5-0 out of 5 stars Zoobooks
My 6 year old son loved this magazine. His eyes would light up whenever the magazine would arrive in the mail. The colorful photographs and fun facts about lots of types of animals made the magazine fun to read for both he and I.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zoobooks is the Encyclopedia of Animals
An easy to read format for the budding animal enthusiast with activities for subscribers online and inside the middle section of the magazine.
5-0 out of 5 stars A treasure to keep
I hope this magazine hasn't changed from when I got it as a child 20 years or so ago, because I dearly loved it then. It's not so much a magazine, with different articles and recurring features, as a vividly illustrated report on a different group of animals each month. (I wore out the binding on my "Alligators and Crocodiles" issue.) The beautiful drawings are both fun to look at and packed with information -- when I was taking biology courses in college I realized my old Zoobooks spreads of, say, "all the parrots of the world" had given me an intuitive grasp of comparative adaptation without my realizing I was learning anything.Be warned -- if you get this for your child, you may have to listen to all of the things she has learned about monkeys for months at a time! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it for a Marine Fishkeeper
First the positive. This magazine is well laid-out and has good photography for the most part. The articles are informative. There are enough reviews on here extolling the virtues of this magazine, so let me tell you the downside.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Aquarium Hobby Magazine
I have been reading TFH for about thirty years, and it is by far the most comprehensive magazine resource for the advanced hobbyist. It costs a little more than the others, but it attracts the best authors and the photography is stunning. The editors take a more scientific slant than that offered in the two other popular Aquarium magazines, and though I subscribe to all three, TFH captures most of my attention. If you are a serious aquarium keeper, or want to become one, you have to check out this fine magazine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine
This magazine is no doubt the best aquarium magazine in the world.not only does it have clear and understandable information for the beggining and advanced hobbyist, but it's articles cover brand new things, aquarium news, fish profiles, that no other can match. For this reason, i humbly reccomend tropical fish hobbyist. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a Magazine. It's a tradition!
Sky & Telescope has been with us in its present form since 1941.It is part of the history and the fabric of amateur astronomy and, in my opinion, it is better than ever.We are privileged to be living in a golden age of astronomical discovery and you can share in this great adventure.Subscribe to Sky & Telescope and you become more than just an observer, you become a participant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good magazine
Since I was 5 I always had an interest for astronomy. I started reading books about astronomywhen I was 8. Last year on my birthday, My dad got me a this subscription to sky and telescope. I have also glanced through Astronomy, and have done the best to my abilities to write the pro's and cons
5-0 out of 5 stars A good and ambitious magazine
A magnificent magazine full of breathtaking photos and quality articles. Offers great advice for the hobbyiest. Not only does it keep one abreast of space science I think EVERYONE will find ithighly inspirational. The articles that take on more technical topics in astronomy and Cosmology sometimes leave one wanting but those wanting more accurate and detailed information on these topics are guided by the magazine to other sources. The magazine walks a tightrope and more often than not it is successful.

4-0 out of 5 stars "lost its compost" for a while but slowly getting back to nature
Somehow, the Mother became more like something else... Sunset? I dunno, but it really lost its way from the down-to-earth, get-down-in-the-dirt, raise-chickens-in-your-backyard-&-fertilize-with-the-rest viewpoint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest Popular Magazine on Natural History
"Natural History" is the official popular journal published by the American Museum of Natural History, the oldest - and largest - museum of natural history in the Western Hemisphere and without question, one of the world's greatest museums. In its pages it has featured brilliant essays by the likes of Roy Chapman Andrews, Margaret Mead, and Stephen Jay Gould, to name but a few of the many eminent scientists - both museum staff and outsiders - who have contributed superb articles on natural history to this magazine. It has retained an emphasis on scientific discovery, publishing articles pertaining to ecology and other aspects of evolutionary biology (including paleobiology), geology, astrophysics, archaeology and anthropology. Recent issues have included brief articles on biomechanics of various living organisms, those pertaining to recent and current exhibitions such as the Petra exhibition on display at the museum from the Fall of 2003 to early Summer 2004, and current ecological and anthropological research. Current museum scientists, most notably Neil deGrasse Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium, often report in these pages on their ongoing research as well as on issues of a more general nature that might interest a scientifically-literate public. And to its credit, it has not shied away from controversy, publishing for example, an issue on so-called "Intelligent Design", which is seen by its adherents as a competing scientific alternative to evolution via Natural Selection, but lacks any scientific credibility from professional scientists, science educators and like-minded members of the general public.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Bull, no sissy GQ type workout, no Girly men
Sorry, if you are looking for fitness models, look at mens fitness or the "new" format of Muscle and Fitness "the GQ of Fitness magazines".
5-0 out of 5 stars Straight talk without the politics
I first started reading MD in 2003 while deployed in support of OIF 1 in Kuwait. I have to admit that my reason for choosing it over Flex, was that MD used to have the fitness girl pictorials (damn I wish that they would bring them back!). Anyhow, I also read Flex every month, but the thing that puts MD on top, is that readers get the word directly from the athletes. In the other mags, it seems that the athletes' words get "edited" prior to the issue going to print. If I want to know who won the latest contest and how they got into shape, MD covers it. On the other hand if I want to know what the lifetstyle outside the gym is like for an athlete, MD covers it. From Victor Martinez's time in jail to Dexter Jackson's family sacrifices enroute to becoming a star, to Lee Preist's staight up comments about the Olympia (though he had to make an appology later to the commision), MD covers it all. The thing that I respect the most about MD though, is that it pulls no puncheas in giving the real scoop on steroids. Not lony does the magazine discuss the negatives of using "gear", but it also talks about the positve side of steroid use for some people, along with comments from some athletes who will admit to using at one time or another. You WILL NOT find that in any other fitness magazine. Take all that and combine it with great photography and you got yourself a heck of a fitness magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a top muscle magazine
I'm subscribed to several bodybuilding magazines, and this one, along with FLEX, are the best magazines that I've found to date. The small writeups in the front parts of the magazine are very informative and there are useful articles instead of junk everywhere like magazines such as MuscleMag. ... It is very difficult to find magazines that teach a Creation view. This is an excellently done magazine. My kids love it! Ages 3-12

5-0 out of 5 stars Nature Friend Magazine- Great Zine for Christian Kids
I really like this magazine.I just received our first copy yesterday and am looking forward to future issues. This magazine was recommended to me through my Catholic homeschool curriculum provider as a supplement to the science lessons. What I really appreciate about it is that there are no advertisements included in it.I find it interesting to note that the readers of this 'zine seem to be as young as 7 or 8 and go up to age 14 or so.So, I know that I can use it with my sons for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this magazine!
Nature Friend is an incredible magazine! It is difficult for fundamental Christians to find periodical materials for children that uphold our beliefs.Nature Friend does just that.It is a Creationist magazine with plenty of scientific information about nature, written for a child's level of understanding. My daughter especially loves all the input from children her age, such as letters to the editor, drawings that children have submitted, and articles and poems written by children. There are plenty of activities in each issue as well. Both my daughter and I love the "how to draw ____" page! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Re-discovered
I was getting this magazine up untill 5 yrs ago when I started travel nursing. I settled down again with a new home and garden and hoped I would get a circular in the mail as I could not remember the name of the magazine, but it took the internet to find it. I loved it because it was about everyday people with the kind of stories, tips etc. that I could relate to. Not all huge mansions with acres and acres of land, and people, who like to get out and potter,to make mistakes (and learn from them) and to get out there and enjoy getting their hands dirty, plant seeds and flowers and enjoy the wonders of nature through the birds, insects and other creatures that come to a garden. I would read it from cover to cover and not feel cheated because I have had to pay for a magazine with 75% advertisments. Why should we pay to read adverts? Anyway so glad I have found it again and can't wait for my first issue to arrive. I do hope it has'nt changed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A FUN birding and flower magazine
I have been a subscriber to Birds & Blooms for over 2 years now. Each issue is loaded with beautiful photographs of different types of birds and a variety of colorful flowers. The magazine is supported heavily by contributions of its readership as many "personal" stories and pictures are published. Each issue typically has one article that focuses on a particular bird (cardinal, chickadee, etc), and then others that discuss butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, etc. There are 6 issues per year, but they also have Birds & Blooms EXTRA to fill the off months (which I also subscribe to)!Great magazine to read and relax with!

5-0 out of 5 stars What I Think About Birds & Blooms
I've been subscribing for a long time, and, because of my love of birds, flowers, and butterflies (yes, the magazine does talk a bit of butterflies), I've gotten quite into it, too.I like the mixture:Funny stories, garden and bird tips and how-to's,and MUCH more...

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't enjoy a magazine that doesn't come...
I ordered this magazine as a Christmas present in mid-December. In February it still had not arrived. I contacted Amazon to determine the status of the order and was told that they needed to "look into the matter further," they asked me to wait another 7 business days. After 8 business days I still hadn't heard anything, so I contacted them again... and this time they told me that even though I had paid for my order in full that my subscription was rejected and that I'd get a refund in the next couple of weeks. Absolutely absurd... I don't even want to know what would have happened had I not taken some initiative.

4-0 out of 5 stars Geared towards any type of physicist
This is the official magazine of the American Institute of Physics. Members of the society get this by default. Hence, given that the audience is mostly physicists, the level of technical detail in most articles assumes an undergraduate degree in physics. More specialised than Scientific American.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The photos alone are worth the subscription!
The articles are always well-written and very informative, but I love this magazine most of all because of the fabulous photographs that appear cover-to-cover.I frequently cut out the pics after finishing the issue and cover my office's cubicle walls with them -- the wonderful colors of the scenery and the fascinating close-ups of birds and other wildlife just leave me breathless!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Audubon is Great
This magazine is not only informative but also entertaining. I am so happy I decided to subscribe. The price is inexpensive and for all you nature lovers, you must have this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sandhill Cranes stay mainly on the Plains
You can buy a subscription to the bimonthly "Audubon" magazine, but the best way to get it is as a benefit derived from joining the National Audubon Society (currently $35/year).Conservation is a central theme of this magazine, but it also has lots of gorgeous photographs of sandhill cranes, snowflakes, caribou, and everything else that you might expect from a nature magazine, although the articles tend toward pessimism ('grim realism' some might say.)

5-0 out of 5 stars A cover-to-cover read when it finally arrives
"Thoroughbred Times" is my favorite of the two Thoroughbred weeklies to which I subscribe (the other is "Blood Horse") in spite of its unwieldy size, and in spite of the fact that my issues always arrive one to three weeks late.I don't know if this means someone at the Post Office is reading them first, or whether the Post Office has problems with the size of this magazine (14.5"x 11").At any rate, the 'Times' is worth waiting for.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Magazine
The Blood Horse is an absolute must for race horse fans. The coverage of all major stake and prep races is beyond compare. The photography is wonderful!I especially like the coverage of all the breeders cup and triple crown races. The extras included with the subscription are a plus, such as the book of sires that is published once a year with stud fees and progency. Every issue has a feature articule that covers a different aspect of racing. The best $90 you will ever spend on a magazine subscription.A must if you own or are thinking of owning a race horse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Weekly International Thoroughbred Breeding/Racing info
"The Blood-Horse" covers more international racing news than its weekly rival, "Thoroughbred Times," but usually only the group 1 races in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and Dubai. There would be no South American coverage at all if trainer Ron McAnally didn't take the occasional trip down south and skim off the cream of the crop, e.g. Candy Ride and Pasaena, and return triumphant to California.5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Magazine for a Horse Racing Fan
For living in a state where finding someone who enjoys horse racing as much as I do is about as easy as trying to find a needle in a haystack. This magazine has helped me stay in touch with racing around the country. It tells me the results of each weeks races, and makes it easy to follow a horse and trainer.I have attempted to read The Thoroughbred Times on a few occassions, and perhaps its just the size of the magazine which has kept me from ever fully reading an issue. However, every issue of The Blood-Horse I can get my hands on, I have read cover to cover. ...
