The highlight of recent trip to hospital.
Recently my family was visiting a relative in the hospital.I spotted the 60th anniversary issue of Highlights for Children.In perusing it I noted how the magazine's style and format had evolved over the years.In showing the magazine to my [...] year old daughter, I realized that Higlights appeal to children had not waned since I was a kid. My daughter simply adored it.She especially liked the riddles.She has asked us to get a subscription, which we will gladly oblige her with come Christmas.

A BIG TIP
I read Highlight Magazine faithfully when I was a child.Now I am a mother of two (2nd grade and Kind.).I just got a tip from a teacher at school - the writers of the Highlight (Harcourt) also write the exam for the 3rd grade state test in New York state.

excellent resource
I enjoyed this magazine as a kid, but then, I also loved Electric Company.Looking at both now, they seem dated and tedious, but perhaps our children need something that moves at a slower pace than everything seems to do now. Neither of my children (5 & 7) enjoyed Highlights at first, but after getting a subscription from their grandmother, they have discovered the joy of curling up in a quiet corner and figuring out the puzzles and stories for themselves.It's a magazine with a style and format that encourages reflection and absorption, rather than a voracious grab and go version of reading, that I believe will give a child a better foundation."To read without reflection is like eating without digesting" Edmund Burke ... Great Magazine!
It is unfortunate that so many customers have had bad experience with the billing of this magazine, because it is a truly wonderful product.Each issue is an in-depth exploration of a single topic, so kids can really learn a lot.It's a nice change from other kids magazines that have a "sound byte" approach to information.

I also got this disgusting subscription "invoice" from these jerks. I don't care HOW GOOD A MAGAZINE IS, if someone has to use deceptive, threatening and totally bogus marketing practices to ensnare new subscriptions, their magazine should not be rewarded with anyone's business. I never ordered or got a single issue of their rag. Only a repeating smack in the face via mailbox claiming I am going to be "referred to a collection agency."KIDS Discover, you will NEVER get a cent out of me. Last time I checked we still live in a land where we don't have to pay for what we never got. If you spent as much time working on a good magazine for kids as you do sending out fake bills, you would have enough subscribers you wouldn't have to Shanghai any new ones with your fraudulent billing scam.

Zoobooks
My 6 year old son loved this magazine. His eyes would light up whenever the magazine would arrive in the mail. The colorful photographs and fun facts about lots of types of animals made the magazine fun to read for both he and I.

An easy to read format for the budding animal enthusiast with activities for subscribers online and inside the middle section of the magazine.
A treasure to keep
I hope this magazine hasn't changed from when I got it as a child 20 years or so ago, because I dearly loved it then.It's not so much a magazine, with different articles and recurring features, as a vividly illustrated report on a different group of animals each month. (I wore out the binding on my "Alligators and Crocodiles" issue.) The beautiful drawings are both fun to look at and packed with information -- when I was taking biology courses in college I realized my old Zoobooks spreads of, say, "all the parrots of the world" had given me an intuitive grasp of comparative adaptation without my realizing I was learning anything.Be warned -- if you get this for your child, you may have to listen to all of the things she has learned about monkeys for months at a time! ... Great Magazine - Great Vocabulary Builder
I got the book first and then subscribed to this magazine in March. I agree with the other reviewed - GET THE CD version. The Audio CD is great for listening without the text to help you understand the spoken language as I think thats the hardest part.This is such a great magazine for learning Spanish, building vocabulary and keeping up with the language. I highly recommend this product to all Spanish students.

Fabulous language learning magazine!
I am a Spanish teacher and I use this magazine with my students. It is a fabulous magazine for all levels and all ages. It is hands down one of the best language learning supplements on the market. I recommend it to anyone looking to improve their Spanish.If you have a means to practice speaking the magazine only will benefit you. If you are not able to regularly speak or listen to the language you will certainly need the CD.
Better than nothing but lots of errors, lousy delivery service
This magazine and CD combo will help you improve your Spanish reading and listening skills - with some big "buts."BUT you will find that the translated words and phrases often aren't the ones you actually need help with.BUT sometimes the translation tells you nothing (ex: in an articla about a soccer tournament, the word "quadrilateral" was translated "quadrilateral" - it referred somehow to the tournament format but who knows how?).BUT there are numerous grammatical errors in the English and surprisingly frequent typos in the Spanish, which even I can spot.BUT each issue is rather short.BUT I've only been able to receive one issue on time - the first one - every one since I've had to email and report the issue not arrived and they have had to send a replacement from the office.

A must have resource
As an art teacher who has taught at all level from elementary to high school, this is a very valuable resource. I have been a subscriber for 7 years and still have every issue. Whenever I am looking for new ideas for my classes, I turn back to my past issues and always find a great project. One of the best for our field.

Great Product for improving your Spanish
I have been a subscriber for four months and I love this magazine. I initially subscribed without the Audio CD but I added the Audio Cd after receiving my first issue.There are about 12 articles each month and I have found this is the perfect length for me.I am able to get through the magazine in a month and it goes along perfectly with the Spanish conversation class I am taking at the community college. I would say my level is 2nd year Spanish and I think this magazine could continue along with me for another two years. They give a suggested use part in the front and I highly recommend following it.If you stick to it you will be surprised at how much you are learning!And you get some cool culture/travel facts by reading the articles that I can't imagine you'd find anywhere else!Buena Suerte!
Good for learning
Increasingly you need to have two or more languages. If your kids are learning spanish, this is helpful.

Very Good for those who've studied some Spanish
If you would like to keep your reading and listening skills up but live in a situation where you do not have frequent chances to do so in real life, this Magazine should be very helpful for you. It covers a wide range of subject materials of all Latin countries, including Spain; the vocabulary improvement with these articles is significant. One word of Caution: I do not think that this magazine is for a brand-new person to Spanish. At least one year of formal Spanish in high school or college would be advisable. I had two years of high school Spanish and two years of University level Spanish and lived the first 30 years of my life in Texas; and yet, I still find this magazine challenging while at the same time very helpful. It also makes a great and unique gift. BE SURE TO BUY THE AUDIO CD ALONG WITH THE PRINTED MAGAZINE; that is more expensive but well worth it!

Teacher of 3 year olds at a Church Daycare
We're doing a theme this week on Nursery Rhythms & I picked up an old Mailbox dated 2000.I found Nursery Rhythms.I jumped at the chance 2 start getting ideas.I found a lamb I can copy 2 do crayon shavings on, an idea on There was an Old Woman who lived in a Shoe & an idea 4 crafts on Humpty Dumpty.There r recipes that u can adapt 4 your age appropriate group.I like the pages u can tear out.I need more ideas 4 my centers & would like a suggestion on any MAAILBOX thatcould help.My centers are Lego Land, Crafts, Library & Puzzle, Opening Center, Kitchen Center with a salon.I'd like 2 c some Bible stories relating 2 things on the outside cover of the issue.Being a preschool teacher at a Church daycare would really b of great assistance.I was wondering if this could start a.s.a.p.I would like 2 receive a free issue of PRESCHOOL.Thank u so much 4 taking your time 2 give ideas 4 teachers that want 2 do their best.With our society as rushed as it is it's nice 2 know that MAILBOX can assist in making teacher's lesson plans a whole lot less time consuming.I've picked up a lot of academic ideas that the students need 2 learn before they reach Kindergarten.Thank u again.
