another Heartland surprise
A little over two years ago I moved from an exotic, beautiful, international location to take a superb job in what I took to be the boring city of Indianapolis. Friends and strangers routinely asked 'What were you *smoking*?' or some variant of that question.

This magazine is elegant.I particularly enjoyed a recent issue which covered downtown living.I thought the information was very well presented and the property reviews were informative.In addition, this issue contained lots of great restaurant reviews. Useless facts and $1700 lamps...Gross.
I ordered it because they sent me a subscription card for $12...luckily that is all I paid.You might appreciate this magazine if you are in your forties, have 5 children, are a doctor or lawyer, and thrive on statistics.Every issue focuses on comparing us to other cities, primarily New York, and is a general bore.There is nothing one could actually utilize, or would want to, in the entertainment/restaurant section.I've never been so eager for a subscription to end.I can't believe Amazon suggests buying this along with Time Out Chicago, who I've turned to for real information, colorful interviews, and articles that honestly do feel like Chicago does.Yuck...all the focus on rich people makes me want to puke.Why don't they count up some statistics on how many Chicagoans actually fit your sickeningly rich profile?5 percent?Their March issue explaining that a D-I-N-K couple making a combined $120,000 a year struggles just as much as a single mother making $15,000 based on their choices really tops it off:this magazine is out of touch.
Like New York Magazine, not the New Yorker
Like so many magazines that have decided to pursue the relatively affluent core of their subscription, Chicago magazine is great if you want to read a magazine to figure out what to buy.It's got lots of articles that are relevant to you if you're upwardly mobile, either live in the suburbs or have a car to get there, and are interested in the latest trends in entertainment and shopping.
Promotes The National Image of Tribune Liberal Bias
The magazine hit a new low recently but is in lockstep with the media bias demomstrated so wonderfully by the Chicago Tribune.Read more

Great Magazine
The magazine is very high on quality and serves up interesting details about the city and the surrounding communities.It leans center-left but that's pretty good in this city.

Decent Magazine
This is a decent magazine covering mainly entertainment, arts, festivals and restaurants in Cincinnati.It also touches onissues relating to the social, political and cultural climate of the city.This magazine leans a little to the trendy side and I do not think it is representative of the entire greater Cincinnati area which is much more conservative.It would be a good resource for those contemplating a move to the city to get a "feel" for its culture.It's also nice for those who have lived here for awhile and want to keep up on the entertainment scene. ... Minnesota Life
"Minnesota Monthly" is a very good magazine that focuses, obviously, on life in Minnesota. It has consistently well written and interesting articles on all different facets of Minnesota living, and every issue is worth reading. I am fond of the focus on recreational Minnesota; as an example in the August, 2005 issue there is an issue on Bed and Breakfasts in Minnesota (it has been an annual feature for fourteen years now). The article doesn't just stick close to the Twin Cities, either; it roams the entire state looking for excellent B&Bs. That is the type of feature that makes the magazine worthwhile: it gives readers great ideas of things to do and places to go that can quickly generate enthusiasm for new adventure.

HOUR Detroit is a Great Magazine!
I really enjoy HOUR Detroit. I think it is exactly what a local/regional magazine should be. No matter how well I think I know the Detroit area, HOUR always has features and articles that introduce me to something new. It has wonderful reviews and a wide variety of features. I find that HOUR should appeal to both native Detroiters and those new to the area!
