5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Banjo Mag
The "Banjo Newsletter" has been around for many years and continues to be "the" source for all things banjo. The articles are written in everyday language and are very helpful. All aspects are covered from beginner to advanced players with all styles including frailing, old time, bluegrass, jazz, backup and new age. There is information on current happenings as well as historical information. I know of no other single source of banjo information that is by and for banjo players of all ages and skill levels. It is highly reccommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine
This magazine fills a niche for serious banjo players who are interested in conventions, jams, new products, technical tips and specific samples of new and traditional music.I look forward to each issue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Had the last cuisenart food processor for about 30 years.
The only problems we had was having to replace the lid twice in all that time. Geat product the first time through raising 3 kids and alot of cooking. Hope this one and us can last that long. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Its more than the beginner or mainstream guitarist needs
I've subscribed to Guitar Player for a little over a year now.It seems like a great magazine that attempts to cover all of the bases of guitar playing. It has reviews and interviews with everyone from pretentious guitar heros to down-to-earth acoustic players and punk rockers. There are quite a lot of ads but they are expected for such a magazine. There are CD reviews based off of the guitarist's aspect also.
4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the rest
Let me say at the outset that I'm not a big fan of tab. Figuring out songs on your own provides a greater lesson than simply following along with tabs. Besides, there are scores of free tab sites on the web, so if you really need to know how to play a song and can't figure it out on your own or simply don't have the time, get to surfing.
2-0 out of 5 stars Guitar product reviewer....
Wow...There's a lot to see in this magazine...A lot of product reviews and a lot of advertisements. If You're looking for something to improve your playing, this is not the right source. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I have grown up on this mag!!!
If you are a bassist and you even need to read a review to figure out if this is the right mag for you, best get your head checked! I have subscribed to Bass Player since 1992 and will keep renewing my subcription until I am so old I have to have my assistant read me all the features by my craftmatic lounger. Forget Fox news, Bass Player is fair and balanced, covering everyone from the sad passing of NHOP (greatest upright player of all time) to all the standards like Jaco and Vic.Dont think that you little mall-core kids are not rep'd...all the nu-metal low enders are there as well, even though they suck the rust from under my fretwire.I have always respected this magazine and the writers seem like family...go get this now fool! word.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting!!
I ordered this mag in January and here it is, April, and I still haven't received the first issue.I have been on the phone with Synapse and they told me TWICE that they would get back to me with info on my subscription within 24 hours and I still haven't heard from them. The mag is great but the subscription service seems far below Amazon's usual service.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Customer Service
I read a few reviews on amazon and other sites about Acoustic Guitar before deciding to subscribe to it.I paid them on the 1st of May 2006 and my first copy was supposed to be the July issue (which hasn't yet turned up), on writing to them I got a response saying that I should expect it any day, well I bought their word for it, but it never reached me. It was the same story for every issue and everytime I would write to them, all that they had to say is that I should reconfirm my postal address (which is ridiculous cause I had been getting their renewal notices before even a single issue reached me, and I had brought that to their notice).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine
Unless you're into shredding, adding unnatural effects to your sound, or the latest opinions of the hard/punk rockers, this is the magazine for you.Filled with useful lessons and tips for everything from blues and country to swing and jazz, and, naturally, a lot of ads for acoustic guitars. Also, it doesn't seem to focus on any particular age group in it's ads or featured interviews/articles as many of the others do.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Quality Acoustic Guitar Magazine
This a good magazine for someone who wants to learn to play folk or fingerstyle music. I have tried all of the other magazines and this magazine as far as content and price are above the rest. That being said, this magazine is only a good suppliment for your guitar learning. Even if you don't desire to do anything but strum an acoustic guitar, I don't think this magazine can be your one source of literature. I would recommend that this magazine be purchased along with one of the mainstream magazines such as Guitar One or Guitar World. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You will love this magazine.
An amazing magazine. The quality is superb. I highly recommend this to any music lover. I will be anxiously waiting for the next issue. My collection has begun.

5-0 out of 5 stars The guitar world needed this!!!!
Finally, a killer looking instrument magazine with interesting articles about players and collectors. This mag covers a pretty wide range of topics--interviews with players, builder interviews, some historical/esoteric stuff, etc. Even has some artsy photo spreads of instruments themselves. But I loved every page of the first issue. This is mag is stunning! No tab or instruction but plenty of entertaining, smart articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best guitar magazine
I have subscribed to Fingerstyle for over five years and just reupped for another two.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Guitar Magazine
I've subscribed to this magazine for about a year, and it is *by far* the best guitar playing magazine out there.I find I spend most of my time now learning songs from this magazine than from anywhere else now. Each issue centers around a particular theme or genre of music, so I can now play a very wide range of songs that I would probably not have delved into otherwise. While some of the songs are pretty bad, there are always at least a few gems in each issue that are *well* worth learning. The CD that contains the recordings along with PDF files of the sheet music is worth its weight in gold 100x over!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to challenge yourself and improve. Get this!
I play several instruments in several styles, but I tend to view myself mainly as a fingerstyle guitarist.I've subscribed to this magazine for 2 years and I'me renewing for another 2.It's intense, and often quite difficult, but Wow!It's worth the work.

5-0 out of 5 stars on point
i often read this Magazine at my Local Book Store&it truly hits home.I Play Keyboards myself&always read on what they have to say on the latest technology also Interviews with different Artists&the Sounds they are Vibing On.you can't miss with this Magazine.very detailed on the subject matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keyboards and more
If you are a keyboard player, you probably already know about this publication. You are aware that there is no other magazine that fills this niche quite as well (although Electronic Musician comes close). You likely are a subscriber already, or you pick up an issue at the newstand every month. But anyone, keyboard player or not, who is interested in making music with technology, would be served well by checking out this magazine. "Keyboard" is almost a misnomer, actually, because, while keyboards are emphasized, there is much here regarding recording and using computers for creating music. Strange as it may sound, sometimes keyboards get short shrift in favor of coverage of software and technology. The crux of this magazine, to me, is the product review section. If an item wins a "Key Buy" designation, you know it is worth adding to your musical arsenal. It's worth saving the back issues for reference. All in all a splendid magazine for musicians. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Necessity for Piano Teachers; Of Interest to Others
CLAVIER has been around for more than forty years and many piano teachers subscribe to it. I'm not a piano teacher, just a broken-down old amateur pianist. But I find each issue has something of interest for me. As an example, in the current issue (October 2004), there is a probing interview with Jrg Demus, the Viennese pianist. He reminisces about studying with Michelangeli and Kempff. This is then followed by an interview with the two pianist-sons (Rico and Paul) of another Viennese master, Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000). Each of these articles is then followed by a reprint from earlier Clavier issues of interesting writings related to those by and about Gulda and Demus. One, by Demus, is about the influence of Bach's keyboard writing on composers to the present day, and the other is by Martha Argerich, one of Gulda's students, about what it was like to study with him. Other articles in this particular issue (and rather typical of other issues) include one by a professor at Kansas University about using electronic piano keyboards and headphones in a piano studio environment and another about career opportunities for piano technicians. There is an article about Beethoven (primarily historical information) by a long-time piano teacher, one for teachers about 'the first year of lessons,' one about how to advise parents (or students) who are moving and want to find a new teacher. And finally there's a funny (and somewhat unsettling) essay by a Toronto piano teacher whose next door neighbor called the noise abatement authorities down on him, and how he dealt with it. It is told with gentle humor and firm resolve and aside from being interesting in itself, it would probably be helpful for any other teacher who found him or herself in a similar pickle.

I have been subscribing to "Strings" for several years and enjoy the magazine. This last issue had a section on cajun music as well as an article featuring Joshua Bell, a world-class violinist who is teaming up with MIT to develop a series of high-tech instruments and musical toys designed to stiumlate children's interest in music.
