Do you like learning?
I've actually met people who have said, "I'm too old to learn new things." And younger folk who have said, "That's too much like being in class." If you're one of these people, don't bother with Mental Floss magazine, or with going to school any more, or for that matter, with continuing to be alive in the first place. Living is learning, and this magazine helps edify and entertain you while you're doing all that living and learning. Most highly recommended.

This is truly one of my favorite magazines!It's been a favorite gift for friends and I know that it is being passed to others so each issue gets multiple readings.Of course, my issues are safely in my home library since some things are too good to share.

The Best Banjo Mag
The "Banjo Newsletter" has been around for many years and continues to be "the" source for all things banjo. The articles are written in everyday language and are very helpful. All aspects are covered from beginner to advanced players with all styles including frailing, old time, bluegrass, jazz, backup and new age. There is information on current happenings as well as historical information. I know of no other single source of banjo information that is by and for banjo players of all ages and skill levels. It is highly reccommended.

Great magazine
This magazine fills a niche for serious banjo players who are interested in conventions, jams, new products, technical tips and specific samples of new and traditional music.I look forward to each issue.

Had the last cuisenart food processor for about 30 years.
The only problems we had was having to replace the lid twice in all that time. Geat product the first time through raising 3 kids and alot of cooking. Hope this one and us can last that long. ... Read more

The magazine
This is the only music magazine you ever need to read. This is what Rolling Stone should aspire to be. There is really nothing more to say than if you like music this is all there is.

It was great while it lasted....
I am a big fan of this magazine, but even more so of the "free" cd--when it is good, it is very good.So I finally subscribed despite the stiff price.Two issues came, I was happy, then a third without the cd, and then...no more.After many calls and complaints, Amazon finally secured a partial refund--not exactly what I wanted.Here's hoping that the delivery problems can be worked out--maybe an opaque wrapper?

Great content but delivery is problematic
As far is the writing is concerned this is a top notch rock magazine. The format is appealing and the pages are not marred by one too many ads. Another plus is the CD that comes with each issue ; this might help justify the cost. The original CD's are priceless with real gems that the average music listener may not have heard of.They choose a theme and run with it, creating an eclectic mix of artists to illustrate their theme.Take for example a few months back when it was legendary tracks from Studio One in Jaimaca where it featured little known artists among reggae afficionados like Ernest Ranglin, Michiganand Smiley next to giants like Bob Marley, The Skatalites for a complete view of the important record label of reggae. I really enjoy the monthly features including tributes to those that passed away in the month entitled"Real Gone." Old rock stars are going faster than they did in the seventies! Other good features are the brief reviews of music indexed as Filter reissues, reissues extra, tracks,buried treasurean just plain Filter Albums(current stuff). The in depth articles of the cover subject are very entertaining and what actually drew me to Mojo intiallyfor information. There is one draw back for US subsrcibers, it is a long way acros the pond and problems will occurr. In the last year my problems have been as follows: was receiving my issues two weeks after the stores had copies, missing CD's. To their credit both problems were solved in spite of having to send three issues so that I would finally get my ripped off CD,it was stole twice! Subscriber beware. Sending it in clear plastic with the words CD inside is just an invitation to a thief. Otherwise it is maybe the best rock music magazine out there and I defintely recommend the Brits perspective. ... Read more

uuuuhhhh.....so not worth it in the end.
I love the magazine for the most part. It gets to me that it is so male oriented though. Half naked chicks, stuff about sex and prostitution are all over the place. Once you look beyond that though it is pretty good. They throw gimicks in it (like free episodes, manga, and postcards) just to get people to buy it. And even if you wanted some of the animes advertised in the magazine you couldn't afford them after paying the ridiculously high subscription price. Good info and everything but if you are on a budget you simply wouldn't be able to afford it. It's better to check the bookstores to see if there is one that you really want.

Overall, a very good fan magazine
When judging NewType USA by its peers, it does very well.The magazine is full of big glossy pages of Japanese content.The DVDs are also packed with trailers and episodes each month.
One of the Best Anime Magazines Available!
I cannot say enough good things about Newtype USA! The quality of this magazine is simply outstanding.Each issue features in-depth articles on at least three different animes as well as a ton of smaller articles that give you a preview of new up and coming titles. Each issue also includes a dvd with at least 3 full length episodes of the newest shows, plus at least 10 trailers for other anime titles.This magazine also contains articles on Jpop/rock bands, anime conventions, the latest in japanese merchandise, and a whole lot more.I have been a subscriber to Newtype USA for over a year and I am completely, 100% satisfied with it.I am always looking forward to the next issue and highly recommend this magazine to all anime fans. ... Finally!!! A Music Magazine Worth Subscribing To
When it comes to music, culture, and overall coverage of meaningful entertainment, Paste is where it's at. Fairly a new publication (starting in July of 2002), the magazine has soared in popularity and holds its own in a marketplace saturated with bland and repetitive articles.
How did they do that?
PASTE magazine was made just for me!I don't even know how it came to be...I had started to receive the now-defunct TRACKS magazine (unsolicited - - probably a last-ditch effort to build a subscriber base) and when they finally went under, I was credited with two issues of PASTE.WOW!This magazine is utterly awesome!Besides the cd (or dvd - - or sometimes both!), the music, the films, the cultural issues are all enlightening and well-written.It is obviously a labor of love for all those involved in its creation.It is literally chock-full of interesting stuff, particularly not-necessarily-mainstream stuff.In all honesty, I find the advertisements particularly helpful in turning me on to new great artists, which I probably would not have heard of otherwise.I also appreciate the thicker-than-average cover, since I tend to carry it around with me for a while, to devour it by bits and pieces in every spare moment.Each issue ends up plastered with sticky-note reminders to check out or follow-up on something or other, and I've even resorted to folding over pages of interesting articles for later reference.The magazine holds up very well to my attentive abuse.So, if you are ready to escape the pablum that the entertainment industry has been spoon-feeding you for so very long, be sure to check out PASTE.Support real artists, you won't be disappointed.

THE ultimate dumbing down of the American press
Okay, so In Touch has never claimed to be anything other than what it is: A glossy tabloid.But just when you didn't think it was possible for the American tabloid press to dumb down any further, along came In Touch Weekly and US Weekly.
Buy OK or US magazine instead
This magazine is more National Enquirer than the others in the genre.They seem to just fabricate their stories from thin air.

This is what a guitar mag should look and sound like
I agree with the other reviewers who point out the many useful music tools in this mag. The UK is where English started so if you like literate writers rather than being pitched to like an 8 year old you'll like this magazine. My gripes are that I can buy them at big box bookstores for pennies more than the subscription rate. The price fluctuates with market $ vs Pound/Euro and the delivery time for the 1st issue is 12 to 16 weeks! The stores get them faster. So if they had a better subscription deal and faster delivery I would definitely subscribe. Besides anyone that calls a tube a valve and a wrench a spanner is okay in my book.

It's all about the music
I've been buying guitar magazines since 1990 and have a collection of hundreds of them. This one is the best! It has always been good, but these days I think it stands out from the crowd even more. I've seen magazines start out good, full of useful information and sheet music, then plunge to the depths of crappy industry gossip and little else. These guys have kept a strong loyalty to the musicians who wanna play, rather than the ones who care about image and nothing much else.
A modular music library
Most guitar magazines seem to be heavy on discussion of artists but light on actual music. GT still talks about artist's styles, but then gives you the tab and standard notation for one of their works or a class on how to solo in their style. A standard issue contains sections like rock, jazz, acoustic fingerstyle, Funk and country, followed by workshops on (for eg.) using altered tunings, increasing fretting speed, and other interesting things.Read more

A MAGAZINE THAT SETS ITSELF APART!!!
An Argentine friend of mine introduced hello to me about ten years ago. This mag sets itself apart from others and I had no idea that it existed, being a magazine freak myself.
HELLO MAGAZINE
I ordered HELLO on Jan.10,2005 through Amazon for my wife.She has not rec'd an issue since July,2005. Neither the magazine nor Amazon has succeeded in restarting deliveries and compensating her for the missed issues. In view of the $266 subscription rate I find this to be irresponsble.

Hello! Magazine has been my hidden little guilty pleasure for years. It is to People what the New York Times is to USA Today. And the best thing of all: Hello! is kind. There is never a mean spirited article or vicious comment on any of the celebrity scandals or controversies. Never. Everything is upbeat and respectful at all times.

Playgirl isn't what it used to be- Try CFNM
For years I loved this magazine because of it's depiction of straight men as the objects of women's affection in beautiful and erotic ways. It has since gone down hill a little. But a great alternative I would suggest is the genre of CFNM. This is where women enjoy naked men, but the women always stay clothed. Often the men are jocks, business executives or police officers, men in power who are made into objects the women (and men) can enjoy.

Not bad for my first time
I had never before purchased this magazine so had no idea what to expect.I was impressed as there are many gorgeous men displayed throughout and the reading is also good.I do think the magazine could add a few more pages... but overall, this magazine has done me well (most certainly when I have to be home alone 3 nights out of the week).My man is gorgeous but when he's not home, this magazine can do the trick. ... It's almost as if this magazine writes it's stories 2 mounths in advance onces you get the "latest" copy it's news that has been repeated 7961,583 times . It does however have decent posters (that's why it got a 2 and not just 1) but thats about the only thing that this magazine has to offer.

i think that this magazine is good once in while but not as a subscription. the magazine doesnt vary enough for a subscription. i get this magazine maybe once every 4 months and it doesnt get boring. plus i like the posters.

Typical bubblegum tween stuff...
From grades 4 to 6, I read "M" magazine religously, thinking it was one of the coolest things in the world. And I did enjoy it, a lot. But by the time I got to 7th grade, this magazine just got kind of dull and boring. I would say that the target range for this magazine would probably be ages 9-12; if you're older than that, you will probably get so fed up with the short articles and constant articles on Hilary Duff that you'll throw the magazine out the window or something.

Finally!
I always enjoyed going grocery shopping with my mom -- while she shopped, I hung out in the magazine section reading Mad, Cracked, and FANGORIA.Now, 25 years later -- I finally got my own subscription -- and unlike retro video games, nostalgic 80's cd's, and Members Only jackets, this is just as good as I remember.
The internet will do them in
One of my greatest childhood memories involving horror movies concerns Fangoria magazine. You would think the recollection would have something to do with watching "Friday the 13th" or "Halloween" for the first time, and I do have those memories to keep me warm at night, but my first vivid impression of the shocking power of horror films hit me at the tender age of ten or eleven when I stumbled into the local drugstore and picked up a copy of this magazine. I don't remember what the cover looked like--surely it was one of the grotesque images Fangoria routinely plasters on the front cover that initially caught my eye--but I do recall thumbing through the magazine rather quickly in case the nosy cashier decided a youth of my tender years shouldn't look through such a gruesome publication. Immediately before I sat the magazine back on the rack, my eyes settled on a nauseating color photograph of one of those "axe in the head" effects so common in slasher films of the era. I suspect this still came from footage eventually excised from the theatrical cut, however, because it was far worse than what we usually see. I almost lost my lunch on the spot. Even today, I wish I knew which movie that scene came from.
OVER 20 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG
You've got to take your hat off to Fangoria.Whether their style of gory, visceral coverage of the horror genre appeals to you or not you can't deny their success.The fact that they've been doing it for 20 years is really a marvel in the world of magazines, let alone genre magazines.

One of the best...
This is simply one of the best movie magazines on the market. You can always be sure to be updated on the latest movies and dvd releases, and it's nice that the crew of Empire doesn't take themselves too seriously; the articles are well written but keeps the humour intact as well, where other movie magazines seem to be too keen on showing how intellectual they are. Unfortunately it's rather expensive here in Denmark, but it's worth the price.

TOP MOVIE MAGAZINE - HANDS DOWN
No question. If you followed ALL movie magazines, even the sci-fi and fantasy spin-offs, quick VHS magazines (remember those!) then you should also remember about the time BATMAN premiered (what great movie hype!) Empire Magazine ran its first issue and then the great BATMAN #2 issue and we have not stopped collecting since, nearing issue 200 now as I write this, it has been a good one so far and I am sure will keep up the same pace for all new to the greatest `non-digital' monthly pages on the planet, I urge young and old alike to start collecting and reading now.

ok, but won't help you be a better drummer
I'd like to think that reading MD in my younger years had even a little positive effect, but for impressionable youngsters, this mag is not going to help you be a better player.And it peddles a lot of jive images that have nothing to do with what playing music is about.
a must have for all drummers
I can't see any reason why drummers don't read Moderndrummer magazine. I've been subcribing Moderndrummer for years and I always enjoy reading them, comparing to other drum related mag, the interviews and critiques are very informative and inspiring, i learnt a lot about product knowledge and maintainence, drummers and bands, and not to mention technique thru out the years of subscrbing MD, the whole magazine is well organized by easy and comfortable to read lay-out and meaningful content, instead some of the so called drumming magazine which interview drummers about their day life and what they think about that specific cities, Moderndrummer really concentrate on how to help their reader to be a better drummer in general.
Excellent Mix
There aren't many magazines for drummers that you run across at your average newstand (usually only two or three). This is the best all-around one to get. Good interviews, good reviews, good advertising. Not much on the local scene, but I can live with that. ... Read more

The Source for All My Favorite New Bands
I can give this great music magazine no greater praise than to say that pretty much all of my favorite new bands in the last couple of years have been discovered through Under the Radar. On top of that, they also write great articles on some of my pre-existing favorite bands. Under the Radar generally has much better writing than some of the other indie music mags out there (Devil In the Woods, Rockpile, Big Takeover, etc.) and fits my musical tastes perfectly.

under the radar has pretty good articles, pretty consistently.i wouldn't call it a good source for finding out about new bands, though, like others have said.i find arthur mag, wire mag, and devil in the woods mag to be a lot better for that.

Under the Radar and Filter are the only music magazines I come near. I hear Mojo is just as informative, renovative, and enjoyable, but I'm a little too close-minded to care about other genres I... don't care much about. Fans of rock/pop/what the kids are calling "indie"/alternative/punk/post-punk/folk/!!!!, take a gander at this.

This mag........
.....ROCKS!!!!! First thing, I am not a kid, but it is quicker to use this option. Aaanyways...this magazine is amazing. It features a very wide range of bands, but not in an annoying way. I mean, if you were into death metal and it kept having loads of punk, that would be annoying, and vice versa. There are so many different parts to it....and check out Pandora, the rockin cartoon with the rockin star and her HOT dreadlocked sidekick Wek.....lol!
the standard by which all others should be measured
Absolutely brilliant magazine- shame the U.S. does not have an equivalent.Very well-written and informative; I've found out about more bands through this mag than any other I've read. Much more professional than its American counterparts (Metal Edge, Circus, etc).Covers all sorts of metal/rock bands, from Linkin Park to Slayer.This is a British weekly magazine- not a monthly- so the cost is high but well worth it if you can afford it.

Greatest rock magazine
Kerrang! is by far the most informative rock magazine that has ever been published!I can count on Kerrang! to get the best interviews, be up to date, and get the facts straight from the mouths of the musicians.Its a hard to find magazine in the US, but if you can spare the money it is well worth your dollar if your intereseted in the world of hard rock.They also cover a wide range of bands that the US wouldn't even touch, and are always turning you on to new music with free CDs. ... Its more than the beginner or mainstream guitarist needs
I've subscribed to Guitar Player for a little over a year now.It seems like a great magazine that attempts to cover all of the bases of guitar playing. It has reviews and interviews with everyone from pretentious guitar heros to down-to-earth acoustic players and punk rockers. There are quite a lot of ads but they are expected for such a magazine. There are CD reviews based off of the guitarist's aspect also.
Better than the rest
Let me say at the outset that I'm not a big fan of tab. Figuring out songs on your own provides a greater lesson than simply following along with tabs. Besides, there are scores of free tab sites on the web, so if you really need to know how to play a song and can't figure it out on your own or simply don't have the time, get to surfing.

The Best Guilty Pleasure That I'm Proud To Read
When I was living in London last year I randomly came upon heat and was INSTANTLY addicted. My flatmates and I would go back and forth between buying it week after week. I couldn't wait for Tuesday to role around so I could get the next issue. heat not only has great paparrazi photos, but it's hilarious. Whoever the writers are, they're genius. I love the sense of humor and teasing of celebrities. I especially love that they don't validate celebs for getting increasingly skinny and unhealthy, such as every American counterpart does.

I think that Heat is the best magazine out there.I religously buy it every Tuesday when I'm in England, and when I'm back in the states, I make my boyfriend go through the embarassment of buying it and have him send it to me.The best thing about it though, is they don't sugar coat the stories.They tell it like it is, or show it like it is!By far my favorite celeb mag from any country!

Once a week is not enough!
Heat has got to be the best goss magazine ever!I've never really enjoyed People or any of those crap American magazines at the checkout of virtually every supermarket.Brit celebs are so much more interesting!After my very first issue, I was hooked.The pics, the gossip, the headlines, the stories.....I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting!And I wanted MORE!Heat, you just cannot put down.Once I get a new issue, I don't even know where to start.There are so many juicy headlines...which one do I read first?Then I have to wait an entire week until I can get my hands on the next one..... ...
