3-0 out of 5 stars Shadow of Former Self
National Review is a shadow of its former self.It is still good as a place to get the mainstream conservative perspective, but they don't seem to be as high-level or intellectually oriented as they were under the editorship of John O'Sullivan.Originally, NR was the leader and originator of the post-War conservative movement, now that that movement has had success in Washington politics, the magazine has become more of a reflection of views that are already well-known.
5-0 out of 5 stars A magazine is the lengthened shadow of one man- In appreciation of William F.Buckley Jr.
I remember when this magazine was the lone Conservative voice on the newstands. I too have memories of many long Latinate sentences which Mr.Buckley provided and I had to try and figure out.

5-0 out of 5 stars INDISPENSIBLE
The stock columns of this newspaper provide essential data in picking out the growth (small- to mid-cap) companies in which your investment will be maximized. I owe the greatest part of my SEP to this source.
2-0 out of 5 stars Reactionary paper
It's tough to read a paper and trust its business insights when the editorial page is written by such shallow, simple minded, right wing ideologues. There is interesting reporting on new and upcoming businesses, and they suggest an interesting approach to investing, but the value of their advice is severly compromised by the obvious extreme right wing pandering in evidence on the front page news and the editorial section.
2-0 out of 5 stars Damaged by reactionary op-ed, hard-sell for other product
A great tool for stock selection, but the newspaper is heavily tarnished by its op-ed page, which is to the right of Ghengis Kahn. It's also gutless, since nowhere will you find a masthead with the names of the people responsible for the poorly-written and often left-baiting copy that passes as their editorial comment.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very informative newspaper!
No mater what other amazonians are saying, i still belive that this is the best newspaper for the money it costs.Maybe it is here is England, but I''m not not sure about you people from the other side of the lake think.I think it's a very good newspaper with lots of informative articles and really good sports pages!
2-0 out of 5 stars The extreme Leftist Line kills it
The 'Guardian' on the surface appears to be precisely what a good news magazine should be. It has skilled writers who supply informative reports and analysis. I often have enjoyed its book- reviews.
1-0 out of 5 stars Buy with caution
Great information - when it arrives. Like a London bus some weeks you get no copy some you get two. When you ring to complain (which I have 3 times in the last 6 weeks) they have no record of your previous complaints, they blame the US post, they dont reply to requests to speak to a superior, and they wont credit you an extra copy. Basically taking no responsibility. I've had it. I'm discontinuing my subscription. There's so much you can get online why should anyone put up with old technology. ... Read more

We tried this for a short term, wondering if it would come on the day it was supposed to, so far so good, missed one day being on time, Snow Storm. My husband enjoys this paper, now he doesn't have to go to the store to get it and find out they are out, by noon he has todays issue. Very Pleased.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too light
Utne takes on all the right issues, but doesn't deliver the kind of indepth reporting to make it matter. Most articles are short and too tidy.An interview with Alan Ball (creator of Six Feet Under) is a perfect example.Several times in the article you think "hey, they're going to get into something interesting," but each time the interviewer changes the subject before that can happen.Another article with great potential: ten green urban projects.Unfortunately, each project gets a palty 4 lines . . . and there are no links to other sources for follow up.There is great potential at Utne, but it needs to be developed.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 PLUS 5**********
It always seems like a holiday when my UTNE arrives. It has never failed to delight me in my long tenure as a subscriber and fan.
5-0 out of 5 stars Addendum to the other reviews on the first page
Hello, this will be the third time in the last many years that I've received, and read, UR on a regular basis.I agree with most of the other reviews. However, what I find most outstanding about the magazine is how uplifting, and ultimately positive, it is.I subcribe to several dozen web sites, from the media from around the world, most of which are far left of "liberal."While I take everything that I receive, through all forms of media, with a very large "grain of salt," I do tend to put much more stock in what I read on the web than I do in what the mainstream media feeds us, especially that from the U.S.Therefore, as a result of that reading, I often feel sorrow, rage, cynicism, and/or depression.Utne's positive spin on issues, even when the subject is inherently distressful, inspires me, as almost no other form of media does (except, sometimes, music), to rise up out of any negativity that I may be indulging in, and take positive steps toward helping to make our world a better place for us all.For that, I am very grateful to everyone who is responsible for such a fine magazine.Thank you, Utne. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars On Par With The Economist and Better Than Foreign Affairs Journal!
I'm happy that I ordered a subscription to this magazine as it not only matches, but surpasses the content provided in the Foreign Affairs Journal. The student discount rate I received (at the official foreign policy website) has the most reasonable price. Each new issue of FP contains a barrage of perspectives on numerous topics that are very relevant today. Photos, graphs, and charts also help to breathe life into each article and helped me to better grasp the content presented.
5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
Very interesting and enjoyable to read. As a student of political science and international relations, this is a great way to keep updated about the current issues and problems in the international arena. It is not dry or boring.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still a worthwhile investment, in spite of decline
Foreign Policy magazine is not what it once was. Authoritative, well argumented and thought out articles are incrasingly giving way to collections of "Did you knows", short pieces which try to include more wit than substance, and statistics for readers to gawk at, rather than to give context and meaning. FP is trying to be more like Time or Newsweek and is not getting any better for it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Washington Post
For those of us without easy access to the Post -- one of the outstanding newspapers in the U. S. -- the Weekly is an excellent way to get articles and columns on the important matters of the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Convenient
The Washington Post is an excellent newspaper and this condensed weekly edition essentially allows one to read the highlights and the best or most important of the week's news. This is especially handy for people who do not live in the DC area who want access to one of the nation's most well respected papers without having to wade through the daily edition.I frequently travel so I often pick up a copy if I'm out of town for a week to catch up on the news.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent analysis

Nowhere more than in the US is this kind of publication desperately needed - what with all the doublespeak, pseudo-science and borderline-illegal/unethical claims being made in advertising, advertorials, product placements etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource!
The single most valuable part of Classical Singer is the audition listings found in the back of every issue. This is the easiest way for singers to find out about upcoming auditions. The articles are usually short, and cover a wide range of topics.I recommend that every professional or up and coming singer subscribe to this magazine, join Opera America, and purchase Opera America's publications for singers. These two resources together provide all the information you need to make it in this business. If you are just an opera fan, then this magazine might not be of as much interest. In that case I would recommend Opera News.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift
I bought Classical Singer for my daughter who is in High School looking to attend college. We were surprised when we found a magazine just for singers. It was by far the best gift we could get her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeping Classical singers in " Pitch"
I recently, for the first time, discovered the" Classical Singer". I have often dreamed of producing a magazine that gives singers like myselfcategorised, concise ,variety ofeasy to readcommunication on current events in the music world. Who are the current and rising stars?Where do they perform? How do I go about finding and agent? Who and where are the choruses, opera groups, to which I could apply. This magazine covers the need of a singer predominantly.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Information you won't find elsewhere!
Working in the health and health research field for over 15 years,I read many health magazines and newsletters. When I came across FAN News recently I was pleasantly surprised. FAN News is simply objective reporting without bias or commercialization with selling of products. What FAN News does offer is very useful information- information you won't find elsewhere! In my first issue of FAN, one article I especially liked was on the subject of water. Briefly- We need pure drinking water, yet distilling your water or using a reverse osmosis system can be damaging to your body and tap water in most places isn't fit to drink. What should we do? The article goes on to tell you how to optimize your water source to reduce or eliminate FM/CFS symptoms or general health problems. These and other articles that are important to health are found in FAN News. This is not just a fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue magazine. It is an important resource for health in general as well as practical news tips in resolving complex health issues. My healh is good yet I was surprised how much I gleaned from FAN- new information I had never considered before. It's worth the subscription price many times over- for the money you save on worthless remedies. Try a subscription- you'll be glad you did!Tahnee Grauer

5-0 out of 5 stars Addresses the whole person
What strikes me most strongly about FAN News is that it addresses the whole person -- body, mind, and spirit -- not to mention taste buds! Robin's commitment to a providing a relevant and high-quality newsletter is very evident. The articles are well-written, informative, and insightful ... I believe FAN News is a useful and encouraging resource for those dealing with FM and CFS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended for anyone with a chronic illness!
I recently had the opportunity to read FAN News and subsequently subscribed in order to gather information on alternative therapies for chronic pain. I have not been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I found the insightful and well-written articles in FAN News to be helpful with managing my own personal health challenges. I also gained a greater understanding of fibromyalgia and support all those suffering with it and related conditions. The newsletter is well laid out, thoughtful and serious, while still remaining upbeat. It offers hope to it's readers and in addition to the health articles, I enjoyed such sections as: Recipes to the Rescue, Positive Perspectives, Ask the Doc, and On a Lighter Note. I have read both issues (that are out so far) cover to cover and will continue to go back to them for reference...and encouragement. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the best
As someone who reads a lot of magazines and who is a left-liberal, I remain a stalwart supported of The New Republic. This despite the fact that, yes, they supported the Iraq war. Their crucial failing in that enterprise was that they assumed that Bush would work with Democrats, etc., and actually get the job done. It's easy for the anti-war left to bash them after the fact, but at least you can say they take the moral and ethical high road: they've been advocating for military intervention on humanitarian grounds for years, and even if, as in the case for Iraq, they made many mistakes, the fact that they represent an American left willing to intervene on non-self-interested grounds is important in and of itself.
5-0 out of 5 stars A high- quality intellectual journal
I have through the years read many different pieces from the TNR . They almost always were of high quality, credible and convincing. There are exceptions. They not so long back published a piece by Tony Judt on Israel which I found ill- informed and outrageous. In general however they have through the years been fairly understanding of the special dilmenasthat Israel faces. Editor Martin Peretz is a strong Israel supporter although he takes a quite dovish Shimon Pereslike line.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best weekly newsmagazine in the country
I'm a liberal, and I've been a devoted reader of TNR since the 1950s.And yes it is a liberal magazine. It does excellent investigative work. And I have not noticed much of a change in its politics in the past 50 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uninterrupted Crime Fighting since 1938
If you want the inside scoop on criminal activity in St. Louis written in a lively entertaining style, the "Evening Whirl" is your premiere source.I do miss the "Wife Beaters and Mean Mistreaters", "The Elite Gun Club", and "Booze Hound and Hooch Hound Club" columns that were previous features of the publication. When a major crime occurs in St. Louis the "Evening Whirl" gives you details that the major paper ignores or glosses over. And they have colored boxes at the beginning of articles to classify them:
