5-0 out of 5 stars Hey Fruitcake
Funny you rate all skeptical magazines below a 2.. But the real x-files a 5... keep your biases elsewhere, as your opinion is wrong(there is such thing as a wrong opinion) Your not a "Skeptic of the skeptical" your purely a cynic and nothing more. Stick to the bible and your conspiracy theories as they have no worth what so ever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good on analysis, lousy on tolerance
I enjoy science in its many forms and enjoy the Skeptical Inquirer for its thorough and logical explanation of "weird" events. While it takes the "fun" out of things like ghosts and UFOs,having the phenomena explained rationally is a treat in itself.Unfortunately I find the journal a little difficult to read at times. The intolerance of the beliefs of others gets a little difficult to take when it's so much in your face.Often the authors are condescending, sometimes outright insulting, with resepct to non-scientific points of view. There are times when they literally attack the individuals themselves instead of the ideas they propose. No matter how logical the discussion, it seems inappropriate for a journal whose purpose is the scientific explanation of events and phenomena to take such an emotional posture.Surely the attitude will do more harm than good, since those who sense that they are personally under attack will rise to their own defense and become even more entrenched in their beliefs.Instead of learning a new way of analyzing data and becoming less credulous, they will become even more resistant to a logical approach.Since some of the journal's own readership may be among these, the authors' risk losing the opportunity to teach and end up preaching to the choir of the convinced. What's the point? It seems to me that an entirely non-judgemental, just-the-facts approach would be in the best interests of the periodical and its readership.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Agers & Conspiracy Theorists, This One's for You!
Skeptical Inquirer has got to be, hands down, my absolute favorite periodical (Free Inquiry comes in a close second).Produced by the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), the magazine aims to separate "fact from myth in the flood of occultism and pseudoscience on the scene today."Through scientific inquiry, scholarly research, and in-depth analysis, it succeeds (and with flair!).

5-0 out of 5 stars The photos alone are worth the subscription!
The articles are always well-written and very informative, but I love this magazine most of all because of the fabulous photographs that appear cover-to-cover.I frequently cut out the pics after finishing the issue and cover my office's cubicle walls with them -- the wonderful colors of the scenery and the fascinating close-ups of birds and other wildlife just leave me breathless!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Audubon is Great
This magazine is not only informative but also entertaining. I am so happy I decided to subscribe. The price is inexpensive and for all you nature lovers, you must have this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sandhill Cranes stay mainly on the Plains
You can buy a subscription to the bimonthly "Audubon" magazine, but the best way to get it is as a benefit derived from joining the National Audubon Society (currently $35/year).Conservation is a central theme of this magazine, but it also has lots of gorgeous photographs of sandhill cranes, snowflakes, caribou, and everything else that you might expect from a nature magazine, although the articles tend toward pessimism ('grim realism' some might say.)

4-0 out of 5 stars A Melancholy Look at Wildlife
National Wildlife has followed the trend taken by most other nature magazines in the past decade - the trend of pessimism.Mother Nature knows there are serious problems for wildlife associated with human society, but I need the occasional pleasant break to keep me out of the depressed state seemingly held by these magazine editors. As recently as ten years ago, National Wildlife and others ran detailed articles about the fasnicating lives of our wild neighbors.Since then, the magazines have gone from a nature documentary format to one of "bad news monthly."With our increasingly urbanized human population, this may be the only way to sustain interest in wildlife and their plights, but I fear it is turning some of us away. While I don't think National Wildlife should shy away from political and lifestyle issues, I do think they should lighten up a bit.The photographs are still beautiful, and the animals are still fascinating.I hope the NWF doesn't lose sight of why we became interested in wildlife in the first place. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A cover-to-cover read when it finally arrives
"Thoroughbred Times" is my favorite of the two Thoroughbred weeklies to which I subscribe (the other is "Blood Horse") in spite of its unwieldy size, and in spite of the fact that my issues always arrive one to three weeks late.I don't know if this means someone at the Post Office is reading them first, or whether the Post Office has problems with the size of this magazine (14.5"x 11").At any rate, the 'Times' is worth waiting for.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Benchmark to all magazines
As I become cynical and impatient in my old age (wait! I'm only 29!) I find less and less in all of the media outlets to be intelligent or interesting.Air & Space is a shining exception to that rule. They cover the full range as I know it, from recreational to military, commercial, and space. They always have a refreshing mix of biography, technical articles, reviews of books and such, and some great photographs that make me wish the printing material was of a higher quality. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars T3 = Looks dumb but is the smartest tech mag
"Wired" is another brand of this type of magazine but does not have a semi-naked woman on the cover every issue (hahaha). Basically inside T3 magazine you hope to find either one of three things.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This magazine is the best magazine I've EVER read! It'll inform you about just about ALL of the latest technology. If you want 400+ gadgets, electronics, and technology described (and a lot are rated out of 5 stars for: performance, value, and overall), THIS IS THE MAGAZINE FOR YOU! Just make sure you can read. (Popular Science is my second favorite magazine.) T3 magazine is Great!Woo-Hoo!

4-0 out of 5 stars THE Technology Enthusiast's Dreambook
If you are into all things digital, electronic, or simply wonder what magazine can help you gear up like James Bond, look no further my friend. T3 is a tad spendy on the subscription price because it is an import from the UK. This also affects readers in the US and Canadian markets because some of the products discussed aren't available in North America. However, by the same token, it allows the tech savvy to see what's shaping up overseas, and in many cases, what's on it's way to the States or Canada. Yet, due to inability to customize for the West (a large percent of it's profitable market) I give it a 4 instead of a 5. A sugguestion to those interested in this mag as a gift for someone else: try looking for Sony Style Magazine. It is along the very same lines but it's Sony product specefic (Sony is the very heart of modern consumer technologies). Sony Style can save those considering a mag subscription for a tech lover some serious bucks by skipping the import fees since it is pressed domestically in the US. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Magazine
The Blood Horse is an absolute must for race horse fans. The coverage of all major stake and prep races is beyond compare. The photography is wonderful!I especially like the coverage of all the breeders cup and triple crown races. The extras included with the subscription are a plus, such as the book of sires that is published once a year with stud fees and progency. Every issue has a feature articule that covers a different aspect of racing. The best $90 you will ever spend on a magazine subscription.A must if you own or are thinking of owning a race horse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Weekly International Thoroughbred Breeding/Racing info
"The Blood-Horse" covers more international racing news than its weekly rival, "Thoroughbred Times," but usually only the group 1 races in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and Dubai. There would be no South American coverage at all if trainer Ron McAnally didn't take the occasional trip down south and skim off the cream of the crop, e.g. Candy Ride and Pasaena, and return triumphant to California.5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Magazine for a Horse Racing Fan
For living in a state where finding someone who enjoys horse racing as much as I do is about as easy as trying to find a needle in a haystack. This magazine has helped me stay in touch with racing around the country. It tells me the results of each weeks races, and makes it easy to follow a horse and trainer.I have attempted to read The Thoroughbred Times on a few occassions, and perhaps its just the size of the magazine which has kept me from ever fully reading an issue. However, every issue of The Blood-Horse I can get my hands on, I have read cover to cover. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Killing Animals in Colorado"
I bought a subscription to this magazine out of excitement at our upcoming relocation to the Denver area.I was hoping I would get a magazine that celebrated all of CO's natural gifts thru essays and photography etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated & Informative
I really enjoy this magazine very much! The photographs are simply amazing, the articles are interesting & very well put together. It's nice to be able to see parts of Colorado in my own livingroom, & be able to decide where I'd like to venture to, rather than make a blind trip somewhere & be disappointed. The publisher also gives you the option of a free Hunting or Fishing guide to accompany your subscription. I can tell alot of time goes into the structure of this magazine. Kudos to the Publisher of this magazine! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Environmental Buffs!
This is currently my favorite magazine in print. It provides essential information about what the world is experiencing ecologically, environmentally, biologically, etc.I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about international news, policy, sustainability, science breakthroughs in the environmental realm and much more. The price is high, but it is based out of the UK so it has to come quite a distance! Really though, it's not only great reading but as a reference as well. So in conclusion, it's worth the price for an amazing source of info. and news! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good magazine about wild birds......
I don't know what distinguishes WILDBIRD from other periodicals about the subject, perhaps it is a `bird-of-the-month' approach, but I do find the articles and photographs, columns and "departments" interesting and informative. For example, the May/June issue of WB is promoted as the `15th Annual Hummingbird Issue' and includes a somewhat lengthy essay, "Beginner's Guide to Hummingbird ID by Sherri Williamson, co-founder of the SE Arizona Bird Observatory. Another article is entitled, "Hummingbird Helpers: How you can contribute to the study and aid of Hummingbirds".The latter is by Wildbird Advisory Board member Peter Strangel who coordinates bird conservation efforts for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in Atlanta, and who writesa recurring column for WB. A Hummingbird photo-essay by Ralph Paonessa is also included, as well as articles on backyard birds and birds in South America about - you guessed it - Hummingbirds.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wildbird
I liked the magazine because it stayed with the articles on the cover and more on different birds, from the habits, to locating birds, what they eat, nesting patterns, ect.My favorite part of the magazine was the Bird Jokes, Contests.Wonderfulmagazine with pictures for kids and adults, a treasure find for any bird lover. ... I have read Bird Times many times. The articles are much less complicated than the Bird Talk magazine articles, which are fairly simplistic as well.I recommend that you look at the cover and see if there are any articles that you want to read. This magazine usually takes me 15-20 minutes to read, and that is if there is an interesting article.Fewer ads than Bird Talk.
