5-0 out of 5 stars Catholics In Step
This Magazine is an absolute must for Catholics, or anyone, needing to know what is going on in the world. The Catholic World Report is just what the name implies, a report of news around the world effecting human rights to live and worship freely. You will find interesting editorials, essays, and of course the latest in news from around the world. My favorite is the "World Watch" which is a brief report on each country. It is broken down alphabetically so you can easily find the country you are most interested in. You will also find a "Follow Up" to keep up on the new developments of featured stories. What happens to the rest of the world really does affect each one of us and this magazine is loaded with the information we need. I read each magazine front to back and then save it for later reference. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed-Bag
I cancelled my subscription due to the fact that while they do a unique and rather good job in discussing many spiritual issues, they failed to perform decently in two areas: 1) politics and 2) free will. Politically, they displayed in one issue a total lack of political discernment by swallowing anti-Israel, Arab propaganda and disseminating it. On the topic of free will in one edition, the topic was obviously biased against determinism and the discussion was unutterably shallow compared to even basic philosophical study in this subject. Spiritual breadth requires rational discernment instead of simply following the leftist, Boulderish, wooly, ideology so prevailant these days. Overall, not a bad magazine but be discerning when you read it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Am disappointed ... to self centered
It's the sub title 'redefining spirituality for an evolving world' that got my attentionboth because the magazine has little to do with an evolving world in my opinion than it does with encouraging people to think about themselves to much. Loads of ads, and little that will appeal to the person who thinks beyond themselves.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Profound Contribution
This magazine is not only an incredible guide to higher states of consciouness, but it also a place where this fascinating subject gets looked at from multiple perspectives. This is for those souls looking for answers to the most important questions of life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Free Inquiring minds want to know...
"Free Inquiry" is published bi-monthly by the Council for Secular Humanism, a nonprofit group dedicated to ushering in a "new enlightenment," which is a worldview that's based on rationality, science and good old fashioned learning. They contend that one can live a good, "moral" life without religion or other superstitions, so if you're a regular churchgoin' person, this is definitely not the magazine for you. Then again, maybe this is precisely the magazine for you if you're the type of regular churchgoin' person who wants the laws of the country to conform to whatever you think your god of choice is telling you they should be this week.If the concept of seperation of church and state is highly problematic for you, then you definitely need to be reading "Free Inquiry" from cover to cover--one might even say religiously! For those of us who are already hellbound heathens, FI is that friend that comes in your mailbox to tell you that no, you are not alone.Unlike an actual church, one doesn't need to agree with all its teachings, and in fact a variety of opinions are welcome.
5-0 out of 5 stars The antidote to the irrationality that is religion
Produced by the Council for Secular Humanism, Free Inquiry's mission statement is "to promote and nurture the good life - life guided by reason and science, freed from the dogmas of god and state, inspired by compassion for fellow humans, and driven by the ideals of human freedom, happiness, and understanding."
5-0 out of 5 stars An intellectual's publication
Intelligent, insightful, and often witty. This is a great publication for those interested in thoughtful discussions of socio-political philosophy, as well as for those who want to learn more about secular humanism, humanist morality, and the often political nature of religion in American society and beyond.

2-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is
As others have said, the best thing about "Charisma" is its news section and its reportage of religious persecution and political issues. They do a decent job there. However, it typically takes a pop "People" magazine approach and tone with the rest of its material. The Bible teaching, what little there is of it, is generally shallow and designed to sell magazines, stroke readers, or stir controversy.
2-0 out of 5 stars Mouthpiece for the modern charismatic renewal
Charisma is a good source for news of the latest goings-on in the world of the contemporary charismatic movement. If you want to know what the televangelists are up to, where the latest revival is breaking out, or in what exciting and exotic ways the Holy Spirit is being manifested in this place or that, Charisma magazine is the place to look. Its usefulness pretty much ends there.4-0 out of 5 stars Prophetic and Comercial
Charisma and its sister publication Ministries Today have taken a refreshingly prophetic tack in their editorials and their story selection.I have been pleasantly suprised to see issues such as interracial marriage, women in ministry, spiritual abuse by pastors taken on. Sexual sin, fiscal irregularity, and heresy have also been highlighted.Charisa is the most diverse popular Chrisitan magazine that I have seen.Unlike most, it does not ignore the existence of a large Christian movement in the African American community.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lifeline for artists and art-lovers of faith.
This quarterly features fiction, essays, poetry, and visual art that comments directly or indirectly on the life of faith in the Judeo-Christian tradition.Editor Gregory Wolfe bases the vision for Image on what he calls religious humanism---a way of seeing the world that is "an attempt to balance the human and the divine."In its pages you will find works by artists and writers at the highest level of craft, along with interviews, reviews, and social commentary. You will not find accolades for the "Left Behind" books, ads for Christian romance novels, nor order forms for Thomas Kinkade prints.Image is a place where intellect and faith live harmoniously rather than in suspicion, and the sentimentality of the popular Christian subculture is challenged.I'm always proud to have the latest issue on my coffee table and frequently loan out my back issues to share a poem, story, article, or picture that has particularly stirred me.There is also a Web site for the journal and bi-weekly e-mail newsletter with additional content.Image gives a home to those whose concern for beauty, intellect, and honest portrayals of the human condition have made it a struggle to feel understood by their faith community.Read more
