5-0 out of 5 stars clearly written and substantive
Having given a look at all the American magazines on the market which, over time, rehash the same things over and over in a dumbed down way, I was given a copy of Practical PHotography. It blows the competition out of the water for substance and style.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good techical and gear overview
Good magazine if you like to do equipment comparisons and film comparisons. As well there is photo tips that are practical and intresting.1-0 out of 5 stars Use to be the best, now it's at the bottom.
Throughout the 90's, this was THE best photography magazine on the planet.I probably have every issue from the 90's and for many years had a subscription.I practically learned photography through this mag. However, since the calendar turned to the 2000's, this magazine has slipped considerably, almost off the face of the photographic scene.I dropped my subscription, and now I am lucky if I buy one issue a year if something I see in it catches my eye at the newstand.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting cover to cover.
What I like about this magazine is that the articles are unique and informative.I have bought the last three issues and can't wait for the next one. This magazine covers equipment in a current mode rather than a 6 months to a year behind style so familiar with many of the other photography magazines.
2-0 out of 5 stars Wannabe Pro Photo Magazine
I purchaced this magazine thinking that it would be the next step from the amateur photo magazine level to the serious pro level. In fact, it is not really either.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better digital photography magazines
Even though there seem to be hundreds of different digital photography magazines on the newsstand every month, Digital Photo Pro is pretty much the only one that I buy.I don't buy every issue, but seeing as I end up buying about 80% of the issues, I should probably get a subscription!

3-0 out of 5 stars best general photo trade mag out there
Photo District News is the best general photography trade magazine currently being published. I like how they feature the work of up and coming photographers as well as interviewing key players in the advertising and design communities. It gives a wide view of the industry, outside of the usual technical reviews of equipment, which I find refreshing. The staff hasn't changed much over the years so I do wonder how fresh of a perspective the Sr. Staff has of the industry - but they have added some new columns to the magazine recently which gives me hope that the editorial team is not getting stale. 2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
As a practicing photographer and not a collector, I've been very disappointed with B&W on the few occasions it's crossed my desk (I've never had a subscription, so I'm basing this on just the few issues I've seen).
5-0 out of 5 stars B&W Best photo Magazine
This is by far the best photo magazine I have seen in my 40 years of being a photographer.(and I subscribe to half a dozen).
5-0 out of 5 stars nice
This past summer I picked up two issues of this magazine and they sat on my shelf for a few months before I finally got around to reading them. I was impressed. The quality of this magazine is higher than any other photographic magazine I've seen. The image quality, the paper, all top notch. This is a fine arts magazine and doesn't (at least from what I saw) spend time with articles about the technical side of the art. Rather, it focuses on individual artists and shows samples of their work. There are more great photographs in here than in any other photo magazine I've read. I intend on subscribing. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Come to This: What Does it Matter Anymore?
American Cinematographer can work for you or against you.I started a five year relationship that has recently ended. At the time about to attend film school, I needed all the help I could get to always be one-step ahead of everyone else.
5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any serious filmmaker
Whether you are a technical guru or someone who's emphasis is on the words, any serious filmmaker who takes his or her craft seriously will love American Cinematographer. The official magazine of the American Society of Cinematographers, this magazine gives you in depth interviews with DPs and Directors on the technical approach towards the shooting of the picture. They cover not just lab soups and lighting techniques, but also the approach to the script, design notes on how to visually approach the script - in other words, a great detailed overview of how this particular crew of filmmakers went about creating the visual language of the film. And not just film - as technology advances, and more films are shot on video, this magazine gives the same great coverage to those pictures as well - from Star Wars to Anniversary Party. While it's true that there are only so many films that AC can cover each issue but I think you'll end up feeling like I do - that I wish they could cover them all! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars really is the best
I love turing people on to this magazine, they always love it, like I do!5-0 out of 5 stars Showcasing Some of the Best in Nature Photography
Nature's Best is a quarterly magazine (4 issues per year) dedicated to showcasing the best in nature photography today. It's format is slightly larger than standard at9x11 inches. Each issue is around 100 pages in length with almost no advertising. In addition to subscriptions, the magazine is funded by a handful of corporate sponsors, who account for the only advertising in the magazine, and that only amounts to a few pages. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magazine - HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Yes - there are tons of great shots in the mag; great articles ( in French only ) , contests---very chic....HOWEVER---- customer service will treat you like the redheaded stepchild when you ask them " WHY HAVE YOU NOT SENT ME THE LATEST ISSUE OF PHOTO?? "....and you know it WILL HAPPEN. They only send you sporadic issues when THEY feel like it ( or so it would seem )... Most issues are available on the stand WEEKS before you get yours delivered via mail ( should it be the other way around??? ) And they wont give you a courtesy letter/postcard telling you when your subscription is up...that's for you to figure out. SO if you can deal with the lame french hold music when you call Photo's Cutomers Service CONSTANTLY, this is a great magazine..... cough...cough...vive la France!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great magazine if you can actually get them to deliver it
This is my favorite magazine in the universe and the only one to which I have ever subscribed. However, after this, my second subscription is over, I plan to call it quits. The magazine never gets delivered unless I send several angry e-mails every month reminding them and demanding delivery. When the issues come they are often 2-3 months behind. The current issue is over three weeks late and who knows when and if I will ever see it. In the end, although this is a brilliant publication, it simply isn't worth the headache. Photo, if you're out there, please forward me the June issue.... and while you're at it get a head start on July and August and maybe they'll make it on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful!
American photography could only WISH they knew what real photography is.

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic
This is perhaps my favorite Photography magazine. The printing is fantastic as is the subject matter. I really like the fact there are no ads in it at all. So many photography mags are just an extended catalog for B&H or Adorama that this is a breath of fresh air.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Photography Magazine
There's a lot to like about Lenswork - the selection of images, the quality of the printing, Bill Jay's "End Notes" - but the thing I like the most is that there is almost no discussion of equipment.Brooks Jensen (the editor/publisher) doesn't appear to care what camera you used to make a photograph, or how many miles through a raging blizzard you hiked to make it.All that matters is the image. And after you've finished looking at the images, you'll find a lot of wisdom and practical information packed into each issue, too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great shots!
This is a 'small' magazine in size but large in terms of inspiration. The photographs and the stories are not so much focused on technique but more on the artistic values and philosophy of photography. Each issue includes an interview with an artist as well as one or more sets of photographs. The publishers are deeply involved in photography and often contribute their own images. Like good art, the photographs show that good photographers can turn ordinary objects into interesting subjects. Hence, the inspirational value of the publication.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Photographer Magazine
The review of new photo products are excellent. Well written in my opinion. Highly recommend this magazine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of digital technology (but tape delayed)
Print magazines are behind current news by about 3-4 months. The websites have news about new digital cameras instantenously. The print magazines are destined to be 3-4 months behind. If you are looking for the latest news, you will get them tape-delayed if you only read magazines.

4-0 out of 5 stars Spared the ads!
I regularly peruse the photo magazines at my local Books-a-Million. I recently saw this magazine appear among the usual host of magazines, and, being an Anglophile, thought I would give it a try. I must first mention the absence of such large quantities of advertising as to render the articles well-concealed and almost superfluous, a characteristic of all American photo magazines. Secondly, the photos presented in this magazine seem far more nuanced and less perfunctory than what I am accustomed to in the mainstream Americanmagazines. Please, spare me one more "western desert sunset through an arch of rock with Fuji Velvia" photo! I particularly like the monthly "Judgement" feature where two photographers, Cheung and Scorey, dissect, frequently with humor and without mercy, photographs submitted by readers. I learn from this! Expensive, but eminently worth every cent/ shilling!

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Photo Mag
I have a subscription to Popular Photography and get a few other magazines every once in a while but Photography Monthly is by FAR the best one out of the bunch! I have to go downtown to get this magazine but I will make excuses a couple times a month just to go see if its at the bookstore!
5-0 out of 5 stars THE best Photo Mag yet!!!
Hands down the best photo mag I have ever had the pleasure of reading...WELL worth the money! It is the only magazine that I have read cover to cover...every time!Get it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Outstanding
Most photo magazines handle analog and digital photography as separate entities. This magazine is the perfect bridge between the two media. Besides that, its articles are very insightful, with a more artistic and professional tone than most photo magazines, but without falling into a snobbish attitude. Furthermore, they avoid that commercial point of view that hampers a good photo magazine. The only thing I regret is the lack of technical information about the pictures they show. Anyway, each issue is a pleasure to read. ... Read more
