5-0 out of 5 stars HELP!
Hi! My father is an avid reader of this magazine, but due to an accident that was my fault, his September/October issue was lost. I feel TERRIBLE and am looking to replace it. If anyone has this issue, please contact me, I would love to buy it from you and will pay top dollar. Thanks so much!
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!Man stuff without the smut!
A guy can't walk through the magazine aisle at the department or grocery store without being visually bombarded with sensual images of airbrushed models screaming "TOP TEN SEX SECRETS!" or some similarly tantilizing headline. With great gratitude I can thank New Man Magazine for allowing me to leave the eye-popping magazine racks behind.4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
People new to this magazine might be put off by some of the articles. However, this is a magazine about Christian men and their issues. A recommendation is to read "Old Man, New Man" by Stephen Strang. The issue is full of helpful content, so coming out every two months is not so bad. However, some of the doctrinal issues are pushed rather heavily, not all of which I agree with (mostly charismatic issues). On the other hand, the chest-thumping is very minor and downplayed for other activities, which is good. Some of the bandwagon mentality remains, but there is much helpful advice (we do not want to throw out the baby with the bathwater). There are articles from some very good and respected writers, as well "classics" from quite a while ago that still remains true today. All in all, a magazine worth checking out for Christian men. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just what you are looking for
This newspaper has everything that a busy Catholic mom is looking for.It gives news blips from around the world, great general interest articles, sections on the culture of life, movie reviews, parenting and marriage advice and calendars for events in your region. It has everything that would normally take three newspapers worth of reading to find.Mine comes every Saturday morning, and is in the Church hall being recycled to other Catholics by Sunday morning. It is run by the LCs (which I think are an awesome order) but even what they report about themselves is unbiased and very factual in every way!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Rest of the Story
John Paul II was a name that made news, even to the point of Time-Life printing a special book about him (which was quite good). He was so popular that you'd think he was a US president so often did the news misquote him. The news, assuming that the millions of Catholics don't listen to the pope anyway, instead found that they don't give a fig what the news says about him. What they do care about is what the pope actually says (if only to have the chance to disagree), and are naturally dismayed when the paper is filled with reams of commentary on speeches they don't actually reprint.
1-0 out of 5 stars It's the Regnum Christi/Legion of Christ paper
Although this info is not made obvious, this newspaper is published by RC/Legion of Christ, an organizaton which is controversial among Catholics for various reasons. If you're looking for a general news Catholic publication, I suggest you keep looking. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great...where is it going?
I've enjoyed Tricycle for many years, but it does contain a lot of advertising, and I'm baffled when the publisher solicits donations to keep the magazine running.I'd rather see them fully embrace one form of revenue or the other. If they're not-for-profit, what's with all the slick ads?
5-0 out of 5 stars Dont have to be a Buddhist to love this magazine....
While I am not a Buddhist,(our son and friends are) I still love, appreciate and gain wisdom from this wonderful publication, which I was exposed to over a decade ago by Zen master Don Gilbert of Tracy, CA.And I was so excited, if that's the right word, when the new issue arrived, because two articles caught my eye.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lukewarm
I have read 'Moment' occasionally over many years, and this in the hope of enriching my knowledge of the Jewish world. There have been articles and features which I have found useful. But on the whole the Magazine does not seem to me to be in a class with 'Commentary' or even 'Midstream'. I would say my reaction to it has been by and large lukewarm. I also believe it could be much more forthright and positive in regard to Israel.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite magazines
"Moment" is an excellent magazine. It discusses many various issues that concern the modern Jew; politics, culture and -- of course -- religion.Often the magazine will discuss controversial issues (with reader imput) so you can get the "scoop" on the latest debates.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I really enjoy America Magazine.I just finished my first year at a Jesuit university.I participate actively in Campus Ministry and also advocate social justice initiatives.Often, I lack the time to keep up with the news, and rarely hear about less publicized social issues around the world.America really analyzes the world situation and presents on social issues both domestic and abroad.Additionally, the magazine speaks to current Catholic issues, including liturgy, beliefs, current events, literature, vocations, and upcoming Sunday readings.A family friend gave me a subscription as a high school graduation present. With no doubt in my mind, this is the best magazine I have ever subscribed to.Even if you are not Catholic, the magazine offers fantastic articles on world news and social issues. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars better than Brio
This magazine is for teens and christians in college, its aimed for both sexes and its much well rounded for teens. They tackle somewhat serious subjects but very carefully. What I liked best about this magazine was their interviews and christian celebrity articles, where the celebrity talked about their walk with God. They have an advice article and more meaty articles within its pages. I grew out of this magazine by the end of my college years when I also decided that organized religion wasn't for me, although God is. It also felt a little too juvenile for me when I was in college dealing with certain things, I found Glamour more realistic to the things that young women face. Even young college women. I think Campus Life is more for teens than college age students. I'm happy with the choice that I made and if there was one magazine that even got me through some tough times as a young christian growing up in the church it was Campus Life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Campus Life
I am very happy with the magazine. It is the quality I expected and arrived earlier than expected. The only suggestion would be to send it in a protective cover or something as it arrived quite wrinkled through the mail.
5-0 out of 5 stars For All Christian Teens
Campus Life is really cool. I recomend it to every Christian Teen. Campus Life has really cool articles on how to live out your faith, interviews with todays Top Christian Artists and much more! Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars got local news?
The CSM is rightly respected for its international news coverage.I get the NYTimes in the office but read the Monitor at home because it gives me insights I just don't get in the big-boy papers. But what most people don't realize is that it's an incredibly good resource for ideas that can be applied at the local level.Their reporters have a knack for finding out what's working in everything from rural environmental protection to urban business trends, and I've sent articles or copies of the paper to politicians, ministers and priests, school teachers, corrections officers, business owners, and just plain neighbors--because the ideas or program or approach to problem-solving that worked somewhere in Oregon or Ottawa could work in my locality.A highly recommended news source.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's notwhatyou think
My father is a printer for a Boston Newpaper and brought some home.Being an athiest, at first I was skeptical of the paper. After prodding from him, I read the articles. The paper is wonderful. The articles are totally unbiased.(There is a religious section for those interested.)There are interesting stories from around the world and remarkable journalism throughout.Very enjoyable reading!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Publication
WOW.This is a great magazine. Until I recieved it I didn't realize it was a Catholic Company. No Wonder why many of our faithful Non-Catholic brothers and sisters first got turned off.The ORIGINAL 7 books of the Old Testament (no they were not put in recently by the Catholic Church) have always been in the Bible that our Church Fathers assembled. Even Jesus read these books. It was the reformation that took the 7 Old Testament books out and renamed it the Apocropha. This is a serious publication. Please read it in the way you love your Church (no matter what denomination)and you'll see the Catholic Church and it's people are just like you.5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Bible study groups or for self study
If you have desired to read through the entire or most parts of the Bible but did not know where to begin or how to understand the cryptic passages, then this magazine is for you.Besides being a motivative guide to the Bible, each issue has prefix and postfix commentation from the author which gives you an overview of the month's reading and the author's interpretation.Nonetheless, I believe laymen would find most appealing about God's Word Today is how the author usually surrounds the reading with historical background to help us better comprehend its meaning as the passage was originally intended to be interpreted.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Catholic Publication
I wanted a publication that featured daily readings that were linked to specific Bible passages.I nearly found what I was looking for, though I didn't realize that it was a Catholic publication at the time I purchased a subscription. So be warned that unless you have a Bible with Apocrypha or a Catholic Bible, there may be some issues with sections which you will be unable to read the selected Bible passages. Not disgraceful (as another reviewer put it), but something that one may want to consider prior to purchasing a subscription. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Though Not Too Intense, It's Still A Good Read
After reading the heavy, intense works of apologetics like Scott Hahn and Karl Keating, not to mention intelligent and theologically strong writers such as Patrick Madrid, "Catholic Digest" is a nice step to the lighter side.Yes, I'll admit that "Catholic Digest" doesn't have the hardest hitting articles nor does it always make the reader think much, but it's nice to read a warm, fuzzy story sometimes.
1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudo-Catholic magazine
Having just subscribed to 12 issues of Catholic Digest, and having just browsed through a free copy, I am truly disappointed. This magazine is not the same magazine that I had subscribed to years ago and that it is not a truly Catholic magazine. As a number of other reviewers have pointed out here, and as some writers to the Editor have pointed out, the Catholic Digest has changed! The articles in this magazine have strayed away from the official doctrines of the church. Dissident writers like Andrew Greeley, sj, who have openly disagreed with the Holy See, have columns there. Although Pope JPII died on 3 April this year, the May issue of Catholic Digest made not a single mention about the pope. (Only the June issue started having articles on JPII.) Instead, the cover story in the May issue is about parishes that are being run by women but "women can't be ordained" and "lay people were complaining that clergy in the Church are all-powerful" (?!).
1-0 out of 5 stars Manger Mafiosi
The Digest's cartoon in the December issue would be inappropriate in any magazine but in a Catholic magazine it borders on disgusting and blasphemous!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Shaman's Drum
This is a great publication.I read it cover to cover the day I got it.The articles were very informative and I learned a bit about other cultures, their beliefs, and their practices.I enjoyed the articles that gave the authors' personal experiences as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Shamanic magazine around
I have been a dedicated reader of this magazine for several years. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the articles and thought provoking material. This is NOT A "NEW AGE" magazine! It is for those who are interested in "core shamanism" and rituals by indigenous people(s). It would also be of interest to those who are into anthropology. Most of the articles are written from experiences gathered from time spent with native healers from around the world in their native environment (amazon jungle, mexico,etc.). Lots of information/journeys with psychotropic plant medicines. Anyone with an interest/background in shamanism (harner method or otherwise) will get a great deal out of this publication. ...
