1-0 out of 5 stars Where is it?
I ordered this magazine at the end of june.We are at the beginning of August and I still haven't seen it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Standard for Aviation Journalism
What can I say? This magazine is the gold standard for popular aviation journalism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gold standard for General Aviation
Flying magazine sets a gold standard for general aviation magazines. It is not perfect -- the maybe cozy relationship with advertisers, it's hard to do one thing perfectly when you cover such a large subject, airline pilots detect a bias against big iron, sometimes it is a little too glossy -- but it covers the whole world of piston and personal airplane flying.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutly great
this magazine really gives you good info on piloting today.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Magazine for Real and Desktop Pilots
Flying a plane is one of my frustrations, and Flight Simulator is as close as I can get to real flying. However, this magazine puts me in touch with what goes on out there, and it makes me feel like one of the lucky few who can actually own/fly a plane. I've been reading Plane and Pilot since the mid 90s and I still anticipate the arrival of each new issue. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First Rate

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this magazine.
I agree with the previous review.High quality articles and photos of restored or found vintage aircraft. This magazine covers a wide range of aviation subjects.I love them all!Great read every month.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
I have been a subscriber for over a year now, and this relatively new periodical is one of the best aviation publications I have ever read. There are some very big aviaiton writers behind this magazine, and it shows. Each issue covers many facets of the world of flight, with a definite bend towrds military avaition. There are often wonderfull and riveting first-hand accounts from WWI, WWII, Veitnam, Korea, the Gulf War, and the war in the Balkans. Each issue features a "gallery" which is simply a photo essay profile of a given aircraft, usually current front line military hardware, that is always stunning. Some of the articles that I have really enjoyed include a comprehensive history of the military leather flying jacket, a first hand account by a Black Widow pilot in WWII who had to shoot down a B-29 after the crew bailed out and the autopliot flew on, and a great first-hand account by an A-10 pilot about a mission in Kosovo. If you love flying, civil or military, warbirds or jet fighters, or even "aerial oddities" you will love this magazine! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Benchmark to all magazines
As I become cynical and impatient in my old age (wait! I'm only 29!) I find less and less in all of the media outlets to be intelligent or interesting.Air & Space is a shining exception to that rule. They cover the full range as I know it, from recreational to military, commercial, and space. They always have a refreshing mix of biography, technical articles, reviews of books and such, and some great photographs that make me wish the printing material was of a higher quality. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Air Classics Magazine Good and Bad
I agree with the earlier review that there are many better vintage aviation magazines out there. The two mentioned (FlyPast and Aeroplane Monthly) have less usefulness in the U.S. though, because of their primary U.K. and European focus.Air Classics is a good snapshot review of vintage/warbird flying in this country, and its extensive treatment of Post World War II subjects is refreshing with all the emphasis on WWII in other warbird venues.Michael O'Leary does seem talented, but the Magazine suffers from his name being too frequently seen in the articles. Also in the latest issue (Nov. 2006, I think?), O'Leary really goes over the top in criticizing "internet crowd" armchair critics of the "Thunder Over Michigan" air show in August 2006.O'Leary using some non-professional vulgar language in the article that speaks very poorly for the magazine.I hope this is an abberation.
3-0 out of 5 stars Air Classics
Air Classics appeals to those who like vintage WWII aircraft, although other classic aircraft are also covered. The talented Michael O'Leary seems to write and photograph the keystone articles each month, with other writes and photographers contributing. Unfortunately, for many years, this magazine's format has leaned towards larger, less tightly packed print, and more advertisements than meat. I personally had read and collected every single issue since Vol. 1, #1, printed in 1964, and gave the entire collection away to a local aviation museum a few years ago after letting my subscription expire, and haven't read Air Classics since. There are far superior, similarly themed aviation magazines out there to spend your money on, FlyPast and Aeroplane monthly being the two I'd recommend. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Mags I've Read
One of the few magazines I will read cover to cover. Even those articles about civilian aircraft (I am a military aircraft enthusiast/author) I read with great interest. Many articles are about events/machines/people that I've never heard of but are fascinating to learn about. My only criticism is that it is not a monthly publication. It would be a great day indeed if the publishers decided to make it so. Either way, it is worth the money for a subscription.

3-0 out of 5 stars Strong balance of civil & military aviation, but infrequent
I ordered this magainze, and although it covers one of my favorite subjects I did find that I was not as pleased as I had hoped. This magazine does not come monthly, and so you find yourself wondering if your issue is lost or if your subscription is messed up.Also, it has an awful lot of material that is used to cover civil aviation, but since I am not as interested in civil as I am military aviation, I was not able to appreciate as much of the magazine as I had hoped. overall, it is fairly balanced, and given that the civil world is much less writen about, that is to the magazine's credit, but I wish I had ordered something else instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars great stuff!
I take several different magazines, of different types. This is the one that I invariably read cover to cover, every single issue. OK, so you have to be _interested_ in the specialized subject matter, first. But if you do have any interest at all in Aviation History, this magazine presents a seldom-failing insight into lost, little-known, and obscure aspects of the entire century of aviation. The writing is literate and interesting, and they come up with some marvellous, mostly unpublished, pictures. I would recommend at least a trial subscription - my bet is that you'll like it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If you fly IFR, you should be reading this
This monthly magazine has many real world tips and articles on flying IFR safely written by people who fly and know the systems, procedures and methods. I have been a sbiscriber for years and as long as I'm flying, I'll keep reading IFR.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real world with a dry wit
This magazine is ford those who have (or are close to getting ) their instrument rating. It features very practical discussions about how to operate in the system. It is easy to find books that explain the rules or AIM but this goes behind the scenes to explain how controllers look at situations and how they can (and sometimes can not) help. The editor is Paul Berge an ex controller and CFII who has a dry wit and is fairly quick to be critical or complimentary to ATC and the FAA as appropriate. He does a great job of explaining how "the other side" thinks and how to get the most out of the system. ...
