5-0 out of 5 stars A very, very invigorating magazine..
I am a IT prof. Thus, I subscribed to this mag.; only with the perspective to gain a "little" insight into the working of the brain, instead of having to go through tons of myraid med. literature. What I was pleasantly surprised with and I really mean it - is this editorial board's ability to present even day-to-day matter which even "might" concern some neural science in such a lovely and beautiful manner; that even my wife (who's just a plain house-wife) loves to read. The subject matter discussed IN NO WAY can be considered to be MEDICAL, but rather a CRITICAL APPRECIATION AND DISCUSSION of every-day issues and stuff we notice around each each day. The amount of advertisement is bare minimum ; quality of print is excellent ; the writings are terrific. ONE OF THE BEST MAGAZINES TO HAVE on SHELF. (Proof - my sister's 16-yr. old came to visit me. She's BUILT on video-games, Skype/AOL chat and MS Civilization III. She opened this mag., started to read it and finished the 4 issues I had till midnight!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Engaging
This is my favorite magazine about the mind, particularly with respect to consciousness. It's like a meeting of the minds (no pun intended) between spiritual phenomena and scientific discovery. The articles are seriously interesting and always have a new twist. I do wish it was printed more frequently however it is worth the wait for each issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite magazine
This is the best magazine I've read lately. It is still new, and I've only received 4 issues, but read each cover to cover, finding each article fascinating, and very accessible (unlike the parent publication, which is occasionally over my head.)It may be just because I like the subject matter - but it seems to me these are subjects which would interest most people. Some recent articles (as of Oct. 2005) included why we lie, the meaning of dreams, the nature of consciousness, what causes creativitity, what is deja vu.It is one subscription which is well worth the money. The only drawback I've found is that it is quarterly - sometimes it seems like a long wait between issues. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finest Popular Magazine on Natural History
"Natural History" is the official popular journal published by the American Museum of Natural History, the oldest - and largest - museum of natural history in the Western Hemisphere and without question, one of the world's greatest museums. In its pages it has featured brilliant essays by the likes of Roy Chapman Andrews, Margaret Mead, and Stephen Jay Gould, to name but a few of the many eminent scientists - both museum staff and outsiders - who have contributed superb articles on natural history to this magazine. It has retained an emphasis on scientific discovery, publishing articles pertaining to ecology and other aspects of evolutionary biology (including paleobiology), geology, astrophysics, archaeology and anthropology. Recent issues have included brief articles on biomechanics of various living organisms, those pertaining to recent and current exhibitions such as the Petra exhibition on display at the museum from the Fall of 2003 to early Summer 2004, and current ecological and anthropological research. Current museum scientists, most notably Neil deGrasse Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium, often report in these pages on their ongoing research as well as on issues of a more general nature that might interest a scientifically-literate public. And to its credit, it has not shied away from controversy, publishing for example, an issue on so-called "Intelligent Design", which is seen by its adherents as a competing scientific alternative to evolution via Natural Selection, but lacks any scientific credibility from professional scientists, science educators and like-minded members of the general public.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Bull, no sissy GQ type workout, no Girly men
Sorry, if you are looking for fitness models, look at mens fitness or the "new" format of Muscle and Fitness "the GQ of Fitness magazines".
5-0 out of 5 stars Straight talk without the politics
I first started reading MD in 2003 while deployed in support of OIF 1 in Kuwait. I have to admit that my reason for choosing it over Flex, was that MD used to have the fitness girl pictorials (damn I wish that they would bring them back!). Anyhow, I also read Flex every month, but the thing that puts MD on top, is that readers get the word directly from the athletes. In the other mags, it seems that the athletes' words get "edited" prior to the issue going to print. If I want to know who won the latest contest and how they got into shape, MD covers it. On the other hand if I want to know what the lifetstyle outside the gym is like for an athlete, MD covers it. From Victor Martinez's time in jail to Dexter Jackson's family sacrifices enroute to becoming a star, to Lee Preist's staight up comments about the Olympia (though he had to make an appology later to the commision), MD covers it all. The thing that I respect the most about MD though, is that it pulls no puncheas in giving the real scoop on steroids. Not lony does the magazine discuss the negatives of using "gear", but it also talks about the positve side of steroid use for some people, along with comments from some athletes who will admit to using at one time or another. You WILL NOT find that in any other fitness magazine. Take all that and combine it with great photography and you got yourself a heck of a fitness magazine!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a top muscle magazine
I'm subscribed to several bodybuilding magazines, and this one, along with FLEX, are the best magazines that I've found to date. The small writeups in the front parts of the magazine are very informative and there are useful articles instead of junk everywhere like magazines such as MuscleMag. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Environmental Buffs!
This is currently my favorite magazine in print. It provides essential information about what the world is experiencing ecologically, environmentally, biologically, etc.I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about international news, policy, sustainability, science breakthroughs in the environmental realm and much more. The price is high, but it is based out of the UK so it has to come quite a distance! Really though, it's not only great reading but as a reference as well. So in conclusion, it's worth the price for an amazing source of info. and news! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photography, solid writing
I was recently introduced to "Northern Woodlands" by a friend of mine, and I'm quite impressed with the magazine. Not only is the photography stunning, but the content is of high quality.I particularly like that it isn't purely a conservationist's soapbox, but they offer information on forest value and management as well.I'm not a forester, but still enjoy this magazine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An ambitious review
I find this review quite ambitious. It provides a good number of information and includes articles of a very different nature, written by well-known politicians, such as the President of the European Parliament or the current European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, as well as academics and journalists of high level.
5-0 out of 5 stars In depth analysis of international affairs
This is a little known bi-monthly magazine, which is published in Italy by a former mayor of Venice. It features articles that analysze the deeper issues behind the major international events in a manner that combines academic rigor with a more journalistic style. The list of contributors varies tremendously and it includes emerging specialists from a number of countries and famous international figures at the heart of the events they describe. As an Italian based magazine, it almost always has an article by a key parliamentary or intellectual figure. The leader of the house, Pier Ferdinando Casini and the very famous philosopher and mayor of Venice Massimo Cacciari have contributed frequently, as have President Putin of Russia and his Foreign Minister Ivanov. the magazine started by presenting articles that focused mainly on the emerging states of Central Asia, almost as a 'romantic' throwback to the age when Venice was an important commercial Republic with strong ties to the Orient. In fact, the publication is related to another magazine called Marco Polo, which focuses on the individual leaders of the countries it studies. In recent years, Acque & Terre (Seas and Lands) has expanded its coverage to the wider Middle East region and the important events with global repercussions such as the election of Lula in Brazil or the war in Iraq. Overall, it's very informative and original, definitely worth reading and the subscription cost. ... Read more
