2-0 out of 5 stars uuuuhhhh.....so not worth it in the end.
I love the magazine for the most part. It gets to me that it is so male oriented though. Half naked chicks, stuff about sex and prostitution are all over the place. Once you look beyond that though it is pretty good. They throw gimicks in it (like free episodes, manga, and postcards) just to get people to buy it. And even if you wanted some of the animes advertised in the magazine you couldn't afford them after paying the ridiculously high subscription price. Good info and everything but if you are on a budget you simply wouldn't be able to afford it. It's better to check the bookstores to see if there is one that you really want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a very good fan magazine
When judging NewType USA by its peers, it does very well. The magazine is full of big glossy pages of Japanese content. The DVDs are also packed with trailers and episodes each month.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Anime Magazines Available!
I cannot say enough good things about Newtype USA! The quality of this magazine is simply outstanding. Each issue features in-depth articles on at least three different animes as well as a ton of smaller articles that give you a preview of new up and coming titles. Each issue also includes a dvd with at least 3 full length episodes of the newest shows, plus at least 10 trailers for other anime titles. This magazine also contains articles on Jpop/rock bands, anime conventions, the latest in japanese merchandise, and a whole lot more.I have been a subscriber to Newtype USA for over a year and I am completely, 100% satisfied with it.I am always looking forward to the next issue and highly recommend this magazine to all anime fans. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
I always enjoyed going grocery shopping with my mom -- while she shopped, I hung out in the magazine section reading Mad, Cracked, and FANGORIA.Now, 25 years later -- I finally got my own subscription -- and unlike retro video games, nostalgic 80's cd's, and Members Only jackets, this is just as good as I remember.
3-0 out of 5 stars The internet will do them in
One of my greatest childhood memories involving horror movies concerns Fangoria magazine. You would think the recollection would have something to do with watching "Friday the 13th" or "Halloween" for the first time, and I do have those memories to keep me warm at night, but my first vivid impression of the shocking power of horror films hit me at the tender age of ten or eleven when I stumbled into the local drugstore and picked up a copy of this magazine. I don't remember what the cover looked like--surely it was one of the grotesque images Fangoria routinely plasters on the front cover that initially caught my eye--but I do recall thumbing through the magazine rather quickly in case the nosy cashier decided a youth of my tender years shouldn't look through such a gruesome publication. Immediately before I sat the magazine back on the rack, my eyes settled on a nauseating color photograph of one of those "axe in the head" effects so common in slasher films of the era. I suspect this still came from footage eventually excised from the theatrical cut, however, because it was far worse than what we usually see. I almost lost my lunch on the spot. Even today, I wish I knew which movie that scene came from.
4-0 out of 5 stars OVER 20 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG
You've got to take your hat off to Fangoria.Whether their style of gory, visceral coverage of the horror genre appeals to you or not you can't deny their success. The fact that they've been doing it for 20 years is really a marvel in the world of magazines, let alone genre magazines.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous and Funny Magazine
This is by far my favorite magazine. The pictures are excellent, the articles are informative and hilarious, it gives information on movies years in advance and the reviews are reliable. The best part about this magazine however is that every time I look through it I find something new.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore Spike Fetts review!!!
Spike Fett is mistaken. The 100 Greatest Moments he mentions is not for ALL TIME. They were the top 100 moments of the magazines lifetime, which is only 8 years.
1-0 out of 5 stars A joke to anyone who knows anything about cinema.
This magazine recently (April 05) featured what they felt were the 100 greatest movie moments of all time.Number 1 was the sing-along scene from MAGNOLIA.Other moments in the top 10 included the credits from AUSTIN POWERS 3 and one of Eugene Levy's quotes from AMERICAN PIE.Keep in mind, these are the 100 greatest movie moments of ALL TIME.

There are different types of film magazines. Many are how-to's. Others just give the same blurbs over and over and rehashed and rehashed.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Widescreen" Review? BULLS__T!
Hell, I took one look at that title and bought it. But let me tip you off - it's FALSE advertising, because the gist of this pub is it's technical home equipment writing, which I'm sure is good if you're looking for that sort of thing. But to call it "Widescreen Review" is bogus. Don't let the eye-catching cover fool you. There's nothing in here detailing the aesthetic quality of wide-format cinematography, or types of principal photography. Rarely, they'll feature an interview with someone pertinent and interesting to movies and dvds, but that's maybe once every 2 years. Actually, you can find some info in 2 pages in a POORLY laid-out grid of each dvd they choose to review but it's hardly enough. This magazine is boring. Don't subscribe to it. Flip through it at the newsstand, but that's it. A better title for this waste would be "Home Theater Tech Whiz Monthly".

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic magazine for any and all AV/HT enthusiasts!
This magazine does an incredible job balancing the "hardcore" information and articles and the more casual, easy material. It's all too easy to get sunk down in technobabble when reviewing or discussing electronics, but WS does as good a job as I've ever seen of not falling into that trap. On that note, they'll provide some of the more detailed specs and information for the hardcore folks as well, but it's never confusing or hard to follow.

This magazine is a must for any type of collector!!4-0 out of 5 stars A great mag for poster collectors
Not really a magazine, more like a tabloid paper, this once a month publication has long been regarded as "the bible" for movie poster collectors, buyers and sellers. An honest and famly run operation gives it a real personal feel. Always lots of ads for movie posters in it - although not like the "good old days" (before the internet). I read mine cover to cover when it arrives. ... Read more

Is a pleasure for me to enjoy every two months this remarkable publication , La tempestad is probably one of the best magazines made in Mexico about Arts, Music, Architechture, scenic performances, films, Literature, Biographys, paiting, sculpture, photography, etc, Collaborations are as awesome as you can imagine, very well respected writters, professors, musicians and famous personalityes from Mexico and the rest of the world, every number take a different subject, music, literature, photography..., La Tempestad style its delightfully literary and its format have a remarkably quality.
