1-0 out of 5 stars NewYorker
This was a gift for my daughter. Instead of receiving the New Yorker, she is receiving People. You need to fix this!

5-0 out of 5 stars great magazine for New Yorkers
I used to subscribe to Time Out New York and wanted a little more than bars/clubs listings or interviews with some weird artists. I found it in New York magazine. I liked its special sections on Best Lawyers and Doctors in NYC. I liked its monthly listing of fun activities in NYC . I liked its summer vacation sections. I liked its one-day getaway ideas. Too many things to list...it's a magazine for mature adults who want useful information as well as ideas on fun places to go to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely magazine
    This magazine is lovely.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good... A little too comercial
I've always thought of Sunset magazine as the type of magazine you'd find in the back of an airplane seat. The kind of magazine with flashy pictures, expensive wines and places you can never afford to go to. This is a good magazine, but I find level of advertising annoying. Also, the reviews of hotels don't strike me as that reliable. Last month, based on a review in this magazine about an inn, we stayed the night at this location and found the service was awful, the 'rooms with fireplaces' not functional and the room smelled bad. These facts were conveniently left out of the review which touted the friendly staff and the great rooms. So I guess, ultimately, I'd take reviews and articles in the magazine with a grain of salt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Ideas
I enjoy looking at and reading the articles in "Sunset".We plan to retire in Montana and I save articles that have information on houses, yards, etc. Someday, we hope to use some of this information. Great, healthy recipes also included in the magazine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cottage, Not Country -- Style Galore
Finally a magazine that knows cottage. Cottage isn't country, although it can have some of those elements. It isn't necessarily small, but it can be. It doesn't necessarily mean old, though it can be. Country can be modern and hip or antique and traditional. Above all, it's casual and comfortable. It's a place you want to come home to. It's a feel, an ambiance, a flair for putting things together that don't come in room-to-go packages from furniture store decorators. I especially like the various styles presented in each issue -- ultra modern, traditional, log cabin, seaside, California contemporary, etc. and the monthly comparison of styles in one furniture grouping. It allows you to grab ideas from the entire spectrum of cottage style and to mix and match for yourself. I also like how easy the how-to advice is to follow. From paint advice to luscious gardens to interesting food, this magazine has it all. The accompanying website is great. Products and paints are easy to find. I've banished all the other decorating magazines from my subscription list.

5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't everyone want a cottage?
This is my favorite home/decorating/architecture magazine of all time.Perhaps it is a fortuitous coincidence, but "Cottage Living" always features homes in areas of the country that are very interesting to me - like the Adirondacks, Boulder CO, Arlington VA, Asheville NC and New Orleans. The editors have a good understanding of cottage admirers and their interests. Therefore, they include floor plans, before & after pictures, and brief back-stories that give us a glimpse into the life of the cottages and of their inhabitants.

5-0 out of 5 stars The guide to NYC.
I first learned about Time Out while living in London. The London edition of this magazine became my constant companion, allowing me to find great events. Now living just outside of NYC, TONY was my first magazine subscription at my new apartment.Offers many free events, as well as its usual picky reviews.Great for a one-resource list of the week's events. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Too heavy to hold!
This used to be a great (and medium-sized) magazine with at least one great article in every issue. Last year the format was changed & the darned thing is so big I can't read it in bed. At last look they still had at least one interesting article, but it is surrounded by page after page of mind-numbing glossy ads, with more pages of pictures of the SF social set.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not crazy about the new format....
A few months ago this magazine was transformed into one of those huge glossy coffee table type shi-shi magazines.75% of the magazine consists of advertisements for hi-priced goods now. It's not worth subscribing to

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, informative articles for Bay Area residents
I received San Francisco magazine as a gift a few years ago and at first assumed that it would simply be a way to keep up with restaurant reviews and the like for the city (I live about 35 miles east in the suburbs). After reading a few issues, though, it became clear that a number of the articles are very well written and provide great information and entertainment for residents of San Francisco and beyond.I am thinking of recent articles about Willie Brown (by Joan Walsh), Jim Jones Jr. (by Pamela Feinsilber), and the June 2003 "Green Issue."Some of the articles/features are less relevant to me, but there is always something interesting to read each time a new issue appears in my mailbox.I wish that there was more coverage of restaurants and cultural events in Contra Costa County (where I live), but this is San Francisco magazine after all! ... If only LA had a magazine as polished and informative as The New Yorker. It's not like there isn't an audience for it -- more New Yorker subscribers live in California than in New York. It's true!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Way to Know Los Angeles
Los Angeles Magazine has a variety of information for everyone. Some of the stores, fashions, etc... might run on the high end price-wise (especially the paid advertisements). But the magazine always offers a great overview of what is going on in Los Angeles. Covering News, Politics, Celebrities, Fashion, Food and Fun things to do. The best issue is the Annual Restaurant issue - this is not to be missed. Restaurants in every price range are listed. Besides the "Dining Out" monthly section, there is "The Top Ten" - plays, music, museums and more to do that month. This magazine is a great way to get to know Los Angeles. ... Read more

EXCELLENT IN EVERYTHING...HIGH CLASS ADVERTISING.GREAT JOURNALISM!!

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it, and I'm not Texan
On february 2005 I went to Houston for a week, and I had heard of Texas Monthly, so I picked it up at the airport when I got there. It was a pleasant company during my laundry at the hotel I have to say! Beautifully designed, with interesting and thought-provoking articles. I am glad I got it, so glad I even got me a subscription. Highly recommendable.
4-0 out of 5 stars Getting Better
I agree with some of what all the other reviewers have stated.I, too, am a Texas native who has subscribed for nearly 15 years (and read my father's for 10 years before that) and have seen the mag's quality ebb and flo.As copyKat states, the magazine doesn't seem to know who its target audience is (i.e. upscale, politically savvy, middle-or-the-road, city dweller/suburban, etc.)The political and investigatory writing is still top-notch.This state has a lot of problems and the magazine does not try to simply gloss them over. However, some (ok, many) of the 'fluff' pieces leave me wondering why they were included in the first place. Like ducksquat, I also dislike having to stop an article in mid-paragraph to hunt down the continuation on page 97. Read more

...and although it was a creative house warming gift, I am not impressed. If you are intrested in knowing what is going on with the lawyers or the fanciest chef's in the Boston area and where to locate these people, this magazine might satisfy you. I got a subscription for my parents when they moved to the Boston area about a year ago and, although they might give it a nicer review since they did RENEW their subscription, being an out-of-towner I am not at all impressed. The magazine seems to be promoting the idea that everyone in Boston is loaded and lives the glamorous life and while I understand that the cost of living int he area is quite high, I do not believe nor have I experienced the image promoted in the magazine to be accurate of the area. In visiting my parents I have tried many times to pick up the magazine and read it to no avail...

I have loved Alaska since the first time I visited the state in 1992. I have been back many times since, and attempt to visit at least once a year. "Alaska" magazine is an excellent way to keep informed about happenings in the state, especially when you can't be there personally. The articles are well written and interesting, and focus, as you would expect, is on the breathtaking outdoors, and outdoor activities. 5-0 out of 5 stars another Heartland surprise
A little over two years ago I moved from an exotic, beautiful, international location to take a superb job in what I took to be the boring city of Indianapolis. Friends and strangers routinely asked 'What were you *smoking*?' or some variant of that question.
5-0 out of 5 stars Indianapolis Monthly -- Great Magazine!
This magazine is elegant.I particularly enjoyed a recent issue which covered downtown living.I thought the information was very well presented and the property reviews were informative. In addition, this issue contained lots of great restaurant reviews. It's a good concept: a magazine focusing exclusivelyon a city.Quite a few of the ads were pretty good as well!. I recommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT! IF YOU'RE LOOKIN' FOR THE PSEUDO-WEST
I recall the first issue that I ever saw of COWBOYS & INDIANS magazine.Tom Selleck graced the cover, touting a story about Selleck and his newest western, CROSSFIRE TRAIL.The story was marvelous.Shortly after buying this copy from a newsstand I subscribed.

A great magazine with all the info and not a lot of the garbage!5-0 out of 5 stars The Great Escape
Cowboys & Indians Magazine is one of the most enjoyable reads in magazine publishing. Each issue I look forward to escaping to the various destinations, events, and reading the articles regarding art and works of artisans. The beautiful photography and layout of the magazine lets you dream about the places you would like to be and the people / personalities you would like to meet.I would recommend this magazine to anyone who enjoys any aspect of Western Lifestyle.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Killing Animals in Colorado"
I bought a subscription to this magazine out of excitement at our upcoming relocation to the Denver area.I was hoping I would get a magazine that celebrated all of CO's natural gifts thru essays and photography etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated & Informative
I really enjoy this magazine very much! The photographs are simply amazing, the articles are interesting & very well put together. It's nice to be able to see parts of Colorado in my own livingroom, & be able to decide where I'd like to venture to, rather than make a blind trip somewhere & be disappointed. The publisher also gives you the option of a free Hunting or Fishing guide to accompany your subscription. I can tell alot of time goes into the structure of this magazine. Kudos to the Publisher of this magazine! ... Read more
