to date, well written and photographed stories about design and plants.A lot to ask for, I know, but Gardens Illustrated is the best periodical that does all this that I've found to date.Consistently beautiful photographs and thorough descriptions of those photographs, interesting articles about current designers and their landscape designs, and correctly labelled latin & common names for the plants all make this a "keep every issue" kind of magazine! Stunning
It's hard to imagine ever parting with one these issues--the lush photographs are accompanied by articles written by designersand garden writers throughout the world.Witty, insightful, and absolutely gorgeous.OK.It costs a sheckle or two, but it is WELL worth it! A Must For Lovers of Mexican Art and Crafts
Anyone who loves the many fine forms of Mexican art and crafts will love to own even one issue of this veryfine magazine.The quality of the magazine itself is excellent, with very good paper stock and excellent color reproductions of the subject covered.Each issue deals with a specific subject and all of the essays in the issue pertain to that subject, giving the reader a wide range of viewpoints.The version I subscribe to is bilingual and although the English versions of the essays are, rather inconveniently, in the back of the magazine, it forces me to try to read the Spanish versions so that I can be looking at the artwork the essay is referring to.Having encountered Artes De Mexico in many bookstores and museums in Mexico and not being able to fill my suitcase with them, I am thrilled to be able to receive them now at my home.

Absolutely the best of its kind
Artes de Mexico is the premier magazine covering Mexican Art and Culture. The founder and editor, Miguel Salas Anzures created a magazine that is "a homage to the artists whose talent has classified us as a cultural community." It is an internationally recognized magazine not onlyfor thebeautiful presentation but also because it ishighly informative. It has been through several incarnations in the fifty two years it has been around. The first issue was published in 1953 in conjuction with an exhibition at The Palacios de Bellas Artes and the rest is history. Originally it only lasted two years from 1953-1955. It was reborn and lasted from 1956-1981. In 1993 it was restarted and is currently still available. The magazine is more like an oversized book coming in at 12 1/2 inches by 9 inches with plenty of photographs of painting's , architecture etc. in both color and black and white. A theme is explored for each issue with an exhaustive study in photo and essay.For example, there are issues entitled Maguey, ExVotos, Colima, Historic Mexico City, Retablos,Hernan Cortes, Haciendas, Furniture, Silver, Coins ,Costumes, Cuisine, Post Cards,Lake Patzcuaro, Heraldry etc. If there is a topic on culture Artes de Mexico has or will explore the theme. Some of Mexico's best writers have contributed to past issues including Octavio Paz, Carlos Monsivais and Carlos Fuentes amongst others. There is a diversity of contributerspresentingan array of viewpoints for quite asthetic reading. The magazine is presented in glossy thick stock with magnificent pictures for a suberb gallery that make for a book-like museum experience. The magazine is bilingual where the written word is first presented in Spanish followed by an English translation with differentadditional photos in the second part of the magazine. Many collectors value their old issueswhere the format was different as it was presented in Spanish, English , French and German. The magazine , if well taken careof , has longevity as I can testify since I have several copies from the 1960's that are in mint condition. The magazine is pricey, avilable at specialty stores as individual issues but well worth the experience of seeing the best of Mexican Culture as represented through the Arts. This is probably the best music/movie magazine out today. However, you can go to Borders books or Barnes and Nobles and get it for $8.95 or something. This deal is BS.

This is by far one of the best contemporary art magazines out there along with flash art.I don't get the subscription rate when each magazine is only $11 at the local bookstore...so double the price for a subscription?
