A lovely magazine
This magazine is lovely.
Good... A little too comercial
I've always thought of Sunset magazine as the type of magazine you'd find in the back of an airplane seat.The kind of magazine with flashy pictures, expensive wines and places you can never afford to go to. This is a good magazine, but I find level of advertising annoying. Also, the reviews of hotels don't strike me as that reliable. Last month, based on a review in this magazine about an inn, we stayed the night at this location and found the service was awful, the 'rooms with fireplaces' not functional and the room smelled bad. These facts were conveniently left out of the review which touted the friendly staff and the great rooms. So I guess, ultimately, I'd take reviews and articles in the magazine with a grain of salt.

I enjoy looking at and reading the articles in "Sunset".We plan to retire in Montana and I save articles that have information on houses, yards, etc. Someday, we hope to use some of this information. Great, healthy recipes also included in the magazine. ... Read more

Too heavy to hold!
This used to be a great (and medium-sized) magazine with at least one great article in every issue. Last year the format was changed & the darned thing is so big I can't read it in bed. At last look they still had at least one interesting article, but it is surrounded by page after page of mind-numbing glossy ads, with more pages of pictures of the SF social set.
Not crazy about the new format....
A few months ago this magazine was transformed into one of those huge glossy coffee table type shi-shi magazines.75% of the magazine consists of advertisements for hi-priced goods now.It's not worth subscribing to

Excellent, informative articles for Bay Area residents
I received San Francisco magazine as a gift a few years ago and at first assumed that it would simply be a way to keep up with restaurant reviews and the like for the city (I live about 35 miles east in the suburbs).After reading a few issues, though, it became clear that a number of the articles are very well written and provide great information and entertainment for residents of San Francisco and beyond.I am thinking of recent articles about Willie Brown (by Joan Walsh), Jim Jones Jr. (by Pamela Feinsilber), and the June 2003 "Green Issue."Some of the articles/features are less relevant to me, but there is always something interesting to read each time a new issue appears in my mailbox.I wish that there was more coverage of restaurants and cultural events in Contra Costa County (where I live), but this is San Francisco magazine after all! ... So much potential
If only LA had a magazine as polished and informative as The New Yorker.It's not like there isn't an audience for it -- more New Yorker subscribers live in California than in New York.It's true!
A Fantastic Way to Know Los Angeles
Los Angeles Magazine has a variety of information for everyone. Some of the stores, fashions, etc... might run on the high end price-wise (especially the paid advertisements). But the magazine always offers a great overview of what is going on in Los Angeles. Covering News, Politics, Celebrities, Fashion, Food and Fun things to do. The best issue is the Annual Restaurant issue - this is not to be missed. Restaurants in every price range are listed. Besides the "Dining Out" monthly section, there is "The Top Ten" - plays, music, museums and more to do that month. This magazine is a great way to get to know Los Angeles. ... Read more

How would I know?
How would I know how the magazine is since it has been paid for and I have not received a copy yet?I think that it is a little presumptious of anyone to ask until the appropriate time!After I have had the opportunity to read and review the magazine, feel free to ask my opinion at that time.

Each month I read this magazine cover to cover.Ten years ago, I fell in love with Alaska on my "once in a lifetime" trip.Now I am on my 12th visit to the state and hope to find a way to continue visiting.This magazine helps me make it to the next trip and gives me more and more ideas about what to do when I am in the state.
Excellent Coverage Of Our Biggest And Most Beautiful State
I have loved Alaska since the first time I visited the state in 1992. I have been back many times since, and attempt to visit at least once a year. "Alaska" magazine is an excellent way to keep informed about happenings in the state, especially when you can't be there personally. The articles are well written and interesting, and focus, as you would expect, is on the breathtaking outdoors, and outdoor activities. Local history, politics, and environmental issues are also well represented, as are amusing human interest stories.Read more

GREAT! IF YOU'RE LOOKIN' FOR THE PSEUDO-WEST
I recall the first issue that I ever saw of COWBOYS & INDIANS magazine.Tom Selleck graced the cover, touting a story about Selleck and his newest western, CROSSFIRE TRAIL.The story was marvelous.Shortly after buying this copy from a newsstand I subscribed.

A great magazine with all the info and not a lot of the garbage! The Great Escape
Cowboys & Indians Magazine is one of the most enjoyable reads in magazine publishing.Each issue I look forward to escaping to the various destinations, events, and reading the articles regarding art and works of artisans.The beautiful photography and layout of the magazine lets you dream about the places you would like to be and the people / personalities you would like to meet.I would recommend this magazine to anyone who enjoys any aspect of Western Lifestyle.Read more

If you fly fish the Northwest, you'll love this magazine
Beautiful photography and pretty good writing are the hallmarks of this magazine.It focuses on locations rather than on tying, equipment, or other issues.Those of us who live in Washington and Oregon are lucky to have a magazine of this quality dedicated to our area.I get more out of "Northwest Fly Fishing" than any of the half dozen other fly fishing publications I susbcribe to. ... conservative cowboys
It was so funny when I read the review about the fellow not reading American Cowboy because of the conservative politics. He would be hard pressed to find a true cowboy who is liberal. I live on a ranch (have for 31 years) and have known MANY real cowboys and not one has had a liberal viewpoint. Some have higher educations too, so one can't blame it on ignorance.Keep up the good work at American Cowboy and keep reporting on the true cowboys and cowgirls.

A handsome, well-done magazine that I won't read again
This is a good-looking magazine that always arrives on time and that never skimps on content. But I'm letting my subscription--which I bought as a way to encounter a distinct culture other than my own--lapse because there's just too much politics here. That is, you CAN say negative, but honest, things about John Wayne and other conservative icons, but not if your ideology blinkers you.
A must read for almost everyone.
This well-written magazine gives readers a realistic view of cowboys and cowgirls today, whether they are ranch owners, ranch hands, or rodeo athletes.The photography is first class.If you have any interest in cowboys and cowgirls, a western lifestyle, or just knowing how people live and react who enjoy this way of living, you will enjoy this magazine. ... Luxurious Living in the Rainy City
Actually, living in Seattle is not always a drizzly experience. Don't tell anyone, but the summers in Seattle are absolutely amazing. Winter isn't too bad either because the climate is fairly mild. I lived there for many years and one of the things I noticed is the "homes." There are unique and beautiful homes all over Seattle that definitely appeal to the aesthetically aware. I have never lived in any area where there were so many unique and artistic designs. Great local magazine
