5-0 out of 5 stars Longstanding, veritable classic!Incredible articles
What positives can one say about 'National Geographic' magazine that hasn't been said already.'NG' is an American institution that appeals to individuals with a thirst for multi-culturalism, science, and sociology. And the photography is stunning to say the least. It is often said that 'the best education' is to travel far and wide and see how other cultures live and think.Since this isn't practical for many, the next best thing is to read 'National Geographic' magazine! In addition, the fairly recent cover article on 'Evolution' was well written, convincing, and accurate! And to the myopic reviewer below who thinks that the world revolves around her, and who mentioned is not into Soccer, I say this to her:most of the world loves Soccer (technically called Football), and all the NFL, MLB, and NBA fans COMBINED don't even come close to the combined numbers of Soccer fans worldwide!I am a subscriber for life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, getting a little 'out there'
I've been a subscriber for over fifteen years, and will probably continue to subscribe until the day I die. But at times I find National Geographic frustrating. I have no interest in Soccer, nor do I want a huge fold-out map discussing the sport. Aren't there more phenomenal things going on in the world today? Also, Geographic does have its pet topics.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent magazine for lay people
National Geographic Magazine is written primarily for theperson with little or no background in Geography. It is not an intense scholarly magazine and , as a Geograohy professor pointed out, tends to be chatty. But, it does give great information on geopgraphy as well as other fields in the Social Sciences even Natural History. There are many articles about people and places around the world and their customs. There are articles on the latest explorations and discoveries. Such as the rediscovery of the Gnostic Gospel of Judas and the oldest tatooed mummy.Zip USA takes a single US Zip Code and describes the customs and practices of the people living within that zip code. There are many interesting articles about people and places in the United States.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discover magazine
We've been getting Discover for about a year from someone who gave my children a subscription (but we can't recall from whom). That sub was nearly ended, so when my 13-year-old son said it's his favorite magazine, I bought him a new subscription for his 14th birthday.

2-0 out of 5 stars Gone Way Downhill
Recently renewed my subscription after a three year hiatus and I couldn't believe my eyes. The magazine is a skeleton of its former self, with slim stories and little science.Bob Guccione Jr's mag is not even that fun to read.On the happier side, the magazine appears to shun its earlier environmental preoccupations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book To Discover The World
The magazine provides its readers with immediate access to startling developments in science, technology and medicine with a renewed emphasis on how those breakthroughs affect their world. The world is evolving faster than ever. New technologies are influencing every aspect of our lives. An award-winning, general interest magazine devoted to the world of science and technology. For three out of my four years in high school, I kept up with Discover. It allowed me to be geeky without overstressing my brain on very technical, field-specific jargon that I'd find in journals like Scientific American. I learned a lot from that magazine. I learned such and such, and my best guess is from Discover. I usually don't retain fine details, but the pull quotes and headlines from that magazine stick with me.Discover is my science magazine of choice. Look for subscription deals and you'll be a happy geek like me, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest Popular Magazine on Natural History
"Natural History" is the official popular journal published by the American Museum of Natural History, the oldest - and largest - museum of natural history in the Western Hemisphere and without question, one of the world's greatest museums. In its pages it has featured brilliant essays by the likes of Roy Chapman Andrews, Margaret Mead, and Stephen Jay Gould, to name but a few of the many eminent scientists - both museum staff and outsiders - who have contributed superb articles on natural history to this magazine. It has retained an emphasis on scientific discovery, publishing articles pertaining to ecology and other aspects of evolutionary biology (including paleobiology), geology, astrophysics, archaeology and anthropology. Recent issues have included brief articles on biomechanics of various living organisms, those pertaining to recent and current exhibitions such as the Petra exhibition on display at the museum from the Fall of 2003 to early Summer 2004, and current ecological and anthropological research. Current museum scientists, most notably Neil deGrasse Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium, often report in these pages on their ongoing research as well as on issues of a more general nature that might interest a scientifically-literate public. And to its credit, it has not shied away from controversy, publishing for example, an issue on so-called "Intelligent Design", which is seen by its adherents as a competing scientific alternative to evolution via Natural Selection, but lacks any scientific credibility from professional scientists, science educators and like-minded members of the general public.

5-0 out of 5 stars E Magazine
I've been a subscriber of E Magazine (which stands for The Environmental Magazine) for over a year now and I love it. It is, by far, the best environmentally oriented magazine I've come across. All of the ads are for environmentally-friendly companies and products, I now purchase products at at least 50% of the places advertised in this magazine. E Magazine covers topics all over the world, including global warming, horse meat (popular in Europe), whaling, deforestation, etc. If you are concerned or interested in environmental issues, I would highly recommend a subscription to this magazine. The issues are bi-monthly but are absolutely action-packed and fact-filled. Subscribe today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Environmental Magazine
I recently subscribed to E! and the two magazines I have read have had some great articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Independent environmental reports
E is a publication I recognize for its solid reporting on key issues. But most importantly, it is the independence of the solid, in-depth special reports that is most valuable to me and my fellow environmentalists.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars really is the best
I love turing people on to this magazine, they always love it, like I do!5-0 out of 5 stars Showcasing Some of the Best in Nature Photography
Nature's Best is a quarterly magazine (4 issues per year) dedicated to showcasing the best in nature photography today. It's format is slightly larger than standard at9x11 inches. Each issue is around 100 pages in length with almost no advertising. In addition to subscriptions, the magazine is funded by a handful of corporate sponsors, who account for the only advertising in the magazine, and that only amounts to a few pages. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The photos alone are worth the subscription!
The articles are always well-written and very informative, but I love this magazine most of all because of the fabulous photographs that appear cover-to-cover.I frequently cut out the pics after finishing the issue and cover my office's cubicle walls with them -- the wonderful colors of the scenery and the fascinating close-ups of birds and other wildlife just leave me breathless!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Audubon is Great
This magazine is not only informative but also entertaining. I am so happy I decided to subscribe. The price is inexpensive and for all you nature lovers, you must have this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sandhill Cranes stay mainly on the Plains
You can buy a subscription to the bimonthly "Audubon" magazine, but the best way to get it is as a benefit derived from joining the National Audubon Society (currently $35/year).Conservation is a central theme of this magazine, but it also has lots of gorgeous photographs of sandhill cranes, snowflakes, caribou, and everything else that you might expect from a nature magazine, although the articles tend toward pessimism ('grim realism' some might say.)

I really enjoy this magazine very much! The photographs are simply amazing, the articles are interesting & very well put together. It's nice to be able to see parts of Colorado in my own livingroom, & be able to decide where I'd like to venture to, rather than make a blind trip somewhere & be disappointed. The publisher also gives you the option of a free Hunting or Fishing guide to accompany your subscription. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Environmental Buffs!
This is currently my favorite magazine in print. It provides essential information about what the world is experiencing ecologically, environmentally, biologically, etc.I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about international news, policy, sustainability, science breakthroughs in the environmental realm and much more. The price is high, but it is based out of the UK so it has to come quite a distance! 4-0 out of 5 stars Good magazine about wild birds......
I don't know what distinguishes WILDBIRD from other periodicals about the subject, perhaps it is a `bird-of-the-month' approach, but I do find the articles and photographs, columns and "departments" interesting and informative. For example, the May/June issue of WB is promoted as the `15th Annual Hummingbird Issue' and includes a somewhat lengthy essay, "Beginner's Guide to Hummingbird ID by Sherri Williamson, co-founder of the SE Arizona Bird Observatory. Another article is entitled, "Hummingbird Helpers: How you can contribute to the study and aid of Hummingbirds".The latter is by Wildbird Advisory Board member Peter Strangel who coordinates bird conservation efforts for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in Atlanta, and who writesa recurring column for WB. A Hummingbird photo-essay by Ralph Paonessa is also included, as well as articles on backyard birds and birds in South America about - you guessed it - Hummingbirds.

I liked the magazine because it stayed with the articles on the cover and more on different birds, from the habits, to locating birds, what they eat, nesting patterns, ect.My favorite part of the magazine was the Bird Jokes, Contests.Wonderfulmagazine with pictures for kids and adults, a treasure find for any bird lover. ... I have read Bird Times many times. The articles are much less complicated than the Bird Talk magazine articles, which are fairly simplistic as well.I recommend that you look at the cover and see if there are any articles that you want to read. This magazine usually takes me 15-20 minutes to read, and that is if there is an interesting article.Fewer ads than Bird Talk.

5-0 out of 5 stars A keeper........
When I cancel everything else, this will be the bird magazine I keep.BIRD WATCHERS DIGEST is the publication to read if you want the low-down on your favorite bird. For example, I am partial to house wrens, and what do I discover in the July/August BWD, but that my little buddy may be wrecking havoc on his much larger neighbors.Well too bad, the Wren eats his share of insects everyday, keeping my organic garden relatively pest free, so I can't complain.
4-0 out of 5 stars From the novice to the advanced lister; should appeal to all
This is one of the few magazines I read from cover-to-cover.Bird Watcher's Digest has something for everyone. They offer advice on how to improve feeder systems for individuals who enjoy backyard birdwatching. They provide informative identification tips for those trickier species for people who have just begun their journey into the feathered realm.Additionally, they have great authors & astounding birders, like Kenn Kauffman (who's both), who regularly write short articles for them. These should appeal to everyone at whatever experience level. The size of the magazine makes it easy to tote into the field so you can pull it out & read while waiting for that elusive rarity to show up for you to get a quick glimpse of before it dashes off to parts unknown again.I highly recommend this magazine.Besides, you can't be in the field all of the time & this makes the perfect thing to read on those cold, wet, rainy days when even the birds are smart enough to stay in-doors. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Photographs
The very day I recieved this magazine, my hubby was wondering what kind of bird he and his friend had seen earlier that day.Our Birds of the Dakotas book didn't have it listed.I said maybe its a Wyoming bird visiting.I thumbed through the pages and sure enough, right there in a big 3x4 inch picture with identification on the side was the bird he'd seen(the long billed curlew by Tom Ulrich.) I would have to label this magazine a tree hugger resource, with factual reports and call to arms of environmentalists. But if you are looking for great photos of wildlife, this magazines got it. ...
